Honest recapture of the chain of events for all to consider engaging their service. Was asking for a rate for unblocking a sewer next day and got informed available next morning . Got informed $190/hr labour and material over the phone and agreed to proceed . No mentioning of any other machine charge or any extra. Send through an email requesting… Read more
for a formal quote , no response. After the job got charged for additional $120/hr machine hire ( more than you hire a bob cat) for a small snake drain cleaning machine and got informed that “ it’s standard practice, once the drain machine gets used it is additional $120/hr “Didn’t want to argue with the nice young plumber and just being respectful, paid the charge on the spot. Called the company and questioned this machine charges that had never been communicated through . Get told —“You are playing with words and machine will be charged and it’s standard rate. You’re telling me sending me an email 2:30pm and expect me to give you a quote for tomorrow morning?” “ Why did you pay the bill on the spot then” “ Oh you’re not going to get anyone to clean the drain for $190/hr in Perth”
Avoid them with a wide berth if you can .
We have used Brown's plumbing for years (extensively in our last residence due to water ingress issues) and we have always been very happy with their work. Recently we needed them to do a small plumbing job at our new residence. There was an issue with the work and we only needed to let them know and it was immediately rectified without complaint or argument from their side. Highly recommend this business.
Our strata management company recently contacted Browns Plumbing to obtain a quote to pump out 5 clogged soakwells in our complex which were overflowing in the recent heavy rains. I accompanied the plumber around our complex for the 15 mins he took to scope & assess the works. So it came as something of a "rude shock" when their "quote" arrived… Read more
which included an invoice of $168 for attending to provide a quote !!!
Not surprisingly their "quote" was by far the highest with a margin 30% greater than their next competitor. Nor did their written quote include the cost of having a skip delivered at their request and at our expense.
With extortionate business practices like these, we have instructed our strata managers we definitely dont want further contact with this company again. I'd suggest if you are looking for a plumber "let your fingers do the walking elsewhere".

Quote ??? You'll be waiting until the cows come home – Browns plumbing? What can you say about them? He came He saw the work scope and told me I will send you a quote. Two weeks later I'm still waiting so i called to follow the quote and the lady told me you will receive it by the end of the day. Four weeks later I'm still waiting. All talk no action if you didn't want to do the job just say it. Unreliable I won't recommend them to no one.
Excessive charge for little service – Recently, my Rheem Gas HWS pilot light went off during one afternoon of strong wind and we didn't have hot water overnight. I tried igniting the pilot light by following the instructions on the cover but could not get it started even after a few attempts. ( On hindsight, I should have looked under to see if the pilot light is on after I tried the… Read more
ignition, but I did not).
The next morning, I called Brown's Plumbing. The lady explained to me there is no call-out fee but minimum charge of $120 to cover first hour. When the gentleman arrived, I explained the above problem to him. He did the same thing as I have done and got it working in just one attempt. He asked for the $120 payment and I paid by credit card. I did not dispute or complain at the time as I had to rush to another appointment. All this took less than 5 minutes.
After I got home in the afternoon, I rang their office to query whether the $120 charge is reasonable just for igniting the pilot light. I said it is too excessive and maybe they should refund a partial amount back to me. I said I do not mind paying the full fee if the gentleman had spent some time to even check or service the ignition system while on the site. The lady said she will follow up and get back to me.
Today, I called the office again. No, I am not getting any partial refund and they are keeping my $120. I am still waiting for the invoice to be sent to me.
After this first experience with Brown's Plumbing, I will not use them or recommend them to anyone.
