Most of the wait staff were rude/stressed/anxious and short tempered. They looked exhausted and miserable. The ship was overcrowded - jammed in like sardines. There are 2 relatively small pools on the ship and some hot tubs - but its mostly full. I dont understand how anyone would want to go on another cruise with carnival after seeing what its like on board. Genuinely concerned for the staff. Show details
This cruise, regardless of what Carnival say, is all about KIDS and BOOZE. They drink 24/7 in all areas of the ship, including the toilet and lifts. Because of that many groups are loud and out of control. Don't mind people drinking but a time and place for it. So many walk around with a glass of wine that some staff have the job of mopping up… Read more
spillages in walkways. Children EVERYWHERE. Most parents do not control their children so run up and down hallways outside cabins. The only place where there are no kids is about a 20mtr quite area at the rear of the ship. Had to eat breakfast in the dining room to "head shoulders knees and toes" and "I'm a little teapot" and other kid songs over the sound system. There are not enough seating for the amount of people. Couldn't embark at Airlie Beach due to bad weather!!!. The best part was the wonderful staff. Would never do this cruise again.

It was my first time going on Carnival Luminosa, well actually first time going on a cruise ship. Everyone was so nice and welcoming and not only that, There were people who helped me find my way and let me hang out with them since I was by myself. It made the holiday even better. Loved the Stateroom Attendant, always nice and always asks how you… Read more
are going. When I did go to Port Douglas, I could not believe the line, it was huge, it did get to the point I had to sit on the floor because of my foot, it is hard to stand for a long period of time but I know it was out of their control due to I think it was low tides so they could not bring the shuttle boat in. I think it would have been nice to have seats around at least especially for those who cannot stand for a long time. Also I really did enjoy the buffet on Carnival Luminosa but I think there should be more variety of drinks and food. It would also be nice to have some snacks during the day where you get a little peckish like some fruit, finger foods etc. The food was enjoyable. I did not like the lemonade but I did enjoy the iced tea. I still think for my first time, the experience was wonderful and will go on Carnival Luminosa again.
Just got off this lovely boat today, cabin staff were amazing to deal with, entertainment was okay but thats where the positives end unfortunately. The first night we were booked into the restaurant onboard, the free food on the menu wasn't the best, I don't think any of us actually finished our meal... Buffet on level 9 is no better, cold… Read more
tasteless food. I'm not sure if thats why I'm sick after returning home... I believe health regulations state that food must be above 60 degrees when serving? (Especially protein elements). A member of my family was over charged for a couple of items. Adults only pool closes so early, so you have to use the over crowded small one on deck 9. This was my third cruise, first with carnival and it will be the last. Thanks to all the amazing staff, who were incredibly kind to my family while we were on board.
We just came off the Brisbane to cairns cruise 7nights. We had an amazing time and found the staff amazing and so helpful & friendly. The ship was kept clean all the time. checking us into the Vella Restaurant. The waiter staff Noel Sarah, Lawrence, Aiyan so many of them remember our names even when passing on the ship they make the cruise so much fun and cleaning crew especially Baby Jane who was so friendly & fun while constantly cleaning. The fun club Paris, Raffi & especially Rueben who my grandson loved. I used carnival to book everything through & it was all perfect from check in to saying good bye. We ate breakfast & dinner in the restaurant most of the time and sometimes from buffet we loved the trivia & relaxation. Shore excursions ran fairly smoothly given amount of people to be moved about. We did the anytime dining & just clicked on the app when we were ready for dinner & usually about 10 minute wait. Plenty of water, ice, tea & coffee available free & free ice cream from 11am. I did hurt myself at one point & had to use medical but once again could not fault service or price.
Worst cruise ship I’ve ever travelled on. Food was no good / no shows / very little entertainment we stayed in a suite but there was no benefits Show details

If i could give zero stars, that would have been for fitting regarding our experience with this horrible cruise line. They confiscate any alcohol you take on board even within the limits and qty allowed if carried in your checked baggage. They give… Read more
you a receipt so you can collect your goods on disembarking and then they advise you you're not getting it back. Nice little money scam they've got going on the side. Letters sent to the guest services, President of Carnival Cruise Lines and even the board with not 1 single reply. Absolute appalling cruise line and will NEVER sail with them again. Food was horrible, and almost non existent things for children to do.

