I bought this small air purifier for my bedroom. I didn't really think it would make a hugh difference, but it was pretty inexpensive so I thought I'd give it a go. Every night I have to use nasal spray to help me breath properly. Since using the purifier I've stopped with the nasal spray. I'm pretty astounded. I'd definately recommend this purifier for smaller rooms.

Discrepancy in particulate reading with no response from Breville – Purchased three new air filters of the Breville brand. Placed all three in the same room to set up and function check. Two units read mostly between 1-5 on the particulate reading whilst out of the box one reads 20+ and goes into the 30+. Emailed Breville fifteen days ago with multiple follow up emails trying to get assistance. I have not heard… Read more

back from them. They have been provided two case numbers during my correspondence to them. I receive no reply of assistance or explanation but still get emails from them advertising more stuff. Two units appear to be operating well for the first 15 days. As can be seen in the picture with three units running in the same room the particulate reading has a significant difference in reading.

Breath of fresh air at home – Breville's LAP208WHT air purifier is a game-changer. I like the compact design and how quiet it functions, particularly on the night time setting. We run this daily, and I find works like a charm especially with small children in the house. The filter is super easy to clean, and it’s very lightweight for ease of moving. It does have an app, if I don’t find the app particularly user friendly so I always use the buttons on the device. Show details

Breathe easy with virus protection – We had a non smart compact Breville air purifier during Covid for the kids rooms, worked so well we only had one kid at a time sick when they inevitably brought it home from school. Since you just cant legally Glen 20 a human this was the best option! So when it came time for a room extension we picked this upgrade version for the new room. Quiet,… Read more

efficient and not energy hungry, this one has an added bonus of dampening our allergy prone child's hayfever, whoop, take that pollen. Each 12 months you need to change filter costing about $70, and so simple to do, unscrew base, pull old out, put new in, reattach, and EXHALE.... Using this little germ banisher is also simple, turn on level of airflow and filtering time you want, and let it do its thing, sucking the life out of the room, killing with impunity, then puffing out the sterility. Lovely. Footprint is small, sits next to eack kids desk, less than knee high. Wipe it over once a month with a spray sanitising cleaner. Happy and healthy is what you will be.

It's been worth it – I bought this was 18 months ago and barely used it. However, we moved house and I started using it in the lounge room because my partner vapes inside and I don't like to open the window because the broken fence outside is asbestos. I've basically just used this machine for airflow, almost like a fan. That is, until yesterday....for a week I've… Read more

had acute bronchitis after catching a cold and the coughing really started to get on my nerves (it's been 10 days, my patience is thin now). So, I spent the day cleaning the house and vaccuming etc to try and get rid of any amount of irritation that I can, just to catch a break from the coughing.

I moved the purifier into the spare room where I've been sleeping so I don't wake my partner up, and I left it it on medium all night. After 15 minutes I stopped coughing and I didn't cough once all night! On top of that, my nose was clear and I just felt like I could generally breathe.

I told my partner because yesterday he was saying I'm just being silly, I'm sick and cleaning everything isn't going to fix it, and I said "But we've been using this a lot in the lounge and if you think about it, there's no dust in here" and he was shocked, the penny dropped that the TV cabinet hadn't been wiped down for 6 months, yet it really has no dust to bother wiping down.

I absolutely love this thing now! The fact that it gave me relief for this never ending cough has been a game changer. I've done everything else (cough medicine, steam therapy, puffer, tea etc), nothing has brought me the relief that this air purifier has.

Love this unit! – This is great in the bedroom as I wake up with less allergy symptoms. I love how it visually lights up with the colours and it specifies the number level. After a year, I changed the filter, but it didn't seem to be working properly. A call to the Breville helpline solved that with step by step instructions on resetting etc. I was really impressed… Read more

I've had this Air Purifier for 8 months now and it has worked a treat! With a busy work/family life we tend to forget that the quality of oxygen that our precious lungs are inhaling is very important. Our house is very busy with animals and kids, within a few touches on this beauty I can set a timer for 2/4/8hrs, turn on the Microshield option which helps filter out allergens and pet particles and helps decrease bacteria around the home - LED lights help the customer identify the current quality of air within that space, the light will go red if air quality is bad, yellow if it's somewhere in between, and remains blue if air quality is good. I've used this in small spaces and large spaces - I will say you will see optimal performance within small spaces.

