Coates Hire

Such a bad place to work. Worried about customers more than safety
Our client hired a port-a-loo for our worksite through their civil company. In the first clean out Coates made a complaint we had put 3 bolts into the toilet which could damage their pumping equipment. My co-worker and I are not children and our client is well aware we would not have done this. The bolts are corroded suggesting they have been in… Read more
there a period of time. Also they are used for joining metal purlins. We are not using a bolt of this type on the project.
This was originally a one-star review. However after speaking to management they understood my complaint and disregarded the information given by the service personnel.
100% service in 2 weeks – Second time of hiring from coates , they organized a pick up FOR a 3 disc Grinder and Vacuum p/u from Gladesville for my convenience /pick up was VERYgood /helpfull. and retunt to Gladesville easy as and again VERY competative.this was a 3 disc grinder/vacuum ,normally kept at more industrial branches, but helped out by aranging it to be picked up at gladesville, this alone saved me time and driving time well done COATES
Check the equipment before leaving shop – I hired a trailer for the weekend to move some furniture and remove shrubs and small trees to the waste management centre for mulching. On the Sunday my neighbour noticed a big chunk of rubber out of the sidewall of the tyre. On Monday morning I returned the trailer and notified Coates of the tyre damage. I was told by a staff member that I must… Read more
have hit a gutter to cause that damage and I would have to pay for a replacement tyre. I stated did not hit anything at all and if I did I would admit it. Coates stated that all trailers are inspected from top to bottom when returned, wheels, bearings , connections etc. This trailer would not have left the premisses in that condition. They have a check list on what to inspect and tick off. I stated that I would shop around for a replacement and took the inflated tyre to a tyre shop. The person at the shop immediately deflated the tyre as he stated it was very dangerous due to its condition. It turns out this tyre is 11 years old and is not roadworthy. 7 years is the limit for a tyre. The tyre company provided me with a letter stating the above with some other info. I produced this letter to Coates and they still wished to pursue me to pay for the replacement tyre. Ok if that's the case I will be taking this letter to the RMS and also Safe Work. What would have happened if I had a heavy load and that tyre blew out and I injured or killed someone? Hopefully that's the end of this saga. The attached photos are of the letter provided by the tyre company and a photo of the date of manufacture of the illegal unroadworthy tyre. It makes you think about all the other trailers at all their other depots??? MM.
Thank you for being amazing – Paul, You are wonderful.. what amazing service and huge hearts the people in this business have. I'm incredibly grateful for your help and service. I used a ladder hire and you all went above and beyond for my unusual situation. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Cassie
Very poor customer service – I went into Coates Hire at Cambridge to enquire about hiring a scissor lift. I explained this to the staff member present and was asked in a rude, condescending tone "And who are you?'. I couldn't believe it and simply walked out. Try one of the other local hire companies who understand that good customer service is important, they seem to have forgotten this fundamental business strategy at the Cambridge branch of Coates.
Coates Hire - yes, you can hire but don't ask them to deliver if you don't have the capacity to pick up! – I have been very kind to Coates in Burnie Tasmania in this rating as they don't even deserve a one-star rating! This is what I received back as a reply regarding my enquiry about hiring a tall ladder - (me stating in my enquiry that we do not have the capacity with our ordinary 6-cylinder sedan to pick it up from Burnie, we living in Smithton,… Read more
Tasmania, a one hour's drive each way on an open country highway) - words to the effect that the hire of the ladder is $45.69 per day and transport is $275 inc each way, so the total would be $595.69 and that if I want to organise my own transport I can.
Coates obviously must use a limousine service to do deliveries! How ridiculous! How can they even suggest such an outlandish and exorbitant price for delivery when Bunnings can deliver for $40 from Burnie to Smithton! And Allans Nursery in Launceston charges $30 from Launceston to Smithton! Wake up Coates! If you can't be bothered doing deliveries, just say so, and don't resort to writing such ludicrous contents in return emails. That being said, I will never consider using your business again - and, of course, I will tell all my friends of my experience with you and advise them of the same!
Great customer service – I hired a scaffold for domestic use. I was a bit intimidated by the idea of dealing with a big blokey impersonal company but I was completely wrong. Coates staff was friendly, helpful and easy to communicate with. The scaff was easy enough for two people to assemble and operate.
Good Customer Service – I hired a 2 man post hole digger to dig 10 x 1metre x 200mm holes to erect 10 x 2.4M posts in a flood damaged farm fence in the country. Coates quoted a good "higher price", also, they allowed me to collect the unit on Friday afternoon to enable me to start very early on Saturday morning. We managed to get 4 posts set up, no problems. On the 5th… Read more
hole the digger started to "play-up". It started turning the auger very slowly, therefore, we had to help it by crow-baring the hole so that the machine would lift the dirt out of the hole. As we progressed along to each hole to be dug, the machine operation worsened, with the result we finished up digging the last 2 holes by crow-bar and shovel. Instead of the job taking approximately 4 hours, it took until 6 pm to finish.
The next day at home I cleaned the machine and auger. On the Monday morning early, I returned it to Coates Hire Somerton.
When I explained what happened to the Manager, he apologised to me for the inconvenience. He thanked me for cleaning the machine (which wasn't hard to do) and refunded my money, apologising once again.
I would go back to them for hiring of equipment, because they provided Excellent Customer Service and accommodated my hire requirements without any fuss. Neither of us were to know that the machine was to give trouble as when we tested it there was NO SIGNS of possible troubles. It operated perfectly.
I say THANK YOU to the Manager at Somerton for his help and EXCELLENT SERVICE.