entertainment was fantastic, with something to do at all times and activities for all ages. Our cruise director, Louie, truly went above and beyond to ensure everyone had an amazing experience.
A huge hats off to the best dining room service team—Suwarma, Ketut, and Princess Dianne—who made every meal memorable. We will always have the memories of the time spent in their care, close to our hearts.
The fun team brought nonstop laughter to every event, the ship was spotless throughout, and the food was simply amazing. We highly recommend Luminosa for 2026 and can’t wait to sail again—we’ll definitely be back! The trip definintely exceeded all of our expectations.
I am disappointed to see so many poor reviews on here regarding this ship. My husband saw these 8 days ago just before we boarded and was concerned. I told him to keep an open mind. board, main pool was on the small size (but the ship is not that big). Who ever said their Steak was grey in the fine dining restaurant - the Sirloin steak was so nice I ordered it 2 days in a row. The grilled barramundi was also very nice. Staff all excellent. The food/beverage and housekeeping roster is 8 months straight and these guys work very hard. The ship was also very clean. A positive experience by us.

Waited over an hour for tenders and the line for the tender was over 50m. Poor systems in place. We spent more time waiting for the tender than at port Douglas . Food is average. I see why people pay a bit more for other cruise lines.our baby had to pay half the price of an adult fee too Show details
Went on the Luminosa/3-day cruise out of Brisbane (5-8 March 2026) Ship a bit old and needs a good refab, but it was clean! Using the Carnival internal wifi was easy and everything was at your fingertips Staff couldn't be more helpful and friendly Food was good at the restaurant and steak house Buffet was okay, lots of choices, but all over the place Piano bar, nightclub---dance the night away Carnival you always do a nice job Show details

On the 08-03-2026 myself and my wife boarded the Luminosa to head up into the tropic's and we couldn't do the full trip due to thing beyond anyones control. factor that really need to be looked at in a serious way. To many times we docked late and this made me so angry as a photographer my time was cut short in get off and taking photo's. The there was this st^pid from as if we left Australia's waters and we were told we had to fill in the form to reenter Australia when we had in no way left our shores. It seems to me that the staff were following rules but these rules were not needed in any way as on departure with this form it wasn't even needed. But we were told it had to be filled in. Just a load of trash. I disliked a lot of my time on board. The redeeming part was to say the position where we were seated for our meals. This ran on time right to the time. And the 3 staff looking after us in Win Win, Chanel and Kayen (I am sorry if their names are wrongly spelt) But these 3 made our trip a blast as they always more than helpful and ready to do more for us. Win Win was a true GEM, she is such a great person. So never lose this one. Over all if the trip went as good as these 3 people it would of been a better review. There is more but I will leave this for my wife who is better with words.
Cleaners stole my credit card details and I started getting charged 2 days after the cruise. I had only used that card on the ship in that last month. IO contacted Carnival and they ignored it and told me to call the police. My wallet got placed inside my brothers bag while it was inside the room. I didnt think much of it until I the stealing started. Cant reccomend Carnival at all Show details

One star is too much. I slipped and fell over before the ship even departed. A five night cruise turned into the holiday from hell, torn muscles galore. Recently completed a 7 day cruise with Carnaval and I would be reluctant to do another one on this Cruise line. The good things were; the crew are very helpful and friendly. is useless both on the ship and in their main office. They need to change the name because there is no care. I do not recommend purchasing the Cheers Drink Package as its not worth the money unless you are a big drinker who will drink the allowance every day. They have now removed the inclusion of specialty coffee and Teas so its now less economical. In my case I purchased the package because of that inclusion but it was removed without any communication about the change, which in my book is wrong. There were a number of seasoned cruisers on board complaining and vowing not to sail with Carnaval again. Where there is smoke there is fire but its a huge company and its a numbers game to them. Happy travels.

