Ergolux RX8M Massage Gaming Office Chair
2 reviews
Poorly designed, essentially unusable – The padding is too thin, resulting in the massage motor units stabbing into you when sitting. There does not appear to even be any heating function, despite it being advertised. The headrest is too low and protrudes into your back.
Purchased in at Kogan.com for $150.
This chair does not know what it wants to be – This is sold as a massage chair, gaming chair and office/ desk chair. It either performs poorly or fails in all 3 categories. It uses these key selling points/ descriptors: Full body 8-point vibration with 5 massage modes Multi-layered foam padded seat, headrest and armrests High back with cushioned lumbar support and heating function Set your desired setting via the remote control
Knowing what is advertised lets look at the product and what you get for about $160.00
To start with with we can discard the gaming marketing nonsense. It should be comfortable enough for work and gaming but that is any decent chair. What should set it apart is the massage function. These are the reasonable expectations from the listing.
To give some context. I am not heavy. I am of average height.
To begin with there is the seat. The most important part of a chair. The padding is too thin. This seems to be to allow the massage system to work but in turn the seat is hard, bumpy and unpleasant. There seems to be little padding in any area covered by mesh fabric.
This problem extends to the back rest. The padding is too thin. These 2 elements together make it unpleasant to sit on for a day of work or a long session of video games. The seat is distracting and unpleasant.
The seat itself is awkward by design. It relies on two parts to give you range of motion. The central gas piston for vertical movement. This fie and common to all chairs of its kind. The small, single, side piston for horizontal movement is less impressive. It causes the chair to tilt uncomfortably.
Than we need to look at the massage element. I believe this is why there is so little padding to the chair. These motors/ units are anaemic with little to no push or pull power. All they do is shake. This becomes unpleasant after a few minutes. It should also pulse, wave and press.
When not being used the massage parts stick out from the cushion/ padding and are actually quite uncomfortable. The heater part of the massage function may as well not exist as it does not seem to have an effect. At best it is well below body temperature which defeats the point of heating the chair if I can just sit on it and make it warmer than the heater does.
The remote offers options. Do they mean anything? Not really. There is lots of rumble or a bit less rumble. The body part selection is pointless when all it does is focus the rather unpleasant rumbling to a more narrow area. If you only want to be in only some discomfort this might be helpful?
In summary. Is it an acceptable chair? Yes. Is it worth the cost? No. Would I recommend it? No.
