Can't sleep without it – I was a night asthma sufferer & now I'm not and it's all because of this. It works without showing signs it is, well it did for me, the water remained clear, the machine ionized air (makes heavier dust/pollen particals drop to the ground rather than float around) & it didn't evaporate fast because I live in a cool climate environment but it… Read more

was definitely working.

Thanks to the USB cable option I plug it into my little off-road camping battery so some nights I can run it without needing to connect it to the mains, so no electricity is needed making it the cheapest air cleaner I've ever used.

It doesn't work miracles over night, I think you still need to help it out by keeping your sleeping area spotless but my night coughing attacks became less frequent to the point that now I'm months free of coughing. This is going from multiple attacks a night to zilch.

So all I'm going to say here is if it's not performing miracles like you expected, put doubt aside and trust that it will improve quality of life over time because it did for me.

Great for the price at the time – Bought 2 from catchoftheday and overall I do like them, however after several months of having them, I have noticed some points that would be good for the company to improve on in any future models. The unit when it's on the rubber base can and does move if it isn't bone dry. The unit does become noisy after a few hours of operation The glass… Read more

Not helping me to breathe – My room is fairly small but I still can’t breathe. Put it away after the first few tries, and then brought it out again a couple of years later, still not a lot of joy? I really wanted it to work, bought a few others, also to no avail. Wish one would work!  Show details

Did the job – Bought this for the spare room that my son sleeps in when he visits. He always ends up with allergies when he stays over. After using it, he slept well and no allergy symptoms. Still can't work out what he reacts to but at least this product has helped him.  Show details

Absolutely Useless. Please read carefully – I am an Athsma and Hayfever sufferer, and I live in a dusty enviroment, and I was hoping it would help improve my sleep. I saw the Cli-Mate Air Washer on TV and thought that this could be a product that could help me. I purchased one for $89 at the Shaver Shop and took it home. Was a little disappointed that I could have bought it for $10 less… Read more

online at the Shaver Shop Online. But that is life I guess.

Before setting up this unit, I read the instructions very carefully, and I also cleaned, dusted and vaccumed the 3.5x4 meter room within an inch of its life, as I wanted to be sure that the product would have every chance to operate properly.

The product claims to remove Pollen, Pet Dander, Dust and other pollutants from the air without increasing the humidity in the room.

Day One; Set the unit up in a very clean room, and made sure that it had the 30cm clearance around it as instructed by the user instructions. I noted that after 24 hrs of continuous use that the water level had gone down to half of the level it had started with. The unit itself had a thin layer of dust build up on it as did the 30cm radius around the unit. Out side of the 30cm radius I could also see that there was a layer of dust forming again on the surrounding area. I cleaned and dusted everything again except the 30cm radius around the unit. I decided that this would be a good area to monitor as a control area. Theoretically inside that 30cm radius area should be the least contaminated because of the Air Washer. I wiped the dust off the unit and refilled the water level to the maximum again, noting that it was perfectly clean... It didnt improve my sleep, nor my hayfever or Athsma, but it was only the first night...

Day Two; Exactly the same results as the day before. Cleaned the top of the unit and topped the water up again. I also cleaned and dusted the room again except for the 30cm control radius around the unit. Noted that the water still was not dirty.

Day Three; Exactly the same results as the day before, but now I could see the makings of little dust bunnies inside that 30cm control radius area. I cleaned the unit and topped the water up again as it still had no signs of any contaminates in it. I placed an uncovered glass of water next to the unit on the outside of the 30cm control radius.

Day Four; Same results again... The water level had gone down to half, unit was dusty again. Water was still clean and in need of a top up. I again cleaned the room everywhere except the 30cm control radius area where a very noticeable layer of dust had started to form with the dust bunnies getting bigger. The uncovered glass of water had dust floating on top of the water that anyone could clearly see.

