Dettol Power & Pure Multipurpose

Awful smellling – Used it for 3 weeks in toilet bathroom.. absolutely stunk that I had to hold my breath to walk in there. I like dettol but this was so so awful...

Ruined my bench top, never again! – I recently purchased the Dettol Power and Pure Multi-Purpose Spray for home. The back of the product says it is suitable for kitchen work surfaces and food preparation services. It also mentions the surfaces it is not suitable, nowhere does it indicate that you cannot use it on laminate benchtops. I recently used this on the right corner of my food preparation/kitchen work surface only to find it has bleached the surface and left a massive white stain. The mark in itself would be at least 30cm in width and is on a part of the bench that you wouldn't put say a kettle or microwave on, so is extremely noticeable!

My partner and I have only just recently bought our first home and finished renovating so now having a wrecked benchtop was far from perfect. We contacted Dettol on 21st July 2014 in regards to this complaint. I then sent a follow up email after no reply was given on Sept 9. Dettol replied back 10th Sept stating they shall investigate. Sept 23 they tell me there is no bleach agent in product. I emailed them back attaching their own MSDS (chemical list) which states there is. They get back to me 1 Oct requesting more info, I reply 2nd Oct warning consumer affairs if no reply. They then do not reply. Consumer Affairs advised they were unable to reach Dettol, so court case required. Looked at costs, not ideal.

All in all I had had quotes done which say it will cost a few hundred dollars to apply a quick fix over the bench. To get it fully fixed a few thousand. So not fair and will never purchase Dettol again!
