Does this work, Yes it does. The build quality is absolute garbage, with brittle plastics, tiny fragile plastic triggers (that you can get aftermarket ones on ebay) and what killed mine, a bit of moisture in a washable filter and that's what bricked my $1000 stick vac am I ever going to get another Dyson.... The perfect quick cleanup – I love this vacuum cleaner so easy to use & quick to recharge. I particularly like the fact I can use the boost button for pet hair We also have carpet & polished floor boards & is suitable for both as previously other vacuums scratched the floor boards. The only thing is you have to keep your finger on the button to keep it going but other then that Iam very happy Show details

The poor design and weak components of the Dyson v10 animal vacuum – This is a good vacuum when it’s working. Its design is really flawed. As you see it’s designed for animal hair we own a husky and when this unit works it does remove the fur. That shed I have found that where the air enters the storage chamber it’s passed a right angle to enter. That become a choke point if there is a rush of fur sucked up or some… Read more

other larger item then the for and detritus backs up so needs manual clearing. As an electrical/ electronic technician I am more than qualified to repair this unit recently the trigger mechanism started needing to be pulled harder and harder so I stripped down the unit and found the most fragile mechanism I have ever seen to operate the switch I can show it below both as a new unit and my unit broken. The thing is I had to strip the unit down to 23 separate parts to access and remove the switch. Not exactly for your home handy man. For the money paid for this unit I expect better design and more robust design. I will let you make your own mind. Would I buy another of these , honestly, maybe not.

Not durable on any level – In the two year three months that I’ve used this vacuum I’ve had numerous issues. The battery died within the first year, which was replaced for free. Since then I count three different places where the vacuum has broken (when emptying, the part that holds dirt comes completely off, I had to apply tape to hold the roller in place on the cleaning… Read more

attachment, and the red button that attaches the shaft to the base broke so every time I detach to empty I have to be careful not to lose the spring so I can carefully put it back together again). After all this, the red trigger you push to make it run has depressed into the vacuum quite a bit. I now have to press the button as hard as I can to get it going, just to have it stall, until I regrip and press as hard as I can again- not ideal for my arthritic hands. I may throw this $700 vacuum in the trash.

Disappointed – I have had Dyson corded vacuums and loved them especially the DC 65. When the V10 Animal came out my DC 65 was not performing at its best as is was old. I have always rated Dyson 10/10 the V10 is lucky to get 2/10, when emptying it I find it won't open then suddenly it falls off usually in the bin. The filter cuts in and out even though I wash… Read more

it every week, I now have bought a new DC65 but it will be my last Dyson. Trying to get through to customer service is like calling centrelink so I emailed 3 times then got a response saying my machine was not registered. What rubbish I always do it straight away , then an email saying our phone lines are free now on the day I should have been at work but I received a call saying my husband had collapsed and was in an ambulance on the way to hospital. All I can say is I would never have thought Dyson could make such a disappointing machine. Today 28/11/19 I starting using my V10 is what happened , now I have spent nearly a thousand dollars on this .

Great product. Terrible customer service after damaging my rug – I purchased a V10 a few weeks ago. It’s a great vacuum cleaner however, it pulled threads on my rug. Unfortunately the damage is really noticeable. I contacted Dyson immediately and provided them with all the information they requested including the Nick Scali rug manufacturers cleaning instructions, receipts, photos, etc. Dyson emailed me back… Read more

today with this response:

We have referred these photos to our technicians who have advised they would be unable to advise how this damage has occurred to your rug while using the Dyson V10 vacuum. We have also looked globally and cannot see any reports of similar issues like this occurring elsewhere. As the particular part you advise has caused this damage should not come in contact with the floor or floor covering during use. Please note we have sent as a goodwill gesture a replacement Soft Roller Cleaner Head, which we believe should be more suitable for your rug. However we would recommend as the Soft Roller Head still does contain a motorised brushbar to get further advice from Nick Scali in regards to the suitability of this head for your rug. As you have gone against the manufacturers advise on what should be used on the rug (as they clearly advise to use a suction only vacuum or head that the brushbar can be raised during vacuuming) by using the Dyson V10 which does have a motorised brushbar that cannot be raised, we would be unable to provide you with any type of compensation for this matter.

Best wishes, [Name Removed]| Dyson Customer Care

I am disappointed by Dysons response for the following reasons: 1. I can easily replicate the damage caused by their pipe at the base near the ball of the V10 head and I’m not a Dyson technician. They’re essentially calling me a liar. Or they didn’t even engage a technician.

2. I want to make very clear that I stated on a number of occasions throughout my communications with Dyson that it was not the motorized roller in the head of the vacuum cleaner that caused damage. Instead it was the plastic pipe at the bottom (see attached pics which I sent Dyson) which caught my rug pile. Therefore Dyson's goodwill gesture of sending a soft roller cleaning head is irrelevant.

This rug is approximately 1.5 years old. I’m not seeking compensation to replace the entire rug and I made that clear to Dyson. They are hesitant to accept any responsibility for their poorly designed product. Has anyone else experienced a similar issue which has caused damaged to their flooring? I’d love to hear from you.