Day Five; Same results again. Unit was dusty, water was low again, and looking at the state of the room with its dust levels I was confused as to why nothing in the room was improving. So I again cleaned the room, topped up the water level again and noted that it was still contaminate free. More dust had settled in the uncovered glass of water than was in the Cli-Mates still clean water... Doesnt sound right does it?... There was no noticable difference to having the Cli-Mate to not having the Cli-mate.

This lead me to devise a test that would show me how it was drawing air into the unit. I borrowed a lighter and a cigarette of a friend. Now there is a tried true and proven method to use a flame to find a draft. The tip of the flame with move in the direction of the air movement, acting like an arrow pointing the way. I placed the flame around the opening of the Cli-Mate to see if the unit was drawing in any air. The flame showed me that the air was always moving away from the unit, and at no point in time did the flame look like it was drawn towards the Cli-Mate, it was always being pushed away. That raised my alarm bells, and would explain why I still had clean water inside the unit.

I then lit the cigarette and stood it up on its end to create a constant stream of vertical smoke. I placed it directly in front of the power button, no more than a cm away from the Cli-Mate so the smoke ran up the side of the unit. The Cli-Mate did not draw any of the smoke into the unit, it just pushed it away and into the air above it.

So I hen placed it directly behind the unit like i did at the front to see if it drew in air from behind. Again, the stream of smoke rose into the air and non of it was drawn into the unit. I then shifted it 90 degrees to the side of the unit where the opening starts, hoping that it might draw the smoke in there. There was the most insignificant change in air pressure there, but it still did not draw the smoke into the unit, it still pushed the contaminates into the air.

The fan inside the Cli-Mate points upwards, and is designed to push the air out, it is also above the water sprayer, which means that it is not at any point passing any of the air through the water spray. If the air does not physically pass through the water spray it is not getting washed. Plus I noticed that the single entry/exit point for the air to enter/exit the unit does not take air in, in any capacity. The cyclonic affect really only moves the water in the bowl. The bowl was also very cool to touch. This would be because the water and the air circulation inside the unit are contained creating an evaporation effect increasing the humidity inside the room. I don't need a humidifier, I wanted cleaner air in my environment.

I understand that dust particles are macro in size, but smoke particles and pollen particles are macro sized. The Cli-Mate at no point over the 5 days needed a complete water change, just top ups. I did not use the oil that it came with as I wanted to see just how much material it collected. The glass of water that sat next to the Cli-Mate had more contaminates in it after a few days than the Cli-Mate did.

I returned the Cli-Mate to the Shaver Shop for a product exchange. As they would not give a refund. This is Illegal, but I could not be bothered arguing with them about consumer law.

Clearly this product does not work. I went to Gorfreys and purchased a Doctors Choice Air Purifier which has a Hepa filter and actually draws air through the unit. It has a proper dirty air intake, and a proper clean air outlet. Over the same 5 days, I noticed a difference in the dust and contaminate levels in the room I had the Cli-Mate in. For the $49 at Godfreys it works infinitely better than the Cli-Mate and you will be $30-40 better off in your wallet too.

Before I purchased the Doctors Choice Air Purifier, I looked at all the other water based Air Washers and they all had the exact same design faults with the fan being on top of the water sprayer pushing air away from the spray and not through it, and a single intake/outlet port for air to move through. This negates air flow. (Think of your lungs here, you cant inhale and exhale at the same time, it is physically impossible!) If your smart, Google AIR WASHERS and see how they are supposed to work. These little units can not and do not work unless the air is passed through the water spray to trap the contaminates. Evaporation inside the unit wont trap particles if there is no air flow.

Yes I may have to by a filter one a year, but at least I am actually get cleaner air now. DONT BE FOOLED and buy an AIR WASHER. Get a unit that has a 3-4 stage filter and you will see the results.

