The Cannon Fitzroy gas log heater has been performing reasonably well, however my issue is more with the Cannon company. Recently I tried to purchase a Cannon Remote Thermostat Kit as it was advertised on their web site for $339, but upon trying to order it I was advised by Cannon that "We unfortunately can’t get the remotes anymore. manufacturer of them has ceased production". When one purchases a quality heater, they expect good backup service and spare parts and accessories to go with it. From what I understand, Cannon has abandoned its customers by not being able to supply a vital accessory for one of its products, a remote thermostat. Surely Cannon can do better by providing an alternative product that still does the same job even if the original manufacturer has ceased production? Be wary about purchasing a heater from this company if it can't guarantee the supply of a remote thermostat now and into the future.

Great heater! – We have had our Cannon Fitzroy power flue for 14 years. It has outperformed our larger Heat n Glo gas log heater and warmed the lower level of our home so we are toasty warm. It’s aesthetically beautiful and often commented on by our friends. We had issues with the ignition in the last few months. Thankfully, we were put in contact with Lou… Read more

How do you know it’s winter with a Cannon Fitzroy heater? – Q) How do you know it is the start of winter if you have a Cannon Fitzroy heater? A) It won’t light. I had a Cannon Fitzroy heater for 15 years and it was fantastic. It was the model without the electronic ignition and so forth. When it came time to replace it, we opted for the Cannon Fitzroy again. We purchased the new model in December 2018 and… Read more

had installed by an authorized installer. The retailer I purchased it from was great, I just wished I had listened to his advice. Went to a few dealers to get quotes, that should have rung alarm bells as every retailer asked “are you sure you really want a Cannon, you should consider the Rinnai Sapphire” nope we wanted the Cannon. Worked well for the first winter 2019. 2020 would not ignite. Warranty call out. Dealing with Cannon was difficult to say the least. It was about 2 weeks before it was acknowledged it was under warranty and they would send someone out. The repair technician was very evasive as to what the problem was. I will also like to point out that the heater was serviced at this point after one winter. This week, cold snap in Melbourne and you guessed it, won’t ignite, multiple beeps, no heat, no flame, just a cold cold house. I guess I will waste another day of annual leave to get the heater repaired. If you are in the market for a gas log fire, buy a Rinnai. Am considering contacting consumer affairs as this heater is a lemon. I just want it removed and a full refund. I have done all the tricks, unplugging resting re-attempting to ignite, all to no avail. You should not have to go through all this angst every flipping winter.

Reasonably happy with our heater – We have owned our Cannon Fitzroy for 7 years and after reading the problems with the heater I have to say that has not been our experience. Perfect Gas Heater – We’ve had this heater for 4 years now and never had any problems. Perfect heat, starts up perfectly. Looks stunning in our lounge room and the heat radiates to other areas of the house. We use the heater all winter and have the remote thermostat kit. Definitely worth getting this remote. So easy to use.

The Canon got its first service this year. We really should’ve done it a couple of years ago but never got around to it. The service was just for a clean and check carbon monoxide levels etc. It was all good, but a lot of dust had accumulated in the heater which could potentially be damaging over future years. So best advice is regular heater services.

Sorry to hear all the negative reviews but we’ve been lucky and had nothing but positive. Would absolutely recommend this heater. ===================================================================== July 2020 Update on this heater - 6 yrs we've had it now and last year September 2019 we had to get electronic ignition control module replaced and the service, all up it cost us $762.50 This year, heater still working fine however will beep 4 times and shut down every now and then. Any ideas what this could be as I cant seem to find the trouble shoot code for 4 beeps.

Update on original review – I have been meaning to do an update to my previous review for some time. July 6th 2018 Update: Latest review from previous.

