Solid Coleman product – Quality product. Have had it set up in strong wind (awning must be folded down and secured as per instruction manual) and the tent survived. Buy larger pegs, and a reflective tarp to go over will aid in keeping cool. Show details

Not good in the wind – Have owned this tent for 2.5 years and used it half a dozen times... Last trip we took it out on the Australia day 2019 long weekend and a couple of gusts of wind on the second day snapped two fibreglass poles piercing the fly sheet and bending one of the metal poles... Completely ruined our holiday as the tent collapsed and we had no water… Read more

proofing therefore we had to pack up quickly before the rain came... 5 day holiday reduced to 1.5 days losing our money for the camp site as well. This tent is great for sheltered areas but not out in the open... Buyer beware.

TENT Poles broke on first use! – I just used the tent for the first time. 2 poles snapped on the first use. I called Coleman Australia, who said that there were unaware of any poles ever snapping for the Coleman Montana, and have apparently never ever had any complaints about the tent from anyone ever. They said that regardless, they do not provide any warranty for tent poles. Disappointed with my first Coleman tent purchase. Can't imagine I would ever want to buy one again.

Very Good Tent – Easy to erect, spacious, three separate rooms with internal zippered doors work well. Ventilation is great. Would recommend this model for those who are setting up camp for a week or so.

12 man coleman tent no good in windy conditions – We have taken the 12 man coleman camping twice now, for a week each time. First time we got wind of 40km gusts, and a pole snapped. We got a replacement pole for our second trip, and sure enough, 40km wind gusts caused the other poles to snap. Not suitable, as any week in summer will see at least one storm of 40 km wind gusts

7 Years Family of 4 Great Tent – Very easy setup and take down. We have bush camped and caravan camped and it coped well. Kids one end, gear in the middle and us at the other. Very water tight. True the smaller poles fabric connectors go first, we had one metal pole bend in very high winds, but tent like a family member and only now looking for a replacement that will stick up for room and durability.

Great all round tent plenty of room and features for the $$$ – I have owned this tent now for 5 years and have not experienced the problems some people are reporting. Don't know if it's a case of bad luck or i suspect people do not erect the tent properly and use all guys ropes especially in windy coastal areas. The floor is extremely thick definitely not thin as suggested. It is a very big tent so takes… Read more

about 30 minutes to 1 hour with 2 people to erect depending on level of experience and is a little noisy in windy conditions but you cant have your cake and eat it too. People we need to remember this is camping and not a 5 star hotel we need to enjoy it for what it is even with a little leak or a problem here most things can be rectified. Remember this is virtually a house for $500 bucks and million dollar houses get leaks too.

Excellent and can recommend for a family wishing a great quality large 3 room tent.

Solid performer – We had torrential rain and wind for 2 days straight and this baby kept us dry and stayed up. Don't listen to others we loved ours. Treat it right and claim little on warranty if it needs replacing.

Underdesigned – This tent has been used as a family tent for the past year and we are experienced campers. The poles have now snapped twice resulting in the poles piercing the flysheet which happened in mildly windy weather. Hail has now destroyed the flysheet on top of the middle room as it has to be pulled tight using the guy ropes. Unsure whether it will be replaced as it was always such a hit and miss affair with this tent.

Disappointed. Not fit for purpose – We had paid for our accommodation, tent was 3 days old, expense of 2vehicles travelling to location. Kids really excited. Tent took a while to put up. Perfect weather. Experienced campers. Tent only up about 2 hours and a very small gust of wind caused 2 fibreglass poles to snap and break, resulting in the steel pole bending and the sharp points… Read more

went through the tent and cover ripping them both. I have spoken to the supplier who says to bring it back for assessment and then the manufacturer will decide whether they will repair. I said we are not interested. It is not fit for purpose. Have spoken to Consumer affairs and will be taking it further if not refunded

OK – We took this tent camping for 9 days in very windy costal conditions, it was still standing at end but, only just. Cables in poles broke first time putting it up. It was really noisy in the wind and the the front vestibule/awning was like a big wind sail, which meant we had to have it down a lot of the time. Several tabs where guy ropes attached… Read more

pulled out. We also had a few issues getting things repaired but they did come to the party eventually. If not pitching in wind fine, lots of room and awning great when no wind. Due to NZ's windy conditions and after asking around, for size of tent we need we have gone canvas.

Disappointing – Coleman's was recommended by a good friend who has had this brand for over 10 years so we were very excited when we decide to buy the Montana 12V tent. It is very spacious and coped in the wind and has done us well over 2 years on small weekend breaks. However, this Spring we had a 3 week holiday and the tent's outer cover did not cope well at… Read more

all. Part of the outer cover has come apart at the seems, split and shrunk from, I assume, the changes in weather that occurred, which is very frustrating as it cannot be sewn or taped back together. I'm sure that tents are meant to last a bit longer than 3 years and be able to hold up to the Australian weather!