Works fine – These units are ideal for micro particles, especially allergens, NOT DUST, dust particles are MACRO in size....they work using an evapoarative principle, in cooler climates they may be less effective, some folk think they will remove dust and keep the house clean, some even think the particulate matter collects in the water, not so, the fan helps… Read more

the fine evapoararing h2o circulate where it adheres to micro particles, these particles carry an electric charge, ionization neutralize the particles, basic simple science.

So helpful!! Worth the $ (pet in bedroom/hoarder) – I live in a old house, I share my bedroom with a bunny and I'm a hoarder. This has been fantastic I breathe better, I do have asthma and smoke (only outside) I get hay fever. But I've noticed a change in my health . Now let me get to the details I have mine going 24/7, everyday the water is changed and to bring up the water now... mine does… Read more

get dirty!!! The colour is like a unclear grey, Not only that I've found what looks like maybe food when I'm cleaning it. On the top of the bowl it gets really dirty I'm not sure how to explain it but it's like set into the glass and I can't get it clean. I almost took a star off my rating because of this but it may be me not cleaning it the right way, the fact that I am having trouble cleaning it to me at least means it's doing it's job!

I love I'm no longer able to smell my bunny smells he makes and his toliet tray. ( that's with no oils) I actually like the noise as my bedroom is next to a car park, it sits on my bedside table as it's very handy as a night light to save power. I'm definitely going to keep using thumbs up!

Too good to be true – My poor Mother is suffering with bad lungs .I lent her my ventilator but it did not do too much.So I found the Air washer in Harvey Norman. Sunday afternoon we switched it on by Sunday night she was coughing up phlegm.Monday morning a lot more. By Tuesday she said her chest did not feel tight anymore and had the best sleep in more than 3 months. So now she is not struggling to breath.I really recommend it.

Fantastic – I saw this item advertised on tv and was immediately curious about it as myself and my child suffer from allergies but due to the price it put me off as it's a lot to spend if the item is nothing more then a gimmick. I ended up being given this item as a gift and I have to say it has been fantastic. The main thing to remember is everyone is… Read more

different, what works for some may not work for others but that in no way implies it's a piece of costly junk that doesn't work. Neither myself nor my child since using this item have had any issues associated with allergies, we haven't suffered from sneezing, watery itchy eyes, runny nose, sinus congestion & also my child would occasionally suffer from mild eczema due to allergies but as I've stated since using this item we haven't had any of these issues. The added bonus of this product is it can be used as a scented air machine but if you suffer from asthma it's probably not the best idea to use oils in it as that could be a potential irritant. Also the light adds a prettiness feature to it which their isn't anything wrong with that it's just an added bonus. As for the negative reviews of this product I will also point out the same thing that the positive reviews have stated. It will NOT replace a feather duster and vacuum cleaner. It's not a cure to end household chores or ailments. It is simply an added extra to help aid in the reduction of allergies and asthma triggers due to fine particles not visible to the naked eye. It's no different then any other products recommended by the asthma council that may help sufferers eg: special pillows, hepa filter vacuums, air purifiers, those products may help individuals reduce things that can be a trigger to the main issue but it's not an overall solution to solve the issue at hand, you still need to clean your house, it's not going to do the housework for you so if you want something that gets rid of all dust that gathers around your home and you cannot be bothered to clean yourself then HIRE A MAID.

What a Rip Off – I purchased a CLI~MATE air washer just before Christmas 2014 believing that being Asthma Foundation endorsed it would do the job for which it was intended. It didn't. I tried to return the unit to Shaver Shop Penrith for a refund and was treated as trash, being told to contact the supplier. I then contacted CLI~MATE and was subsequently told… Read more

there is nothing wrong with the unit ("if the fans spinning its working" / "it collects the unseen particles in the air").

I find this totally unacceptable. If something can't do the job for which it is intended am I not entitled to a refund?

This device is a Con, it does not do the job advertised.

Do yourself favour Dont buy it!

