The glass is so thin and I accidentally tapped it against something (lightly) and it cracked after only 2 weeks! I own soooo many glass kitchen products (chopping boards, coffee cups, storage containers, baking trays etc) and have never broken one. Super annoying. Plus the water still smelled earthy and had a tinge to it (tank water), better than from the tap but I still expected more. Waste of money!

Flimsy junk – The glass is ridiculously thin and broke within a couple of weeks of having it, absolutely trash. See photos attached Show details

Does not alkalinise water – CAN'T RATE ZERO SO HAD TO GIVE 1 STAR! Hopefully anyone looking for this function sees my review and doesn't purchase the jug... pH test strips before and after filtering are completely identical - both at 6.0 (acidic) whereas the marketing claims filtered water will be alkaline (8-8.5). I would've been happy with neutral but absolutely no change means I just wasted my time and money on a useless product :(

Total misrepresentation faulty after use – The jug appears to work and here is where the detail is in the fine use, After three weeks, grey fine material link metal shavings or mud appear in the bottom of the jug. I immediately thought perhaps the filter was faulty. I contacted the manufacturer who appears Australian based , and the reply ...nothing Nada . This is the indication of how… Read more

they work, the product is made overseas sold with a trendy name but god knows what is in the filters. The filters themselves are very expensive . I say use at your own risk. I endeavor to collect the material and hopefully a product recall will be ordered.

Glass broke for no reason – Link below to the specific product I'm reviewing - it is their newer version glass jug. After less than a month and for literally NO REASON at all it shattered in my hands (i.e. It didnt get dropped, knocked or filled with hot water). I approached Gentoo directly and they referred me to the supplier, who of course just had to go back to Gentoo =… Read more

waste of my time. Gentoo denied that this could happen - no help at all. The supplier was very lovely though. I do not recommend buying the glass. I replaced with the plastic version as I already had spare filters and this works fine so far https://www.ecobud.com.au/shop/jugs/gentoo-glass-water-filter-jug-grey-and-white?gclid=Cj0KCQjwnqH7BRDdARIsACTSAdsgVWIBoyXbwJ4MTLFkj6M2hIZw3lXPUBsv0l1tGf3g0aCiJVE5ojMaAhP_EALw_wcB

Water OK- jug terrible to pour from – We've had a blue & clear plastic Gentoo water filter for many years. When we saw a glass version thought we would upgrade. The old plastic jug was good to pour from but this glass one is terrible. Sorry we bought this glass one Show details

ecobud Gentoo – I really like the product. It has saved me a lot of money. I could not drink the existing water in my tenancy. It was cloudy, had suspended particles from the old pipes, smelled terrible and tasted awful. I don't have to buy wasteful water bottles now. I highly recommend the ecobud Gentoo. The water is clear, has no bad taste and smells neutral.… Read more

It uses a couple of filtration processes so it must be doing something however I would like to see published independent test results on their website.

Great concept - needs help with design – I like that this jug promises to remove fluoride. I don't know how much it removes, but any is better than what comes out of the tap. I like the lift up flap to fill. But design of jug is such that if there is any water in the upper reservoir, it will spill into the filtered water reservoir below, polluting your filtered water with… Read more

unfiltered.

Additionally, the lid broke twice. I replaced the lid once, and it broke again. Great concept, poor execution.

Works well – Seen a lot of reviews claiming this doesn't remove fluoride, this simple isn't true. Does it remove 98%? not from what i can see however is does remove a lot of it, which for the price is good enough. I have a degree in chemistry and work in environmental waste labs so i have both access to highly accurate fluoride testing and the required skill… Read more

to get accurate and repeatable readings.

I live in the west midlands uk and the water in my area is fluoridated at 1.97ppm on a new filter this was reduced to 0.29ppm once filtered with a brand new filter, not 98% reduction but still pretty dam good! After 1 month use i tested again 0.34ppm, 2 months 0.47ppm and after 3 months just before replacing the filter it was up to 0.61ppm so even after 3 months there is a reduction from 1.97ppm to 0.61ppm which is a 69% reduction on an old filter.

Please note if you are going to test your own fluoride levels (which you should!) then please make sure you take the time to do your tests accurately. There is no such thing as "test strips" for fluoride detection you must use a proper machine, make up solutions accurately and be able to get the similar results each time you test otherwise you test is inaccurate and therefore useless.

Hanna instruments make a good "home use" detector that is simple to use, it's not going to give you the same results as the one I've used in the lab but if you but the LOW RANGE detector it should give accurate enough results for this purpose. Also remember if you buy any detector to buy calibration liquid (liquid with a known concentration of fluoride in it to set the machine too) it's scary how many people say there filter isn't working and they've tested it, when they have never checked to see if there detector is giving an accurate reading. i.e. weighing out flour on scales with out zeroing the scales first.