Great family tent – We have used ours twice so far. The first time was for a 2 night trip down the coast. It does take a while to put up, i think it took us a bit over an hour and we had some wind so trying to put the (sorry don't know the correct work here) cover over the top of the tent was a fun as it wanted to fill with air. We had reasonable winds both nights,… Read more

and had a lot of squeeking noises from where the cover rubs against the poles. We think part of this was due to us not having the cover placed exactly but also a bit of a design flaw. We bought some $2 seatbelt covers from kmart and when we used the tent the next time we put them on the spots that rubbed and problem solved cheaply and easily. The second time we went camping for a week. It was great, we had good weather so can't comment on storms etc, but the tent was roomy, we used on room for us, one for the kids and the centre for storage and kitchen use. We had a lot of comments on how big our tent was (took up a lot of our site), but in terms of comfort on a longer stay it was ideal. I saw in other reviews about how the window covers have to be down when it rains because of the design. We saw how this could cause leaks but didn't have any rain so can't comment further. We did expect rain the first time we used it so made sure our set up allowed the covers to be closed easily without having to move items we had stored under the veandah area. We haven't had any quality issues or concerns and at this point in time are very happy with our purchase. I will add to this review if at any stage we have problems. Good value, larger size for a family. Probably not suitable for one or two nights stays as takes to long to put up. A bit squeeky in the wind.

Great tent. 1st use – Very easy to install and take down. I had 1 practice at home, took me 1.5 hours with the Missus to read the instruction and set it up. On camping day, I just about set it up and took it down myself, when she took care of the kids. Just needed her help once, to stand up the center tent frames. Didn't time it, but it felt like up in 15 minutes and… Read more

down in 10 minutes, excluding guy lines. Looks a lot less complicated than some of the tents on the net. Just make sure you know which side you want the front awning to go, e.g. Facing front view, as the back awning is just a normal awning without the side wind protection (same as the end awnings). The tent came with lots of metal pegs, we only use 2 thirds with 3 awnings up, only bought 8 spare plastic pegs for camping on sand. The tent came with 2 long + 2 shorter tent poles, only enough for the large awning. Bought 2 pairs of tent poles, should've bought 3 pairs, for better air circulation with all awnings up. Also, bring some extra guy lines and learn taut hitch, as there seems only enough guy lines to set 2 awnings up, you can relocate redundant guy lines from the large awning to get 3 sides up. Inside, center tent have small hanging clips that can be used to hang lanterns, but we brought half a dozen more to hang things around the tent. Each tent compartment have about 40cm x 40 cm tent organisers with various size pockets. But we should've bought some camping shelves. Got this tent on store special, $15 cheaper than eBay price, the store didn't bother to unpack the box to make a display tent, as they sell like chips. Lots of room. Easy to set up. Floor feels durable. Lots of vent. Large awning with side protection helps protecting stove fire from the wind, and protect laundry from animal droppings Need more tent poles and guy lines. Rather heavy, but it is a large tent. Rather large, we had to compromise the orientation of tent/direction of wind/view/the size of available tent site. We were lucky the camp site was not heavily booked, so had a lot of tent sites to choose from.

Very disappointing! – We purchased this tent to use for a 10 day camping trip in Tasmania. We are a young family with 2 children so the space that this tent offered was very appealing. All went well until we pulled the tent down on our last day (thank goodness) the fibreglass end polls had split completely down the middle and the wires inside the centre polls had… Read more

snapped. I returned the polls to Place of purchase to be assessed by a Coleman rep and have been informed that this isn't a warranty issue. The warranty isn't worth the paper it's written on. I have been advised of the cost of replacing and repairing the damaged polls. I'm so disappointed with Coleman and I will be taking this further. For the cost of this tent I would expect more than 10 days accommodation.... The space inside. Bad warranty service

Coleman camping haven – We bought a Coleman Montana 12 cv tent, liked the YouTube video of it in training in a downpour. We live in far north Queensland, it gets hot & very wet up here. We have also travelled the Queensland coast with our tent to rather cold & wet areas. We have always stayed dry. Example camping in an Easter storm with wind & rain, lots of campers the… Read more

next day went home they were all saturated, we thankfully were bone dry! In the cold of bris, we were able to start the heater get the tent toasty warm and the kids happy. We are a family of five, we use the end rooms as bedrooms and the middle as seating food prep/cooking, nice weather we can put up annexe and enjoy seating outside. If the weather turns bad, we know we can fit all our gear inside dry, baten down the hatches so to speak, sleep the night dry and wake to enjoy our next day! Lots of pockets the store items, easy put up, all the kids can help, we setup quick, even when we are on the road , setup is quick, we have always stayed dry, easy to pickup, full length awning, only the fly gets wet and the tent wall stays dry, four doors for entry & exit options on various sites, all the airflow options even when it is pouring with rain, the light holders on the roof, extension cord zipped holes in both sides of tent, the cable holders up the walls the top middle section, floor of tent has not punctured, in the mud or rocky area When the awning is up the water could run back through the bottom of the window slots, we are use to it now, so I move my chair.

