I’m blown away by how great this machine is. How simple it is to set up and operate. I’m in my 70’s and the hardest part for me was pulling it out of the box. Setting it up and using it was a breeze. It has a number of drink options including tea.… Read more

I was very surprised the water was actually hot enough to make tea. But it does make a nice hot cuppa. Coffee, latte, flat white. Cappuccino, and more are all at the push of a button. I love it. Best of all. As I said, it all happens at the push of a button. It’s so easy to use and is mess free. Absolutely love this machine.

Follow-up  · Forgot to add it hears up instantaneously. They say 3 seconds and I’d agree with that.

My machine broke after 11 months, it took breville 2 months and replaced countless parts and after returning the machine for repair 3 times as when I received it back it still did not work they decided it was unrepairable. Now 2 weeks later they sent out a replacement machine and sent the wrong machine. To say im unimpressed is an understatement. … Read more

I will never purchase another breville machine again, it has been the worst warranty experience of my life.

The espresso it produced was acceptable but not great, the milk frothing was ok, the grind size and amounts were not very consistent, the temps weren't bad though.

If it wasn't for the extremely poor warranty experience I would rate it a 3.

Have used 700 or 800g Lavazza coffee beans from the supermarket to date and got not a single coffee from it to drink. Tried everything I know and I do by now have some experience with home machines. Grind size, basket type, extraction time all adjusted many times over. I think I spent at minimum 4 hours over 9 days since purchase. That was prior… Read more

to failed call centre assistance. The call centre staff did do their best. Appeared to me to be very competent and were polite.

I have a Delonghi Dinamica and a Delonghi Magnifica, both have been amazing and not missed a beat. They are both pretty old by now, but work as they ever did. They have only ever been used with supermarket beans. I also have a Baratza coffee grinder that services two Delonghi Dedica, (smaller machine requiring ground beans). Again they have been amazing. Today, (after the 4 hour min troubleshooting I did myself), just spent over an hour and a half speaking with two support staff. The second started right back where the first (perfectly competent) support person did. Then factory reset. At one point during the second set of video calls, I said that I would be prepared to give it another 20 mins and then that was it. Obviously that time elapsed without resolution. . They consistently said they would send freshly roasted beans. It would appear that only freshly roasted beans under two weeks may be used. However. this machine is advertised to be able to use supermarket. You just have to use slightly different settings that the touchscreen will direct you to. My hope was a slightly better brew with supermarket coffee to serve to visitors. I have no intention of buying fresh beans as we are a family that uses so much. If using supermarket beans, the machine I received is not fit for purpose. If you want it to use for freshly roasted, (under 2 weeks they said), it may be good. I cannot speak to that. Photos attached are the semi automatic Delonghis that have worked so much better and have lasted years. This new Breville costs more. Interestingly, my completely un-tech-gadget savvy brother has used an earlier version of this Breville. It was good, although he said it did only last to just past warrantee date. In this instance Betta refunded fully. However will presumably have to sell as display stock if Breville do not receive as a return.

I’m impressed! This coffee machine makes beautiful coffee, just as good as you would get in a café – if not better in some cases. I got the black truffle version, and it looks great in the kitchen. It doesn’t take up a huge amount of space either. You can read about all the different features on the Breville website, but I’ll list the ones… Read more

that I really like. 1. The tamping lever. This makes tamping the coffee grinds so easy and effortless. It applies exactly the right pressure to ensure an evenly and correctly compressed puck for the perfect dose. 2. There is a self-learning feedback mechanism in which if the initial grind doesn’t correctly fill the portafilter cup. It will grid a bit more and learn that for next time. Alternatively, if it is over filled and needs leveling off, it will learn to reduce the grind a bit next time. When starting with a new batch of different beans you generally do this process as part of dialling in. 3. Auto MilQ hands-free microfoam. This feature allows you to set the amount of milk foam you desire from a very flat white to a frothy cappuccino. I have been using to create the perfect creamy texture to have some fun with coffee art. 4. ThermoJet heating system. This makes hot water or steam in about 3seconds. It makes the extraction process and milk heating and frothing process very fast. There are a number of temperature settings to choose from according to your preference. 5. The touch screen is responsive and intuitive to follow. In fact, the on-screen instructions and icons guide you through everything, from setup, to dialling in the perfect grind and dose to all the various cleaning processes. It even lets you know when to run a clean or descale. It makes it so simple. 6. The build quality is very good with a solid feel and robustness. 7. Easy to clean after use. The pull-out drip tray is very simple to clean after each use. There is also a hidden accessory tray behind it which you use to store the different size portafilter cups, a brush, the leveller and milk frother cleaner. The drip tray has a little notch which grabs the accessory tray automatically so it is easy to pull out when needed. 8. It is very consistant in the coffee it produces each time. Once you dial in your preferences, it will produce exactly what you want every time. I have yet to experiment with all the various options as I tend to be a simple flat white person. But I will be getting to them over next year. I am also enjoying experimenting with different coffee beans and roasts. I revisit in 12 months and do an update on this review.

