To whom it may concern,

I am writing this report to complain about Uber car share owner’s Customer service.

The borrower [Name Removed] took vehicle Toyota Hiace van from 07/10/2022 15:00pm from homezone till next day 08/10/2022 16:18 pm. Around this time I received a phone call from borrower [Name Removed]. He said the car is broke down and car is overheated, makes smoke. He shouldn’t drive vehicle when there smoke and overheated. I believe he kept drive while the vehicle was damaged. The vehicle was absolutely in a good condition and well maintained before this call I have received from him.

It was happened on Saturday late afternoon, there was no mechanics open around there. Also the car was located a far distance more than 1hour 15min away from my home zone. The vehicle was non drivable condition therefore it had been towed next day with no other choices.

When I got the car next day I checked vehicle there is no water in the radiator (totally empty)and I can smell something Burnt and there is huge damaged with a hole left bottom conner on the radiator.

I believe that something object hited radiator but the borrower didn’t realize and kept driven the vehicle. I checked with two qualified mechanics. They have same comment that the radiator must be hitted by something and it caused all problems.

I reported to the Uber car share company about this case. (Case Reference MDT#[Number Removed]) The case manager [Name Removed]. This happened last month on 08/10/2022. This takes so long to be processed and Uber share Company requested MOTOR VEHICLE CONSULTANTS report.

I have read the report but it doesn’t make sense.

“the radiator damge judging by the supplied image is not new damage, but rather damaged that was temporarily “Patched up” and subsequently failed, resulting in coolant loss”

How this can be patched up??

All the photos I have attached are after accident photos. Not before accident. [Name Removed] she believes I didn’t do any maintenance the vehicle before rent it out and she does not believe this incident was not caused by [Name Removed].

I have clear evidence photos and I have own RACQ inspection report.

The vehicle is still parked at the mechanic shop but couldn’t start repairing as there is no confirmation. I'm frustrated and stressed about how much money and time I have lost so far.

Uber car share company must sort it out this problem asap.

I am going to take legal action if Uber car share company can't sort out this issue.

Regards, [Name Removed]

Que? You want to know how much you’ll make? Well that depends on 1) where you live 2) the rates you set and 3) how available you make your car I spend no time trying to get my car booked and I make enough to pay rego, insurance and maintenance on it each year. I’m sure if I tried (and lowered my daily rate) I could make more but I don’t bother. So a couple of grand I guess…

Hi, Brent. We can definitely understand the need to know how much income your car could earn. Please know that your car's earnings will depend on a number of factors – the main one being how often it's available for bookings.

Cars that are only shared occasionally earn around $300 a month on average, while the top-earning cars, utes, and vans shared full-time bring in $1,000 to $2,000 per month.

Hi all, Any car owners in the Car Next Door providers encountered billing discrepancies pertaining to distance shortage. GPS readings of Car Next Door do not tally with my odometer for the latest 2 bookings in Jan 2022. They insisted their GPS distance records more accurate than my odometer readings taken before and after borrower returned car. Difference is vast like 842km and 446km, loss of earnings to compensate the wear and tear of my auto parts. Thanking in advance for any constructive comments please.

Hi Patricia! We are sorry for any inconvenience about the distance issue on the borrower's trip. We can see that you have already requested for investigation on this, if you don't agree with the decision made, you have an option to have it disputed and have it checked by Senior support. Hi Patricia,

Rather than going through the peanut gallery that is carnextdoor send me a direct message as I'm organising a few things to actually have serious matters like these solved.

Hope to hear from you.

I doubt Mathew D. will be able to resolve anything given his account was just created yesterday hahaha

Created the account purely to get in touch with people sharing the same grievances (See my recent review on car next door). If I'm honest I reckon Patricia has a better chance at getting it resolved with me rather than sitting on hold to the call centre in Manilla listening to that horrible cheesy guitar riff on loop

I was seriously considering renting my car out on this platform. However, I noticed that not a single 5-star owner review has been published this year, and only one 4-star one too. As a car owner, it is rather terrifying to see how positively this service is portrayed for owners on your website and advertising, yet for your customer service to them being so bad. Note the fact that you have to spend so much time explaining the same policy to owners, such as how batteries being depleted by borrowers or internal window switches being broken count as 'wear and tear'. These are nothing but intentional damage, yet you are allowing this policy to continue which is heavily discouraging owners from continuing or starting to share their car. It is surprising that for these sorts of issues you have not changed your policy and make it so difficult for the car owner to prove it was the owner's fault. If nothing else, at least the borrower should be forced to be liable for half the cost of such 'wear and tear' to heavily discourage them from not caring for the vehicle. I am genuinely saddened that such a promising start up has become so poorly managed that only owners of cars barely worth $3-4k could really considering hiring them out here, as there are many nice cars sitting around that owners would love to share and borrowers would love to borrow. I am genuinely interested to know what your actual plan for improving CarNextDoor is, because until then I will manage without the potential for extra income.

Don’t bother with this company, have tried to deal with their so-called ‘customer service’ for a month as a borrower and it’s just non-existent. Such a poor customer service culture in this company.

As above. It might work well for a while but you will get a bad renter who will wipe out any money you have made and car next door will not be interested in you anymore.

Car Next Door has nothing to do right now besides steal money. I have reported to Police NSW and many other authorities already. Car Next Door is a laugh, tried steal money from me but couldn’t, dug themselves a hole to fall down into a criminal offence if more people report this company. I have spoken to LawAccess, NSW FairTrading etc. Car Next Door users like myself should report online. A record is all that matters :)! Protect the consumers from corrupt companies like Car Next Door!

Arnie the problem with Product Review is that generally its only people who have a gripe that post on it. Car Next Door gets 25000 bookings a month, and when the numbers are that big, there are going to be things that dont turn out as some expect and then they turn to something like this to post. The the people in the 24500 bookings that run smoothly dont post here to say that everything worked as expected.

Thats why you'll also see Airbnb ( a great business) with 1.5 Stars here, Uber, 1.3 stars, and bunnings with renowned customer service on their refund policy with 2.2 stars.

Car Next Door certainly has had its faults (I work there) but I wouldnt go looking too hard here for a balanced view.

Im not sure about that - even if the logic is true the feedback which has been posted is very consistent in terms of terrible customer service and unauthorised charges - I spoke to NSW fair trading and they said if they get ten or more compalints they will investigate them - these people are not just lousy with customer service, once they have access to your credit card they just keep stealing money from it. Theses are serious complaints. I have been practising law now for thirty years and have never seen anything like it.

If anyone wants to connect up in a group and take CND to the media message me directly. I know a few people who have unethically lost thousands to these conners.
