The worst spray tan for your timber furniture – The oil was supposed to have a natural finish but turned the once beautiful gum furniture orange instead requiring it to be sanded back to bare timber and there's no assistance from cabots Show details
How to destroy your timber in 1 easy step – Great way to destroy any beautiful timber furniture you have. Turns timber bright orange. Instead of highlighting the natural beauty and grain of your timber, it looks like you've dipped it in Fanta. Read the reviews and take notice. DO NOT BUY!!!!! ..... And yes cabots, I did try on inconspicuous area underneath table first. It appears because… Read more
the old oil used underneath had not deteriorated the test simply darkened what was there. On top had been cleaned and sanded. I tried with multiple coats to darken the oil but its now just a darker orange
Cabots technical hotline advise- either use paint stripper or sand furniture completely and oil again using different product.
So because I chose a Cabot's product I now must put in twice as much work and twice as much money.
To all consumers.. Do not....I repeat... DO NOT buy this oil!!!! Stay away from Cabot's

Why don't you state the pigmentation on the label!? – I purchased this product after being misled by the label, believing that I will get a natural look. Now, my $1000 new acacia table that was unique and classy is an orange, common-looking table, that I hate. Cabot, you need to change the labelling to make customers aware of this issue! Show details

Orange!!! – I totally agree with the other reviews, I am so disappointed that my garden furniture is now orange, thank you very much Cabot's. Did not go on evenly so more orange in parts. It says on label that it lasts longer than traditional garden furniture oils, I want it off now! Why on earth would they think orange is a great colour for Natural garden furniture oil. Cabot's any suggestions for how to get it off, apart from sanding? Show details

Poor Quality- Turned furniture Orange – After painstaking sanding and preparing the outdoor table and bench chairs I applied New Natural oil thinking it would have a natural look but has turned the furniture Orange. Not a light pigment but and vey solid dark orange after just two coats as per introductions on can. Very disappointed and upset considering the name of the product. The UV… Read more
protection argument doesn’t cut it when the colour clearly changes the product look dramatically. Very disappointing in the product. Would Not recommend it at all.

Useful product - less of an oil, more of a wood protective coating – Cabots Garden Furniture Oil is a nice product for use on outdoor wooden seating or on wooden furniture exposed to UV rays. Doesn't leave an oily residue when dry. I used two coats and I'm confident it will seal it from the elements, sun, wind and rain for at least 12-24 months. I agree with others it looks a touch on the orange side when wet,… Read more · 1
but is more like walnut or rose wood when dry. Would it look good on say park bench type seating or an outdoor storage box? Yes probably, if that's the finish your'e looking for.
Update: – There's no option for me to directly respond to the Cabots rep. so I'm leaving a second review. I spent 3 hours sanding off this disgusting product. I though readers might want to see what a nasty result you'll get with this product. I love how the Cabots rep took pains to explain why their product stains wood so badly and somehow believes that… Read more
because this info in barried online in their website that the product is not falsely labeled and thus grossly misleading. Way to avoid responsibility and dodge the facts. Won't be buying or recommending any Cabots products in the future!
Gross orange colour – Glad I used this product on a test area before using it on my project. Turned my light toned hardwood yellow orange. Nothing like my intention when buying their ‘New natural’ clear oil. Nothing clear about it. Has a very very distinct orange colour. Annoyed I spent money on it as I’ll never have a use for turning wood this colour. I feel like this product is misleading in its marketing. Show details

Oils ain't oils – This popular product is really more like an acryllic varnish. It coats the timber rather than "oils" it. The brochure states "Cabot's Garden Furniture Oil Water Based is a highly durable, low odour exterior oil. It is designed to provide exceptional durability to garden furniture, BBQ trolleys and benches and lasts longer than traditional… Read more
garden furniture oils. Garden Furniture Oil Water Based's advanced dual technology allows natural oils
to penetrate and nourish the timber, then creates a durable acrylic barrier for a beautiful natural finish."
The amount of penetrating oil is not stated but it appears to be a very small proportion of the product such that calling it "oil" is somewhat euphemistic.
Being a coating, it lasts quite well, but once deterioration occurs it needs to be sanded off before recoat, unlike true oils which need minimal recoat preparation but perhaps more often.
