Shocking battery life, motor died just past the 2 year mark – I purchased a Dyson V6 slim vacuum cleaner just over two years ago. I had to replace the battery a year after purchase and now the motor has died. Conveniently for Dyson it died just after the 2 year warranty ran out so it's now void. I invested in a Dyson thinking the brand was a leader in technology, reliable and trust worthy- I was sadly disappointed. Spending hundreds of dollars on buying a new replacement machine every 2 years is a scam.
Regular Maintenance Required – We’ve had this vacuum for 3 years and use it regularly. Generally does the job for a quick vacuum. But it has some negatives. I find it impossible to put the dust canister back after taking it off to empty. Just opening the bottom to empty doesn’t get rid of all the dust. So I then have to use a stick to get the dust off around the unit filter… Read more
just so I don’t have to take the canister off. Regularly have to clean the purple filter to stop any pulsing happening as well as getting rid off hair caught tightly around the roller on the head. Hair is its worst enemy and its a pain to get off the roller. Overall it seems a lot of maintenance is needed to keep it functioning well and my old trustworthy Miele seems much simpler and easier to use. Update. Another problem is I often find light small bits such as dry dog food just go round and round inside the motorised head and then get spat out instead of being sucked up. Same for bits of dry leaves, bread crumbs etc anything dry and light. I seem to be constantly pulling this vacuum apart to clear filter and brush of crap and hair. Too much work. I will never buy another Dyson vacuum. First battery lasted 3 years but second battery ( original) lasted barely a year. Onto third purple filter . Will never buy another Dyson.
Great suction. Requires regular cleaning – We have a small two bedroom house with vinyl floor planks. We also have one medium floor rug. We use it two to three times a week. The vacuum preforms well on the smooth flooring. I was surprised how well it worked on the short pile rugs. Its run time of 20 min is just enough to clean our small house. We haven't had to replace its battery. We… Read more
have had to replace the roller brush once as hair strands get tangled in the rotary action.
The machine generally needs cleaning before it gets up to the indicator line. Fibers and fluff get caught up around the centre. The bottom hatch and canister are somewhat cumbersome to take off and clean.
I was disappointed with the customer service I received when I enquired about one of the rear roller wheels that no longer sat level. As a subsequence the left hand side was starting to wear and was marking the floor. They said that I could purchase a replacement motorised head for about $200. The cost alone would make it prohibitive to replace. The rubber wheels are also starting loose the outside layer.
While it is has performed satisfactorily overall, with the suction, cleaning ability and battery life, I would be hesitant to upgrade to a newer model, with problems starting arise after three years with the head and also the cost of replacement.

Totally useless – Bought this about 2 years ago. Had it for about 4 months, battery failed. Dyson didn't have batteries to replace it. A company that has ALL cordless devices, but doesn't have batteries. HOW does THAT make sense????? MONTHS later, they FINALLY send me a battery under warranty. I used it now and then, but not as often as most. It is always on… Read more
the charger station were it is meant to be kept.
I notice the LED is flashing the other day. Battery is now defective AGAIN.
I have another brand cleaner I have had for 14 years. It was half the price of the Dyson. Not cordless; but I have to go back to using that - and that works for more than 5 minutes.
I put a review on here back when the Dyson battery farce was happening; but can't find it.
I accept that cheap cordless devices, the batteries don't last. But I have drills and the like from cheaper brands that last for years and years. Dyson is supposedly the "premier battery techs" - and my battery lasted only MONTHS - and now need another one???
I'll never buy another one. Their batteries are useless; especially for a "flagship battery brand".
Get one while you can! – Ok so this is a discontinued model but there are still plenty available on sites like Catch, Kogan and Dick Smith. And the price is down to $299 (got ours for $200). It cleans amazingly well for a stick vacuum on our carpet and timber floor. Has a “max” (boost) button for harder to extract grime. Would be perfect as your main vacuum in an… Read more
apartment but we use it in our 4 bedroom house and though the battery only lasts about 20 - 25 min, we can do a quick good job in that time when we don’t want to drag out the vacuumaid. You can tell it works by the amount of dust in the canister after each use. And I advise you to empty the canister straight into the bin after each use for this reason. Getting the canister off for a good clean out can be a little tricky and certainly not as easy as the Dyson YouTube instruction video makes out, but with practice it gets easier. We store it in a hall cupboard with a PowerPoint so it recharges everytime you put it back in the cradle which is easy to wall mount. As I said, for the price, it is a great 2nd vacuum for us and at the current price, we’ll worth it. Get one while you can!
This is perfect for a small apartment / granny flat. Seriously life changing – I previously had the DC65 Animal Upright Vacuum Cleaner at my last property which was 3 bedroom, but it was painful to run the power cord all through the house. I recently moved into a 1 bedroom granny flat so I decided to give the Dyson V6 Slim stick vacuum a go. I bought this from the special Aldi catalogue in December '18. I knew that this was… Read more
one of the older versions (Dyson now has the Cyclone V10) so I was a bit worried being so many models behind, but it's still soooo powerful. I have 2 long haired chihuahuas and this stick is just as powerful if not more powerful than the Upright vacuum. It picks up all the hair, crumbs and even dust that I didn't even know I had. I'm really impressed and it has made vacuuming fun. I get the whole place done in less 10 minutes. Please keep in mind that it takes roughly 3 hours to fully charge, so it is best you have it charging all the time. Ideal for smaller apartments / granny flats as it probably gives you about 20 mins total of vacuuming. If you have it on "MAX" which is the most powerful vacuuming level, then you probably only get about 10 mins total.

