15yrs and still going – In the 3rd year of ownership we had a breakdown - some internal retainer pin broke and was fixed under warranty. The technician told us to never spin it at maximum 1400RPM. So we have used 1000RPM every time since then and it has been fine. Now about 15yrs later the inlet valve failed to open, so water wasn't entering anymore. A service call… Read more
for $249 inc parts fixed it and now it's saved from land fill.
Update 1/6/25 - the machine is still going! A family of 5 and we do a minimum of 3-4 washes per week.
11 years old temperature sensor failed – On the positive side, the Electrolux washer has worked fine for its first 10 years and is still working, albeit without water temperature control. On the bad side, it failed by stealth. I only noticed because the washing wasn't coming out as clean as it should and noticed the door wasn't getting warm like it used to. No error message to alert… Read more
me though. So I googled the secret button combinations to enter diagnostics mode and it displayed error code E71, related to the temperature sensor, wiring or main board. The board is an expensive part at well over $300 + service cost and from reading here and elsewhere it is the most common fault. Surely it doesn't need to be that expensive Electrolux? I don't mind paying a repairer for their work and preventing the machine from going to landfill but the price of the parts is a major deterrent.
UPDATE: It's worth contacting Electrolux. Naturally they give you the option of paying for a service call, but they might offer you a staff price on a new Electrolux or AEG like they did for me. This made me very happy with the changeover cost and my new AEG washes very well.
$1648.00NZ and broken 6 years later ? – For such an expensive machine I expected it to last longer than 6 years. Yesterday it refused to wash. I managed to get it to drain but it won't spin. Very disappointed. Reading reviews, don't think I would ever buy another. Haven't called out a repairman because i can't afford to and quite frankly as has been indicated in these reviews, it would… Read more
more than likely be a waste of money. Will have to look for a no deposit interest free deal for another brand.
UPDATE ON THIS REVIEW
After contacting Electrolux NZ and having the machine repaired by Appliance repair man, Electrolux have refunded me with the cost of repair to the machine. This was totally unexpected, but not for the reason you may think. When the repair man came to the house he inspected it and said he couldn't be sure but he thought that the control board had gone. This is an expensive fix and I was panicking. When he got it to the shop he discovered that it was couple of broken wires deep in the wiring loom (basically a wear and tear issue). Relatively cheap to fix. I contacted Electrolux and informed them and said due to it being a wear and tear I didn't expect them to pay for it. However they insisted that they would and today I received a cheque for the full amount of repair. It has been working absolutely fine since then so I am more than happy. Big thumbs up to Electrolux

Love the ole thing – I had issues 3 yrs into owning this machine but brought the part myself and fitted it$169 then had a cloth jam it and got charged $400 to fix, but went through two loan machines! Hated them!! So so happy to have my machine back! Yes the name ultra silencer is an absolute joke but love my machine! 10 years in! Show details
In use for 9 years, not a single issue – This is a wonderful machine. I'm really confused about all the negative reviews and I wonder if people understand how important it is not to overload a front-loading clothes washer. I've used mine daily for 9 years. I've never had a single problem. I have to admit that it's not that quiet, but it's only loud on the fastest spin cycle, which I… Read more
prefer anyhow because it gets all the water extracted. This washer gets my clothes exceptionally clean and I've never even had to have a basic maintenance. However, I clean the waste trap, and gasket on a regular basis, as per the instructions.
Four years and still no problem – I know it's so easy to write negative reviews but this Machine was purchased from factory seconds at a fraction of the $1200 that a new machine costs. I has lasted through to now without a hiccup. The 1400rpm is awesome and except for the drainage hose design (near impossible to replace - has caused issues now). This machine worked well. replacement parts are pricey, so the hose issue has burnt a hole in the pocket and the circuit board needs replacing because the replacement house leaked and shorted out the board:-( Only hiccup in at least 4 years of use.

