Love our washing machine – We love this washing machine, we have had it for nine years now (over 5 house moves) and still going strong. We had to get it repaired once but the company that did it were amazing and it was inexpensive. I do 2-3 loads of washing most days (too many kids!) and it lives up to the challenge without a doubt! So many excellent features. will definitely buy the same brand if we need to replace this one in the future  Show details

No problems in 6 years! – This machine has always worked well. No problems at all. You can always fiddle with the settings to get a quicker wash but front loaders will always have longer cycle times anyway. I recently gave this one to me partner for her house and bought another electrolux which has a few nicer features. Second hand these represent great value for money.  Show details

Very reliable - 7 years and counting – I got this washing machine seven years ago and it's still going. It Cleans well. Just recently, the gasket needed to be replaced but that's a minor thing. It was the only hiccup it's had since we bought it. After that got sorted, it continued working just fine. Overall, a very realiable washing machine.  Show details

worst money ever spent – I cannot emphasise enough how unhappy we have been with this washing machine. It required its motherboard to be replaced within a year of purchase and has been problematic ever since. Fast track a few years to now, most of the cycles either don't work or stop with an error message continually. A one hour load takes up to 3 hours with constant… Read more

stopping and restarting. The ring seal around the door has cracked and leaks. I am counting down the days to when I can dispose of this lemon forever. Needless to say, I will never buy Electrolux again and have actively avoided this brand on all electrical purchases thanks to my experience with this washing machine.

Not a long life – This machine is only 6 years old and is having issues! An hour load takes nearly 2 hours as it keeps coming up with an E10 error message and I have to keep pressing start!!! Definitely did NOT agent my monies worth from this machine! Would NOT recommend to anyone  Show details

Good to see it's been discontinued – So disappointing to see this machine survive only 6 years of use - similar issues as other reviewers have mentioned - pause problems (fixed about 2 years ago), motherboard burnt out, need to spend the price of a new machine to fully repair it. Followed the technician's advice and have replaced it. Certainly not Electrolux again though. (Very happy with my Bosch dishwasher so I'm going with a Bosch w/m also - wish me luck.)  Show details

A very good machine – Served our family of SEVEN for twelve years! THAT speaks for this machines efficiency and reliability. You want more words? I highly recommend this machine to anyone. A shame it has been discontinued. I would've bought another. Show details

Long lifer! – Had this superb machine for over 11 years. Only ever used the same cycle. Love the delay start feature. Good on water, good on power, gentle on clothes, washes well. Never missed a beat. Only realised how long we’ve had it for when the door handle broke today ... probably brittle due to age! Opened door using one of the tricks on YouTube. So,… Read more ·  1

given it’s sterling service I reckon it’s absolutely worth the fifty bucks for a new handle to let her have a crack at another ten years!

It’s discontinued now, but we’d gladly buy another if this one ever actually ever lays down and dies!

10 years before first service call – Went perfectly for 10 years but something has gone wrong (stop mid way thru a wash) so I have called a service technician for tomorrow. I am sure I could figure it out by researching the error codes but couldn't be bothered at the moment. It's been such a good machine I am sure it's nothing too serious (I hope) Show details

Main computer board died – I have loved this machine. But 2 months after the extended warranty I bought at purchase expired, the main board has died. The cost of the repair + labour $340.00. The technician who looked at the machine also told me the motors brushes have worn and I probably have only have 1 maybe 2 years life left on the motor. Very disappointing. This machine was expensive to purchase initially and I thought it would last a lot longer.  Show details

machine keeps pausing – I have not had any issues with my machine however, recently I have noticed that it will pause itself and after hours of being out the machine is still at the same place. When i press the pause button it starts again. I have also noticed that sometimes if the machine only has a few items it wont spin. Anyone else had this issue?  Show details

Poor Life Span – We had the EWF1083 washer for only 6 years & had already had problems with the electronics panel 12 months prior to its failure. Everything was working fine except on/off/pause button - so easy fix?? Electrolux technician advised not so & a full mother board would need to be replaced = $300+. He also advised that the washing spindle was worn &… Read more

would only last another 12 months anyway. $145 for the pleasure of this call out advice. Strange as the washer has had only normal use for a small family of 3!! Evidently problems with the electronics embedded in this model! AVOID!!

