Camper trailer: Not value for money – We hired a camper for a 14 day trip. Given the price and expectations on collection, we didn’t get value for money. The camper wasn’t cleaned after the last use, we were covered in red dirt after packing our gear the first time and every time after. The mattresses smelt so bad, we took our own airbeds. We ended up taking a lot of our own… Read more
equipment as numerous items were broken ie chairs, so dirty it couldn’t be used ie. cooktop, or not there and should have been ie tables. Equipment wasn’t charged ( I’m wondering if the equipment was even checked!) On its return, the company took no responsibility for any of the issues nor any resolution, compensation, acknowledgement or apology. One star for ease of towing.
Scammers – Booked vehicle yet they cancelled Booking even after communication with them Which they absolutely insisted on making contact with them They took my bond for 500 and insisted on me paying the other 500 They have previously scammed me for over 2000 in a previous booking AVOID AVOID AVOID Like the plague folks You have been warned

GREAT 4X4 HIRE EXPERIENCE IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA – Just returned from an awesome 14 day holiday to South West Western Australia in a Toyota Prado 4WD and ensuite caravan package we hired from Crikey Camper Hire in Perth. Both the car and the caravan were immaculately presented on our arrival at the Crikey Perth depot. The caravan looked huge inside the depot but the best feature was the ensuite… Read more
shower and toilet which is what we always wanted. They gave us a thorough demonstration and explained everything we needed to know in the caravan and the 4WD Land Cruiser Prado. We were a little worried about towing the caravan but the car pulled it easily and after an hour or so we got used to it. There were a couple of things we needed to call their support number as we had forgotten how to switch on the hot water system and they talked us through the control panel and we were all set. Oh! And the electric awning was really slick. Everything you needed was supplied in the caravan except I think it could do with a pizza or baking tray to heat food in the oven. There was a big fridge in the caravan and one in the car, but we hardly used the fridge in the car. We had hot weather for the entire trip and our favorite stop overs were Busselton, Albany and Esperance. We had a wonderful experience and would highly recommend Crikey Camperhire, but you need to book well in advance. We had to change our dates of travel from Victoria in order to secure the car and caravan, but it was worth it.
DO NOT BOOK WITH CRIKEY CAMPER – DO NOT BOOK WITH CRIKEY CAMPER!! We made a booking and paid in full prior to Covid lockdowns. We were unable to use the hire as the country was in lockdown. I was promised a refund. It has been over three years now and after many unanswered phone calls and email there is still no refund. Very poor communication and not a trustworthy company. Save yourself the hassle and choose any other hire company Show details
Worst hire experience ever – For years I have been renting the most varied vehicles (cars, campers, motorbikes, 4WD off-road vehicles) with various companies on my travels, this summer with Crickey I rented a 6-seater caravan with a 4WD vehicle. The worst experience ever, all kinds of problems with both the towing vehicle and the caravan: only apparent customer assistance,… Read more
causing repeated breakdowns of the vehicles, we changed our route several times as we often had to stop off at their mechanics who were always very rude and rude (MUMBYS from EXMOUTH the worst). The continuous and repeated inconveniences have also delayed our journey, causing us to lose some reservations with consequent economic damage. From the first day the water pump didn't work (toilet, shower and kitchen problems) and for over a week we suffered this handicap; after the first night, in the morning, our jeep did not start due to the failure of the batteries which turned out to be very old (due to constant inconveniences we had to change one after 500 km and after various stops and help from the kind Australian motorists), furthermore the problems with the batteries and with the electrical system not functioning perfectly caused the malfunctioning of the refrigerator and the freezer, you can imagine the consequences... The compressor for inflating the tires did not work, the hinges of the access doors to the various side compartments (water refill, toilet box, tool compartment), despite normal and careful use (opening and closing and nothing more), due to the use of unsuitable material they broke extremely easily (Crickey had the courage to make us pay for them around 500 euros, a theft and a request for compensation on defective material from the beginning). The only positive note of the rental was the good cleanliness of the vehicles, otherwise a disaster, very good at protecting their rights (they ask for the vehicles to be washed before returning them, they collect the entire deposit from the first day of rental, they immediately list the your duties, etc. etc.), much less good at remedying their serious shortcomings and their dangerous shortcomings which in some situations could have even compromised our safety. We have often been "saved" thanks to the intervention of some Australians who, seeing us in difficulty, helped us, themselves recognizing the inadequacy of our means, so much so that on some occasions they themselves telephoned Crickey to better explain the problem, receiving insults or indifference. Australia is beautiful, the Australians are kind and helpful ( ), but avoid renting with Crickey, who are good at presenting their site, but dishonest in their profession. As evidence of the above, I have all the photos of the various equipment affected by the breakdowns where the non-existent care of the rental vehicles is clearly visible. I forgot, the deposit was unfairly deducted due to the breakage of the hinges of the above-mentioned doors, the return was requested several times and refunded approximately 2 months after the end of the rental, no apologies were presented for the numerous inconveniences and economic damages (3 campsites paid for but not used due to schedule delay). Crickey…no thanks!!
