Cabinets on Demand

Spacious cabinets – High quality cabinets, purchased and really love the design and made with high quality materials. Show details
Excellent quality kitchen, good process to design & choose – We ordered a kitchen for our granny flat 2 years ago from Cabinets on Demand. The design process was intensive & the company gave us plenty of support. We had a few minor issues putting the kitchen together - not because of how they were made, but for us working out what went where. Maybe a diagram of this would be helpful. The quality of the… Read more
cabinets was excellent & 2 years on with lots of living done, they still look like new. The price was less expensive than Bunnings & far better quality that has lasted. Bunnings kitchens I've seen wear very rapidly.
I got what I needed at a low cost – My particular requirements were a bit complex to specify so I spent some time practising on the web site. After placing my order and receiving feedback I modified the specs quite easily and found a much lower cost solution (Gloss Laminate) for my initial needs. All was delivered on time and fitted perfectly, and installation was easy due to the fully labeled components. Show details
Do not use this company! – Ordered what I thought were 4 separate cabinets and 2 top shelves to bridge the units for our existing built in wardrobes and got delivered materials to make one built in unit with joined cabinets at each end. Called to talk to someone about what I thought was a production error, and was told to send an email to the production manager as there was… Read more
no one who would talk to me about my issue. So much for their order validation process, where I had specifically stated that the top shelves were to be used to bridge the two cabinets for each wardrobe to provide an open storage space in between.
Multiple email only resulted in negative responses back stating I didn't place the order correctly so bad luck. I asked for someone to call to discuss but no call, only another email telling me to order additional parts from them to make the cabinets fit for (my) purpose. Their website is clunky and only suitable to use if you understand the computer process that informs the end product. Most unhelpful company I've ever dealt with. We have just completed renovations on two houses using other flat pack systems (love IKEA products, quality and service!), but will never use these unprofessional dudes again. For what it's worth, I contacted Yarra Valley Cabinets, who supplied the materials for Cabinets Online, and they were more than happy to help me resolve my problem for less that Cabinets Online quoted.
Know what you are doing – Some interesting comments here. I've used this company 3 times now, kitchen replacement and wardrobe insert in 2013 and butlers pantry fitout of a new house in 2016. My experience has been mixed and covers much of the good and bad reviews here. Rather than going into detail, I think it is worth noting how this company operates so people can… Read more
understand and make their own choice as it is a rather unique business model. It is run as a side business to Aneka kitchens in Canberra, though they are meant to have some link/deal to other smaller sized cabinet makers around the country. But being in Canberra I've only dealt with their Mitchell factory.
Aneka is their main business and cabinets on demand seems to be low margin business where they up front tell you that what support they give in terms of design assistance, which is essentially nothing, unless you want to pay more for their help.
There are basically 2 guys that run it, [name removed] who is the boss and another fella who is the factory floor manager, and it is really designed for other joiners/handy men business who cannot afford their own CNC machine to get cabinets made mm perfect. They do also extend the service to confident DIYers.
What they make is mm perfect, as everything is designed to be cut and drilled by a CNC machine. I note comments about parts not fitting, well in my experience, other than obvious mistakes (usually caused by you asking for something out of the ordinary that they miss program, this is what happened to me) that main reason for issues is the skill of the constructor, as the assembly also has to be mm perfect.
My first job I too had issues with drawer fit, and living in Canberra I took one into Aneka/Cabinets on demand and they showed me the error of my ways, basically my drawer box construction was not 100% sqaure, it was out on one corner by about 1.5mm which was enough to make adjusting the front panels a little more tricky than normal. But they showed me how to compensate by using the adjustment options on the hardware they provide.
My first few cabinet boxes also had issues, but once I got the hang of how everything works my cabinets got better and squarer, so was easily able to fix my first few. As I said you only need to be out by a few mm and things like doors won't fit properly or you will have trouble adjusting them.
The hinge and bracket hardware they use is Hettich which is a top brand, so was surprised to see comments about the quality in these reviews.
Oh the bad experience I had with them really annoyed me, as the fault was clearly theirs and like some other reviewers they gave me the run around for weeks, which really put my job behind. What happened is I asked for a door to be cut shorter than normal. During construction one of the doors got damaged and they remade it, but remade it to the standard size rather than my shorter side. And when they 'fixed' the issue they made another mistake that couldn't be undone, as they cut it short the wrong end. I had asked for a replacement door, but they told me to compensate by adjusting hinges in the cabinets instead. I did it only because I wanted the job done so I could rent the house I was building out.
