Your product is extremely solid. I am not happy your business is closed. I hope you come back. I cant retract the hose and can't get help about it now. It won't pull back further. I pulled the hose out too far and won't retract. I am unable to get… Read more · 3
it repaired now. Please come back ! solid product. The reel spring is very solid and retracts correctly.
Follow-up · I managed to try and pull the hose back again and it started retracting.
Delrico and Macnaught hose reels three years on. In Nov 2022 I set out to purchase two 25m retractable Garden hose reels (one for the front yard and one for the back) – preferably Australian made (but not at any price!). However, the only Aussie made ones I could find was the AK Reels (too short at 20m) and the Macnaught Retracta R3. Other Aussie… Read more
companies get their gear made in China to their specifications. I considered Hozelock, Gardena, Holman, Hoselink, Delrico, AK Reels, Aussie hoses and Macnaught. Hoselink had many admirable characteristics like the optional cover, and are popular based on the number of reviews, but I decided to go with the Macnaught (Retracta R3 25m 0.5inch 150psi) and the Delrico (25m Retractable Hose Reel with SRS (Slow Return System) - Standard Reel), based partly on reported durability. I mention the cover, as UV sun damage to the plastic housing is inevitable, so providing a cheap optional cover (e.g., made from 90% shadecloth or the material in swimming Rashies) would be a desirable addition that companies should consider (I ended up using a Rashie – perhaps they could be marketed as ‘Rashies for Reels’?). I bought the Macnaught from the local Sydney Tools for $355 and the Delrico cost $265 with $15 postage (total $280). The Australian-made one therefore cost about 26% more – ouch! The Delrico was delivered within 2 days (to country NSW) with a minimum of assembly needed, and even came with its own masonry drill bit and screws for mounting the unit on a wall! It had good quality brass fixtures with a travelling arm inside the reel to minimize the chance of the hose bunching when it retracts (not a feature on the Macnaught I purchased). The UV resistant colorbond option for the Delrico was not available for some reason when I made my purchase online. I liked the fact that the Delrico website gave details about the quality construction of the unit. By comparison, the Macnaught website was a bit confusing as they have multiple hoses (air, oil, water etc) and an optional proprietary mechanism for controlling the speed of the hose return. The actual Macnaught reel seemed not as slick in appearance as the Delrico but had a high-quality build – perhaps not as much thought has been given to presentation, and it was a little more involved to assemble, with a plastic nozzle, unlike the Delrico, that admittedly was good quality and felt very nice in the hand. I had to purchase 4 stainless steel screws and rawl plugs to attach the galvanized iron bracket to my brick wall (I live near the coast, so rust is an issue). It possibly also needed at least one Dyna bolt, but I would have had to drill a hole in the bracket for that (the Delrico had a plastic bracket with holes for Dyna bolts already included – total 6 holes). The hose on the Macnaught did not appear to have a kink rating but with a retractable hose this may not be so important. Both reels had a hole in the mounting pin that a padlock could be attached – an important feature for me, but some websites do not even mention it (I suppose you could drill your own hole). The Delrico needs to be returned to the manufacturer if any faults arise, whereas the Macnaught comes with a lot of instructions for fixing various problems if they arise. As I am reasonably handy and can afford it, both of these options are fine by me. 22 Feb 2023. I notice that the hose in the Macnaught now has a bulge near where it connects with the nozzle (see image). I’ve never encountered this with a garden hose, but the hose did seem rather soft (weak?) to begin with. Perhaps my water pressure is too high? The Delrico is operating problem-free so far although I have noticed from the start that the minor adjustment on the nozzle with a plus and minus sign that is supposed to limit the flow rate of the water doesn’t work (I have since learned that this is a generic place-holder-non-functional feature – as far as I can tell, Delrico does not make that readily known). The nozzles on the two units also give a different watering experience. The Macnaught has a rose that offers a variety of different actions, some useful and some pretty useless for me (e.g., the misting option). The Delrico nozzle has a twist top style that allows you to vary the diameter of the circle of water. After a while using this nozzle, it can feel a bit limited. Also, sometimes you just want to fill a bucket or watering can, without a spay action, but this issue affects both models. The Delrico, so far, feels the more polished unit. 10 Aug 2023. My Delrico has lost its mojo! I had it at near full extension and was returning the hose when the unit made a noise as the spring de-tensioned, now I cannot get the hose back in the casing and I have to find a box big enough to post it to get fixed – very annoying! Delrico provides a 3-year warranty and a system whereby I have to purchase a freight voucher for $35 from their website, I box the reel up and send it, they fix it and post it back. It was working very well until now. My Macnaught has not seen as much action but chugs along with no problems, except …. the bulge in the hose reported earlier has since ruptured and I had to pare back the end, otherwise it is going ok. A rachet in the casing makes a loud clicking noise by design when you pull the hose out – no stealth watering possible! It sometimes needs several goes to get the hose back in the casing as, unlike the Delrico, there is no guide to layer the hose neatly back in the case, thereby avoiding bunching of the hose. But I guess there is less to go wrong, and I worry that if there is dirt on the hose that could eventually damage or interfere with the guide in the Delrico. Also, if the tension needs adjustment on the Macnaught, the instructions indicate that I can have a go at fixing that, which may save me from having to posting it off to get professional attention. 12 Dec 2025. The Delrico was repaired in a fairly painless postal operation. Both reels are going well. No more bulging of the hose on the Macnaught is visible. I suspect my water pressure was at fault (since rectified). I have gone through a couple of rashie reel protectors – I pick them up at the op shop – but it would be nice if the manufacturers supplied a better fitting one.
