What happened? – I recently unpacked mine from storage having only used once before. The lid is difficult to lock and unlock. Whilst processing fish the blade stopped turning and is now jammed in the bottom of the Bowl. There is no comparison to the previous Breville Kitchen Wizz model I had for many satisfying years. This is flimsy and the quality is suspect. How could there be such a disparity. Soooo disappointed. Show details
cheap and nasty – Slicing pretty haphazard as the disk wobbles and ends up with curled up bits and thick chunks on top. Retaining lug snapped off bowl after only 4 uses, so have to manually hold the bowl down. Chopping and mixing so-so. Generally tacky quality. Learnt my lesson so will probably go for cuisinart replacement. Show details
Really disappointed – Absolutely gutted. Don't use the machine very often but thought it would be a good investment. Unfortunately the lid is stuck to the bowl & won't come apart. Don't know what has caused it as we've looked after it really well but it seems consistent with the other reviews on here so there must be a design issue of some sort. Show details

happy! – I was shocked at all the negative reviews as I've been happy with mine. Admittedly I don't use it often, but it makes a mean cole slaw in a flash! I haven't had any problems with the lid or any of the other issues people here have reported. Too bad people only review products they are unhappy with so you don't get balanced reviews Show details · 1
Has made life much easier – I'd not owned a food processor before but mum had one when I was growing up. The Wizz cuts and slices all my veggies saving heaps of time when doing dinner for the kids. The kids also love to help drop food in and watch it get pulverised. Once you work out the right volumes to use it works a treat. Will be recommending this to my friends.
Pretty Good – This is my first food processor so I have nothing to compare it to. I really like it, I use it all the time to do onions cause i hate chopping them. I find that if you only put a small amount in, the food flies to the sides and it doesn't chop very fine. I may need to use a smaller processor for smaller amounts. It does a good job when you put… Read more · 7
quite a lot in it.
I tried using one of the grater inserts to slice cabbage for coleslaw and that did not work well at all, Most of it just stayed at the top and it didn't cut it right so I just ended up doing it with a knife.
I use it to mince meat and it works well. And it's so much easier to do biscuit crumbs now! Certainly beats bashing them with a rolling pin.
I now use this to do mix for my baking too. It grounds up almonds and cashews pretty well and I use it to make almond meal baked goods. It's quick and does a good job. Powerful, Chops veggies well, good small size, looks good, won't turn on unless lid is clicked in and stops immediately if lid clicks out - very safe Slicer inserts don't work that well, doesn't chop very fine

@Worst machine ever – I have owned a Breville Kitchen Wizz for more years than I care to remember. It broke down and as it was such a wonderful machine I purchased another new one. Worst decision I have ever made. I have just made pastry in it and had to end up taking it out and doing it by hand as it wouldn't mix together. It is terrible for grating things as… Read more
half the carrot etc is left spinning around the top. It is so hard to put the lid on and just now I couldn't get the lid off. Had to call on husband and even he had trouble. If I could afford it, I would throw it in the rubbish bin!!!!!!!
Mediocre at best – I admit to being spoilt by our first ever processor in the seventies, the ground braking French Magimix. Several devices of varying quality have been acquired over the years, (the Aldi and Philips versions were quickly put on Ebay), the Breville Wizz being my latest attempt. The problem with this device is that it cuts too many corners. Blades… Read more
which have to be inserted into a single plate may not seem like a task but in the middle of a chocolate cake, or something requiring cheese grating and onion slicing, it's just plain messy. And they don't work all that well leaving great chunks of onion, or carrot or cheese un-processed on top of the plate. Removing and re-engaging the bowl with "kitchen hands" is far from easy and has now resulted in the bowl breaking one of its lugs. I won't bother trying to get a replacement as it certainly won't be under warranty in spite of the little use; the money will be better spent getting something good. Something which doesn't produce hummus with the consistency of pointing cement.
5 months later and the blade has started losing its black plastic casing – This time I was making breadcrumbs and I noticed great chunks of black plastic - quickly turned off and the blade has deteriorated. I have phoned the customer service centre and paid $28 to have a new blade sent out. I don't trust this machine at all. I just wish they could bring back the old cyclonic wiz! Show details