The heater has been used regularly since May and has worked perfectly. I also had the walls and under floor insulated and now find I can leave the heater on low most of the time. I have not had a gas bill for this period so it will be interesting to see if consumption has reduced. IH

Would never recommend this product or this company – We have had this heater for 7 years. We installed in brand new, and have had it serviced every year (more than the recommended every 2 years). In that time we have had to replace pressure switches (which are supposed to last 10 years), ignition and had numerous other issues where it won't light and switches off randomly. authorised service company Heat & Cool out every time. 12 months ago our heating wasn't lighting (again). We called them, they came and serviced the unit, replaced ignition and left. Worked for 2 weeks, then stopped lighting again. Called them again, diagnosed pressure switches needed replacing over the phone, said they'd take 6 weeks to order the parts. When the finally came to replace them (end of winter) they didn't even put the logs back in correctly. Now less than 12 months after replacing both of those items, surprise surprise the heater is not lighting again. No other company can come and look at it, yet i have no faith in H&C at all anymore. It's a giant waste of space, which is a shame but when it works its fabulous. Just doesn't work enough.

Worst appliance I have ever owned – This heater was a fixture in our 18 month old house when we purchased. Sadly it has been nearly useless. back on which has worked occasionally but often not. Had the heater serviced by a rep last year who spent an hour dismantling and reassembling with a vaccuuming of the internal area. Cost $450 including an $80 dollar charge for being 'out of area'. I live near Newcastle so why is service not available 'in area' as Newcastle is NSW's second biggest city. Now, I find the fan in my heater is faulty. Even when I can get the heater started the noise from the fan is so loud I have to turn the heater off again. To add insult to injury I am now told a replacement fan will again cost over $400. I have pretty much given up now and am relying on my air conditioner for heating. In the meantime I am hoping to find another brand heater to replace the Cannon and fill the space in my wall. I find it almost incomprehensible that any product can continue to be marketed with so many obvious flaws. Even though I didn't directly purchase this heater I am aware that it is an expensive appliance and one should expect a far greater level of reliability and a far more available service network when required. My advice to anyone newly building and looking to install a heater, don't buy a Cannon.

This heater is a complete shocker – The Cannon Fitzroy heater has been a complete money pit. I have had it for 7 years and have had continuous trouble with ignition and staying alight. Brand new Cannon Fitzroy heater broken twice in 8 months since purchase – Customer reference number C0164922 My cannon heater stopped working again on 11/05/2020. The heater was purchased 18/02/2019. Last year in mid-July it had also stopped working, after only working for 8 weeks. A technician came to fix it. Last Tuesday, on the 12th of May 2020, I rang to enquire about the heater as it has stopped working again.… Read more

The customer service representative could not find me on the database even though I registered last year. Luckily, I saved an email with my reference number. After I was “identified”, the customer service representative told me that I will have to pay for the service if my heater was not serviced last year. I tried to explain that the heater is just 1 year old, but she insisted that the heater has to be “serviced” every year or I will have to pay for the warranty service. I stated that I will pay but I need my heater fixed as it is still under warranty. The customer service representative then stated that she will inform the service team.

After 48 hours I still did not receive any phone call or email to confirm service or the warranty claim, so I rang again to enquire about service team attendance. This time the customer service representative was very short and rude with me and told me that she verbally confirmed with me that she will inform the service team. I asked for an approximate date or time when I can expect service. I received rude reply that the “service team has their business to run” and that I will receive a call from them when they find the time to do so.

After paying thousands of dollars for the Cannon heater I expected that the cannon heater would be reliable, but it is just the opposite. It has now been 7 days that my new cannon heater is not working, and no service was provided either. I am extremely disappointed with this customer service and the heater

Loud noise due to thermal movement – A good example of pour quality design and or manufacture. Heater produces thump sound when heating up and several very loud cracking noises when cooling down. Heats well, but the lack of care once you have it installed is non existent – Replaced a heater with the same brand and model Cannon Fitzroy. This heater seems to like HIGH and when you use the remote is is either blasting or completely off. Cannon were so uninterested in offering any sort of solution to the remote issue that I have simply put it away as a souvenir of uselessness. Rinnai use the same remote, but they have… Read more