Bought two hose reels. The retractable mechanism failed in one just outside the warranty. Has also weathered badly. Sent two emails to the company but did not receive a reply.
Poor Quality – Good at first. after about 6 months the hose does not completely return into the unit. You have to replace the o rings regularly to stop the leaks. After two years the outside body is really starting to break down from the sun. The hose itself is rubbish and keeps kinking, very frustrating. Not a long term product. Delrico say that you can return… Read more
the product for repairs at your own expense. After wasting my money on two of these, I purchased a Macnaught 25m. Chalk and cheese. Do not buy Delricho.

Nozzle breaks frequently – Have had for 3 years. The nozzle broke 18 months in, bought a new one, it broke 18 months in. Emailed to ask about the warranty & no reply
Still works – No leaks. Light usage and still retracts strongly. The reel cover is sun damaged but that's the point of it right to protect the hose underneath Show details
Although a good unit, unhelpful staff – Although happy with this 28m unit, Delrico staff were extremely unhelpful/rude when enquiring about a second unit (one for the front yard). Show details
Best on the market, a joy to use, worth every cent, You can't beat Quality – Quality and value for money, reliable, fantastic product, would happily and confidently recommend to anyone who is looking for a garden hose reel , the fact that they have brass fittings generates product confidence
We have seven of these - the later ones are better. Service/attitude is terrible – We have seven of these in different lengths. They looked lovely on arrival but have weathered terribly. We concreted 90x90 square metal posts in the ground and painted them to match the fences and mounted all of the reels. We are mature people and the hoses are for general garden use. Having so many they don't get a lot of use but 4 out of seven… Read more
have failed (both in and out of warranty). The last one to fail was the shortest one. It took a full removal of the entire hose (every time) to get it to retract and sort of wobbled. One day it may a terrible cracking noise and stopped working. My husband opened it and found a plastic spindle - in two pieces - in the bottom of the case. I contacted Delrico and after a lot of hassle, they agreed to send me a new plastic spindle for $40. Oh great (I thought) but when the part arrived there was a very nasty note inside (handwritten) saying "this part never breaks you must have abused it". The only reason I am on this site today is I am looking to buy a replacement for yet another Delrico that has stopped rewinding. I'll never contact them again so I am looking for a better brand based on reviews.
I think this comment says everything about your company and its attitude to its customers. My… Read more
Good to begin with – Bought this on the basis of being trouble free. It was to begin with but then it never could quite finish retracting the last bit of the hose, and then each time it was leaving a longer and longer bit out to the point of it not being practicable. What I do know was that it if you have a go in trying to rectify said problem, Delrico won’t provide… Read more
you with a technical diagram for you to see what you might be able to do. They want you to get it fixed by them. Sure let’s spend more money on having it shipped and then repaired ( at your cost if out of warranty) .
Excuse me! I never “abused” anyone and as the contact was made some years ago cannot believe you… Read more
This new reel replaced one that had gone grey, quite some years old – As we already have one for the back yard needed to replace the front yard one, old and not working properly, you all know how that is. Purchased another brand from a well known hardware store, hose delaminated within fifteen minutes of first use, along its length, failure and returned. Obviously happy with the new Delrico replacement, now front and back. Spent well no more cheap rubbish for us. Would highly recommend Delrico. Show details
Reliable and lasts the distance – I required reliable retractable hoses for my large gardens and have only just replaced them all after 15 yrs continuous use. Sold the property with hoses still intact and working well. Recently bought 4 more retractable Delrico hoses for our new house and wouldn’t go past them. Well worth the money. Show details
All bling and no zing – Fittings look good but leak badly Retract / hold has a mind of its own sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't Difficult to get to fully retract as hose jams and won't go any further

2 Year Review – Bought the 28m hose reel 2 years ago for my elderly parents based on Choice Review and the slow return mechanism. No point in reviewing back then as all new things work usually. Good news is that 2 years later the hose and mechanism have been faultless. Very pleased and would buy again. Also, as another reviewer noted, the diameter of the hose seems a bit larger than the cheap Chinese ones you can get from Bunnings. So waterflow is very fast.