Doesn't whizz well – I use a whizz to make peanut butter but this whizz won't blend the nuts...they stay in small chunks. My previous kenwood and an older breville were great. It's frustrating! Also has already had a broken lid (not good) which breville replaced with no questions asked ... very good :) Show details
Terrible do not buy – Absolute waste of money - which is a shame as I like buying Breville products. I purchased mine in April 2015 and today on the 4th use the lid gets stuck. I don't put any extra force or anything on to the lid and it cracks the bowl in two places :(. Cannot find warranty info due to someone throwing it out, but it's within its two year warranty but nothing can be done. Waste of money. Show details

Grrrrr!!! – I have spent half an hour today, with four other people trying, to take off the lid. What a performance! This is the second time I have used it and I had exactly the same trouble the first time. ARRRRRGH!!!!! Also the instructions are unhelpful - there are not enough pictures -I wasn't sure how to put the blade in and the pictures were not clear enough.

Wouldn't buy it again – I have had this machine for about 5 years. The only useful blade was the metal one. The grater was useless as the food just got stuck above the blade and hardly any food got grated. When making dips, I had to keep opening the lid and scraping the sides of the bowl so all the ingredients could be mixed in. Last week I was chopping biscuits to make… Read more
a cheesecake base. The machine kept running when I turned it off, then is started smoking and caught on fire. At least I can get a new one now and it won't be a Breville.

What an appalling piece of kitchen equipment Breville be ashamed! – Indeed I purchased this machine online from a woman who got it as a wedding present - it is absolutely useless it does not shred or slice - I did contact Breville about it and they sent me a new spindle but the machine just grinds into the plastic spindle, it has left deep gouges after only using it a couple of times and the plate for supporting… Read more
the blades spins unevenly so nothing gets shredded or sliced. . Breville claim that the machine is the 2011 model which I seriously dispute but bottom line they will not help in any way and as I live on Waiheke Island it is simply not worth the hassle of catching the ferry across to town to have someone look at it - and after reading these reviews the only place for this Breville appliance is to the dump! what a piece of junk. I would say be alert to buying any Breville products these days, they are simply not worth the money.
Why did they change the original design? – For years I have owned a Breville Cyclonic Wizz (over 20 years old). Recently I decided to upgrade to the Breville Kitchen Wizz. It has frail plastic parts and horrible attachments. The grater, for example wont take hard cheeses like Parmesan - great chunks of plastic broke off the top piece into the bowl. The handle on the top which you have… Read more
to hold and twist to release the connection with the main bowl is so fat and round that it is difficult to grasp. A heavy slap at the side of the shaft is the only way to release the connection. Besides this, it really doesn't do a great job. I did replace the top part when it broke grating the cheese but I don't use it as it is just not as good as the old one. I wish I could buy a brand new Cyclonic Wizz - I just love the old one.