Poor quality and faulty product – Bought this product a week ago. Air quality light wasn't working properly (Didn't change colour from blue at all) and instructions said to make sure UV-C light is working or get it serviced. But there was no light showing UV-C on control panel and instruction book didn't show where it was either so retailer told us to contact Breville. It took… Read more

them 2 days to get back to us and they told us to test air quality light by putting dusty tissue over sensor and see if it changed then. They didn't seem to know where the UV-C light was either as they could give us no answer to that. After leaving the purifier running all night for several nights and several hours per day in a couple of different rooms my wife noticed no difference in her hay fever and allergies and when I checked filters they had no dust on them at all after all that time. Very low suction around unit so assume it was not drawing enough air in to achieve anything. Returned to retailer. Very disappointing

I am liking it so far, I do have a question – I love my purifier, it helps to remove smoke. We have a bird in the house so whenever I see the light turns red due to cooking smoke, or my bf came in from balcony with ciggie lingers around him, or when we used deodorant...this purifier never miss to indicate it. I will put my bird at somewhere with more ventilation. I found that when the… Read more

weather is humid, it seems to stay yellow more often. I do not think the air quality was poor, and once I turn the aircon on, the rings goes back to blue in a while. Does the humidity caused the dust stick to the sensor more? I don't know. Does anyone noticed this?

It’s just the best!!! Especially if you have a sensitive sense of smell! – I love this Air purifier. We have the smaller model in my bedroom which is wonderful and we bought this one for the living room. It gets rid of the smells from our indoor dogs, cooking smells, most smells really! I have a nose like a bloodhound so it’s just a godsend. Great to use Iin the kitchen when chopping onions to stop from crying. And… Read more

So Far Seems Like a Great Unit – I got this purifier yesterday and so far all is well. It looks good, and the coloured rings of light that indicate the quality of the air in the room is a great idea. It has four stages - BAD/MEDIUM/MODERATE/GOOD and using mine in my bedroom it went from BAD to GOOD in just a couple of hours. I have only one misgiving about the appliance: you have… Read more

to replace the filter every 6 months (if you run it 24/7) and they cost $75, so this machine will cost you up to $150 a year to run! From what I can gather, when the machine determines the filter is full, it will not operate any longer until you replace it! It is required for the user to vacuum clean the filter every so often, but this does not improve it's overall life. So you really have to decide if clean air is important enough to you to spend $279 on the unit and then $150 per year thereafter. In my case, I got it because I have a rather dusty environment in my bedroom and I've set the machine near my new, expensive computer to keep the dust out of it. I would feel better if the filter was able to be washed, but you cannot, and would last a few years, but NO. You can only vac it. It has four fan levels, and when on the highest it is a little noisy but the air really pours out of it. On low, you cannot hear it from a meter away.

Such A Relief – I live in a close cluster of units and a very close neighbour installed a wood heater, from which the smoke from the flue infultrates my roof cavity and then every room of my unit through the heating ducts, which was leaving a campfire like smell and worse still, was triggering my asthma. I researched which brands of air purifiers were… Read more

recommended by Senstive Choice as I noticed that some air purifiers can actually hinder asthma not assist with the problem. I found the Breville Smart Air was on their recommended list and was reasonably priced, both initially and then for replacement filters, and whilst there is a smaller and larger option in the range, this one covered 40 sq mtrs and so I figured it would be perfect for my living area during the day which is just under 40 sq mtrs and bedroom of a night time which is a much smaller space. I am so thankful I made this purchase, it has certainly changed my life for the better. During the day, as I am currently working from home, I use the auto option that adjusts the fan speed between low, medium and high according to the air quality and of a night time I use the night function that allows me to sleep uninterrupted by only using the low fan speed which is very quiet. I was probably a little sceptical to begin with that it would make too much of a difference, but I can honestly say I have noticed a real difference in the air quality. I feel like in a more confined space like a bedroom there has certainly been noticeably crisper, cleaner air as I breath throughout the night and I have noticed I haven't been waking with asthma symptoms like tightness in my chest. Certainly throughout the day on the auto function, it has kept the living space free from that dreadful campfire smell even if it has had to work a little harder to do so in the larger area. I totally recommend this product and will be looking to purchase another in the future so I don't have to move the one I have back and forth between the rooms in my unit. Thanks Breville.

Good Value for a great product – So good I bought two. I have asthma and COPD and bought the purifiers during the Canberra bush fire smoke. They have never been switched off since. They are cheap to run and despite heavy use the filters don’t need changing. An added advantage of them is that they are very good at getting rid of cooking smells. People who have seen them in action have gone on to buy their own. Show details

Goodbye sinus problems! – I have chronic sinusitis and found at the end of summer that I was getting a flair up. over the top but sinusitis is hell. The only thing I would love is to be able to put the fan up when it is in night mode, but it’s still great. I run it almost constantly and hasn’t made a single dent in my electricity bill.