Would I buy it again? At this early stage of use, most definitely. I love it and I am loving the beautiful coffee.

Amazing coffee – I love this machine . It was to upgrade my machine and I have always stayed away from more manual machines and gone for automatic. After watching many videos online and reading reviews on the Black Friday sales I saw this machine come up for one day at a discount. The coffee machine is great. The interface is wonderful. It’s easy to use it… Read more

step-by-step process. It walks you through how to clean things when they need to be cleaned it prompts you into doing maintenance on the machine and when it needs maintenance.

And the most important thing is it makes a fantastic coffee and it makes it selection of a lot of different coffees as well. There’s lots of different variations in how you would like the coffee the frothing what type of milk and it’s all done for you.

I have reduced the amount of times that we have been going to buy coffee now because I am satisfied with the machine.

I did buy a Nespresso pop vertuo and I found that I was constantly buying capsules and that if you run out because they’re not available supermarket, you have to buy them online or go into a Nespresso machine store. So I still have that machine but I no longer use it.

There is a different version of the touch that doesn’t have the impress which is the handle on the side which compresses the coffee beans. I was very tempted to buy that version as well either would’ve been fine but it was just that this one came up on the black Friday sales and it’s good. You press the handle down and it tells you when you’ve got exactly the amount of coffee beans and whether you trim it or not all the tools there so if you’re looking at getting this machine don’t hesitate really is a good machine. And it’s not noisy

Have realistic expectations when buying refurbished coffee machines – I ordered a Breville Barista Touch Impress from the Breville shop on ebay. It was advertised as "refurbished" (used an then cleaned and re-sold). FYI, if you're as confused by the Breville models as I was, look at https://comparisontabl.es/breville-espresso-machines/ for a fairly up to date, side by side comparison. I had to send the machine… Read more

back after three days as the tamping function would not work. The touch impress has a manual tamp function, but the dosing (coffee grinding) is supposed to be automatic based on the size and number of drinks you are making. You tamp (compress) the ground coffee using a lever on the left of the machine, and there is supposed to be a visual display on the touch screen (green lines) indicating the tamp quality. My machine did not have this, and for some reason every coffee was under-dosed. The instructions didn't mention the tamping indicator on the screen - see the bottom of page 15 in the instructions here: https://assets.breville.com/BES881/BES881_USCM_IB_F24_LR.pdf - I had to look up several Youtube videos for this machine to try to figure out what was going wrong.

As a result, the coffee was universally terrible. The milk frothing function, assisted by a temperature sensor under the jug, was pretty good though.

To Breville's credit, they did make it easy to return the machine, for no cost, for a complete refund.

A bit disappointed that a refurbished machine did not appear to have been tested. The instructions are also vague in places: other than the tamping indicator, the machine came with a 'dosing' funnel (stops the grounds from flying all over the place when used with OTHER Breville coffee makers. When used with this one, though, the dosing funnel made the machine display an error message that wasn't in the user guide. And you shouldn't have to trawl through Youtube to find out how to operate the machine or diagnose simple errors.

I did appreciate the touch screen's initial setup sequence that guides you through the setup and coffee making process, but with the tamper not working, I could not complete this setup sequence.

Not a great coffee making experience, but the refund process was quick and painless. I can't comment on actual service/repairs. I am considering whether or not to buy another Breville machine.

Edit: Ended up buying the low-end BES870. All manual. Much happier.

Quality product makes a great coffee – Very neat and functional unit is a great addition to our kitchen. Superbly designed product using quality components is a breeze to use. Can't beat Breville for home coffee machines.