Don't use this company! – Booked and fully paid prior to Covid, promised of a refund, never happened so rebooked but slightly different trip which resulted in a considerable credit refund which they promised in writing. 4 months later and many emails still no refund. Poor communication and quite frankly a scam considering we havent been paid! Save yourself the grief and chose a company with better customer service and transparency. Show details
Outstanding – Picked up 200 series and camper trailer in Darwin and a thorough initiation was offered (I could have probably taken more in if I wasn't so excited). Called Crikey for minor assistance (mainly where things are or how to do something) on several occasions and was always aided promptly. Traveled the Gibb River Road and dropped off in Broome 20 days… Read more

Drop off after cleaning vehicle was prompt and friendly
Crikey surpassed their Google reviews with flying colours and I for one will recommend them and indeed use them again.
Thanks, Criey for a wonderful experience.
Terrible service – So much went wrong with our camper trailer and no one picked up the emergency number ever. Fridge broke on remote area lost all our perishable food. On return they expect you to have fully cleaned the vehicle which is very hard and they don’t even know where a car cleaning place is nearby. No other company would expect you to return a car clean.… Read more
Our indicators were broken from the start and only hazard lights flashed the whole 10 days. Terrible service and very disorganised really ruined our trip
Unreliable organisation – We rented through a travel agency in our country a car and campertrailer from Crickey to travel through West Austalia. We didn't get it if we didn't pay $ 6.000 bond immediately. Normally you just give your creditcard but that wasn't enough, you have to pay or it's a no go. There were so many defects on the road with this trailer, we had to visit… Read more
a mechanic 5 or 6 times. They send us away with a bad chokebreaker witch broke after 100 km on The Gibb River Road. The mechanic, which we visited in Broome after a bush-fix at Ellenbraye station, told us it was already bad when we got the trailer. Crickey denies this.
When we returned the trailer and the car we had to bring it back clean as we got it. We got an address which exist twice in Perth.. so we couldn't find it. After more than an hour searching we gave up, we had to catch a flight. We didn't have good feeling about getting our bond back and when we came home we were right. We didn't get our whole bond back. This company charged us:
- $ 180 (!) administration costs - rediculous high! - $ 300 (!) cleaning costs - also rediculous high! - we had a crack in our window screen. There were several cracks and the one we made cost us a new window: $ 400. - When we returned the car and trailer they checked the vehicles and wrote down the damage. There was NO damage on the door from the trailer but suddenly when we were in our country again, they told us we caused the damage and had to pay. They just made this up!! You cannot blame afterwards that something is broken while you didn't notice it when we were there. Anybody could have break it after we left!! This is really really rediculous, they charched us $220 for that.
They just keep it from your bond. You have to wait for 4 or 5 weeks to even get (the rest of) the money and you can't do anything about it. If you try to get it back by your creditcard company you have a problem with Australia and can't go back into the country.
My advice: never ever rent from this company. It was a great trip, we really love Australia, but we have a really nasty aftertaste about everything that happened with this Crickey company and the way they treat you. Do yourself a favour and search a reliable company, check reviews (we unfortunately did it too late, they have so many negative reviews on Facegbook, wish we knew that before booking) and ALWAYS make video's. From the beginning when you get the car/trailer and when your return it. It will prevent a lot of trouble.
The perfect journey! – We had planned our trip a year in advance and then already booked the 4WD & Safari Camper Package at Crikey Campers, which gave us a considerable discount. From 5 August to 5 November 2019, we covered over 15,000 kilometres in Western Australia, Northern Territory and North Queensland (see www.polennikki.com) with the fantastic Toyota Landcruiser… Read more
200 and the indestructible Camprite camper trailer. Setting up and breaking down the camper trailer took, after a few days, an average of only 7 minutes. There were some small problems with parts of the tent or with the equipment, but after a phone call to Crikey in Perth they were solved immediately. One time we were helped by their representative in Broome, another time we bought a new gas stove that afterwards was fully refunded by Crikey. Landcruiser and trailer were 'anonymous', without publicity or logos from Crikey Campers. But we wouldn't have objected to promoting them, because both 4WD and trailer as well as the service fully met our expectations.