Great family camper – This is a roomy and comfortable tent that easily accommodates a family. We generally sleep in one end, use the centre as a kitchen/general area, have the girls in the other end and the boys in their own tent and this works very well. If we are just overnighting then we can all fit in and if it is wet there is ample space for playing board games… Read more

etc. Once you get the idea of how to put it up and fold it down it is easy but it can be a bit of a mission at first. We were camping in Marlborough NZ during some floods so the tent was subjected to torrential rain and it remained dry. We did break a couple of poles at Mt Cook but it was incredibly windy - too windy for this size tent so we retreated to Glentanner campground and it was fine. We like it so much we actually have one in Australia and one with our family in New Zealand for when we go over there.

If you don't mind the size then this tent will do you well. No regrets buying this tent. Roomy, easily assembled (once you know how), good air flow and shade, very waterproof, Fireglass poles can break if put up incorrectly or in extreme wind so we carry a couple of spares and some duct tape just in case.It is quite large and heavy (21kg?) folded up but it is a big tent.

OK – Good if you are camping on a perfect lawn, with no wind or rain expected for the duration of your holiday. I wish I had of bought a big old fashioned canvas tent. Love the size and lay out, very easy to put up. Internal storage pockets are good too. This is a noisy tent in the wind, the fly rubs on the poles and creaks a fair bit, not good for… Read more

children who need a day sleep! The floor of the tent is too thin and could easily puncture on rough ground, so unless you are camping on perfect flat grass with no sticks, twigs, or nuts from the tree about, I'd look at covering the floor for protection. The awning cannot be used in the rain, as it puddles at the door and drips straight into the tent. This tent blew down, all of the fibreglass poles snapped and ripped to the fly to shreds on a Northerly wind. It is a write off! I am currently waiting for a response from Coleman on the warranty. We have only used this tent twice, and if a full warranty replacement is given to us, we will be selling it immediately.

Love using it in the US! – I was so excited when I found this tent on-line, until I realized that it was only made and sold in Australia. After I got a bonus at work, I splurged on the $$$ shipping. I just could not find a tent that had this much room and this many features here in the US. The tents with "multiple rooms" were all just one big room with dividers that were… Read more

open on the top and bottom. We are only a family of three, so it seems ridiculous to want as much room as this tent has, but we absolutely love it! We use one room for the beds, and keep it screened off. The other side room has a dividing panel. We used one side for all of our bags and clothes, and used it as a place to change clothes and get dressed. The other side of the divider had a small porta-potty (esp. convenient for a toddler). This leaves the center atrium open to just have room to stand in or for kids to play, and to let the breeze flow through. We didn't worry about tracking dirt in the atrium, but were able to clean our feet before stepping into the side rooms, which is nice. Here in the US, the rain fly on most tents only covers the top half or 3/4 of the tent. We were pleased to see that this rain fly covers the entire tent, and I can say that it worked in a torrential 2 hour down-pour! Not one drop of water in the tent! We left the full awning up overnight. I read a complaint from another review that the awning leaked in the rain. We did have water pool up and then pour out in bursts, but it's because the awning doubles as a rain fly, which means it has a zipped window that would sit in front of the zippered tent window when the fly is down. When you lift it up to use as an awning, the water can pool up and then leak through the window seam area, but I wouldn't consider it a flaw. It's just a side effect of the neat idea of having the rain fly double as an awning. I will issue the disclaimer that we did not have wind, though, just rain. I am not sure how well it would all hold up in a windy storm. But the awning works fantastic for shade and should be fine in light rain. If you know rain is coming, just put the awning down (or leave it up, but don't expect everything underneath to stay dry). Having that extra open space in the atrium allowed for us to bring the chairs in when the rain came and to track mud in without affecting the sleeping and changing areas. I also loved how there were so many windows and that there were vents along the bottom half of the tent and zippered ports for extension cords (again, hard to find that level of detail here in US). My husband was able to put the tent up by himself in a reasonably short amount of time, so it isn't super hard, but it does take some effort... not sure that we would go through the trouble for just one overnight stay, but if staying for at least 2 days, it's definitely worth it. We also had the metal cable inside one of the shock cord break on first use, but you can still use the poles (snap them together). I was worried about something being wrong with the tent upon arrival since I wouldn't be able to afford sending it back for warranty repairs, but at least the poles are still functional without the cable being connected inside the shock cord. Overall, we are very pleased and would not have any problem recommending this tent. Good quality, lots of room, flexible use of space, great awning for shade, held up in rain Cable broke in one of the shock cords snapped on first use

Excellent – Excellent. Very impressed with all the options to put up awnings. Poles are good quality, as are the tent pegs, stronger than most. We love it! So grateful that Camping World in Tuggernanong, Canberra, gave us our money back and we could buy this instead of the Oztrail. ok so we got the tent, put it up first time in approx 45 mins and it was easy.… Read more

Love the design with huge rooms and you can feel the air flow when u open the lower ventilation windows. We seadoned it and were surprised to see the water beadng and almost jumping off the fly. It's big but if you are camping for over a week and have a family, you need -the space.33kg's it's heavy but if you grew up in the 60's or 70's family campingwith those big old heavy canvas tents, whats the difference?
