Excellent – The Dyson was hugely expensive for us at the time, but because of where we were living (mining town, large levels of Lead dust) we wanted the best we could afford. Every year we congratulate ourselves on buying it! We moved last year to a house with lots of nasty, fluff catching carpet and the Dyson still works beautifully. It is great to have… Read more

one appliance that we know we can count on. Also, when we had to replace the hose, parts were available and it only cost $10. I wish I could be so confident of other purchaces. We bought our Dyson in 1999. Since then, my mum has bought 4 vacuum cleaners of varying prices with each one starting off beautifully then becoming almost completely ineffective after a year or two. Last year she finally bought herself a Dyson and wonders why she didn't do so sooner. After 11 years, the hose had to be replaced; even though they rinse off the filters also need regular replacing.

Best appliance in my house! – I love our dyson. We got it in 2001, and ten years on it's still going strong. I just had the clutch replaced for $95, that included labour and also a new filter and power cord. It performs every bit as good as it did ten years ago, and I am really thrilled with it. Its fine for doing stairs, hard floors, and picks up after my kids and indoor cat… Read more

perfectly. Just talked my parents into replacing theirs (and they've had 3 vacuums in the time I've had this one.) Does the job, makes vacuuming enjoyable.

Good – There's a good reason that the Dyson range are legendary. The product is well designed and performs the most important function of a vacuum; it sucks! When you read other reviews you'll always see 'I was shocked at how much dirt came out of my carpet the first time I used it.'. I've noted a negative review on this site and I'm surprised. It's… Read more

possible this person had their vacuum in 'neutral' and didn't use it properly. Certainly I'm very happy with mine. What you really notice with a Dyson is how much longer your carpet lasts. After thirteen years on the floor ours still looks great! We've had the steam cleaners in on three occasions during that time but otherwise it's all down to the Dyson.

This model does have a telescopic attachment but it doesn't work as well as a barrel model. The base of the vacuum wont follow along behind you like a barrel and the use of the attachment is slightly awkward. If you want a vacuum for hard floors, dusting and upholstery then a barrel vacuum is a better choice. If you've got expensive carpet and you want to keep it looking like new then an upright Dyson is definitely your first choice.

The other legendary thing about this brand is their after sales service. You can order replacement parts, including the rotating brush or any removable part of the assembly, over the phone and the costs are reasonable. Our cord wore at the base after 10 years of use and Dyson repaired it. They also completely cleaned the entire vacuum and returned it as good as new.

I notice some other reviewers say they've had attachments break. All of mine are still going strong after 13 years and they get used very regularly. I agree with criticisms about the noise. This vacuum doesn't seem to me to be any noisier than average, but it does have an irritating, high pitched whine that drives my husband crazy!!! If you're sensitive to sound you'd be better off going to a store and asking for different models to be turned on so you can hear them. I'd still recommend you start with the Dysons. The exceptional performance and after sales service make them worth it. Nothing sucks like a Dyson!

Easy to empty and clean.

Rotating brush comes out easily for cleaning.

Wonderful after sales service.

Worn parts can be replaced. High pitched whine and quite noisy.

Would not be suitable for stairs or a house where you need to get under low furniture.

Not up to the price tag – Reasonable vacuum at an unreasonable price. The support is good and the parts are actually reasonably priced. Overall I expected a better machine for the money and probably would not buy a Dyson again. The technology is good but the execution is lacking, this unit is obviously built to a price which means the profit margin is fat. This is a pity… Read more

really, it could have been a great brand but they chose not to be. Great for getting dust out of carpets but nothing larger, Great technology Weak suction - it relies on technology over power, Will not pick up larger items, Breaks easily if you are not careful with it, Hand tools are not that effective (weak suction), Falls over when using hand tools, Expensive unit for the quality

Good – These are a great machine if you don't mind putting up with a few eccentricities - bit like a European car versus a Japanese car. People who have Dysons tend to love them. Light, very manouverable, does a great job sucking. The extending wand is fantastic for stairs. Looks great Typical Dyson problems - noisey, plastic tools break easily, motorised brush clogs frequently

Excellent – you should buy one of these vacuumes because they are reliable and do the job very well and clean without any trouble and they are afordable to most people. the things that i like about the dyson dual cyclone vacuum is that it is very strong at cleaning my room because it is easy to clean and does not clog or loose any power, and it is very easy… Read more