Very inconsistent results both with espresso shots and milk frothing – I have had the Breville the Barista Touch Impress espresso machine for a little bit more than a week now and I have been extremely disappointed at its complete lack of consistency both while brewing espresso shots and frothing milk. Following the intelligent dosing instructions to get the correct grind size on fresh new coffee beans delivered by… Read more

Breville's very own Beanz.com website, I have not been able to get two consecutive espresso shots that were of acceptable quality. After adjusting the grind setting according to the machine instructions 3 or 4 times before getting to a point of a 30s shot extraction, the follow up shot always ends up being over extracted and lasting 50s before the machine gives up. This is ridiculous, I have wasted half my bags of beans on just adjusting the grind setting constantly and no two consecutive shots end up the same! This is with week old roasted beans too! The machine will also not detect when the bean hopper is empty, causing the dose calculation to be completely wrong if you run out of beans while grinding.

The same situation occurs with the milk frothing. The temperature sensor being outside of the jug and making contact with the bottom of the jug, the type of jug you use to put the milk in matters a lot. The Breville provided jug has a very thick metal base so it conducts the heat slower to the sensor. If you use a standard milk jug that has a thinner base, you always get warm milk instead of hot milk. Even with the offical Breville jug, the temperature and texture of the milk will completely differ whether you fill the jug to the minimum line or the maximum capacity. Here again, this is with the easiest possible milk to texture: fresh full fat dairy milk. This is extremely disappointed as this is highlighted as one of the big selling point for this machine.

I have been in touch with Breville support regarding both of these issues and they have provided a code to get a replacement machine. I am yet to be able to replace it in store because stock is low at the moment across Sydney, but I do hope the replacement machine will fare better. I somehow doubt so, as it all feels like these issues are due to design problems. Time will tell.

Right now, this feels like I wasted a lot of money on a coffee machine that is not as smart as advertised.

Update: I have received the new machine and the new machine somehow is worse! When steaming milk it fails with error ER09 and shuts down in the middle of steaming! That's it I am returning this for good, this is a flawed design.

Best appliance I have ever owned! – We bought Breville’s Barista Touch Impress coffee machine a number of months ago and found we loved it instantly, and that love has only grown with time. At first glance, the sea salt finish and compact design of the machine really pleased us. It has a feel of quality and style which goes beyond simply how the machine looks. The touch screen… Read more

adds to the modern feel and look of the machine. The menu is very easy to navigate and extremely responsive, meaning we have been able to make barista quality coffee at home, consistently and with minimal effort.

We have found the machine has a number of outstanding features that contribute to the ease of use and quality of the coffee. Firstly, the tamping handle on the side limits mess and fuss, and when tamping the machine automatically senses if more beans need grinding, or if the grinds need trimming. The adjustments needed appear on the touch screen and if more grinding is required, the instruction of ‘a bit more’ appears and it’s simply a matter of pressing the screen and a few more beans are grinded and added. You then simply retamp and the machine again lets you know if a further adjustment is required or if the measurement is correct for a perfect coffee. The next step is to move the portfilter into the middle section of the machine and place your cup to receive the brew. As you will see in the added photos the crème produced is extremely high quality and timed on the screen so you can see if it flows between the ideal 25-30 secs producing the perfect coffee that is not too bitter or burnt. The other very useful feature is that once you have your grind setting set for a particular bean, the machine intuitively adjusts based on the brew time. As novice coffee makers we found this feature particularly useful and accurate.

The final part is the inbuilt milk frother that gives you the option to auto froth or manual (we always use auto and it froths perfectly). The milk frothing is where your selected drink type comes into play. The machine has options for long black, short black, latte, flat white, cappuccino, hot chocolate and even tea. Your selection is accurately reflected in the milk froth. We have found our coffee to be nice and hot and not burnt. We further aide having a hot coffee by pre filling our cups with boiling water, then disposing before brewing. We have also found the guided cleaning setting very useful. When we bought the machine we got a complimentary 3 month ‘Beanz’ subscription and we found it was a great way to test a variety of beans for half the price, delivered to our door. We also looked out for a good ‘store cash’ deals with The Good Guys, which meant $200 credit to spend on a future purchase. The price also included concierge credit with The Good Guys, which means we have extra warranty and a $20 credit at least 3 times a year, which we use to purchase new water filters for the water tank. Finally, the ease of cleaning the machine, with guides and prompts, and a small concealed draw behind the drip tray, mean keeping it clean does not feel like a chore. If I had to come up with a negative, the sea salt coating at the front of the drip tray became chipped within the first week of owning and has slightly distracted from the incredibly luxurious and plush feel of the machine. The part can be replaced with stainless steel at a cost which we are considering doing. Overall, owning the Breville Barista Touch has brought a joy to my mornings I wasn’t expecting. My husband, my son and myself all look forward to our daily coffee, and actually enjoy feeling like a real barista when using this machine.

