Best Smoothie maker ever – I bought this BL800 secondhand for $20! What a bargain. It makes the best smoothies ever! I also use it to make slushies and they come out perfect. I can't fault it and it was a bargain to boot.  Show details

Quality so poor the blade assembly cracked in less than 12 months – We bought this super expensive blender and in less than 12 months of rare and very gentle use, the blade assembly has cracks. This is a consumable product and not covered by warranty. Do you really want to buy a blender whose base cracks in less than 12 months ? The cost of the replacement is worth two cheap blenders from kmart. Very unhappy. You can't even make a smooth dip in this blender. Just chunks all the time. Show details

Poor performance – Just bought the Breville Kinetix Pro today. Very disappointed with making a smoothie — even after doing the smoothie cycle x3 and blender x1, the consistency is not smooth at all!! Still had some small chunks of banana and can see small strings of the leafy greens!! Contacted the store straight away as I bought this product from their recommendation. They were happy to order and exchange for the actual brand that I was originally after. Show details

Below level of other breville products. Solid, but not a great choice – I have several Breville products and even plan others in future purchases, but this product is actually a let down. Good: - the product is solid and has been reliable Bad: - lack of any speed control restricts what can be done with this blender - extremely tall jug (large flange) relative to internal size means difficult to fit in the… Read more

In the end it is hard to justify the counter space given the limitations. The functions on the buttons are limited and it does them all very well so you get what you see. But having used a blender for some time, I find the product limited. For many people, pay more and get a flexible product that will do more....or may as well get a cheapie.

In the end I would move to 'The Boss' as a better product, except the world seems to be moving to blenders with not only variable speed but also heating, something Breville does not yet make, so the move will probably be to another brand.

Keep realistic expectations and you'll be fine – I was doing circuits of the appliances sections at David Jones trying to take in all the options available as far as blenders go, and obviously decided on the BBL800. In the end the balance of price and brand reputation is what got me to hand over my money, and because the Tefal item I was originally looking for at the same price point wasn't… Read more

available in store.

On the plus side, this blender is totally adequate.

- Controlling the unit is simple - really, you only have three options: blend, blend/pulse, pulse; and these are all pre-programmed.

- The design seems to be pretty reliable for making sure everything gets mixed through and has its chance getting hammered by the horror-movie-brutal looking blades.

- It manages wonderfully to blend anything from dry solids to frozen nonsense. Ice cream, smoothies, dicing (or mangling) vegetables.

- It's pretty. ish.

There's a handful of drawbacks.

- As others have mentioned, fibrous stuff tends not to be very well blended (spinach and kale are particularly bad) and so the texture might not be good for delicate souls.

- Blending stuff into high-volume, dense liquids (eg: 10 bananas, 2 cups water) does this thing where, during pulse cycles, the lid can actually be pushed loose. I don't know if this is because I use the device pretty intensely and in doing so have softened the lid or if it's just being subjected to immense pressures inside the machine, but I made the mistake of walking off for 30 seconds once; haven't done that again. This isn't a deal breaker for me.

- Not tightening the blade in can be also be a lesson in humility. I was flippant one day about tightening it properly and BBL taught me a valuable lesson by blending itself loose and leaking a quarter of my breakfast onto the base and kitchen counter.

- Cleaning is generally pretty easy, but there's a recess between the jug and base of the jug that can be a real drag to get into, and because it is right underneath the clear bottom of the jug it looks really grubby if you don't get to it straight away.

All in all, I'm happy enough with it.

It does what I expected, it hasn't missed a beat, and as long as you keep an eye on it while it's doing its business you should be able to avoid painting your walls with banana.

If you buy this expecting a Vitamix or Blendtec level of performance you're bound to be disappointed - remember that even at retail prices you're only forking out a quarter of that lucrative cash money.

Happy with this product – I have fruit smoothies most mornings and blend a range of ingredients regularly through this blender including frozen fruit (cut up into smaller pieces before freezing) muesli and ice. no trouble. I think this is a very good product and I would recommend to anyone looking for a higher end blender without all the buttons and controls as the Breville only has four and is very easy to use. Cleaning is easy too. Would recommend buying on sale if possible (I used gift vouchers and waited for a sale at Myer for mine) as it is quite pricey. Although it has lasted me two years and counting already. Simple controls, looks good, good quality, easy to clean, BPA free plastic Sometimes grit gets caught in the blades and in the rubber seal (although I'm sure this would occur with all blenders, a little pricey if you purchase it full price

Doesn’t do what it says! – Terrible - we love to make smoothies, it doesn’t make a smooth smoothie. It’s chuncky and you have to eat your smoothie. So if you like to put raw veg in your smoothie don’t buy it. Terrible - customer service, I asked for some support and suggestions - never heard back. The positive, it’s quiet (probably because it can’t do the job) and it looks nice in the bench.  Show details

Poor base finish, lack of control, short useful life – After perhaps 2 years of only light and very occasional (monthly) use our unit finally flatly refused to work. base, which goes off as soon as the jug is put in place. This blender was never worth the high purchase price. The automatic only (no manual override) functions were not any better than I could have archieved with a speed control and an on/off button. It was annoying to clean and the jug had to be pulled part completely after every use. My brother had a couple of problems with the base leaking (I learned to make doubly sure the blades were tightly in place). The stainless steel look of the base started to bubble and look trashy after about 12 months. Nevertheless I expected the electronic control system to be reliable and durable, and not the weakest point. I bought this Breville unit, at a much higher price than some other brands, only because we have had reliable performance from some (not all) of their products in the past. The rapidly deteriorating appearance and short working life of this unit means I will not replace it with another Breville. I will also be buying a unit which has manual controls, not automatic.

