I broke my ankle and had operation 4 weeks before intending to travel to China. We were refunded full cost of trip by CHI and very impressed with the process. We have used CHI several times now. Show details

CHI very disappointing – Our policy was a non event. We lodged our claim in April only to be told in June we can’t claim should have known better after reading reviews. Never again. Show details

Scammers – CHI insurance refuse to give any persons a refund on their insurance. Due to the coronavirus our travel was cancelled and they do not refund at all. So they keep thousands of people’s money for themselves. So disgusting and you would be crazy if anyone ever uses this company. Can’t believe how any company can prey on innocent and vulnerable people. Show details

cone of silence do not use – I purchased this cruise insurance through a travel company before the news of the covid19 hit. Reading the policy is a "blanket" exclusion on a pandemic, but "certain circumstances" may be taken into account. Trying to contact this company when you need it most is nigh on impossible. After wading through a muriad of recorded phone options, I ended… Read more

up at the underwriter of CHI which is the Allianz claims department. I finally got through to a real person and was told in the first instance was to call the insurer CHI for clarification. After finally getting through to someone at CHI I was directed back to the Allianz claims department. What a joke, all I want is an answer on my particular situation for the ability to claim for cancellation costs on a cruise in November 2020. I also have emailed the claims department for clarifiaction on 28/4/2020 and still no response as at 11/5/2020. Not ideal customer service.

Fraud – Paid for travel insurance. Due to COVID19 our cruise was cancelled. CHI just continue to ignore us. Take money can’t provide service. Not our fault. Do the right thing. Won’t reply. Fraudsters. Show details

Stay away – What ever you do, do not even consider travel insurance with this fraudulent company. They don't pull through with anything. I was unable to travel due to my father being sick with stage 4 cancer, I provided every document you can think of, from scans to hospital letters and doctor reports.... And we made sure that the claim complies with the… Read more

product disclosure statement as well as the terms and conditions to making a claim. We spent hours and hours gathering documents together in such a stressful time and they the just kept passing us on to someone else. Never ever use this company. I would give a 0 star rating but unfortunately 1 star is the minimum on google. Stay away!!!!

Never Again! – I took insurance for a cruise and through the night prior to the cruise I came down with an awful stomach virus (sparing the details here). The cruise line will not allow anyone on the ship who has had this virus or has it (and a disclaimer must be signed before boarding). I wouldn't have been able to travel 1.5 hours to the terminal anyway. It… Read more

was heartbreaking to have to cancel. CHI are declining to honour my travel insurance because I didn't go to the doctor for 5 days. I had an appointment 3 days after th cancellation but the doctor was running over an hour behind and I couldn't bring myself to sit there feeling like garbage to be told what I already knew. I explained to CHI it was a stomach virus and I didn't see a need for a doctor. The medical certificate required is in the policy. I took this to my doctor to complete my claim 2 months after the cancellation (remember you have 12 months to claim). I sent off all my documentation, they contacted me for further information and then knocked my claim back. I cannot see anywhere in the policy stating I need immediate doctor attention for a certificate. If anyone can find it, please let me know and I will eat my words and remove this post. If I'm wrong though, I will still never use them due to the arrogance of the rep who processed my claim. I am taking this further, not for the money, just out of principle.

This is the WORST company to deal with!!! – Lost some very valuable possessions e.g laptop. I would stay away from CHI Travel Insurance. They do not cover anything lost or left behind. They have disclosures for everything to cover themselves. Make sure you read all the small print. Their reason was because I left my luggage at the hotel which is classified as a 'public' place hence they did not want to cover me!!! Do yourself a favour and choose another company for travel insurance.  Show details

Worst Company Ever! – Worst company I've ever dealt with. Liars and thief. Paid $450 for my travel policy and they refuse to return my ticket. They tell you something and then when you need to take up a claim, they start making up excuses and tell you it's not covered. Basically nothing is covered under their top cover. Never will I ever book with them again. They wasted my time, my energy and efforts, not to mention made me lose $4000 because of their crap claims.  Show details

Absolutely Horrible – Never book with CHI travel insurance. Tried to make a claim and they never take forever and are really vague about what they are saying, hoping you will just give up trying to claim. So much for processed in 10 days, more like 2 months!  Show details

Avoid CHI Insurance - dodgie set up – I was stoked to find a relatively cheap insurance for our 12 month period of travel. Easily signed up with online and money taken. Received a very dodgey letter some time after the initial set up. (can not remember if in fact after the cooling off period) only to find out we were not covered at all due to the wrong coverage. max stay in any one… Read more

country was 90days for business travel. Something we knew we would be out of had I been aware of the restrictions of this policy. Then found out the underwriters Allianz..allow travel agents to sell their policies. Very rude and unprofessional contact that I dealt with intially. Conflicting advice from Allianz and then declination of claim due to agents denials. However also found very conflicting message in conditions..will be taking it further to the ombudsman as the policy details were very confusing.

Don't use CHI/Allianz for travel Insurance! – Of course you expect that insurance companies will do their best to dodge claims. They tend to rely on the fine print clauses in the policy that you probably didn’t read - and certainly aren’t bothered about when you are in the middle of a health crisis. They tried three different strategies in my case. Two failed. In the third case, about… Read more

half of my claim was refused.

I had heart related problems on the first day of a holiday in Italy which required an operation. During my recovery, I was advised by my Italian specialist to break my return journey to Australia to make it less arduous. That was something I would definitely not have otherwise done and turned out to be quite expensive (new flights and additional accommodation costs). The problem seemed to be that the Allianz’s Australian doctors did not agree and I was required to provide written proof of the advice after my claim was assessed. My attempts to contact my Italian specialist failed.

My beef is that I advised Allianz of the Italian medical advice before my return in writing (via e-mail to my case manager). They didn’t tell me they disagreed with the advice (I could have taken that further with my Australian doctor) or that I would need written proof. Ethically, I think they should have – if they were going to refuse that part of the claim later. At least they paid part of the claim! Seeming policy to avoid parts of claim relying on fine-print despite being advised of details in advance. Also, supposed "Case Manager" changed very frequently.

Travel Insurance – Avoid CHI Travel Insurance at all cost. Does not cover for lost items whilst travelling. Surely this is one of the main reasons for travel insurance, but no, they have a disclosure in the small print that allows them not to cover lost items. You must read the small print!!!!! Very bad experience – I had a fantasic holiday booked to NZ but 2wks prior to leaving had to have emergency neurological surgery, so had to cancel. All documentation from all doctors and specialists was forwarded at their request… Read more

and they state that the information is not sufficient and keep making excuses about why they cannot settle my claim. What is so frustrating is that this medical emergency (which was not pre existing) was life threatening and the communications I have had with this company has really impeded my recovery. My doctor thinks the company is questionable to say the least. There a several questions raised relating to travel insurance, that i would like to know and that is whether they work hand in glove with travel agents and what the qualifications are of their medical teams, because some of the question they ask are unproffessional and silly. Could go on for hours, bu this has definately been a horrible experience.