Short life span – I bought this machine as it was very highly rated by Choice magazine. Guess lifespan can't be included in tests. Machine was fine until it died after 6 years - and having read other reviews will just by another machine (different brand) & not waste time & money with repair. Disappointed.  Show details

main power board gone and less than 6yrs old, light use – We weren't in the country six years ago and it was bought new when we arrived. Light use. I liked the dryness of the clothes. Now it won't turn on. With the call out fee to diagnose and the repair quote it will have cost us $460 to repair the thing. And then what will go wrong??  Show details

Control board failure - systemic fault? – Our EWF1083 washing machine failed recently. The machine has been reliable but at 7 years old it was not a straight forward decision as to whether to get it repaired. I rolled the dice and got the service technician out. Verdict - control board failure, cost to repair $300 including call out. I see from the other reviews that there are a high… Read more

Door handle broken – Hi has anyone else had a problem with the plastic door handle breaking off? It broke where the plastic mechanism joins the door handle. Am worried we may have to replace the whole door. The machine is not that old. I couldn't get my clothes out. Doesn't seem very good idea to have a door and mechanism made of plastic on an item that gets a lot of use.  Show details

Good washer... but disappointingly short life span – The Electrolux was a good washer while it worked - I was very happy with it. Clothes washed well and weren't damaged. Then after only 6 years and 5 months service it broke down and repairs cost more than the machine is worth. Apparently both the control board and motor needed replacing. Now its landfill.  Show details

Expensive throw-away machine – This machine was a wonderful machine until it died last week after only 5 years light use (only 2 in our family). Control board has died. Same as everyone else - Electrolux couldn't come for 10 days. When we paid the local guy to come he found the main bearing was stuffed too - ie machine not worth repairing. Suddenly not working after 5 years, 11 months – Like many of the other reviewers, it appears our washing machine's fuse board needs replacing after 5 years, 11 months because suddenly our washing machine is dead, no power at all - very timely given the extended warranty has now lapsed. Typical powerboard problem – I've had the machine for 5 and a half years. It works fine and washed well although lately my partner complains it isn't washing exercise gear very well, ie the smell isn't completely out of the clothes and they have to be rewashed. wouldn't turn on. Mysteriously after the 7 days the machine came on again and has worked fine until now. Same thing as last year, power to the machine but machine not powering on. Called Electrolux and the best they could do was $140 call out fee for an apt in 10 days. Who can go that long without a WM? Called a repair guy, came the next day. $110 call out fee and in 10 mins he said it was the powerboard. What a coincidence, other reviewers here have the same issue, power board goes after 5 or 6 years. Quote is $255 for new board and $50 to fit. I'm giving it a go and will report back with the result. Should be fixed Friday. Like others I wont be buying electrolux again. This is obviously a faulty part, which they seem to be aware of because they check these forums.

It's interesting to note that Electrolux ask some people to contact them but not others.

You get what you pay for – I had a Bosch front loading machine that lasted about 6 years and the power board burnt out. Repair man said don't bother fixing. So I replaced it in 2010 with a new EWF 1083 electrolux front loader. After 3 years the Drum spring supports on one side broke through the aluminium framing, causing the motor to dent the back of the machine. I… Read more

"rebridged" both sides' spring supports with long steel nails. Other problems included the door latch having to be replaced and also a belt. A stuck coin resulted in it being completely dismantled to free the drum. Despite using fabric softener, towels were always hard. I nearly got 5 years use from it before it stopped working. So I dragged my son's older Electolux EWF 1495 front loader out from under the shed [ he had used it for 6 months before a relationship went sour] and managed to get about 15 months use from it before it too stopped - on Tuesday [14/6/2016] - actually it wouldn't start. Only the door indicator light would come on. On Wednesday I bought and Asko. The moral of the story is you get what you pay for. I expect 8 years plus from the Asko.

Worst washing machine I've owned. Never buying Electrolux again – My experience is much the same as others here. Initially it worked really well, just like the Choice review. But around 3 years in the inlet valves started playing up and rinse cycles would fill slowly or not at all. I used a hose to fill when required through the detergent drawer and that got us through for a couple of years until I decided to… Read more

get the valves replaced.

As soon as the new valves were in - the mainboard died. The $300+ quoted repair cost sealed the fate of this machine; I bought a new LG front loader to replace it as I've had two LGs before and got 10+ years out of them both. Very happy with the new LG and will not be touching Electrolux again.

I'm a true believer in front loaders but this one is a disaster and lets the team down big time.

