Cadbury Old Gold Roast Almond

Almonds: Missing In Action – I have a pretty good imagination...and eating Cadbury's Old Gold Almonds in Dark Chocolate, I had to use my imagination...to imagine how the choc balls would taste if they actually had almonds in them! Cadbury has always had a ' good name', however this is product is surely a breach of consumer law, as it fails to deliver some of the advertised… Read more
content, namely the almonds. Some balls had fragments of almonds in them and others none at all. Was my purchase just a one-off production-line blunder, or has anyone else had this disappointing experience?
Took back to the store - as the product recipe has potentially been silently changed !!! – I recently went to our local Woolworth and got 6 packs of my "favourite" choc as it was on a 1/2 price sale that week. At some point I started to realise that this is not the chocolate I used to like so much. The rich flavour coming from a combination of dark chocolate and a generous amount of almonds was gone ! Now it is just an overly sweet and… Read more
disgusting sugar laden manure . The amount of almonds was probably halved (at least) and the rich dark chocolate flavour disappeared all at once. I started to feel that something was wrong when opened my first package and later my curiosity kicked in and I googled and came to this site to confirm through other consumer's reviews. I am not familiar with what the consumers law has to say about such methods, however, I believe Cadbury was misleading and dishonest about their product and will be returning what I've got left to the Woollies ASAP asking for a refund. TBH it makes me feel like I don't want to touch any Cadbury product again as I feel cheated !!!
Just for the sake of transparency, I have also contacted Cadbury customer support. Their response was that the recipe has not changed and they will address this issue with their quality control. It would be nice if someone who still have some old stash sent to a lab to compare it with some of the current batches.
So I wasn't imagining it – Old Gold Scorched Almond bought April 2020 is a pale shadow of its former self. The chocolate is hardly recognisable as chocolate: no rich satisfying taste, and the almonds are negligible. Dark chocolate for a start is not meant to be sweet, and I do like to feel there are real nuts in there, not sweepings from the factory floor. Cadbury have… Read more
succeeded in totally emasculating what used to be a favourite of mine. I will not be buying it again, and, really, that would go for the rest of the Cadbury range. Very disappointing.
Where are the roast almonds? – I used to like this chocolate. Now it is just too sweet for a dark chocolate and where are the almonds? Roasted almonds are so minimal and just available on some squares of the chocolate block. Disappointing! Show details
Love this dark chocolate – This chocolate i absolute love. I am not a fan of nuts in my chocolate but this is one of the best. Only down side that considering it is DARK it has a very very sweet taste and not a bitter dark chocolate taste. Either though it is still delicious.
Awful - Too sweet, Ruined! – They must have changed the recipe. This is now horrible. The chocolate is overly sweet with no rich, dark cocoa taste and there is no roasted taste to the almonds either. Just a sugary taste which is completely unsatisfying, nothing like good quality chocolate should be. Even Aldi's $2 block is better than this.
The recipe of Cadbury Old Gold Roast Almond has changed: now "tasteless lard" is best description – I have eaten this chocolate for many years, and until now have loved every square. Have had one row of fours squares after evening meal for years. We bought 6 bars on special from Woolworths here in Nowra and, honestly, were shocked at eating the latest bar. No roasted almond flavour; the chocolate had no cocoa flavour, so was experienced as… Read more
lard—do I need to go on?
I will try one square from each of the remaining blocks, and throw out if all are the same.
I do not know the reason for the change, but if anyone from Cadbury's is reading, get back to the recipe of early 2017. The new recipe is 100% fail.
My favourite dark chocolate – I'm not the biggest dark chocolate fan as I find most brands are too bitter for me. Old Gold has an amazing taste, isn't too expensive and available at Coles, Woolworths etc. Roast Almond is my favourite in the Old Gold range but the plain dark chocolate is just as good. Worth trying. :)
OK – I have had much better dark chocolate (with or without almonds), so I wouldnt buy this one again. It was good to try, but the texture and taste wasnt so great. As mentioned, its really hard to break, probably because its a thicker bar, so makes it difficult to enjoy and eat. Can be found on sale, but its not to my taste. I bought these beause I… Read more
wanted dark chocolate along with the crunch of roasted almonds and they were on special too. The block is a bit hard to break off to eat. The chocolate is pretty solid and doesnt easily melt in the mouth, not sure why.