Two weeks ago my party (8 persons) came off a Carnival Lumonisa Cruise to the South Pacific. Was a 11 days cruise which turned into a 14 day cruise because of the cyclone Alfred. No complaints there, nothing the cruise company or captian could have done. We were scheduled to go to Vanuatu but because of the recent earthquake as it was unsafe to… Read more
dock at the port, no problems there. We were also scheduled to visit Port Denarau and Dravuni Island but because of the seas, it was deemed unsafe to be tendered in. I've got my doubts about that, instead were were taken to Lautoka and Suva, which was a let down. The ship itself was good, easy to get around. The cabins were spacious, clean and well attended by the Cabin Steward, Pandu. The food in the dining room was good overall. With some dishes very good to not acceptable. The waiters, George, Wayan and Kingston were exceptional, they looked after our needs very well. Other waiters were not so good. Now, the Marketplace or bistro was another thing. The food best described as well below par. In the evening very few persons ate there. There was one station open and the food was mostly of asian origin and most with spices and chilli. There was no presentation, just slops in the tray. The deli was a little better, but you get sick and tired of eating the same food for lunch and dinner. Breakfast was fine without going overboard. The pizzas were ok (just) the crust was very thin and with the topping was about half a cm thick. The entertainment was good in the theatre with the ships band very good. Else where the entertainment was a little below par. The ships crew were good and pleasant to talk to. Disembarkation was a shambles, no organisation whatsoever, no announcements, leaving people with commitments to disembark early, at the end of the line. Found out later people missed connections and had to make alternative arrangements. At the time of disembarkation it was bucketing down with rain. The crew stood around undercover without assisting with umbrellas etc. Whoever was incharge of disembarkation should be sacked. I have been on about 14 cruisers and this, by far was the worst organised disembarkation I have encountered, absolute shambles. Considering the weather conditions, the crew did nothing to assist people getting off the ship. The roads around the terminal were flooded and detours were inplace. These detours were also flooded and difficult to get through. Maybe Carnival should have not let people to disembark because of the weather conditions.? There was another cruise scheduled to depart later that evening with passengers waiting in the terminal, its all about money with Carnival. About 2 years ago we cruised with P&O, I thought that was below standard, but Carnival Lumonisa topped that. Would I cruise with Carnival again, NO, unless I was given a free cruise with all the bells and whistles. Overs the past years of cruising the standard has deteriated badly with the food at standout. Staff has been cut back and the overall experience of cruising has also deteriated, particularly with Carnival and P&O.
I WOULD NOT BOTHER, terrible food and terrible experience and now I have arrived home only to find that I have charged twice on my credit card, which means I am financially impacted and so I ring the helpline only to be directed to complete a form which tells me they will take 72 hours to provide a statement. NEVER AGAIN AND WOULD NOT RECOMMEND… Read more

Recently returned from a fiji cruise on carnival luminosa. Returned on the Sunday night of cyclone Alfred. Agree with everything that was written in reviews before mine. the places in fiji that we were supposed to because of cyclone seroo. Was a major upset. No compensation for that but ok cause you can't control the weather. As for the ship was severely disappointed, was much better 2 years ago when I journeyed on it. Unfortunately I am a smoker and the smoking area is extremely dangerous, so many people fell over on this slippery deck with one lady even dislocating her shoulder and having to fly home from vanuatu. Drink packages and pay as you go for drinks are both highly expensive and bar tenders try to push you to have $6 extra double shots each time and seem to get disappointed with you if you don't say yes. Food has also lost it's lustre in every area of the ship, buffet, pizza, tacos and deli. I found in the main dining room if I had a entrees, main and dessert that only one of the servings was OK. We also only had a 2 minute sail away party, don't understand what the heck happened there???. Ship was immaculate in cleanliness and rooms were kept clean, although beds hard as a rock. I bought my own mattress topper because I knew from last time that beds were hard but it did not help much. The deck crew young men in the smokers area worked tirelessly and deserve a pay rise. Such a beautiful ship on the inside, company just need to make some changes like bringing back the bar near smoking area for one, so dangerous to make people walk so far for a drink when bar below deck shuts at 6 and 7.
I just had a 4 day cruise to Airlie beach which I thoroughly enjoyed. The staff on the Luminous were very polite and welcoming in every inch of the ship. Well done. The rooms, the food was great. Show details

