Cabot's Timbercolour Deck & Exterior Paint

EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED – I painted the entire deck (front, back and sides). - 2 coats over 2 days - only a week ago. Today I noticed a little bit of water sitting on the back deck so I mopped it. I noticed a little white spot - could it be bird droppings? NO - the paint had scraped off when I ran over it with a mop. A few feet away another white spot. Bird… Read more
droppings? No - paint had scraped off. I examined random spots and ran over it lightly with a fingernail. Surely after a week it should have cured? NOPE. The fact that I pained it dark blue over white (which was lightly sanded and pressure washed prior to application) just makes it even worse. Im so angry! All that expense and effort for such a disappointing product. I won't be using it again and I will warn everyone else to avoid like the plague.
Great Paint – Had always used Instagrain stain on our deck that traps QLD sun and heat. Tired of applying every 2nd year I used Cabots Deck Paint (Chocolate Colour) and it looks like new. Covered in all the cracks from when I hit with powerful gurney years ago and has brought the old deck back to life. Only did the other day so see how it goes. At the moment I love this product. Absolutely Woeful – 70sqm of Timber Deck, previously painted with Taubmans Sun Proof Low Sheen, 5 years ago, was time for a recoat. Went to get same paint again, was told, NO, you can't use that, Cabot's Deck Paint is specifically designed for timber decks and far superior. Have to paint deck in two halves due to access, 1st half was done with two coats of Taubmans… Read more
(I then ran out and was going to buy same again). Came home with Cabot's, so did a 3rd over Taubmans so final coat would be consistent across entire Deck. 1st half of Deck once final coat (Cabot's) applied, stays tacky for 2 plus weeks, no rain, medium humidity, covered by Patio roof, SE Qld. Start 2nd half of Deck, 3 coats, one day between each coat, 3 days in total. 3 weeks later, 2nd half still very tacky, 1st half nearing fully cured, but can't put anything on it, as it sticks to paint, even door mat. So in total, nearing 6 weeks, Deck is still not usable, and foot/shoe prints everywhere and 2 nd half is STILL STICKY. After Xmas I'll redo, but NOT WITH CABOT'S.....absolutely appalling, and I haven't even mentioned the wasted money, which will be well over $400 by time I throw out Cabot's and buy replacement paint. Cabot's, clearly with the number of complaints and poor reviews, there is an issue, you need to address and do better.
Update, advised someone from Cabot's may contact me within 14 days, hasn't happened unsurprisingly, but what is surprising that the Review was flagged as being "In Mediation". Mediation indicates communication between two parties to resolve a matter.....clearly deceptive when no contact has been made.

Won’t ever use Cabot’s again – Store person in bunnings insisted this was the best paint to use on a new deck. Insisted. Even though we’d previously used a dulux outdoor paint with no issues on previous decking. Oh Cabot’s is the best for no wear from foot traffic, she said. Has she ever used it? New timber waited a few weeks, painted it, paint is a bit thin, but is ok to use.… Read more
Dried well. Nothing has flaked off, nothing has scratched from the dog, all good. What’s bad is the dirt! I’ve never seen dirt stain a paint so bad. This is from our shoes, dogs feet etc. the colour we’ve used is basalt. A medium grey. Dirt stains are visible all over the deck surface, as are watermarks. Every time it rains,it leaves water marks. I will be going back to bunnings and getting some dulux outdoor paint and painting over this rubbish. Do not use this stuff!

Epic fail for this product – To qualify my comments - I’m no stranger to home improvement products that aren’t up to standard having spent 38 years in the building industry, as a carpenter, builder and building inspector. In fact, I had a very poor experience with Cabot’s Clearcoat some 30 years ago, having used it for a final finish on Western Red Cedar cladding. Our… Read more
existing timber deck needed a change of colour, and after being advised at a local Bunnings store that I should use a special decking paint, Cabot’s Decking & Exterior Paint. In short, we prepped the existing deck surface, (and the existing paint coating was in excellent condition ) in order to receive 2 Coats of new paint. Applied during warm conditions, 25-28 degrees under cover, we left the new coatings to dry for 48 hours plus…before foot traffic, and dog traffic… The images you see are from the deck surface AFTER 4 weeks… the PREVIOUS deck surface had NIL scratch marks from the dogs claws, where she’s been sleeping, lounging for the last 10 months. That original coating is TAUBMANS SUNPROOF. Very unimpressed…the Cabots film appears weak and … soft. I’m not satisfied … SUBSEQUENT…to Cabots reply on this thread I have spoken to one of their representatives and received some standard response/course of action like, “you’ll have to strip all of it back” AS IF… Check out how the coating just peels off…

Used it to paint the exterior balcony roof, so far so good – After repairing some fine cracks on the balcony roof, and facade, I need to paint part of it to cover the grayish repairing filler. I don't want to paint the whole surface, which at least requires a 4L can of exterior paint. After shopping around in the local hardware store, I found this 500ml decking paint can also be used on masonry surfaces… Read more · 1
too, so I give it a try.
After applying two coats, it completely covered the surface stains and looks appealing. It dried fast within one day before the rain comes. So far I love it, given the price and the outcome, it's value for money.
Definitely will recommend to friends patching & repainting concrete exterior walls. It'll be perfect if it's available in a one-liter can.
Looks good – I painted my new treated pine deck with Cabots Timbercolour Deck and Exterior Paint, it was a little bit sticky for a couple of days, which I expected, but now it is good and it looks great. Very happy. Show details · 1
Worst paint ever – Finished last coat 4 days ago and deck still feels sticky and scratches really easy, allowed more time between coats than recommended, I don’t recommend at all, applied 3 coats. Show details

Paint comes off even after three weeks edited to review outcome – Coated the deck 3 weeks ago no furniture for 2 weeks. The 5 kilo dog has scratched the paint just by playing on it. The 40 year old deck was previously painted and Bunnings recommended this product to me. It is terrible over an existing painted surface and I wish I had stuck to what I was going to buy before I was talked out of it by the… Read more
Bunnings guy.
This was a refresh of the deck to get rid of mission brown before we replace in a couple of years. Very very disappointed with this product,
So after I went around touched up scratches continuously to no avail scratches kept coming, even someone sitting down at the table with sandshoes managed to lift the paint, just by moving feet around. Four months later on 21 Nov I bit the bullet, I water blasted the deck clean of cabots paint and started again fresh with Dulux paint which can be used on decks. Furniture off for two weeks, been 5 weeks now and DULUX has held up and wins hands down.

It does the job, likely to long laster than decking oil – I have a treated pine deck over which I applied Cabot's Aquadeck decking oil. Only in hindsight did I realise that this water based decking oil is less suitable for lightly pigmented timber such as treated pine, and the result was a stark "orange" coloured stained deck. I gradually got used to the colour, but after a year I decided to paint over… Read more
it using an outdoor paint. I used Cabot's timbercolour deck and exterior paint, and painted the deck "mission brown". Colourwise, it looks much more acceptable, even though you can no longer see the timber grooves. At the moment, i am happy with the result.
