on. I contacted Cap Rouge and sent a bunch of photos and videos of the installation and general noisiness at their request. There were a few requests to send more to make sure that the motor wasn't touching the frame. I'd used a tourqe arm and I was happy that it was all solid and the requests were all understandable initially, but after a bit more back and forth, I began to get the sense that if I sent it off, it wasn't going to be taken seriously and it'd get shipped back, unresolved. I waited a while for it to cause itself obvious damage, which was drag for a couple of months as the clatter was loud and the experience was crappy. I eventually pressed them to take it back as a warranty issue and pulled it all off, boxed it up and paid to send it back. It took about 2 weeks to look at it after arrival and the initial response was "bench tested and rode it and no problem. Here's the video". Somewhat expecting this response, I'd taken a video of the motor, sounding cooked, off the bike which possibly convinced them to pull it apart and It was finally looked at under warranty. They replaced a mangled internal nylon gear with mention of a possible faulty bearing.

Happy to have it mounted up again it became apparent that the fix was bad. Audible creaks/cracks on pedal rotation which you could feel through the cranks, and the original noise started up again almost straight away. Messaged but never heard back which was actually fine. By this stage I'm over it. Based on their *immaculately clean* public face, they look amazing, but trying to get this warranty fix across the line was unexpectedly frustrating and time consuming. My motor was $850 which is cheap compared with some they sell. You'd hope for better support in the first year. If you enjoy scouring YouTube for DIY solutions, these are for you! If not, you may want to check if your local mechanic works on them and knows them well, as sorting warranty problems might be easiest at your cost.

This is hours of dissasembly faff (expected with online purchase) but it seemed like the best place to focus efforts as I thought the seller would understand any known issues best, plus: warranty. It all felt like maximum effort though. After 14 months, I've cut my losses and pulled this one off the bike and replaced it with a hub motor, which gives a calm and totally adequate power delivery and actually rocks! I blame this whole episode on my greed for unnesesary levels of torque.