Excellent! One of the best vacuum I have ever had – I have c God carpets and tiles it really clean the place perfectly prior vacuum I will have go through a few times which takes 15-20 but this one is so it takes 5 minutes yeah very happy with it Show details
Use it every day, no dramas – Our house uses it almost every day for 15-20 minutes. Love how easy it is with no cord, suction is great. Can be hard to clean the machine if not looked after regularly. Once you figure out a good routine it's easy. Battery beginning to die with 20 minutes use, after 2.5 years, but looks easy enough to replace through Dyson. Show details · 1
Have it for 5 years without any issue – Bought it about 5 years ago and do not have any issue with, however we do not use it as vacuum to clean the whole house therefore 10-15 minutes battery run sounds OK. Head is hard to clean. Show details · 1

Turbo head design flaw, 0.5 mm electrical wire, are you kidding me? – The turbo head stopped spinning caused by broken wires inside the head, I know this because I disassembled the powerhead myself since I don't have the receipt to claim warranty, which is how I discovered the shocking quality of this product, you would expect a product of this price point to at least have proper wiring in this area (powerhead… Read more
joint) which is under constant movement, but no ! it is as flimsy as the cheap ALDI job I bought and returned after the same fault. Shame on you Dyson, under all that glossy skin and hyped up marketing you are just a nasty piece of junk that doesn't last. At least ALDI's would give you a full refund when their junk breaks down.
Fundamental design flaws – Battery replaced after 2 years, good service but sad that it went after 2 years. Very rarely works for more than 5 minutes at a time now. We have to pretty much take the thing apart and clean it thoroughly to get it to work, Kind of defeats the object. The bin is very small and needs to be emptied even before it fills since the fluff tends to… Read more
clog it up and reduce suction.
The bin is very hard to empty and rarely does the detritus just fall out as expected which means the bin needs to be removed. That should be a simple operation but it it's quite fiddly. Even with the bin removed you still need to manually remove all the lint, fluff and gunk from the mesh.
About to buy a new one but I'm hoping dyson have learned from the flaws in this one.
Dyson V6 Slim vacuum cleaner – Purchased this for my mother-in-law in 2017. Initial issues in stopping and starting. This was due to clogging in various sections of the machine. Impossible for my mother-in-law to open these areas. Even I had trouble removing the top filter as the grab point is too small. Battery died and I ordered and received a replacement. Used the cleaner… Read more
myself to test and as usual it stopped and started after 10 minutes. Spent next half hour opening all areas to remove and clean. Opening the dust "hopper" to let everything drop out was OK for the dust but everything else had to be removed with a stick. I would term this cleaner a lemon design. Unfriendly to use and badly designed. No doubt Dyson would say they have overcome the issues with newer and better models. Pity they do not design and test models such as this in real life situations.
Should any debris not fall out of the machine when… Read more (+2 replies)

Customer service wasn’t the best and battery awful! – 2 battery replacements in 3 years. Absolute joke - don’t bother buying one. I’ve owned 2 Dyson sticks and the constant same issues happening. I spoke with customer service, went through the steps to no avail beside them trying to resell me a new battery.

Battery quality well below acceptable standard – Bought new in 2017 for $400, battery never lasted long enough to do lounge and 2 other rooms or even a car. Now in 2020 battery lasts less than a minute. Every other appliance I own with a lithium battery lasts way longer. At a cost of nearly 1/4 the cost of the machine I doubt I'll bother. Dyson has lost it for me, won't be getting anything else… Read more · 1
from them. When you pay a premium price you expect better quality. If you buy cheap from China you don't expect much, I thought Dyson was a reputable, quality product. UPDATE 6 Jul 2020 After Dyson reps replied to my review and suggested I write to Dyson I was supplied a replacement battery at no cost. Thanks to Dyson, that is why it's worth paying the extra.
Really unhappy with this appliance! – Purchased approx 2 years ago and battery failed about 2 months ago haven’t used since. It’s also really difficult to open the dust cartridge when emptying and reattaching. Wouldn’t consider another Dyson based on this experience. Show details

Really happy with the vacuum cleaner – Excellent vac when it's working. Head is hard to clean you turn to take out brush and plastic felt strip become deformed (plastic soft). Brush head has ceased to rotate. It helps to me to maintain my floor really clean. Show details
Dreadful. It has a very short battery life which makes cleaning a chore. Stops for no reason. High maintenance – I just want the thing to do what i need , vacuum my house in one hit without constantly stopping. I also don't expect to have that much difficulty opening and shutting the parts - 1/10 Show details