Forget it they're rubbish – I bought three of their retractable hose reels one still retracts after a couple of years the brass fittings fail as do the rubber grips on the fittings, I tried to phone the company on a few occasions only to get a message service and not once have they phoned back, they have a one two warranty once you've got it its too late, We thought that… Read more
with the expensive price we'd have reliability and service crap is what we got!!! You can do far better buying from your local hardware store for half the price that way if they do fail you haven't done your hard earned savings
Very disappointing – After purchasing our hose reel it had to be returned soon after due to the hose not retracting. It is now doing so again and leaking badly from the fittings. Expect more from an expensive item but unfortunately we're now out of warranty so guess that's that!
Great product! – Having used one for the backyard for the past 10+years, and it being very reliable, have purchased another for the front yard. Very happy with the durability of the product and easy handling. Happy customer.
Returning Customer – We have a large backgarden. Purchased our first Delrico more than 10 years ago and it's still going strong with almost daily use. Purchasing another one today for the front. Product has been updated since we purchased our first. This unit has a thicker hose and brass fittings when compared to other major brands that are a similar price. … Read more
Service was friendly and professional.
Couldn't go past them. Would recommend to family and friends. Looking forward to another 10 years of use.
Failed just out of warranty period – THESE DO NOT LAST. Paid good money for 2 of these based on a “shire” recommendation. After two years holding and retraction is hit and miss. Hose is ruptured inside one of the reels. The housing is faded and trim has come away. Emailed Deleico for repair instructions with NO response! . Given the price you would be better off buying a name brand… Read more
at BUNNINGS. Footnote. 3 months later no communication from Delrico. Pulled them down and thrown them away. Rip off
Same same – After researching the product and paying for what I thought was a premium product I was expecting high performance. The reality after 2 years is that it’s the same as any other product out there. The casing has markedly faded and become brittle and discoloured. The hose retracts sometimes and at others not all the way in. The brass fittings are… Read more
good and the hose has no leaks or dings. The most dissatisfaction comes from the appearance of the casing - old and weathered looking in just over 2 years although it’s located on the south side of a wall and not in sun all the time....cheaper to get something that costs less and replace every couple of years...which I will be doing next time
No better than any other hose – Delrico is more expensive than other brands. Casing has become brittle from the sun, hose will not retract correctly and the brass nozle broke soon after being purchased. Will be buying a cheaper brand, with the same warranty.
Friendly service and great product – Friendly service and great product . Repair completed in one day just prior to Xmas. I have 4 of their products, I would recommend this product snd they work very well

Disappointing quality – Bought this a few years ago. Hose retracts sometimes not always so I often have a few metres of hose that I can't get back in. Fittings also leak badly.
Better than ever – Have two old Delrico systems and three old Hozelock (not Hoselink) ones. Bought the Delricos 9 years ago on the basis of a Choice report and the fact I wanted a beige colour reel to match the pool tiles (Hozelock was dark green). All are still doing well mechanically but showing their age and I decided to update. The Hozelock ones have been… Read more
excellent, except the green plastic discoloured quickly, but recent Productreview reports suggest the new ones are not as good. Looked at Hoselink, but a few niggles and they are not compatible with my existing systems (different bracket, smaller post, 20 mm v Delrico and Hozelock 25 mm). Looked again at Delrico, the latest ones look good, Delrico confirmed the new reels fit my old brackets and so purchased two, though I opted to use the newer design brackets (Delrico even included the correct size masonry drill bit).
Did not think a hose reel could have so many improvements, the old Delrico ones were good, but the new ones are absolutely superb; the hose is very thick and the fittings top quality and easy to adjust. Very smooth and absolutely fantastic, and they also fit on my old Hozelock brackets if needed, when I change these. Thoroughly recommend the Delrico product, company and service.
Quality product from a great company – After trying most brands of hose reels and having little success I stumbled across Delrico. Unbelievable quality, beautifully built and engineered. They don't advertise heavily I think they rely on word of mouth. If you're looking for a bargain forget it however if you want to pay a reasonable price and get something that will last for years look no further!
Exceeded my expectations – I bought two longer reels in the colour of my choice. I am impressed with their robustness and the quality of the hose and fittings. It's early days but I am confident this product exceeds the robustness of those I have seen available in retail outlets. If I don't write another review contradicting this one you will know I am still happy Also thanks to the product review site, I used it a lot in kitting out our new home Judi☺️
Two 28 Met hose reels – Hose reels are the best quality .The best hose and reel I have ever had . Very quick service They came in 2 days . All fittings are the best of quality
What a difference in Quality – Bought a Delrico online on recommendation from friends. It arrived promptly. What a difference in quality. For a hose real it really is quite attractive. Husband love the way it locks and retracts. Would recommend to others as it was to me.