ALFRED
Firstly, if you are in an area that is being impacted by Tropical Cyclone Alfred, we hope you are staying safe. We remain in contact with port officials as we work on plans for your voyage. A post-storm assessment must be conducted before we can be cleared to head in. We are expecting this be tomorrow morning, Sunday, 9 March, and hope to receive permission to proceed into port in the afternoon. While this would necessitate a later embarkation, it would allow us to still offer a 4-day voyage, keeping our planned itinerary. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide you with timely updates. Please do not proceed to the wharf until you have received our final update with revised embarkation details.
We are currently going through a cyclone(Alfred ) on the Gold Coast I have rang and emailed Carnival regarding the update on weather or not we are sailing out, I mean they have no consideration on the fact that people are without power , and are undergoing damaged properties and yet we are still meant to sail out today the 9th March. kidding here the weather is so dangerous the Brisbane terminal is closed and all we have been told is that we will receive an update by 1pm, and we still don’t know if we’re going or not. this is a joke they don’t want to take the initiative to be smart and not put lives in danger to go out to sea in this terrible weather . It’s a cyclone for the love of God, people can’t even fly in from interstate but we’re left in limbo, they should offer a cruise credit or refund for the unavoidable natural disaster we’re currently have endured. This is disgraceful from Carnival they have no duty of care or compassion for ppl like myself that have lost so much through this cyclone , just refund or give us a cruise credit , such a selfish company just wanting to keep ppls money. Never travel with Carnival
I have been waiting for updates for our cruise regarding Cyclone Alfred in Australia. I have not had one email or correspondence from Carnival about what is being considered offered or done regarding our Cruise on Sunday the 9th of March 2025. I’m not alone with this issue I feel Carnival don’t want to know attitude. A email once a day would be sufficient to know what the situation is for all those Cruising. Thankyou Show details
The worst cruise I have been on – We just did a family cruise on the luminosa and honestly if it was my first cruise I would never go on another one. The cleanliness on the lido deck was disgusting in the whole week we… Read more
never saw another wipe the tables down. Most tables the plates were just collected and that was it , I which I had wipes to wipe the tables before we sat to dine. Plus was probably lucky for the soft serve machine as no one could make a descent custard on board was runny like milk and at times lumpy, Hense soft serve on crumbles etc. the staff in main dining room and for cleanliness of rooms I couldn’t fault and would go out of there way to help which was the best part of the cruise. The entertainment totally sucked as was only two theatre shows during the whole week. We where lucky we took a deck of cards to play with family , we love trivia but not themed trivia as if you don’t watch the golden girls, Harry Potter, dr who you have no hope playing trivia as was only a couple of general knowledge. You also couldn’t hear properly when someone spoke over speakers it was always muffled. Sad to say we were all very happy to be home , which we have never felt before on any other cruise.
Carefree Cruiser – Just came off 8 day cruise Brisbane , Airlie beach, Cairns, Port Douglas, Willis Island Brisbane, Room was spacious and cleaned daily thank you Marlon, food was exceptional in flavour, freshness, staff were always polite and accommodating, entertainment was awesome always something to do or game to play for all ages..highly recommend Luminosa for 2025 Show details
How many people has this happened to? – Our family did back-to back cruises on Carnival Luminosa in November 2024 & were very pleased with the cruises & Carnival until a couple weeks after arriving home. disembarkation. Hadn't looked at it then as we were in a hurry to go for breakfast & to leave the ship. We always have cash on our ship accounts & had closed our account after dinner on the last night. There was a small amount of money left on our account & I was given that in cash. We then went to our cabin & then to our daughter's cabin to play cards with our granddaughter. That is where we were when half an hour after I closed our account, someone bought a glass of wine & charged it to my account. After several phone calls & emails to Carnival, to explain why this debt was not mine, Carnival still insisted that I owed them money. I told them I was putting the matter in the hands of Fair Trading. This week, finally the matter is closed. Carnival has said "as a courtesy " they will not proceed with the case. A warning to other people to keep checking your account, to keep any receipts & statements, even after getting home from your cruise. My niece, who was on the same cruises, also got an email saying she owed Carnival $13.
