experience with the Fraud Team, and I can't thank them enough for doing what I doubt the major banks would have bothered with, when it comes to the security of my funds. They helped me recover the funds within a week, following an incident that occurred more than two months prior.
Looking back on all my experiences with DB, I have always felt they maintain positive control of an issue and keep me informed. Great work!
I had problem joining online ao I called the branch in WA and Chere answered my call. She emailed me the form not long after we hang up. The account was set up the next day. They may have monthly quota or something that I dont know but i was refused a credit card. I have over 50k in savings for over 2 years, stable job in a big company for many years, submitted them salary slips, bank statements for over 1 year, 2 years of ATO tax summary, 0 liability, Merc 80k car fully paid, no other credit card. The lady kept asking for more documents for over 4 weeks till i give up. What a waste time! Show details
And the breathtaking errors continue! Cannot wait to be rid of my accounts. Over 30 years a customer- no more! Processes are ancient - still relying on mailing contracts back and forth - no electronic signatures. Mistake, after mistake!

time.. Rang to verify it all EXPLAINING EXACTLY WHAT I DID, told regional manager will call me back . At which time SHE CANCELLED EVERYTHING AND CLOSED MY WIFE'S ONLINE ACCESS TO HER ACCOUNT.. said its security issue.. This trash has been ongoing over the years.. I'M REINVESTING IN THE SAME PERSONS NAME FOR HEAVEN SAKE. not taking anything. Now I have to get my malaysian wife to try to sort it all out . Her English ain't great.
Follow-up · After they said back in Feb they would give me 300k at 5.1% for 8 month, they sorted me over 200 dollars on the final interest payments ..took multiple efforts and 2 weeks to finally get them to deliver what they promised me..
Absolutely the BEST Bank ever ! Customer service exceeds all expectation. They go over and above to deliver quality products & service and their help lines are within Australia which makes being understood a simple matter. I highly recommend this safest of banks. Amazing app and great bank i have had no issues at all and recently got approved for a credit card and it was a big process but i had an amazing person go through everything with me and made the process of being approved less stressful and kept me updated every step of the way. I have switch all my banking to Defence Bank and i am really confident if i have any issues they will be able to resolve them with patients. Show details
Absolutely the worst bank I have ever dealt with. Paid credit card balance and they say it was not recieved even though I have electronic receipt from my bank.Staff are totally useless.
A little disappointed. Usually, I have had no problems with DB. In fact, I too was an 'enlistee' from kapooka days in 2001. I wanted to test the system first so I sent a very small amount just to make sure the process ran smoothly (see my receipt and correspondence in the attached). After 5 days, nothing came through the other end. So I enquired. They responded quickly and made mention of the Vic Labor Day and with some countries it takes up to 15 days (what?). I contacted the foreign bank and they said maximum 5 days.
Now, its been up to 21 days and I have finally found out why.
Defence Bank exports these services to third parties. In fact, their Home Loans, Car Loans etc etc, are all exported to third parties (or mostly anyways). They are essentially 'middle men' in the transaction, meaning if there ever is an issue, it means that you must contact Defence Bank (DB), who then contacts the third-party bank, who then replies (after several days), to which you get a reply from DB about the situation. I want you all to consider this as when a bank involves 'third parties'; it means the fees are higher, the interest rates are higher and the customer relations become strained.
The biggest issue over the last three weeks is that DB or this 3rd Party are not sending me a record receipt of the money being sent. They send snippets of emails that they've had with the 3rd party about the situation but they will not send me the SWIFT MT103 international transfer form so that I can send to this overseas bank as proof that the transaction has taken place. Why is this the case? Its been 21 days and you would think that sending me this form (I am the client) would resolve this issue.
DB for international transfers uses a company called 'Convera'. Now, when I first sent the money, a receipt from DB came through straight away (like all of our transactions). What I found interesting was that this receipt listed 'Western Union' with a reciept number. So after a few days of getting nowhere with DB, I contacted Western Union and told them the receipt number, along with the time and my name etc. No record was ever lodged. I even showed them my DB receipt saying here is the number. Nothing on their database. So, I went back to DB only to be told that Convera is a third party to Western Union with its own tracking numbers etc etc. What? It is not adding up.
So, as DB seem to be taking the back step in getting this money issue sorted, I decided to be proactive and write this review and perhaps (with evidence), they might take matters more seriously for others who use their services.
Disgusting – Lies, lies and more lies. My account been hacked by 3 known persons who made up bull dust scam accusations which Defence bank believes with absolutely no proof or evidence. Have since organised all funds to be removed from all my accounts including superannuation and will seek an alternative. They won’t admit that their security sucks but they allow hackers into your account and then try lie about it to try save their butts.
DO BETTER!!! – Never consistent when verifying you. One was happy with my member number, name, address, and date of birth. Another wanted the above, sent a text to verify, and wanted my verbal password, which I haven't used for years! She stopped helping me until I remembered the verbal password! sheets, and made my bed before they answered! I'm closing my 4 accounts after 17 years. It's not worth the attitude or hassle. I just wanted to know why a transfer didn't go through, and I was told there were 2 Osko outages! I dont think so. Absolutely useless!
Poor service – Goodluck to phoning them - most of the time you are asked to leave a message because they don’t have enough operators. No returned phone call from left messages either. High interest rates also if you are looking for DHOAS loan go to nab

Think for yourself – Chances are you’ve just got to Kapooka or Canberra and you’ve just had a brief with one of the two “defence” credit unions! Don’t sign up to them!!! They’re not worried about your best Interest. They’re not aligned with defence in a way that makes them better to support you. They will smash you with fees upon fees. Defence Bank, where Greed replaces conscience – When we setup our loans last year, conversations with Defence Bank staff led me to believe I was receiving an Offset account. account for something else. Not at any stage did Defence Bank mention anything while charging me interest on the full loan amount while that money was sitting in a pointless redraw account. Even though they no doubt invested my money, they have refused to reimburse us around $8k in interest we paid; stating it's my fault. It may be, however in all good conscience, they have double dipped, lost nothing, yet refuse to reimburse that interest. Greed has no conscience, and Defence Bank have shown they are ruthlessly money greedy. I'll be transferring my loans to another lender shortly and Karma can have its way with them.
Shocking Service – I applied for a loan to have all my banking in one place. Totally understand each bank has their criteria and understood if it was approved or declined, however the staff I dealt with seemed to think they worked for the ATO or Defence Security or something , they decided to conduct an investigation and witch hunt and made a number of insinuations… Read more
re my savings - There is clear history of regular savings by the way. I've been working in the Defence sector for over 20 years , professional and high level defence clearance. Seems this wasn't good enough for these staff - I was treated like a child.. Goodbye Defence bank and good riddance