Excellent for Asthma sufferers! – Within 1 day of use my family noticed an incredible difference, no sniffling/sneezing a night, woke up feeling refreshed. This product is not a cleaning product, so as for the reviews above, buy a duster to remove dust and start cleaning, this is to aid in reducing allergens not reform your house cleaning duties! Definitely a must for allergy sufferers!!

Love it! – I bought one, sold after I read up and researched the sensitive choice approval by the asthma council. Air purifiers are made to improve your air quality, not clean your home. It has been a godsend to me and my family. We sleep better, not waking up with allergies. It treats the dust found in the air (very small airborne dust) not the clumps of stuff found on a dirty couch. If you struggle with coughing at night, I recommend it highly

electric air freshener – My husband bought this for me as i suffer from allergies and hayfever as the advertising said it washes the air and cleans it before returning it to the room. This device does not draw in air but blows it out. We tested this by using candle smoke which we expected to draw into the machine and returning to the room as clean air. blown away from the machine. If scented oil is added to the water it does fill the room with the scent so the machine seems to be more of a fancy air freshener than air washer

Works really well – I bought it because both my partner and I suffer from allergies and we leave it in our bedroom and this has been a godsend as we no longer wake up with congestion every morning As the other review pointed out it isn't a substitute for a vacuum cleaner and a duster (but I can't really believe many people really expect clean your appartments for you :P Well worth the money just don't buy it if you want it to do your vaccuming for you :-)

Useless – I bought the Cli-Mate CLI-AW200L 'Air Washer' after seeing it in a Shaver Shop catalogue. I bought this 'air washer' out of curiosity and the hope that it would help reduce dust in my apartment. It claims to operate by drawing in air through a central fan, washing it and then releasing clean air into the environment. In reality the central fan is… Read more

too weak to actually draw dust particles in. I observed dust and fibres drift past the intake of this machine and land on nearby surfaces.

I had a look at the inside of this unit. As far as I understand it only intakes air through the front of the unit (despite the circular appearance of the grille) and has no exhausts. The principle of operation seems mysterious to me since the unit doesn't actually release any air back into the environment and a fan cannot simultaneously suck air in and blow it out the same intake.

The 'Air Washer' sucks water up from the bowl and then sprays it onto the sides of the glass, and maybe it captures a few particles that drift into the intake. A large bowl of water would do the same thing, but of course it wouldn't look as fancy without the spinning water vortex and the LED lighting. If you put the included eucalpytus oil in, the water gets frothy, which I suppose also encourages you to think the air is being 'washed'.

Cli-Mate claims on their website and in their marketing that the product covers up to a 10m2 area, has proven results of removing up to 60% of pollutants in 24 hours, and was tested by an independent 3rd party laboratory. Note that none of these things are ever stated in the same sentence. Removes up to 60% of pollutants - from what, the air that passes through the unit? From inside a 1m3 sealed box? Cli-Mate doesn't state how it arrives at that 60% figure, and it seems doubtful that Air Washer would remove 60% of the particles from an average 10m2 room given its low air circulation. Cli-Mate does not even name the 3rd party laboratory that did the testing or link to the report. It is not even clear that it was the 3rd party laboratory that provided the 60% figure.

I should add that this product is being sold exclusively through the Shaver Shop, which is important because they are notorious for refusing refunds. They refused to give me a refund for this Air Washer, saying it was not their policy. This is despite it saying on their receipts that "You can return an item for a refund or exchange if it is unsafe; incorrectly described; doesn't do what we said it would; or has a major problem that would have stopped you from buying the item if you had known about it." They can refuse a refund because the claims made about this product are so vague that technically they aren't outright lying, just being terribly misleading.

This is a $129 device which is a fan and a bowl of water. You could probably get better results by pointing a desktop fan at a bowl of water or a wet towel. You can buy a HEPA filter with a big fan for near the same price: http://www.myer.com.au/shop/mystore/homedics-air-cleaner-with-remote-ar100

I regret buying this product and warn others against making the same mistake.