Amazing Blender had it for at least 3 years – This is a great blender that I've bought from Breville, I bought it about 3 years ago and it's still working pretty well. We make smoothies, milkshakes, slushies etc. I don't think it's a good idea to continually blend ice in it, but it's strong enough to handle ice once in a while. the jug. The jug is also quite sturdy, as I've dropped it once in a while, and it's still fine.

Pros:

- Easy to use, has about 4 modes including blend, ice etc.

- Easy to clean, detachable blades means you can clean it properly

- Blends ice well and very sturdy

- Blends and mixes very well (consistency of the smoothie etc. is smooth)

Cons:

- Relatively expensive (but it's worth it)

- A little bit noisy

Excellent blender – Does excellent smoothies, crushes ice with no trouble. Half of the reviews say that blending tricky stuff like kale doesn't work well enough. However, blending kale with a bit of liquid (yoghurt or milk) alone on "blend" for about two minutes did the trick -… Read more ·  1

adding the fruit and more liquid and running the "smoothie" program afterwards resulted in a silky smooth smoothie.

Since there chopping blade unit screws into the jug with a silicone seal, I'd expect some leakage if it's not tightened enough. In my case the seal looks pretty tight so far.

Can't review the customer service and replacement procedures yet as this blender is new and not broken yet.

Not good for vegetables/green smoothies but otherwise a very nice blender – I got this because I wanted something better than my stick blender for smoothies, soups, etc, and I wanted to try making green smoothies instead of my usual fruit ones. The controls are very easy and convenient - just hit a button and let it do its thing. The downside is they don't give you much (or any?) control. You can't set it on high, you… Read more

just have to choose "blend" (a medium speed), "smoothie" (mixture of blend and pulse), or "ice" (pulse at a higher speed). Each button runs for a preset time of about a minute, or you can stop it sooner. I found with nearly everything that I had to run it multiple times to get the result I wanted.

It's good for cooked soups, fruit smoothies and the like, where the ingredients already somewhat softened. It was fine blending frozen fruit and ice. One particular highlight is that it makes a beautifully creamy, frothy smoothie with minimal dairy (just whey protein powder in my case). I made a quick pumpkin soup by throwing in stock, leftover roast onion, roast pumpkin with skin on and a handful of fresh parsley and it blended it very smooth, with just green flecks remaining of the skin and parsley.

The downside is you can't blend tougher stuff very well. It was able to blend raw carrots into grain-sized bits but didn't seem like it was going to ever get them finer. Green smoothies have lots of little bits no matter how long I blended. With the controls you get (especially no high speed option), you just can't get there.

The jug is easy to disassemble and clean. As others have mentioned, you have to be careful to tighten it all the way when you assemble it. The noise level is good for a blender. It looks great and it's not too tall so it fits on the bench under my kitchen cabinets (last blender didn't do that). The jug is a good large capacity too.

There's a lot I like about this blender, and it's a big step up from some of the cheaper ones I've had in the past. I'm having a hard time deciding if I should return it and buy a Vitamix or something, just for the green smoothies, when it does everything else well. This isn't a blender at that level even if I'd prefer it was.

moves the contents around in the jug fairly well so it all gets blended. You have to make sure you've tightened the blade up correctly (by hand) or you'll end up with smoothie all over the bench, this has happened to me a few times. Breville Blender BBL 800 – Not happy with purchase! I purchased the BBL800 blender as a gift and it is now out of warranty. The finish/coating on the base of the blender is bubbling/lifting. thinking to get the Kinetix Control but prefer the higher watts hoping for better result from blending). I bought this machine this noon (12Aug13).

The design looks very sleek and really love the silver metal color which matches all my Breville products. Based on Breville website, it states it has the "quiet operation" and the only blender model of Breville has such function. I was so excited and kinda expected this product will satisfy me for my blending needs. Note that most reviews give this product average rating which is below rating than most of other slightly cheaper blenders but I still decided to buy this as I trust Breville.

However, when i turned the blender, I notice the sound is really loud and the jug's silver base keeps knocking the metal motor base. As such, it makes very annoying "knocking" sound on top of the machine sound. Also, it really does not blender "green" stuffs well and it is still very coarse. I am really upset and disappointed as I have paid more to get top range Breville blender and being a loyal customer of Breville. Now, it makes me thinking probably I should have got the omni-blend blender which all reviews points out to be good. In a conclusion, I am disappointed with this product. Design Everything else.

in comparison. I like the shape of the carafe, nice flat sides so easy to rinse/clean. It pours nicely, although I always get some smoothie left on the spout that I have to lick off so it doesn't drip down.

