Concept2 RowErg Questions & Answers
Hello! Can anyone tell me how noisy the Concept 2 Model D is, say compared to an air rower in the gym?
Very slight noise, Quieter than any other rowing machine I have come across. one is 20 plus years old and it is no noisier than it ever was
Does this rower fun by a fan? Thanks...
Does this run by fan? Thanks
Yes it is, it has a flywheel.
Cheers. Also, how long is it? Thank you.
Would a product, such as Upright Go 2, which is an electronic monitor that vibrates when you slouch, PREVENT risk of damage to my back from misuse? I would get coaching to learn how to use the machine, but concerned I could accidentally damage my back by slouching due to lapses in concentration.

Just watch concept 2 tutorial on their website or youtube on how to properly use the machine. The product you mentioned seems like a good one but not sure if it works while rowing. Go to a gym and try rowing after you watch the tutorials. You can also ask gym trainers for tutorial.
Will it wake up my boarder? I would be using it in my bedroom. Between my bedroom and the boarder's bedroom there is the bathroom and a hallway. There is a door in my bedroom that leads to the bathroom and another door on the other side that matches up in its position, so sound can travel through the doors. I would be using it at about 7am (due to my work hours, there is no other option most of the time). I have in the past used an elliptical trainer and boarders have said they can hear it, but not ever complained about it. The elliptical has maximum decibels of 70. I saw a video measuring the noise of the concept 2 and it varied from 80 decibels to 100.
I previously used it in my spare bedroom next to other bedrooms and workout around 3am / 4am and I did not disturb or wake up anyone. You should visit a gym to try it and listen to it. It’s a pretty quiet machine for me.
Thanks. Great answer.
I have just purchased a second hand Genki gk-rm02 rowing machine, without knowing anything about rowing machines ( it was cheap and close to home). I now find the magnetic resistance is woeful - despite pulling the whole thing apart and getting max adjustment where I could. Question : do the magnets lose strength over time, and if so, are they replaceable?
Unfortunately you have bought very cheap and basic entry level rowing machine. Out of all the different types of rowing machines available, magnetic resistance machines offer the least on the water boat like resistance. The magnets offer less resistance than the fan/air resistance machines and tend to wear out quicker. The magnets, with some effort, can be replaced from the manufacturer but most people wouldn't bother. 2nd hand Concept 2 rowing machines are very cheap on ebay, have far better resistance and digital monitors, and are bullet proof reliable for many years.
Thanks very much for the advice - I wish I had of consulted this site before I purchased. I will certainly keeping my eye out for a concept 2 in the future.
Rockin4x4Roland hit the nail on the head, I would not buy anything other than a concept.