Front loaders: a backward step in washing machine evolution? – We purchased this machine in 2010, based on advice from Choice magazine, and it has done a good job washing everyday clothes and delicates. Admittedly, at time of purchase, Choice warned about the problems with washing towels in front loaders, however we were concerned for the environment and wanted to save water. Since then no matter what we… Read more

have done e.g. using white vinegar, extra rinse etc, our towels have come out like wire brushes. They are so scratchy our grandson refuses to use them when he visits. They are only bearable if they are dried in the drier - defeating our hopes of saving energy! To boot, today a service man (callout fee $145) advised we needed to replace the power board ($150) - for the second time in 6 years! We told him to leave it. So we are abandoning the breaking-back, front loader scene and going back to top loading with all its evils - hopefully something very simple with analogue dials, since we never used most of the fancy-dandy programs the front loader offered!! Sometimes new technology throws the baby out with the washing water.

All great - until it stopped working – Bought ours end of 2010, has been workimg reliably until it stopped working without notice, no error messages. Just had the repair guy out to find out the electrical board has 'burnt out'. Been quoted roughly $300 to replace the board 'if it's available'... After reading these reviews I'm not sure I'll bother.

So disappointed – I previously thought Elctrolux was such a reputable brand but I will not trust my monety to Electrolux again. 2 months out of my 5 year extended warranty the machine stops spinning, then the drum stops rotating completely. Quoted repairs are in excess of $500, will spend on a better brand!!

Dying Electrolux – Purchased in June 2010 and have read similar reviews here. Seems to be an ongoing issue with Electrolux where the circuit board goes bust after 5 years. No warning - just died – Purchased the EMF 1083 in 2010. Generally an OK machine over the past few years with only minor (solvable) issues. Now, without warning the unit has stopped. It is able to fill with water and that's it. No movement of the drum - nothing at all. No error code nothing. Advise from the repair agent is that the circuit board is most likely the cause.… Read more

Oh boy, wasn't I wrong!!! – After a lot of research found this machine five years ago. At the beginning I was very happy and gave it 4 stars. That was until a year ago (4 years after purchase), the water stop valve broke whilst we were not home and flooded my apartment causing $7K of damage. The whole bamboo flooring had to be replaced. We got it repaired, but 8 months… Read more

later is now leaking from underneath. No need to say that this time, is off. I bought a Miele online, which will definetively prevent leaks. It is a pricey machine, but not as pricey as having to replace the whole flooring!

Washes OK (not brilliant), there is some wear on some cloth items. It used to be quiet but that work out very quickly. Favorites features? None really as technology changed a lot in 5 years and now most of the competitors for the price of this appliance has them for a much cheaper price. Excellent quality and value for money, clothes come really clean. TIME MANAGEMENT in a front loader is great. Delay start function is fantastic.

Great - Until warranty runs out – I bought in 2010, after 3 year warranty ran out it was problem after problem. Money pit and repairman not helpful at all. Looks like we we lucky until now – Bought the EWF1083 in May 2010, guided by Choice review, can't really test for long term reliability in a review of lot of machines. We have not suffered the collapsed drum yet, or the damaged door seal, plastered through the reviews, but the common control board failure has struck now! Started to get stuck in cycles, and the odd blank timer screen. Now just blank, lit up timer display. Seems to do functions individually if selected, though does not move on to next cycle function.

Tried the power down reset, no luck!

0.00 did flash for just a second, thought timer up or down button had something to do with it, but no luck.

Not worth getting the board professionally replaced, big cost and who knows what else is close to failure.

No more Electrolux stuff for us, judging by the responses people got from customer care.

Did anyone get helped out by them? Who is on the 'Sorry you had a bad experience with your machine' email detail now?

Did anyone get in contact with the email writers ever?

To Electrolux, if you get the design wrong you have to look after your customers or word gets around, just ask VW with their gearboxes, and software. Just plain poor customer management sadly.

Run away people! – I've had this machine for 4 years and sadly it has not been a happy 4 years. It first ceased working 1 month out of warranty when the drum hanger broke. replaced that($130). Then it was the turn of the control board to fail ($80), I replaced that. Now it shook it self to death with 2 x single bed sheets inside. The rear drum casing has broken where the suspension spring attaches, a $400 part. Add in the 4-5 times I have had to remove the tub drain hoses to clear blockages as well. Good bye to my first and last Electolux washer. Have a nice life at the tip.

Machine should come with a repairman – Purchased machine in 2011 and have had the repairman out 3 times. Once because water just poured out from underneath and twice because it wouldn't spin. It appears the power board has now gone. In 25 years we've had a Hoover 2 Whirlpools and now Electrolux. All have been disappointing. At this rate we will have tried every brand in our lifetime.