Would I use them again, yes only because there really isn't much choice that do EXACTLY what cabinets on demand do, which is customs sized, custom cabinets at a reasonable price. Plus I would only recommend them to people who know what they are doing.
Quality and Price that can't be beaten – I have purchased cabinets from Cabinets On Demand for the past 3 Years now. I like ordering on line from them because its easy, you can purchase any shape or size cabinet you like (unlike other company’s) and you get an instant price. Being a tradesman from Melbourne and having dealt with other local cabinet makers I have found that non of them… Read more
can match Cabinets On Demand for quality or price. Every order I have ever made has arrived from Interstate with all the parts and exactly to my specifications.
My only criticism of the company would be that they are slow to complete the jobs and don’t always reply to emails. If they quote you 2-3 weeks expect to get the cabinets in 4-6 weeks.
Good quality cupboards for my walkin robe – Even though their website is not quite user friendly, I did manage to order L-shaped cupboards for my 1.5m square walk in robe. The key is thinking and planning very carefully about the design, like 30cm for each pile of clothes, not too deep (max 45cm) or too tall shelves either (I ordered extra two shelves and it works great). I left a space at… Read more
the top for baskets for out of season items. Measure both top, middle and bottom of the space as walls aren't always plum. I'm very happy with my design and the millimeter perfect cupboard. I'd first gotten a quote with an average design in my colour choice (not so important for me as good design) for around $2200. This prompted my to look online and I'm glad I invested the time to figure it out. I rang them (Mitchell in Canberra, ACT) a few times and they were very helpful. Like flatpack it was quick to put together. Do triple check measurements and your design for the best results. Plan for which baskets go where etc.
Absolutely crap quality and parts don't line up – I ordered my cabinet online - clicking "all components" in laminate. Assuming the whole product would be. No it's not it's just the sides and fronts. The rest is crap partial board that falls apart (doesn't grip screws). - After we got a professional cabinet maker to put the flat pack together, the fronts of the drawers wouldn't line up and… Read more
were not flush. So we took it apart and tried it again- this is when we had a lot of problems with the crap particle board.
- the front of the drawers and doors do not line up and are not flush at all.
So I called the manager demanding a refund or Soneone in to help us as it just wasn't working. The manager began to tell me how the product is perfect so it can't be their fault and then began to patronise me about how we put it together. And telling me it isn't thy hard.
Your better off getting the same quality flat pack from Bunnings. Don't even bother.
Unresolved Issues After 10 Months Worth Of Emails!! – Wish I had seen these other bad reviews before I had used this company. A very simple order (2 x robe inserts) has turned into months of terrible customer service. I had 2 x shelves missing from my order (acknowledged at pick up so there is no question that they are missing) and they will not follow up and get them to me. Had no response to… Read more
several emails and then when I called and asked to speak with someone of higher authority I was told that the person who is not responding/following up is the owner!!
Quality of the product is not that great either.
Would NOT recommend.
Very Impressed – Brilliant and just what I needed. I was looking for only 5 cabinets but all custom sizes with a L shaped bench top. The web site was easy to use and the production team even checked my sketch against the order and helped me to make small changes. I called around all the local kitchen places and no one wanted to look at a $1800 customised order… Read more
and if they did they were talking months for delivery.
I placed the order on line after making many changes, received the confirmation email the same day and placed the deposit. The production team advised me it would take 2.5 weeks but it was ready in two weeks. Paid the final balance and the goods were shipped the same day and I collected from the transport depot the next day (in Sydney).
I must say I was getting hesitant after reading the other reviews and I am not sure why others have had so much trouble as my project worked perfectly and to top it off my wife is now very happy with the cabinets in the new studio.
I am not experienced with cabinetry and basically just a home handyman but the system is very intuitive and easy to assemble. They did send basic instructions but a hammer and power screw driver will do the job. It would have been even easier if I had knowledge of the system and what screws to use where but it was easy to work out and all the cabinets finished to the exact sizes I requested.
The assembly system is brilliant with adjustable legs and brackets and clips that I have never seen before that worked a treat. Everything pre-drilled and screws together square first time. Now that I know how the system goes together I would have no hesitation committing to a full sized kitchen assembly. Even the 32mm bench tops fitted perfectly in a L shape with a joint that looks like a professional did it.
