Horrible experience. I will never use again – I engaged [Name Removed] of Brisbane Timber Floors (also known as Floor.com.au) to sand and finish the floors in our newly purchased house. I went with [Name Removed] because he sounded convincing over the phone and sold the benefits of is rapid curing product so that we could move in sooner. When he finished the job, we were left with nearly… Read more
700 prominent white marks across our floor.
He said the product always went down white then cleared as it dried. He said the white marks would fade within six months. If you do basic google of this issue it is evident that white hazy marks in satin polyurethane are most often the result of poorly mixed product and do not fade. But we were stuck needing to wait out six months with a deflective floor.
After nearly six months I contacted him to let him know the marks had not faded and asked him to come over and have a look. He shouted over me on the phone. He refused to return to property to inspect defects. He said he would come over to fix it, but that there was a high risk of making it worse and that risk sat with me. He offered two unsatisfactory solutions - using a wax stick on each of the marks, or some local patching. He said I should be happy with the outcome because on the whole, the floor was better than before he started (?!), and he refused to redo the floor. He said the flaw may be with product he supplied, and that I would need to take it up with his overseas supplier (!?). He said the flaw was our fault because of the type of timber we had, and the type of nails used (?! the floor was 20 years old and had been coated successfully before without issue).
I needed to threaten civil action through QCAT to get a response.
In the end, after six months and lot of stress, and the threat of legal action, I got him to fix up the floor. When he came over, on seeing the floor, he incongruously said "Oh, its quite bad. If you had of told me how bad it was I would have come over".
He ended up redoing the whole upstairs floor. The product went down clear this time (not white!). Some of the former white marks remain but he is such an effort to deal with that I'm not going to pursue it further for now, while reserving my rights.
Overall, there's a lot of charm at the front end sales process, and a lot of dishonesty and avoidance of responsibility when things go wrong. He is quite unpleasant to deal with, talks over you and definitely not someone I would recommend. He charges a premium while leaving inferior outcomes.
Watch out for the changing business names.