many more features on it so you can actually control the heater properly. I would suggest Rinnai in the future. The heater has an extremely hot exterior and I have been assured that is normal. Other brands are no way near as hot from my experience when feeling others in friends homes. Cannon were not really to fazed about an overheating issue, after all it is installed against plaster and plaster is combustible, but hey lets worry about that if the house burns down. The person who came to check the heating issue looked at a cold heater, opening it up and left a wire hanging out the bottom which I discovered later. It took 2 weeks for Cannon to respond and by that time I had paid another company to correct the issue. Cannon tried to charge $200 for the call out to check the overheating concern too. I accept it runs hotter than most and may still be safe. I fixed the wire hanging out issue at my cost, its brand new by the way. I got no reply on the phone when I informed Justin I think of the remote issue. Now I am simply telling you all to stay away from Cannon no matter how much you are talked into it. They are less expensive than Rinnai for a reason. Do not buy this brand. They dont care and the attitude you get on the phone is disgusting. Buyer Beware. Its heats well though when used manually, don't buy for a small space like we did. it gets too hot and you end up turning it on and off all night. another reason not to buy it. Cannon do not contact me I am not interested. I just accept I will never support your brand. Suggest customer service training for your staff though.

Faulty ignition – I have a love-hate relationship with my Fitzroy Cannon gas log heater, which came with my house purchased over a year ago. The heater was a big selling point for me. multiple attempts at turning it off and on until it finally stays on. This is very frustrating and I just give up sometimes. But when it’s does stay on it is soooo amazing and then I love it to bits. It looks beautiful when it’s running and it heats the whole house in no time. If it started the first go, it really would be the perfect heater. I have put a request in on the website to get a service, but with all these bad reviews about the same problem and the poor servicing, I’m crossing my fingers that I don’t have a bad experience, too!

This is a very problematic arrangement, which appears to be that the letter did not really tell what Cannon really wants to do - fix the glass or "hazardous levels of carbon monoxide", or that its contracting company wants to make use of this opportunity. In either case, Cannon should act responsibly.

Support and repair of the Cannon Fitzroy unbelievably bad in ACT – Our Cannon Fitzroy Powerflue in-built gas heater was only installed in late 2012 and we have had the fan repaired twice already 20/7/17 and again in June this year. At the 1st visit we were advised the fan blades had been bent to fix the rattle while the most recent repair involved gluing of the fan in some manner to fix what was described as a… Read more

problematic design feature of the heater's fan. When the heater wouldn't ignite just 1 week after the most recent fan repair we rang Cannon to get the name of their preferred repairer only to find it was the company we were already dealing with.

When contacted this company had us wait 3 weeks for a service appointment (even though their website indicates they know how important heating is in Canberra) but we were then advised they didn't have the parts required in their service van or at their office so it had to order it from Cannon in SA. We have since had 2 more visits from this repairer and each time they tell us the part they have acquired from Cannon is not what is required to fix the heater and they go away to order another part - apparently having no parts stored anywhere in the ACT.

We are now onto our third recommended part with each part taking at least a week to come into stock. We have been waiting since last Friday week (6th July) for this 3rd recommended part and a call today has confirmed it is "still coming from Cannon" while our temperatures continue to regularly fall between a maximum of 12 degrees and minimum of -6 degrees. So we are still waiting after more than 6 weeks of mid-winter temperatures to get the Cannon Fitzroy heater fixed. Maybe the heater is a lemon but certainly those involved in its support and repair need to reacquaint themselves with the concept of customer service.

In response to this review Cannon contacted our repairer and checked the despatched item had been delivered to Canberra. It had ( on Friday 20 July) but our repairer said they couldn't install it until Monday 23 July. They did phone Monday 23rd........to advise they had received the wrong part from Cannon and would have to reorder to get the correct part. So more than 7 weeks on we are back to the very beginning - waiting for a part from Cannon. Our house was 11 degrees inside this morning!!

I have had this heater for about nine years. It cost me $4800. When it works it is great but it has been an expensive and problematic product. The fan has just broken for the second time costing over $550 to replace. It also MUST be serviced every year or it breaks down. The service costs about $150 -$200 each time. So I have spent at least $2000 on this heater since I bought it. Would not recommend it.