Machine been repaired and did not last long for the same problem – Very disappointed with this electrolux ewf 1495. It had been repaired about a year ago and the problem started again. I never wants anyone to have a similar problem. I think this is a factory fault because there are so many people having the similar issues. cut. I would think this is a safety issue as it can cause electrocution. After reading the review on this products I have doubts.
A complete lemon, has put me off the Electrolux brand – Our Electrolux EWF1495 has just failed for the 4th time in less than four years of use - all electronics issues (switches, motherboard, etc). It produces an acceptable washing result, with plenty of cycle options, but is just so unreliable. Also for a machine that advertises itself as "Ultra Silencer", it sounds like a freight train when it is… Read more

Won't get another one – Bought (Choice recommendation) in 2008, failed shortly after, turned out to be due to lose wire probably caused by excessive vibration when spinning. swaying and vibration. Then installed on the floor and carefully levelled, but still makes the house shake when heavy items (sheets, towels, jeans) in wash, despite never setting spin faster than 900 RPM, and having smaller items in wash with heavy ones to help balance the load. Noisy, and always has been. Hard on the clothes, towels have turned into pot scourers, and sheets wear out very quickly. Doesn't rinse well - I routinely do extra rinse. Now that it has failed again I will probably replace it rather than spend a third of the original price on a repair that may or may not work, on a machine that appears to be past its use by date judging by other people's experiences here. Disappointed in Choice too. What I do now is go straight to the product reliability surveys and blogs, and read how products are rated by people who have used them for a while. On that basis, will probably get a Miele next time, despite hideous cost. I like reliability. And my 1960s Hoover Twin Tub still works! Of course, it probably only has about four moving parts.

Was great while it worked – I found this was a great machine and never had any problems with it since October 2008. I bought an extended warranty but never needed anything fixed under Electrolux or extended warranties. Was away for 3 years and it was stored in mint condition. Came back from overseas and used it for 2 months until one day it won't switch on. Looks like a… Read more
blown board, the machine apparently has no fuse or circuit breaker before the power reaches the board. It is unlikely to be due to my home power supply as my house has surge protection and new wiring on the whole house. Looking at half the cost of the machine or a new machine that is not made by Electrolux. The interesting thing is that overall my machine has had only 4 years of moderate use which makes it look like machine is designed to fail after a certain time/number of cycles. Not happy. Electrolux advises it will cost $145 for a technician and $302.50 for a new board which is the most likely problem.
Piece of expensive disposable junk – Absolutely useless! My $1300 washing machine is doing the same as everybody elses, shopping mid-wash and not completing when it comes to spinning. Obviously a faulty PCB, probably motor invertor board same as everyone here. Not even going to bother calling a tech to be told i'm up for $400-$600 only for the same PCB to fail again later. Do not buy, doesn't last – Wish I had seen these reviews 4 years ago when I bought this, then I would have saved myself the trouble. First Electrolux front and last! Tried the recommended detergents and tried other brands, never got out of using the extra rinse.
Scum builds up around the rubber seal all the time, you don't notice it till pulling out the washing and its all over the cloths.
4 years on and now stopping at random times during the wash cycle. Technician come out informs us it the inverter going. It will cost $350+ for parts only.
Told us if we buy Electrolux again we get $80 off the first call out fee(LOL).
So now we are looking for a new front loader, as I don't think paying around $350-500 (another call out plus labour??) is worth it.
Spin cycle and programing was the only good thing on the machine.
Don't think I will be looking at another Electrolux again.
Rubbish Product and no amount of poor service will fix this issue - DISGRACEFUL – We bought our first new machine in 2008. It was a top model at the time and it seemed ok for the first 12 months. We paid $1,000. The problems started after this and we were faced with bills amounting to approx $600 over the next four years until it apparently could not be fixed. It was left in bits by the technician who advised us to speak to… Read more
service. He seemed to us all too familiar with the circumstances. Along the way we noticed regular staining from the washes in the last 1-2 years. The product is poor and the brand very disappointing. The product should not have been released and to own it is very expensive because it is simply not reliable.
We were offered a discount on a replacement but when quality is not a part of your brand or offering, it is not very appealing. Hopeless - do yourself a favour a do what most people are doing which is purchase another brand - not Simpson either because you will be no better off in front loaders (they are re-badged). I was keen to take this to VCAT but Electrolux are too well versed on this and life too short. Terrible product and we will not be buying Electrolux again.
A further note - you can see a trend in looking through reviews where these poor people that are employed to act as customer representatives are regularly appearing in the reviews trying to suggest that everything will be ok. Do not believe it! It will not be ok because they can't really do anything about unreliable and poor products.
The best part about this experience was leaving beside the road as hard rubbish for collection - a suitable advertisement for Electrolux!

