Peace of mind – The insurance was easy to set up & covered all that I wanted at a reasonable price. The claim was simple and every person we spoke with was so supportive and helpful of our needs. I would like to make special mention of Fred who we liaised with on return to Australia and ensured we were all informed on the claim process and requirements to settle our claim. I would also like to thank Amy, Kerrie and Sarah who all made our communication while still overseas so simple and stress free which was so important given the circumstances we were worried about our son and the fact they made the process so easy took enormous pressure off us. When we tried to claim against our travel insurance we were asked for full medical records due to a gastric band that was mentioned in the medical reports. We felt like we had to go through the third degree and then had the claim rejected after weeks of waiting. I am sure anyone with food poisoning within 12 hours of an international flight would certainly be delaying the flight home, regardless of having a gastric band, however this did not even seem to be a consideration. We did not get a call to discuss before the claim was rejected, apparently because we didn't mention this procedure from 16 years prior it was a technicality that allowed them to reject the claim. Before this claim we had used 1Cover for all our travel insurance for several trips per year over several years. I guess my advice to others is to make sure you remember to mention even the things you don't think are a big deal so they can't find loopholes to get out of paying out. It would have been nice to have the opportunity for a review of this decision. I have lost a lot of faith in travel insurance since this situation, considering we had been loyal customers for such a long time. I don't feel like this claim was fairly dealt with and I don't have confidence that we will be taken care of in future.

Perhaps at little more communication between 1cover medical staff and Airline medical team in relation to the airline's own procedures and duty of care could have made preparations of our return trip a little smoother. A big thank-you to the 1cover representative who phoned and enquired about our wellbeing and my medical condition only a very short time after landing back in Australia. On going communication regarding personal claims and overseas medical expenses were trouble free and supportive. The many claims that were lodged were amalgamated into one claim for settlement. Compilation proved time consuming, as ours was an unusual case of cancellations and interruptions, which required input from many varied organisations and companies within the world of travel. Fred's and his teams' patience was "a virtue". Thanking you for the support. I have travelled internationally many times with this being my first claim due to trip interruption due to personal circumstances. During times of uncertainty and difficulty, it was comforting and reassuring to have a voice of assistance to rely upon. The form has changed alot, in the last couple of months. In my opinion overall, it's worse. I do like the fact you can name another person, to be able to deal with the policy, that's a plus & should've been a must, not optional. The downfall is..... pretty much everything else. you got to try & find the right places, that's wasting time & frustrating when you aint computer savvy. I couldn't see the list for what medical you already cover, unless you don't cover anything anymore - that part was totally different & annoying not knowing what you cover or don't cover - again frustrating - ARGH! The ongoing price at the different stages, are gone - you don't know the full price of everything, till you get to the pay page, WT! - I totally preferred the old format, it had everything listed you needed to know & was straight forward. The added name to be listed, should stay, as if you are injured - more than likely, it will be the listed person doing everything, not yourself. So low score for a very bad designed form, with less information than before & more frustrating than ever - Sorry! But you wanted my honest opinion.

Although it's easy to get the insurance and I have used 1Cover many times, this time I had to make a claim. The claims process was a terrible experience. I originally supplied all the required paperwork, but then got multiple requests to send it through again. The customer service was like talking to a machine with a week's delay in between. The quote system is easy to use but gets confusing if you can't find the country you intend to travel to. As an example, there are many countries throughout Europe but I was not clear if I just chose Europe. Northern Ireland is another example. Show details