Updated review – Hi! So I thought I would post and update, 1) when using and the battery runs dead, wait a while before putting on charge if you can, otherwise it battery is on the “warmer side” and may reduce battery life 2) the Motörhead, this works exceptionally well and picks up dirty, sand, nicely 3) when not using the Motörhead, the suction isn’t as… Read more

powerful it does the job, but not so powerful as a corded vacuum cleaner

4) the Motörhead picks up the animal fur very nicely, if it’s cluncky like it can struggle

5) I don’t use max mode very much

6) I obtained via eBay a Dyson V6 animal, there really isn’t a whole lot of difference between these too that I have found, however this house has floorboards throughout, the v6 while it has a smaller bin, it is considerably lighter

7) it would be great to include a feature on “future” designs: - a v6 sized cleaner that has updated battery technology, this is really important to consider as the V10 can get a bit “heavy” with the new click in battery feature of the latest models, a user that has multiple battery’s a users hand may get sore from holding the weight of the machine - for newer models it would be nice to see a stick that has a corded feature this may then be able increase the suction power for non-Motörhead’s - it would be great to see a industrial style cleaner, even if it was in the other style cleaners - to further develop technology that would enable to pick up cold liquids, such as those sold as a wet/dry vacuum cleaner - a Motörhead that is smaller enough to do housing skirting boards

8) for Dyson the company to develop a working relationship with “godfreys”

9) that replacement parts be available at stores that sell Dyson vacuum cleaners

10) for Dyson to provide a video/pictures on suitable products on how to safely and effectively de-sanitise the machines, I am aware that some people who run self employed cleaning companies and use the machines and need to de-sanitise the machines

Thanks for reading

Best vacuum cleaner I have ever owned – I've had many vacuums in the past. The best I had was VAX so I stuck with them. My daughter finally talked me into buying the Dyson V10 Animal. I got it home and set it up. I then vacuumed my floors with my pet hair specialized VAX (its only a few years old and still works well). I then went over the same carpet with the new V10 and I just didn't… Read more

know how to feel. Ecstatic that it was so amazingly good that it had so much more gunk or embarrassed that my other vacuum had not been doing the job. To top it all off, the V10 takes up less room, I do't have to lug around a vacuum body, cord etc and its so light-weight and easy to move around everything as I vacuum. I can't recommend it enough. The only down side is it doesn't come with a hard floor attachment. I bought one on-line but it would be nice to be able to have a full set.

May 2023 update Just letting everyone know that my Dyson is still as good today as it was when I bought it. Never breaks down and still pick everything up. Will NEVER buy another brand.

Loud, heavy and painful – This is the first and last Dyson product for me, as I am not happy with it at all. There are just too many cons: 1. Have to use it on the lowest setting most of the time to ensure the battery lasts 20-30min. 2. On medium power setting it emits a very unpleasant, very loud whistling sound which hurts my ears. Kind of like a hair dryer clocked to… Read more

ultra-turbo.

3. The trigger design is a flawed gimmick concept that should be done away with. Why should I have to keep pulling the trigger continuously while vacuuming? Who's bright idea was that? Why is there no on/off switch?

4. The overall design of the handle needs to be changed. The motor is too heavy, and after vacuuming for a few minutes my muscles start aching. There is also a plastic divider under the trigger which skins my finger as I'm pushing and pulling the vacuum, pulling the trigger and rotating this stupid loud heavy thing.

5. Suction is only so-so and the head kicks crumbs away instead of sucking them in when pulled backwards. It only seems to vacuum when in forward motion.

6. Emptying it is a nightmare and sometimes it will still indicate the filter is clogged, even after I just emptied the canister. Then I find a piece of paper or tissue or a dust ball stuck deep inside one the suction holes inside the filter compartment, which does not get emptied automatically.

Can't wait for this thing to die so I can buy from a different brand.

Best thing I’ve ever purchase – Best thing I’ve seen ever purchased. Got this 7 years ago with a corporate discount and haven’t looked back. “life changing”. Wouldn’t buy anything under the v10 - the battery doesn’t cut it. And anything over its powerful but maybe slightly over engineered.

These go on sale fairly often these days so - no brainer if you can get it under $700.

My general rule for vacuums is to divide the battery time by 3 as that’s what everyday use will account to.

We bought our Dyson V10 back in 2018 and it has been excellent. We have a smallish 3 bed home with a mix of tiles and carpet and also a large hairy dog so it gets used every day. light, so it still has good capacity. The only repairs we have made is a new head as the V-ball wheels and brush wore out. This was in 2024. This is our second Dyson as our previous one was a V6 which we had for a few years was also good, but the bin was too small for the amount of hair and dirt our floors get so we sold it. We also use the V10 to clean our cars (with an aftermarket flexible hose and switch clip) and I use it in the garage for cleaning up after wood working. They’re a little expensive but they work very well. I think the vast majority of people’s problems with these is their failure to read and understand the manual and clean the filter. We clean our filter once every couple of months. Never had a blockage problem. When this one eventually dies, we will get the Gen5 outsize for the even bigger bin. Based on YouTube reviews and our experience, we will not consider another brand.

Initially it worked great, but a month or so in it losts is effectiveness and battery life. Mainly used on the medium setting. Been a couple of years now, been through a few batteries. It clogs up with fine dust. Only lasts for about 5 minutes now. I like the attachments, great for using in the car. But for the money it was not worth it. Expensive vacuum, many problems – Without a doubt the worst vacuum I've ever owned. Constantly stops while vacuuming, gets clogged easily, and struggles to lift even small bits of kitty litter off a very low-pile rug. mediocre at all options. I've never used a vacuum that randomly switches off while using it, but that is the constant, tedious experience I've had with it. The vacuum will simply stop running until you release the trigger and pull it again. No amount of cleaning or battery re-seating fixes this.

The design is also extremely prone to clogs. We use it to get pet hair from a cat and a small dog, and it regularly gets clogged in the outlet in the chamber. I've had to stop, reach in, and physically remove buildups with my fingers.