Bad review before we even pick up the equipment. Ripped off and abused – Wanting to book a van from Saturday and return the following Sunday (9 days)we were charged for 10 days. Crikey are closed on Sunday so you have to bring it back on the Monday and be charged for the full day or pay a special levy of $110 and per-arrange a time before 5 pm on Sunday. OK so we pay for the 10 days for both the van and the car. But… Read more
when we ask if we can arrange pick up and or the training on the Friday last thing so that we can start our journey earlier than 10am on the Saturday (allow 1 hour to get the run down on the equipment) we are told we can...but that is yet another day hire rate for the van and car!
No phone calls or emails with [name removed] got us anywhere but more dissatisfied. If it wasn't too late I would cancel and find a better company to deal with.
Nasty start to our trip. Having to leave late morning, still to pack the vehicle, long drive and likely arriving after hours at our destination. Very kind of you Crikey. No car hire company would ever provide such a poor service and stay in business. Will never deal with Crikey again.
Bad experience – I did a relocation with crikey camper from darwin to broome (07/11/17), on the road we accidentally broked the rear stair of the camper and we did a little bump on the rear passenger side, I was so worried about my money because I had to put 2000AUD for the insurance, they had to spend around 1 month to repair the car and many times the didn't… Read more
answer my emails because I was really worried about my money, I'm a backpacker and is not easy for me spend 2000aud in something. By the way the car had some bumps before to rent it but to fix my bump they spend 1400 Aud!!!! and 300aud more for the stair, and they told me that because I sent thousands of emails because I didn't know anything about money in a long time. They replaced everything!!! to fix my bump ...and why?? I know that they have answer for everything because you have to sign a paper before to rent the car but sorry I don't think that this is fair because the car had some bumps before and you can drive the car anyway but to repair my bump they had to replace everything!!! and that cost 1900aud. I'm desperate, I can't do anything I for sure that I never thought that's a little bumps is going to cost me 1400aud.
It is always regrettable to make a claim… Read more (+2 replies)
Very disappointed! – We booked a caravan and after an hour of going through how everything worked and was used, they connected an electrical cable to ensure both caravan and car brakes worked together. We were told there was a fault with our brakes and we could not take the caravan. We took the car to another reputable autospark who tested our brakes with the same… Read more
type of cable, found no fault and gave us written confirmation there was no fault with our car. Despite this, Crikey Camper Hire refused to hire us the caravan, nor return any of our $700 fully paid up hire fee. We contacted the Department of Commerce who suggested both parties lose 50% but Crikey Hire were immovable and kept all our money, stating we made no attempt to return for the caravan, which was absolutely untrue.
We understand about safety issues, and certainly would not want anything unsafe, but this was not the case. A little bit of empathy displaying true customer service would have gone a long way, not only to us using them again, but recommending them to all our friends. Please go elsewhere to avoid poor customer service and losing money.
While it is disappointing this hire could not… Read more

Happy Camper ! – - We hired a LC GX Wagon & Camprite Trailer for just over 2 weeks. Both were immaculate when we received them and the handover / training by Tom & Brigit in Darwin was splendid. - Both (car & trailer) were really well equipped - no skimping - good quality kit - robust, rugged, reliable, easy to use & pretty fast to setup. - Trailer (Camprite)… Read more
handled like a dream - the designers have set it up so it's nicely balanced, exactly the same wheels, tyres & track as the LC GX - the whole kit handled the Gibb, Mitchel, Drysdale and much more with not even a whimper !
- Service was 2nd to none - when we shredded a tyre (Trailer) just out of El Questro we called them to ask their advice on replacement (new, 2nd hand, brand etc ) - they were great, spoke direct to the tyre guy ("Over The Range") - arranged it & paid for it - no hassles - no questions - no accusations. Awesome !
They may not be the cheapest out there (but hey - generally - you get what you pay for) but, you do get a premium product, quality service and no hassles.
Super Impressed.
Just Perfect -Highly Recommend – We hired from these guys to go all around WA SW and they were brilliant - highly recommend them. We hired a 4WD and Expanda van. We had the best holiday if our life and their support was amazing! Can't recommend then enough!
Bond deposit ,,,,beware! – Having recently hired from Crikey camper hire and also having no issues with the return of the trailer. In fact it was returned a couple of days early!....and it was washed and vacuumed fastidiously) The bond was supposed to be refunded after 2 weeks from the return of the trailer( giving them, presumably, time to check the condition of the… Read more
trailer).
However, the bond refund was not transferred until a further 3 weeks.... a total in all of 5 weeks after the trailer was returned!
This refund came only after several phone calls were made, .....causing a lot of angst and bank charges!
Hidden charges – Crikey campers have a hidden administration fee, which you discover when you deposit is not returned fully. We were given verbal assurance that if we cancelled any booking before 28days the full deposit would be refunded (this is what is also stated in there T&C's on-line). However a 10% charge suddenly disappears when you check your statement. Be wary! Lack of disclosure.