Useless – I brought this processor because I like to make my own curry paste, hummus, etc. and no matter what recipes I use (even the hummus recipe in the instruction booklet) they never ever come out smooth. I have misplaced my receipt and now Breville & Target will not help me. Totally angry and just wasted $149! Don't buy this machine!
Not like the Old one – We got this Breville Kitchen Wizz to replace our old one of 20- 30 yrs+ which had just started to crack/craze on the bowl. The new one was described as having stainless blades. When we unpacked it the cutting disc was plastic and only metal inserts did the work. We then consulted Product Review and found dreadful experiences with this product… Read more
enough for us to consider it dangerous and nothing like the Wizz we had for so long and still going. We returned the Product to the supplier who reluctantly accepted our reason for return.
Never Buying Breville Again!! – Bought this Kitchen Wizz 3 years ago. One year before warranty expired, the blade shed the plastic, so Target replaced the full machine as it was under warranty. It now took 2 years out of warranty and the same thing happened (I thought the first time was a freak accident), but found out the hard way after baking some cookies. Thankfully no one… Read more
ate the cookies before I realised what had happened. Breville only want to give me a replacement blade out of "good will". I am pursuing the matter through VCAT for a full refund. Breville told me that they had never heard this problem happening before, and I read here that many of you have had this before! So heartened to read this as it strengthens my case. 30 years ago I owned my first Breville Kitchen Wizz and it lasted 20 years, NEVER AGAIN!! I don't know what they've done, but items used to make food should not be considered "consumables" and should be fit for purpose!!! I'd sue if someone ate the pieces. If anyone wants to add their "testimonial" with mine at the poor quality of the product, please contact me on rofielding@bigpond.com.
Blade attachment is very poor quality – I bought a Breville Kitchen Wizz BFP400 in 2013 and it has gradually shed the plastic surrounding the blade attachment. I tried to get a replacement, however it was going to cost 1/5th of the price to get another. I declined. I am very disappointed. Don't bother wasting your time.
Buy the Breville cafe series – I bought this food processor after having one of their cafe series for many years I worked it hard eventually the plastic mount connectors for the blade broke and I discovered replacement parts were no longer available as I could not afford the top of the line model this time I went 2 models down 1400 watt induction motor etc. it comes with a mini… Read more
blender inside the bowl for small amounts. First gripe the motor is very noisy compared to my old machine. second gripe don't believe the measurements in the mini bowl you will have to clean the larger bowl every time you use it . A great aioli recipe in the instruction book but you cannot exceed the measurements in the recipe. Third gripe the dough blade is almost non functioning for any wet pastry or dough. The grater attachments are okay and the various sized feed mouths work well. There is a small measuring cylinder inside the feed mouths with a grey plastic lid mine self destructed within two days the lid broke into pieces . The slicing attachment has a variable gauge which works well but doesn't cut to the sizes on its millimetre scale. Fourth gripe the destructions only say that some parts are not dishwasher safe only one part is clearly labelled as not safe so which parts are.
I paid about $340 dollars for this machine my recommendation pay the extra $100 dollars for the cafe series
Dont buy it!!! Breville Kitchen Wizz bfp 400 – Only because I found these reviews have I pursued this with Breville, thought it was only me. Plastic clip to lock the bowl and start the machine snapped off. Had problems ever since purchase, Good Guys person told me I had to give it a shove to release it. Bought it Aug 13 and have only used maybe 6 times because it wont release easily. Phoned… Read more
Breville today and calmly and politely explained the situation, acknowledged it's out of warranty but I would like a refund as the machine is not fit for purpose. At least the lady said she would refer it to a manager and didn't fob me off. My teenage sons' friends call me awesome and scary for a reason. My calmness and politeness hides a very tenacious nature............let's see what happens.
To Breville's credit they replaced the lid, even though it was out of warranty.
Very poor! – Had this processor back in 2012/13. Plastic around blade broken and the mechanism in the handle collapsed. Breville didnt care and wanted me to buy the bits because they were "consumables". It was only a few months old at the time. One day, i was making pastry (within the guidelines of the instructions) and after processing smelt a horrid… Read more
smell. unplugged it and went upstairs to put some ironing away. Then heard the smoke alarm. The machine was smoldering from underneath, burning the benchtop in the process.
Rung Breville and they were interested and got someone to come pick up the remains of the burnt food processor.
Got a call back a week later stating that after investigations, it wasnt a machine fault, but rather i must have had it sitting on something hot like a stove. I sent clear pictures of the burnt benchtop, proving that it wasnt on the stove or somewhere hot. They did send out a new processor as a gesture of "goodwill" but i didnt want to fight it at the time as i was getting a new benchtop in the future anyway.
After that experience, BREVILLE has put a very bad taste in my mouth! Never want to mess around with breville ever.
PS. I have the pictures as proof, but not on my current device so I will work toward getting the pics uploaded at a later date.