As for the button options, they are simple. 'Blend', 'Smoothie' (cycles through a lower speed and pulsing), and 'Ice' (pulses). For general smoothie needs, 'Blend' works just fine. The buttons themselves are beautiful, and easy to press and use.

I want to be able to make green smoothies so the lack of higher speed settings doesn't help in that regard. I can make some green smoothie recipes, depending on the ingredients. For example, it struggles with carrots. Your green smoothie will be highly pulpy/stringy/fibrous/textured. Some people might not mind, some will.

When cleaning, be sure to clean under the rubber seal as I always get smoothie mixture there. Sturdy, attractive, nice jug design Simple button options - no high speed setting

Disappointed with Breville – Breville appliances are meant to be the best in the country , or so they say. leaked.

It was out of the 2 year warranty period so we just ordered a new one.

The second one has now cracked in the bakelite in less than 12 months. I questioned Breville about whether the replacement blade/bases were still made the same as its not worth ordering another one if its going to crack in a short time. They indicated they were the same. They indicated the initial unit was warrantied for 2 years but a new part which was exactly the same did not carry any warranty. Disallusion No. 1.

We had purchased a different model Breville blender previously and when the blades on that unit wore out we couldnt even order new ones. We had to replace the whole blender. Disallusion No. 2.

We have since purchased a different brand and are quite happy.

We are very disallusioned about Breville knowing they have a poorly manufactured part, not improving it and not covering it with warranty. Good while it lasted Expensive and no warranty on a replacement poorly constructed part

Breville blender BBL800 purchase put on hold – I wanted to do Green smoothies (smoothie with green leafy veges) so I thought BBL800, 2000 watt motor, Special Hemisphere bowl etc etc. Smoothie cycles and all. So I read one user review that said Don't buy if you want to make green smoothies. So just before going to Bing Lee to pick up my good deal I decided to ring Breville customer service… Read more

and get their opinion before doing my money.

Firstly they did not know what a green smoothie was. After a bit of silence and then put on hold I was told that "No, it will not do the task unless I shred the green leaves, spinach etc beforehand and even then it may not be very successful.

I asked why and the lady said the blades were not sharp enough. The earlier user review said it was because the blades turn too slowly.

Too my surprise I got out my old Braun multi Processor/Blender which is getting ancient and worn. Processor part is no good (just bought a Breville BFP800). Not being into smoothies all the years I had it, I decided to give it a go. Blunt blades and all. It worked like a dream and pureed the greens, crushed the ice and pureed the fruit all into a great Green Smoothie. However I am not sure how long it will last so that is my reason for checking out the BBL800.

If some user out there or some one at Breville could tell me Breville customer service is wrong with their info I would still consider purchasing the BBL800 blender.

There is a Breville promo on YouTube for this blender. The lady is making a papaw and banana smoothie. At the end she shows how beautifully the machine blended the fruit and ice.

Then she pours it into a glass and as she does so one can see big lumps of fruit plopping into the glass.

If only one could talk to someone in the test kitchen or whatever instead of a sort of help line which covers all manner of queries.

Apparently can't blend Green Smoothies.

Will it Blend ? (TM) – Well.. in fear of infringing on a trademark, I haven't tried to blend my iPhone just yet. list can be quite extensive.

When it comes to operation and features, here's what should be written on the front panel, including a single button:

Would you like to BLEND?

If "YES", press "BLEND".

If "NO", return blender to cupboard.

As you've guessed, the features are virtually non-existent. Where other blenders present you with a plethora of buttons and programs for which you would have to spend a week at NASA for, this marvel only presents four buttons on the panel:

1) Power (I could live without that .. you decide)

2) Blend (Blend? what's this do? Now where did I put that instruction manual. Oh right, of course, silly me; Refer to above feature suggestion)

3) Smoothie (I'll blend, I'll stop, .. then I'll blend some more, perhaps keep you entertained whilst I make you a nice delicious smoothie. Hey watch me turn on and off. I can do it again if you like.)

4) Ice (Refer to program 3 above, .. just with some more random stops thrown in for good measure)

So there we have it.. 2 programs (well kind of). Oh yes, I should add that both of those and in fact all of the speeds of the blender are the same. Motor goes on... motor goes off. Pure simplicity. I'm sure they thought it was genius when they designed it.

OK.. so do I like it? As a matter of fact, yes I do. Probably because I had a really bad blender before this which would have strugged to blend a glass of water. Simplicity aint a bad thing in my book so I'm not begrudging a lack of LCD displays and 400 recipe modes. The single speed however had me a bit miffed I have to admit. Would be nice if there was some varying degree of blending action.

The overall design is otherwise great. Sturdy, nice jug, simple to clean, powerful enough it is.. but.. as I mentioned above, it probably fails against other serious contenders if you try to get a bit creative with it. Good for the money - let's leave it at that. Simple, clean, nice sturdy design. Oh and it's quiet. Nice and quiet. No varying speed