Very Good, does what is expected – I have the Philips Series 2000 Air Purifier, the Breville Smart Air Plus and the InovaAir DE20. They all work well. Both the Breville and the Philips have a sensor to measure PM 2.5. The numbers don't agree exactly but when the air quality is intermediate or worse, they concur. The InovaAir doesn't have a sensor to measure pollution and at over… Read more

$1500, it probably should. When you blow air from any of the purifiers to one of the sensors on the other machines, clean air is registered. They all work as designed and they are all good machines in different ways. The Breville has UV light to kill microbes but I'm not sure if this is a gimmick or genuinely useful. The InovaAir has a massive activated carbon filter which is good for smoke and odours. However, they all have decent HEPA filters. I'm waiting for a CHOICE review on all three of these machines. I am slightly disappointed that Breville doesn't have breakdown figures of CADR. The Philips machine specifies a CADR for smoke. The Breville just gives a general CADR figure.

Lifesaver in Canberra bushfire smoke – After the New Years’ Eve Canberra smokebomb and a visit to casualty for an asthmatic family member, this has saved us. When outside AQI was > 1000 we were inside at AQI 30 on turbo setting in an open plan area around 90m2 (80m2 is recommended area it can clean). When outside AQI 300 we were AQI 14 inside. air. The auto setting is ok, but for our extreme conditions we have run on high to turbo fan speed.

The only thing I would improve is the manual. After 10 days on high the air quality produced was not so good. A vacuum of filter/sensor and sensor reset did the trick. This normally only needs to be done monthly. Better guidance on vacuum strength needed. Also when resetting sensor, took a few goes on the power button. Separate reset would be good.

It’s little brother lap150 has been excellent clearing bedrooms around 20m2.

Thankyou Breville

Great product so far – This item was a God-send on 5 Jan in Canberra on our worst air quality in the world day. We couldn't run the air con - even though it's a closed system, smoke was still getting inside. So the air inside that day was still stale but breathable thanks to this purifier. It's been going a treat all other days. We bought a 2nd one so it can do the… Read more

whole house. I hope it stands the tests of time as it's not cheap. ($539 - LAP500WHT). Buying the bigger model ensures it can cope well with larger spaces. It's very fast with quickly purifying bad air albeit a bit noisy. Once back to a clean level, this purifier's blissfully silent. I'd also recommend stepping up all seals to doors and windows to reduce initial smoke, pollution etc. Also running a fan with it helps it to more quickly process any bad air. I hope air filter prices come down - they're not exactly cheap considering they'll need replacement after 3 months if you're running it 24/7. It's very simple to use and changing the filter looks very easy. It could do with handles cut into it to make it easier to move it. Nonetheless, it's very light. Like any purifier, the need for it to be 20cm away from anything makes it a bit of a trip hazard. Ideally it'd be great if something like this can be fitted into existing air con systems for a reasonable price. Maybe something like that already exists but over Xmas when tradies are on holiday, and with the fire smoke crisis, this purifier met the urgent and immediate need of the situation.

Excellent for clearing Bushfire smoke – I bought this purifier 2 weeks ago to clear my home of bushfire smoke. It is an excellent performer. I move it from our living areas during the day to the bedrooms at night. Most of the time it is not working very hard (low or medium setting when on Auto) so it seems easily able to deal with the bushfire pollution in our home. I looked at many… Read more

competing products including the Winix Zero, Philips, Dyson Pure etc before purchasing this product. In addition to filtering performance, Air purifiers have a significant ongoing cost in terms of replacing HEPA and carbon filters. I chose Breville because I can get replacement filters from a wide variety of retailers. I could also buy it immediately rather than having to wait for delivery. The Winix units are also excellent (check Kogan for the best price) but there is a much more limited range of places to buy filters. The Philips units have a great reputation but are priced considerably higher than Breville for a given level of performance. I considered the Dyson Pure - but that appears to be more of "a fan with a filter" than a "air purifier" thus, from what I can tell, its performance is likely to be below that of the Breville and Winix.

Breville units for different room sizes. $60-80 or so for a years filter replacement and 0.3kWh to 1.5kWh per day (24 hours) for the biggest unit doesn't seem too high a price for clean allergen free air.