Bitterly disappointed!! – I have had my machine for about eight years now, after the first 15 months everything but the exterior casing was replaced due to shot bearings and excessively loud noise level while spinning. 48 hours. Within one month, the spin cycle became extremely noisy once again but I have chosen to put up with it as we have not been in a position to buy another machine and felt with a purchase price of $1200, it needs to keep going a lot longer regardless. Just recently it has failed to complete a full cycle on it's own, stopping after rinsing and and not going on to spin, needing to be manually programmed to finish the cycle.
The noise level when spinning is now unbearable, sounding like jet engine even when the laundry door is closed. Certainly could not wash at night and take advantage of cheaper electricity rates. Our clothes have suffered badly as a result of this model, my trackpants and tops look old and worn out after just one season of wearing and washing. Towels are like sandpaper to use, even after giving them a few minutes in the dryer to try to soften up. Fabric softener does not fully dispense into the drum when rinsing resulting in a sticky film left in the drawer. Quick wash takes over an hour to complete, hardly what I'd call quick!! The door needs to be slammed shut each time, can't give it a gentle nudge to close it. Like many others I purchased this model on the recommendation of Choice but wished I hadn't done so, a very regretful waste of money. I'll probably replace it early next year, the noise is just too much and I would not look at purchasing any more Electrolux products. A good level of cleaning Noise, noise and more noise!! Not good enough for a 'top quality' machine at over $1000 to buy. Other machines in this price bracket are very quiet, why not this one?!!

completely dead. It's destined for the dump. It had a problem early in it's life, after waiting weeks for a serviceman who took it apart, then said parts had to come from Adelaide (to Melbourne) which would take a week, the next visit he replaced 2 circuit boards. Since that time it worked, but it's not the best washing machine in terms of noise, mould or collecting residue inside. After reading what a lemon this model is, I'm NOT going to pay > $100 for a service person to come around in a couple of weeks, then tell me I need hundreds more in parts while they troubleshoot it, plus labour costs. It's going straight to the dump and I'm going to buy a better brand - perhaps Miele - their reviews seem good.
Bad service, bad life time, average washing.
Third time - and still unlucky! – We purchased an EWF1495 in 2009 from the Good Guys. 3 months later the machine died completely and when the service technician came he checked it and immediately ordered a replacement machine, which to their credit arrived 2 days later as promised. Just over a year later the second machine seized up with faulty drum bearings! One might expect this… Read more
if the machine was working hard, but we are a pension aged couple so the machine workload is really minimal. After much debate about whether the machine warranty date was from the initial date of purchase, or from the date the replacement machine was supplied Electrolux - again to their credit - replaced the second machine at no cost. Now the third machine has started to exhibit problems, in that at the end of each wash cycle the door locking mechanism give a loud click every second until the machine cycle switch is selected off and the door is opened. Obviously we are about to suffer some kind of failure that will cost to get fixed and we can no longer save money by setting the machine to operate overnight as we are afraid that we will have a fire or something caused by an electrical fault in the machine.
It seems a a great pity the Electrolux are so badly let down by this machine performance as their efforts in supporting it have been first class in terms of having already replaced it twice.
I can only surmise that this machine has been a costly nightmare for them as they can hardly ignore its poor performance given its initial cost and billing as a premium product.
Disappointed
Very good machine – We bought this washing machine after a couple of Miele and an AEG Favorit because choice magazine rated it as one of the best at the time. No raised voices, no rudeness on my end. I get the feeling this model was a lemon, and they are sick of dealing with customers asking the same thing - so why did we spend over $800 on an item that lasted 5 years? Premium Range? – Six months out of warranty (mid 2011) this machine had a major breakdown, when I contacted Electolux and asked them about their understanding of implied warranty, while polite, pretty much amounted to, we can't do anything.. My problem, a bearing failure, which requires the machine to be almost completely stripped down for it to be replaced.… Read more
Electrolux, kept the third party repairer of my machine waiting for parts for one month before he could commence the work. $550 and one month later the machine was up and running doing what it does best, providing a barely adequate wash. It's main problem that the door glass does not rinse during the wash cycle and the rubber door seal fills with sludge at each wash which means, what might be clean washing risks and often does become dirty when coming into contact with these parts.
As for the "Ultra Silencer" that's a blatant misrepresentation of the reality, there is nothing in the construction of this machine that even hints at an attempt at noise abatement, no sound deadener or insulation just the thin sheet metal cabinet which lacks any structural integrity that is capable of withstanding the vibration caused by the spin cycle .
Since the earlier breakdown this machine has had a pump failure which sounds like a problem many others have had, the machine would stop mid cycle first intermittently (about a month) then finally terminally. In the space of four years this machine has incurred repair costs of approximately 2/3 of the cost of the new machine which was $1200. In my experience the only area to which the tag premium can be accurately applied to this product, is in its initial cost, along with parts and servicing pricing. I'll base this on a previous front loader I owned, a Gorenje (at the time the cheapest front loader on the market) which lasted a total of 14 years and eight (washing cloth nappies for 3 children) before its bearings failed which was repaired at 20% of the cost of the machine without needing to be stripped down.
I too, as another reviewer, was duped into purchasing this machine on the basis of a "Choice Magazine" recommendation.
Today Electrolux's response which I raised earlier would appear to be contrary to the new Commonwealth Consumer Law in-acted 1/1/12 which acknowledges implied warranty. Electrolux marketed this product as part of it's "premium range" creating a perception in a customer's mind that they were purchasing a product which would perform to higher standard than normal which in the case of this machine clearly is not the case. Their failure to stand by their product highlights the take the money and run attitude of this company. As far as future purchases of white goods are concerned the name "Electrolux" has been expunged from my consciousness.
Electrolux, quite plainly, do not deserve to be in business. Size, energy and water ratings "Choice Magazine" recomendation barely adequate wash, unreliable, poor quality construction, poor parts service, "Choice magazine" recomendation