When I collected the goods they were packaged exceptional for transport and there was no damage on any parts at all. All fixtures where counted into separated bags and labelled. Each of the cabinet parts were labelled with the cabinet number and the part description and once you work out this system of labelling it all fits together very easily. My project was not an actual kitchen so every cabinet was out of standard sizes and this was no problem for the ordering system.
I would have no hesitation recommending this system to anyone that has had even the most basic experience with flat packs. The production team are very helpful and respond to email questions efficiently. I will use this system again and I am now even thinking up jobs that I would never have considered before as it was that easy.
do not recommend – Placed and order with cabinets on demand and before I confirmed the order I let them know that I absolutely needed them for a cafe opening in 2 weeks. I made no demands, just let them know my timeline and when they assured me this was no problem I made my deposit. As soon as I made the deposit I got an email saying that they would take 2-3… Read more
weeks + shipping. I immediately replied and said that I would just cancel the order and to please return deposit. Well, it seems they went on holiday and didn't get my email for a couple days so the "production team" had already started. The owner? called and proceeded to yell at me and let me know that he deserved a holiday and that I wasted his time and that there was no way I was getting my deposit back. He went on for at least 15 mins berating me, he was aggresive and irrational and completely unwilling to listen to common sense and reason. Worst service I've had ever, never got my deposit back $350.
I wish that I had checked the other reviews first! – "cabinets-online.com.au" or "www.cabinetsondemand.com.au" is the perfect example of how not to work with customers if you expect repeat orders. Up-front they were helpful, their designer came back with corrections and updates to help us fit what we wanted into their ordering system for the minimum cost. Based on this I placed my order and paid my… Read more
deposit with an expected production time of around 2 weeks.
As this time arrived I contacted service to get an updated ETA only to get told that they were pushing my order down the queue because of some larger commercial order. A week later I called again, was promised an investigation, no call back. Called again 3 days later, another callback promised, once again, no callback but I did get an email stating that they had delayed my order by another 2 weeks. As I write this I am still waiting for production.
Fortunately, this order was only for a single set of wardrobe linings in preparation for a far larger order to essentially replace all the cabinetry in the house, I will definitely not be going back though and suggest everyone else avoid them as well.
go elsewhere – I had some questions about ordering a benchtop from cabinets on demand and called them. I was shocked by the aggressively unhelpful and negative attitude of the 'production' staff member. I ended the call in tears. Needless to say I won't be placing an order.

Never Again – Ordered kitchen, family room, laundry and robe inserts. Their largest order to date we were told. After full payment and flat pack received we informed them that there were two glass doors and some unit hinges missing and one unit had been made too large. We had to involve Dept of fair Trading as we were left in no doubt that our problems were a… Read more
"low priority" and there were more pressing problems. Eventually the glass doors and hinges arrived. I checked with the actual manufacturer and the door request was received a month after we complained and the same day Fair Trading became involved. We have been asked by several friends who were thinking of replacement kitchens if we would recommend Cabinets on Demand.
The answer is definitely NO because of the very poor attitude on after sales service. the low cost is outweighed by the poor follow up service lack of good service
Cabinets on Demand - Save your Money, go elsewhere! – I ordered flat pack kitchen cabinets from "cabinets on demand" - terrible!!! (appears to be same people as "cabinets-online.com.au"). Primary reasons for choosing them were (1) the offering of 18mm MDF facings for painting, which was specifically touted on the website as a point of difference, and was specifically what I wanted (2) the offering of… Read more
local Melbourne based-suppliers, which gave me confidence any errors could be recitified, even though this company was based in ACT.
The order arrived in 16mm MDF, not what I wanted or paid for. I would have expected the order to be immediately fixed, however on contacting them was told they had more important things and would deal with it in a couple of weeks. After that time, I was repeatedly chalenged about why I wanted 18mm, told more or less told me to put up with it, and they will not fill the order as per original specification.
I asked why the order had been sent all the way from Canberra and not from Melbourne from where it could be easily remedied, and was told "thats the way it goes".
Defintely recommend you to find another supplier! They were polite and efficient at the beginning, and appeard to offer a range of made to measure cabinets. Product was not supplied to specification, which is the whole point of pordering from a mob like this.