Another thing to note is when you boil water you vastly increase the concentration of fluoride in it as it doesn't evaporate with the steam. e.g. filtered 0.29ppm water turned into 0.61ppm when boiled so don't re-boil your water always use new water.

Hope this helps clear up some of the misinformation out there and help you all on the way to being fluoride free!

98% fluoride removal? I don't think so – My water has 0.7ppm fluoride added to it by the water company and has done since 1964. My Eco Bud Gentoo water filter jug claims 98% fluoride removal. I have tested the Gentoo filter to exacting standards and procedures, I am a retired physicist so know a thing or two about testing. At 0.7ppm fluoride with a 98% fluoride removal my reading should… Read more

be 0.018ppm unfortunately contrary to the Eco Bud claim it is 0.42ppm after filtration using the Gentoo jug. There is no possibility of contamination therefore the only conclusion is that the Gentoo water filtration jug does not live up to the manufacturers claim of 98% fluoride removal and such claims should be removed from their advertising as they are false.

It doesn't do what it says on the box: – I'm posting from the UK. "Removes up to 98% of fluoride". How misleading is this claim!? I have an Extech Exstik II gauge and a Hanna HI 729 colorimeter gauge so can verify the results of the Extech analytical gauge. I bought a Gentoo last week and subjected the filter jug to as many fluoride samples that I could find in the West Midlands (UK)… Read more

region. The results were disturbing: when the levels of fluoride had gone down to 0.1ppm fluoride (due to there being a new supplier of the fluoridating acid and where the acid had possibly not satisfied rigorous testing) I found that the levels of fluoride remained the same: 0.1 ppm fluoride. When, today, I finally found a sample of water containing 0.9ppm fluoride, the level of fluoride in the Gentoo product water was 0.5ppm fluoride. OK - this is a reduction of approx. 50%. BUT the jug claims that it removes fluoride so what are we, the buyers, expecting from the filter? I would have hoped that the reduction would have been "removal of fluoride" and not just 50%. And what happens after a few weeks when the filter is older. Well, I'll be testing the product water using the same filter at the beginning of May to see if the filter is overperforming or underperforming. I would welcome any comments. I've been analysing water samples for fluoride since 2011. Watch this spot!

It doesn't take out anywhere near 98% fluoride – I contacted Ecobud and asked for their test results for fluoride twice with no reply. I then decided to get my own fluoride tester, and I purchased this tester, HANNA Handheld Fluoride Low Range Colorimeter - HI729 I checked the water coming out of my tap for fluoride concentration and it was 1.5ppm. I then tested the water in my Ecobud and it was 1.3ppm. This is nowhere near the 98% claimed!

Great tasting water and friendly customer service – Bought this online and received the the product within 2 days. Love the taste of the filtered water, worth the value. It is very straight forward and easy to use. I will definitely keep using it! Also, the customer service was friendly and helpful while I rang them on the phone.

Expensive, Doesn't Work and HORRIBLE Customer Service! – Purchased 2x Gentoo Water Filter jugs plus 4 filters about 4 months ago. Arrived missing ONE jug and TWO filters. They never arrived. After emailing back and forth a second jug was sent out - no extra filter!! Told them - nothing happened! I primed the jug as instructed and filled with tap water. It's meant to de-fluoridate and alkalinise the… Read more

water. After 24 hours slime was floating in the purified water. Rinsed and re-primed. Same thing again. White, slimy water in the filtered water section. Contacted the company who went through troubleshooting with me, Same thing again, Said they wanted photos - sent this to them. Said they would resend a filter. Waited AGES, finally emailing them - oh the email was stuck in their outbox and they didn't see it. Will send a new filter. Few weeks later new filter arrives. Go through all the same steps - SAME slimy, white yucky water!! Emailed AGAIN and went back and forth for weeks. Eventually I'd had enough and demanded a refund. Said they would need the jug and filter returned. I did this and had to email them constantly to see what was going on?? They dilly-dallied around and promised a refund weeks ago. I have been in contact with them constantly - always promising to do it. Finally found a different number (their SALES number) and some rude man took the call - he snapped at me that the refund was done today and it will take a few days to come through. Told him I have been waiting WEEKS for my refund, to which he snapped "well its been done this morning" THEN HUNG UP ON ME!!

My advice - avoid this bunch!! I'm back to my Brita jug - even though it doesn't remove fluoride, I'm sticking to it!! NOTHING EVERYTHING