filter because there is no drain working. I've done that 3 times to no avail and am sick of redoing it. Having had an Hitachi before this that never had a service call in 15 years and then went on to my daughter, I would not recommend this machine to anyone. The door has never closed by just closing the door. It has always had to be clipped closed by hand! For a thousand dollar machine this is not good. I cannot spend another $250 on it as that can go to a new machine rather than spend the total of $500 on this noisy and unreliable machine. Jexine
Expensive, noisy, needs expensive service calls, door does not close properly, computer section unreliable.
Out of extended warranty - problems – I took out an extended warranty on this machine, 5 years in total. Now one month out of warranty the programme does not rinse on cycles unless I stop it and start it again. Now I notice the soap is not going into the wash. The wash was hard on clothes as well when it did work. Don't think I would buy an other Electrolux. OK while it worked Hard on clothes. Did not last long enough.

Expensive price does not mean better quality – My Electrolux "Ultra Silencer" front loading washing machine EWF 1495 (purchase price of $1200) that I have had for 4 and a half years continues to stop in mid cycle – resetting itself as if the program has not commenced with no error messages being displayed. After struggling through many attempts to complete a load by doing a separate drain,… Read more
rinse and spin cycles I called a service representative who felt he was not sure as to the exact problem. He thought was the control panel, but couldn't be sure it wasn't the motor. He ran a diagnostic test that came up with an error 58 which implies problems with the motor.
He suggested to replace the control panel at a cost over $400 first and run it as usual. Then if problems persisted it would need a motor replacement, which would cost in excess of $500. I find it bitterly disappointing that only after a short period of time such a major problem has occurred and the cost to repair the machine (which of course is no guarantee that it will fix the problem), is almost the same as it would cost to purchase a new machine with a new warranty.
After contacting Electrolux customer care, (they certainly didn't "care" too much), offering only one option which was to buy a brand new replacement Electrolux machine at a slightly reduced price (staff discount) ... not satisfactory at all, and to be honest I don't think I am prepared to outlay a large investment again with the possibility of going through this pain again a few years down the track...
I will never buy this brand again and would advise you not to. Will replace it with a cheaper brand at half the price and be happy if I get 5 years out of it. These days it really does seem that price does not always reflect quality.
Had high energy and water consumption ratings. Unreliable and not Ultra silent as it's name suggested. Jet propelled would be more appicable. Clearly not value for money.