Plastic crap – Like many others my plastic bowl broke very quickly. Now useless and cost as much to buy a new machine as it does to buy a new plastic bowl. Rip off! Don't waste your money.
Piece of crap – Poorly designed and no back up , all breakable parts are considered consumables and not covered by warranty. 2 months old and now useless because a small plastic guide broke on bowl lock, considered consumable shame on you BREVILLE. PS your help desk is appalling
Piece of rubbish – I bought mine a couple of years ago and on its first use it started smelling like burning plastic. After that things went from bad to worse with the slicer wearing down so that it no longer spins and bits of plastic cracking off the blade so that my coleslaw has bits of plastic in it. This machine is a complete pile of rubbish and I feel so… Read more
betrayed by Breville for putting this shoddy product on the market. And yes, I bought this machine years ago and I'm STILL angry about it! DO NOT BUY ONE!
So disappointing, what a waste of money – I mainly bought it for grating and slicing, but how disappointing. Same result as mentioned in previous reviews. Just big chunks and half just spins around on top. Myer doesn't accept returns either. Only used twice... Crap
Not worth the drama – Like many other reviewers have stated, getting the lid on and off the machine is an issue and can end in tears. Don't waste your money, it's not even worth the running around trying to get it repaired under warranty. I purchased this item in 31/03/2014 and was a great machine until the clip on the lid snapped off rendering the whole machine… Read more
completely useless (On Christmas Eve. Ugh). Less than 12 months old and never put through the dishwasher I expected much better from a brand like Breville.
don't recommend using the kneading attachment – I used this food processor to knead bread dough once a week, and occasionally to blend soups. It had to be held in place while kneading dough so it wouldn't jump around on the bench. After about nine months of being used for kneading the shaft came loose, so any liquid in the bowl leaks onto the base. I also tried using it for grating vegetables… Read more
and it leaves large chunks untouched (they get caught between the lid and the grating attachment). It also takes a good bit of force to unlock the lid after processing.
I contacted Breville after the shaft came loose about six weeks after the warranty expired asking if it could be fixed and got an unhelpful email saying I would have to pay a fee to get a service centre to look at it.
I would strongly discourage anyone from buying the Kitchen Wizz. The only attachment that works is the metal bladed attachment (for pureeing, making breadcrumbs etc.), and my stick blender does it better.
only one of the attachments is fit for purpose
Poor design – the lid jams on my almost-new BFP400. I have used it about three times with no problems. suddenly, now it is almost impossible to get the lid off, I am frightened to use force but eventually had to lie it sideways on the floor and tap the feeding spout til it released. this method not ideal for liquid contents!! I can't see where it is sticking -… Read more
any ideas? also the dough blade is useless for cutting butter into flour as per the instructions - had to tip it all out and use the metal blade. and I agree with others that the blade is too high, there is a whole layer of unprocessed ingredients at the bottom. thank goodness for forums like this otherwise I would have been blaming myself for being a klutz. its size poor performance. bad design.
as a PS to the above: I have since had the lid "eased" under warranty and I can now use it. the… Read more
Design floors – Centre Chopping blade broke within a few months of purchase and only a couple of uses. Breville wouldn't replace under warranty but would sell me one...I declined. all gets stuck and messy. Grating carrots and it gets stuck above the plates.
Try to mix small amounts of things, There's a gap under the lower blade where everything sits and w0nt get blended with the outer food. Cant make mayo in it, there's no blending the liquid at the bottom of the bowl. Design fault in the blades.
Bad machine, buy a better quality one in the first place. the look and large bowl ineffectingchopping/mising. makesmoremess than it should
Never worked – wont work , can only put very little in IT and BLADES stop working although motor still going fine? all most like its slipping? , as it was a gift I have no receipt and did not want to ask for it, so complete waist of time, its next home is the DUMP. :( didnt work properly
Really flimsy machine broke down after 15 uses – Previously had a Breville Kitchen Wizz for 26 years and it worked really well through the intensive-use years of having young family at home. Bought replacement Kitchen Wizz BFP400 last year, used it 15 times and it now will not chop up anything stronger than parsley leaves. Breville said that it is "out of warranty" (by 2 months), despite its… Read more
low level of usage, "take it to a service centre".
Really poor performance.
Machine failed too early. Waste of money
Four stars until the wee plastic lock broke! – I now have a useless appliance because the lock broke. For some time it has been difficult to get top off, despite keeping the lid clear of material, and today a plastic bit snapped off which I imagine is the lock, rendering it unusable. Seems a big design fault. Otherwise I have been happy with its performance.
Performs Well – I use this mainly to mix cakes, and make pastry, occasionally to crush biscuits. It always does what I want and I've never had a problem. The bowl is a good size for my favourite cake, it's easy to wash and packs up to store as one unit. I've had it for nearly 2 years. I haven't used it to slice veggies, so can't comment on that. I wanted an… Read more
inexpensive model, and this fitted the bill. I can see if I used it heavily (ie, several times a week) it might be flimsy and I've seen other people here comment about the motor burning out. If I'd planned to use it heavily, I would've invested more money and bought Kitchen Whiz Pro or similar.
I have no complaints about it. Easy to use, everything packs together for storage. Nothing.
Wouldn't buy it again – Bought the Breville Kitchen Wizz BFP 400-41 18 months ago. I wouldn't buy it again. In the 18 months I have replaced the bowl twice @$25.10 each time and the lid once @$14.50. The warranty is for 1 year from when you purchase it, but new parts only have a 3 month warranty. In each case one of the lock in mechanisms broke making the Wizz unusable.… Read more
I have looked after it and have never dropped it and use it fortnightly to monthly. To add insult to injury, care factor zero from staff in Fitzroy Factory Outlet and on Breville Customer Service Phone Line. On a positive note when bits aren't broken it has worked well and met our needs.
