Reliably dishonest reviews of energy businesses in Australia
I'm looking to leave the current electricity provider and go elsewhere when I happened upon the Canstar Blue site and thought it might help me decide.
Unfortunately for Canstar, I may have been born yesterday, but it was very early in the morning. And I live downwind with a keen sense of smell.
I came directly to productreview and did a search for every name of every energy business recommended by Canstar on their website (which anyone can do if they have a mind to).
Every single one of those businesses (but one) received a 3 or 4 star rev...iew by Canstar, while the collective voices of the let down and ripped off can clearly and resoundingly be heard in the negative at Product Review. Which raises the question; how are apparently dishonest sites like Canstar - seemingly designed to mislead the public for what appears to be their own financial gain - even permitted to operate? My opinion only: Something stinks to high heaven in Australia when it comes to the business of energy.
What a joke
Canstar would have to be the biggest liers out there when giving their so called awards to businesses that don't deserve it, there are two that should be removed with their lies on how good there company is, but the main one is Budget Direct as they are the biggest liers out there and the most expensive for motor vehicle insurance, but how else are they going to pay for their bull**** ads, anyway, i tried to insure my 2007 VE Calais with them only to be rejected because my car was over 10 years old but when you fill out the application form and...click on the make and model it shows vehicle from 1979 in the list of models for the make of your vehicle, so to be rejected was and is a joke and when i questioned them about it all she could say was it was over 10 years old, my son then purchased a new car after getting a payout on his wrecked 2009 FG XR6 rang them to get his new car insured which is another FG XR6 but a 2012 model and because he was under 25 wouldn't give him insurance (he was 24 at the time of application in 2018) as in their book the XR model Falcons are a High Powered Motor Vehicle and cannot be owned by persons under 25 who want to get insurance from them, when he told me this i then rang them and made out i had just turned 25 and presto i was covered and then when i told them what i was doing they told me i was committing an offence by lying about my age and could start legal procedures against me which then explained to them this was only a quote and funds had not changed hands and i would win especially when i had plenty against the company on their lies, they then offered me free Comprehensive Coverage for 12mths on my son's car which then Red Flags were waving frantically in front of my eyes which that definitely tells me they were trying to butter me up to cover up whatever they thought i had on the company in case legal action was taken against me and i wouldn't say anything but my son recorded the whole call so he could post it on youtube which i told him not to as that could lead to them taking hime to court, so that's my story for the biggest liers out there that you gave top recommendations too, Budget Direct are a joke and there should be s governing body looking into what antics they do to con people to join with them. The other is Youi which is also given the canstar award, they don't take no for an answer and kept harasding me for almost 3 weeks about getting insurance even though i told them i wasn't interested because they were 3 time more a month than my current insurer but that didn't stop them from calling me everyday for almost 3 weeks and if i hadn't of told the guy who was harassing me with taking it to Consumer Affairs about the way they conduct their ways of conning people the calls stopped.
Canstar do receive money when consumers click on links from their sites. Despite attempts to make it sound like they don't without actually saying they don't. In my book this is a huge conflict of interest and makes them too biased to be a trustworthy source for reviews. See screenshot from choice article attached.
Savings account advise
Used Canstar to source the best Bank to use for a high interest savings account, heard the name a lot, saw it on the news, assumed it would be an objective source of information. Highly disappointed, after several hours of research on two banks that you have awarded and recommend as your top choices for savings accounts, I find that the general population deem these banks to be something out of their nightmares! Both banks had an ungodly amount of reviews for extremely poor customer service, poor technology and an unwillingness to rectify issue...s brought to their attention for years. I almost trusted Canstars advice and opened an account online, got the gut feeling it was a little too good to be true, thank god I second guessed that decision! Saved myself a whole lot of trouble. Want everyone to know that your service is sham and should not remotely be considered good advice!
canstar and RAC cannot be trusted
"While we do allow some advertising on our website, this doesn’t impact our Star Ratings and Awards" (really?). Our commercial relationships don’t influence the position of a product or provider in our comparison tables, or its performance in any research comparison or the Star Ratings process.
"Our research team is separate from our commercial functions"
That statement is so much nonsense for any company
Like a newspaper saying their editorials are independent from advertising: have you ever seen an ad for Komatsu in the West Australian? Nev...
I reviewed various travel insurance options via Canstar. I purchased a product recommended by Canstar however it was $13.69 (10%) dearer going via their link as opposed to going directly to the insurance provider.
Canstar states their service is free and that they derive some of their income as commissions from the providers which I fully understand. But in my case I was charged for the service which I request be refunded by Canstar. I would recommend using their service to compare products but once you decide go directly to the provider rather that clicking on the Canstar link.
I will never make that mistake again !!
more constar than canstar
surveys by canstar are private and nobody knows how they conduct their "surveys"
perhaps they just called a few of their mates
Constar gave RAC travel insurance 5 stars
Our own experience with RAC insurance is the opposite: I found them to be liars and downright thieves
They constantly make false and misleading statements and commercials.
Take their current TV commercials where they spruik being "local"
When you make a complicated travel claim they are anything but local. We called their help line but from then on we were transferred to their ...