Issues and confusion with Milk Temperature setting – Update: 03Jan24 The big realization now is that you cannot have memory for the grind size setting. Whatever you set the current grind size to, it changes for all of the saved drinks. This is really messy if you are using different coffee beans on a regular basis and have saved different grinds size settings for each of those coffee beans (which is… Read more

my use case, as i am experimenting with beans all the time). I now have a little note that is my memory of the different grind size settings for the different coffee beans that i use.

I understand that the grind size is a mechanical setting, but Breville could at least have had a red flag setup where if the current grind size doesn't match the saved setting, it notifies you.

Update: 02Nov23 So... No resolution from Breville after escalating through the ProductReview website. A short rant about their customer service - it sucks. After explaining the whole issue to them again, they still come back with the same standard FAQ / Q&A without really attempting to understand the problem at all. Very very scary - very very disappointing. If i were to club the rating of customer service along with product, this would be 2 Stars.

Original review: around 15Aug2023 Purchased this machine around 15 days ago. while i wont comment about the coffee quality itself (i'm no coffee snob) and the machine works pretty well for what it says on the tin, i have a problem with the milk temperature setting.

whatever temperature i set the milk to, the machine stops off at 60deg. i noticed this just a few days ago and realized this must have been a day one issue. opened a ticket with breville today and after a robotic and almost stupid first reply, i was then told that my machine was defective and to take it back for a replacement.

so i just got this replaced today and out of the box, the exact same problem. i set my coffee to 70deg, the machine stops at some predefined time and the temp indicator shows 60deg (+-1 deg). i cant be bothered to go back to breville support, as they didn't seem to be interested in real troubleshooting or daresay, even understanding my problem.

i have seen this issue raised by a few other customers in the Barista Touch reviews as well, but couldn't seem to see a breville answer.

so breville... is there a fix to this? is the temperature actually reaching 70deg but showing 60 on screen? (software bug) is the temperature sensor faulty? is this a faulty batch of machines? am i doing something wrong?

i cant be bothered to take it back again for a replacement, it's such an excessive effort.

breville, if you have to solve my problem, please put me in touch with some one in your company who knows this machine and what they are talking about; technical is fine. please dont make me suffer another round of simplistic and robotic Q&As esp for a machine that costs a premium and should be seamless out of the box.

Buyer beware – Terrible machine. After only having the machine for 3 weeks, when frothing the milk the machine would have an error code and switch off. This would happen on and off for the next week. We returned the machine and received a new one and only after 2 weeks the same thing would happen. We returned it for a full refund. Very disappointed with this machine. Show details

Very intuitive, easy to use, and makes a good coffee – The automatic grinding cradle with tamping lever makes getting the correct dose level right, along with the visual display that notifies you of whether the dose is to low or to much, with a green tick when the recommended level is reached. The automatic milk frother textures the milk just as good as manually doing it. The coffee tastes great. The… Read more

Easy to use - great espresso – I purchased this to replace my Breville dual boiler with a separate grinder. It lasted 7 years and was still going OK but I wanted something more compact. So I thought I'd try the Touch Impress for a bit of fun and wasn't disappointed. The tamping arm works well and the display prompts you if it thinks there is not enough in the basket. bit more and remembers the setting for next time, so makes it easy to dial in a new batch of coffee. It is the first Breville that uses the Baratza burrs in the grinder (Beville bought Baratza), so I'm assuming they are doing a great job. The espresso is pretty good. The automatic milk steaming is good for a latte but can't really do cappuccino. Fortunately, you can use the steam wand manually and can get excellent cappuccino foam. It does oat/almond/soy milk as well but I haven't tried those settings. Looks great in the black truffle colour. Very convenient and fun to use with no mess. The display works well. Very happy with it so far.

Update 18/1/2025 - the steam wand failed to produce any steam. I got it repaired under warranty but then the auto-level dosing feature was not working (would not recognise the level) and then finally the steam wand failed again (after 2 days). Breville is sending a new machine so we'll see how this one goes! It was working well up to this point, producing great coffees. Update 25/1/2025 - Breville sent a new machine from their warehouse. It is working perfectly. We'll see how long this one lasts.
