Ergobaby Swaddler Lightweight Mesh

It doesn’t secure the arms – I bought this swaddle being new to swaddling a baby. I quickly found that much cheaper Velcro swaddled worked great but this one, which I paid significantly more money for, allowed my baby to raise her hands out from the wrapping (although still within the mesh arm pockets) to her mouth. This disrupts her sleeping and I’ve noticed she wakes more often on nights I have her in this swaddle as opposed to my other swaddles. This swaddle essentially doesn’t swaddle her at all as no matter how carefully and securely I wrap her, she gets her arms up and hands to her mouth. Very disappointing.
Purchased in for $34.95.
Only swaddle my baby liked – I found this to be a great swaddle and we used it right up to transitioning to a sleeping bag. We also tried the love to dream and ergococoon swaddles, but bubs never liked them as the stretchy fabrics of those brands seemed to encourage her to struggle and try and free her arms. What I liked about the ergo swaddle was - hip healthy design gave so much room for legs to be in the froggy position, much better than some narrower fit swaddles; fastening with Velcro means no noisy zipper to do up if trying to get baby into swaddle after she’s asleep; easy to put on once you figure it out; easy to get arms nice and firm so no wiggling; bubs rarely got her arms out and if she did the between leg strap meant the fabric didn’t move up over her face; able to swaddle under arms or with only one arm in when we wanted to transition. We had both the cotton and the lightweight mesh - the cotton was sturdier and as a result easier to put baby to sleep as it allowed for firmer wrapping. It was a bit hot for warm weather though.
The only cons in my opinion was that it’s an expensive swaddle (but what baby product isn’t) and I wished that it was longer as my baby grew out of them before 3 months.
Having said that, I used it every single night within that time and she’s was sleeping through the night at about 6 weeks so if that’s the price of a good sleep, so be it!
Baby can easily get arms up covering face – I wish I would have read the reviews on this I did have a great cheaper swaddle but unfortunately it was not very long and my baby could kick the bottom off. After searching in the shop for a while I chose the ergo baby light mesh swaddle thinking with this price tag that it would be great and had the length my baby needed but unfortunately he can very easily get his arms up to his face as as they are strapped onto the sections it his hands and blanket which are tightly wrapped are then cover his face so I’m too worried to keep on using this now...disappointed as like all things for baby I need to wash it first so will probably have trouble returning it!
Hi Dani, I'm sorry to hear that our swaddle hasn't met your needs at this time. Some bubs do prefer their arms out of the swaddler so we do find that a lot of parents use our swaddle with one or both arms out (transition swaddling). The arm pockets though should ensure the bub's arms are kept nice and secure if you choose to have bubs arms swaddled across his body. I'm not entirely certain what you mean when you say that his arms are "strapped onto the sections". Do you mean that he is trying to wriggle his arms free and in the process the swaddler and blanket are pulled up over his face? If this is the case, ensure that his arms are placed securely in the arm pockets and that his arms are wrapped securely around his body with the Velcro fastened tightly. This way the arms shouldn't be able to escape too easily. I hope this helps and allows you to perhaps try and the swaddler again. Thank you again for taking the time to review our Swaddler.
Not ideal – I bought two of these wraps based on the good reviews here. It seemed like a great theory and would mean my husband could easily wrap our newborn. However, she has been able to get her arms and the fabric up over her face and mouth no matter how tight we wrap or where we position her arms. We love Ergobaby products but I'm too scared to keep using these as she can get the fabric over her mouth and nose. For the price paid, I'm disappointed.
Hi Amanda, Thankyou for taking the time to review our Swaddler. I am sorry to hear that you are disappointed in your purchase. It's difficult to assess why this issue is occuring in on an online platform, but it is definitely a worry to hear that your baby is able to position the fabric over her mouth and nose. This is not a common issue we have heard of happening before. As such there would be 3 things to look at to ensure bub is safely swaddled:
1. Are bubs arms securely positioned in the arm pockets? Is the fabric wrapped securely around her upper arms prior to placing them in the hand to heart position?
2. Are her arms placed correctly in the hand to heart position? This is the only way her arms should be positioned when being swaddled. Once you are trasition swaddling her arm/arms can be unsecured but until then they should be positioned hand to heart.
3. Is the velcro wrapped around bub and secured tight enough?
These are the three main things to be checking when swaddling your bub using our Swaddler. If you are doing all these things and the same issue is occuring, it may be worth phoning our customer care line so that you are able to talk through the issues you are having. It is disappointing to purchase a product and not be able to get the optimum use out of it so if we can help in any way we definitely will. Our Customer Service number is 1300 725 276. We hope this assists you.
Not what I expected – This is a nice swaddle I got the lightweight one my son is an escape artist when it comes to swaddles he will get his arms out then wake himself up so I thought this would be perfect since the arms go into little pockets. The problem is that he does not just lie still while I out it on so getting him arms straight and then tucking them into the proper position never worked well then he would bring his arms up near his face and it would start to cover his face so I took it off and went back to the old style swaddles. Kind of disappointing as I had hoped this would work better for us in especially liked that you could remove the bottom part to strap into swings and chairs but it just didn't work out for us
Hi Julie, Sorry to hear that the Swaddler didn't quite work for your little escapologist. It sounds like you weren't able to securely wrap his arms in the arm pockets with the flaps tucked right around his arms, so your little Houdini managed to wiggle free.
