Mower does not work on thick turf, keeps cutting out – Doesn't work on thick turf like Zoysia, had it even sent to Ego Technician and did some upgrade, but still doesn't work. Only used it for 10 months, what a waste this is. Very disappointing. Will hopefully sell it and get a petrol mower. Show details

Easy to use and store, but not very powerful – I needed to replace a very old Honda 4-stroke Buffalo when it died. All other garden gear was cordless, including an EGO trimmer, and with only a few smaller lawns to mow, this narrow, 42" 'push' model seemed a wise choice. Also the EGO batteries could be shared between the mower and the trimmer. Every spring the old petrol mower could just… Read more

manage to de-thatch the couch lawn on its lowest setting. I realised I'd have to borrow a petrol mower annually for that task, but I expected the EGO to keep up with the growth throughout the year. However, it's a struggle at times.

The height adjustment doesn't go low enough on its lowest setting and, being a relatively lightweight mower, it's inclined to ride higher over the matted couch than a heavier petrol mower. To achieve a decent trim in summer, I've been placing a bag of kitty litter over the rear wheels, but then it's harder to push.

Frequent mowings are needed at this setting since it occasionally encounters thicker patches, slows and sometimes stalls unless I move at a crawl. Apparently the wider, wheel-driven EGO mowers have a more powerful motor, so one of these would no doubt manage better, but reportedly don't trim as low as this model.

So it's a compromise. The larger EGO models are (all?) wheel-driven, more expensive, and bulky to carry and store. Also each of our 4 lawns isn't very large - often a few strides then turn back - so maybe not that easy when the wheels are driven.

When not struggling with lush spring growth and the grass is dry, it mows well. A mulcher plug is included and works well when cutting shorter growth, spreading the clippings unseen across the lawn. Battery (5Ah) endurance is more than adequate for a few smaller lawns, easily managing up to 3 lawn mowings before needing a recharge. Recharging isn't rapid, so once flat, it needs more than an hour to recover. Apparently EGO's battery management is good, monitoring its charge and ensuring a longer battery life in the newer versions.

The mower folds away to take up little space, standing upright, in a garage or garden shed. The catcher also partially collapses to save space. The non-metal, 'resin plastic', casing means it's very light, especially with the battery removed, however it does readily show where it's bumped into garden urns and brickwork.

Apart from being a little underpowered for some tasks and lawn types, it is a good and, so far, reliable cordless mower. Not messing with petrol, noise, fumes, pull-starts and awkward storage is very welcome.

Work well in ideal working conditions – I have had this for more than 2 years. In these 2 years, for more than a year, it is with the service center or I was without a battery. This gets overloaded fast and with the battery lights flicker and will shut down. You then need to run it without the grass collections to avoid more overload and then run it again with the grass collection.… Read more

Mowing is completed with frequent shutdowns/disruptions because of overload.

I have raised multiple cases and conversations with the Ego and the Store where I purchased ( Store guys were awesome). I had video evidence of what was happening ( with the grass wet aspect with the size which I am on and then how full the collector was) If you lift the mover it will get started first I had my battery replaced and then the whole unit was replaced( took almost a year to reach that point)

This mover is awesome when it is used in ideal conditions. That means, there should not be a shower in the past 2 days and the length of the grass should not be greater than 2 inches ( with the collection) and 4 inches without the collection.

I have a small yard in the Penrith Suburbs of NSW. We have frequent showers there and they have gotten back to me the mover cannot be used when the grass is wet ( 3/4th the price Ryobi on battery works well when this doesn’t).

The grass collection is the best you can get, and I have seen it get overloaded ( RED and ORANGE Battery light) when the BIN is full and the BIN gets full very fast as the collection is awesome.

This is what I think. If the conditions are good; this is an awesome mover. But where I live ( most of NSW) as I know this is not good as we have showers often and we cannot use this for mowing as and when you like it or when you have free time. Even if you plan the mowing the weather gods will not let you with a drizzle.

I do not recommend this product and my friend's Ryobi battery does a better job for ¾ the price Bunnings can refund/replace the stuff if it’s not working. Getting this sorted with the EGO support was a pain that took months.

The issue is outstanding, and I couldn’t capture a video yet for the latest one. Not sure how I will be treated for the new issue raised.

Very short life span – I bought this unit on 31 Jan 2023. It worked for the first half dozen mows and then, after a month and a half, it stopped. It keeps telling me that it has overheated (orange light continuously on). It has sat in the shed for the last two days and is still overheated (it is at the same temperature as outside - 24°C). The battery is fully charged… Read more

but the mower is not working.

I rang the seller - return it to the shop for inspection by Ego. What a great warranty!

I will now have to buy a second mower to cut the grass that the broken one can't. Not recommended.

Three weeks later still no mower. Contacted EGO in Australia - their only reply "was waiting for parts".

It appears that the build and repair quality are similar. Further EGO do not display any concern for this problem.

Happy with this purchase – I have a Victa 2 stroke mower which I have no issues with, but my wife wanted the job of mowing our lawn and she wanted something easy to use. We decided on a battery powered mower, so this is our introduction into the future of electric everything. We did what most people do and went to our local Bunnings and with some advice, purchased a Ryobi… Read more

dual 18V mover, 2x 5Ah Batteries, and a Ryobi fast charger. This also suited me because I have a few other Ryobi tools that use the same batteries. After charging each battery one at a time, taking just over an hour each, we began to mow. The batteries over heat and shutdown after a few minutes and were totally depleted after 15min leaving 80% of our lawn uncut. Another 2 hour charge later and repeat. We returned the mower feeling very disappointed with the technology, and thinking the future of electric everything is looking very bleak. Bunnings are very good with returns and refunded all our money. The next day we watched some YouTube mower reviews and a couple of brands stood out, Ego being one of them. Our local Total Tools shop carried them and we purchased the EGO Power+ LM1700E. The mower comes with 1x56V 5Ah battery and standard charger. It was totally charged in one hour and powered through our lawn running continuously for 40+ minutes and still had plenty of charge remaining. Quite a contrast to the Ryobi. We are very satisfied with this product. I am still keeping the Victa though, just in case.

Great Battery Powered Mower!!! – Heard a lot about the mower and read good reviews about it. Wanted to get a bigger one but got the 42cm one as it was on a Deal. I have a 150 Sqm of lawn and i mowed it with 50% of charge left. Smooth even cut. Very low noise and easy to manoeuvre. Highly recommended.