It's amazing – It's amazing it dies the job I wanted it to do and its so light and easy to use. I use it all round the house and it works so good after using it time and time again . And 1 charge last long enough to do my hole house 2 time Show details
Apparently only good on regular use – Mainly just use it when I wash the car, unfortunately the battery was giving up when I try to use it in the last few months it only give me 1-2 minutes run time. told me to buy a new battery. What’s the point? If your not going to use it regularly like once a week, do not buy it. Get a cheaper brand.
Absolutely terrible – Absolutely terrible vacuum battery lasts 10 minutes and the suction is horrendous and it spits the dirt across the floor. I would never buy a Dyson again just not worth the money you pay for the product. Show details

Not as powerful as I hoped and battery died after 11 months – I thought battery would be better and that the Dyson would be more powerful. Luckily they are sending me a new battery, a bit disappointed as it is a very expensive cleaner
You get what you pay for – We have had the stick vac for just under 2 years. It wasn't meant to take over from the barrel vac but it has because it is so light & easy to use and great performer on all types of surfaces. When the battery died a couple of weeks ago ,I didn't think that was right .Neither did Dyson .They were happy replacing the battery and charger on warranty .There are a lot of other manufacturers who could learn from this - Good customer service Show details
Perfect suction – This is amazing! Brilliant suction, light as a feather and is perfect for the small area I need it for (both carpet and hardwood floors) I have two dogs, and I can't believe how much hair it picks up compared to my other vacuum. I'm hooked! I actually enjoy vaccuuming now Show details
Amazing – Amazing vaccum for a quick clean. I personally enjoyed using this every day but found like most things the battery starts to fade over time. Yes these are replaceable but thats the price of a new one. Show details · 1
Product of the year again – I use it on all surfaces. Car and house both benefit. Easy to clean and maintain. The roller in the head unit is replaceable but it lasts a long time compared to the amount of work it receives. Show details
V6 pretty much a fail. Should have purchased a later model – Bought the v6 stick from Catch this year. Big mistake, should have done my research. I only have hardwood floors and it doesn't pickup, just spreads debris around. Also dirt, fluff and hair get caught around filter so barrel needs removing every time. Push red lever down whole way as instructed but doesn't detach. Have to twist, pull and fiddle… Read more
for a good 5 minutes then go through same thing to replace. Very, very frustrating machine. Sorry, wasted my money there!
Great and worth it – I bought this from catch and I didn’t really know what Dyson was at the time but when I first started using it I was amazed of how a cordless vacuum was so strong like it was just so quick to collect dirt and not even that it also have a max button to select if you u want to make it powerful but the unit is already fast wouldn’t need to use it but… Read more
it great to have a option **ps** I had a small problem with the lid the open to clean the dust wasn’t closing after a couple of months but a quick phone call to Dyson and they replaced it it’s good to keep in mind with your products in the warranty stage if anything’s wrong with them to get it fixed!!
Workhorse – Awesome vacuum. Isn't cheap but so practical. My wife has used it almost every day for the past 3 years. I was sceptical and researched quite a while before deciding. This thing is just so convenient. My home is much cleaner now just because we can just grab this thing and fly over the floors rather than hauling out the vacuum cleaner and… Read more
having to plug it in three different places because the cord doesn't reach.
The suction is really good.
One thing to know that on max suction the battery only lasts 8 minutes.
It is at its best on wood floors.
The battery recently gave up the ghost and we simply bought a replacement on ebay popped it in and up and running again
will by another one when this finally ceases working
How did I survive before I had one of these? – I use this on both my carpet and vinyl planks, it slides well over the planks. I find it works extremely well on the vinyl planks and excellent on the carpet. It is great at picking up dog hair. Show details
Best Vacuum – I've been using this vacuum for over a year now and I can say it's a really tough one. I am using it to vacuum carpeted, tiles and concrete floor and on regular power, it can handle 4 bedrooms, kitchen and dining area, living room, a big hallway (size of 4 bedrooms) and big veranda (size of 4 bedrooms) and still not flat. lasts 5 minutes now. It cleans well and easy to empty. Just make sure to always check the roller as hair accumulates around it and you have to clean it after every vacuum - thats it if you're like me who has hundreds of hair fall every day.
Dyson Quality has dropped in last 5 years – I am a Dyson loyalist for entry level products but in last few years they have dripped the quality of their products. scratching my wooden flooring. Any tome you call Dyson it's all about do this do that and spend 1-2 hrs on phone or they say post or bring the device to their service centre in South somewhere in NSW. They are forcing customers to purchase high end products which I beleiev is rubbish. I am sure Dyson will slowly loose their loyal customers. Overall poor quality and worst customer service. I will rather Spen this money in buying a generic brand and change vaccum every year.
Disappointed – Not overly impressed. Yes it has good suction but emptying the canister/filter is messy and difficult. Doesn’t work if canister is full and Won’t charge or hold charge unless empty. Charge lasting 10min max. Show details
