Canon PowerShot G12

Great camera for talentless folk like me – I have no idea how to work a camera beyond an iPhone and this one makes it really easy. The automatic setting takes great pics so I might even crack on an start using the manual mode (been saying that for years but I promise I will do it at some point, I'm sure the results will be great). A good choice if you want something with more features than a regular point and shoot – Just bought a Canon G12 for my husband. I use an SLR but he isn't confident enough with all the manual settings to use it. I liked the G12 because it has fully automatic settings but allows you to play with and learn the manual settings if you'd like. I liked that the screen shows you the changes in settings (i.e. if you change the shutter… Read more
speed the image gets lighter and darker before you actually take the shot). Lightweight, lots of features that make it easily customisable, easy to use Canon menu Slow(ish) shooting when taking multiple shots
Excellent – Photo quality is amazing for a camera this size. More often than not, the ease of use and overall quality of shots beats my heavy chunky SLR. Its size makes it incredibly useful for travel and has proved to be very good for fashion/nature shoots on the move. If you can do without the optical zoom, and dont mind paying a little extra for canon,… Read more
then you won't regret it > Near SLR quality photos in a compact size.
> Incredibly easy to use with quick selectable settings
> the adjustable preview screen is really neat, perfect for those 'me' shots and shooting usually difficult angles
> great build quality
> amazing picture modes including colour segmentation and fish lens options
> Out of all my cameras, this has proven to be the most popular in terms of weight vs quality vs size > Price is premium
> a little on the heavy side
> optical zoom and Mega pixel capability is not as high as other cameras in this price range
Great "mini" SLR camera – Purchased the G12 about 12 months ago and it's still going strong. I was interested in getting an SLR camera but wasn't ready to upgrade to a bigger, bulkier camera as I was still learning how to use manual functions. I decided to get the G12 to "dip my toes" into it and am so pleased with it. Picture quality is quite amazing compared to my old… Read more
point and shoots. It has great features - both the automatic and preset shooting settings and also the manual ones that allow you to play around.
The size is great, not too bulky and can fit in my pocket quite easily and isn't heavy. Of course it is bigger than a point and shoot, but no where near as cumbersome as an SLR. It is a good size to travel with as it doesn't take much room but still offers great picture quality.
One of the great features is the swivel screen which is great when trying to take a picture from an angle.
I have used various Olympus and Sony cameras over the years, and find that Canon definitely are one of the best camera manufacturers on the market. Great "mini" SLR Expensive
Good – For those wanting a great quality compact camera with both fully automatic and program, aperture, shutter speed and manual controls, to me it is a camera that is hard to go past. I have left out a lot of the camera's features here only because there are just so many crammed into this very robust little camera. For those who want sometning more… Read more
technical, there a a number of reviews coming through now on this new Canon model. I've kept this review to my likes (and one little irk ) here. This is a great choice for those wanting high quality and very versitile compact camera. Having the capabilities of high definition video as well as top quality stillphotography, it is an ideal camera for everyday use, where your SLR Digital camera may be just too cumbersome.
There are many features including HDR, panorama, tracking, fish-eye and other shooting modes which give one a wide scope of alternative picture making tools.
The build quality is excellent and as well as in-built flash it comes with a hot shoe for mounting of an external flash...anything from the Canon 270Ex through to the 580EX Mark ll. The flip out viewfinder ia also excellent and there is the option of an optical viewfinder as well.
By shopping around one can pick up one of these great units for well (and I mean very well ) under the recommended retail, including postage and or delivery to your door. This is not a real lightweight, compact camera but that is of no concern to me. However maybe one should have a hands on feel of it if you are looking for something tht can easily fit into a pocket or such. To me personlly, it is of no concern, as I've been used to carrying round a Canon 5D for the past few years !
Just one little thing that irks me is the spring loaded door covering the connections for external video and downloading etc. It becomes a two handed operation as one must hold the door open while connecting the remote switch or video / download cables.
Excellent – It's expensive but it offers the features to make it worth the cost. Canon is a reputable camera company and their products aren't garbage. Definitely a good product here. This camera takes absolutely fabulous pictures. It has astounding capabilities. Learning how to utilize the camera's full potential can take a while. Also it's not something you… Read more
can put in your pocket and pull out and take a quick snap. If you want to do professional photography you might want to get another lens.
