Eveready

In April this year (2025), my wife picked up two six volt extra heavy duty EverReady batteries (for our home alarm system), from a local store in Tea Tree Gully (South Australia). They cost $40 for the two, and they were both sealed in their factory plastic bubble wrap 'shroud'. I've been using the very same EverReady batteries for the alarm system for the last fifty years; changing them about once a year, and I've never ever had any problems in the past with them. After installing them, I tested the alarm system...and nothing happened. The system was as dead as a dodo! I then had to undo all the work I'd put in to installing them...checked the batteries on a meter...and they were both TOTALLY DEAD! The meter needle didn't even move. Unfortunately we couldn't find the cash docket, so I got in touch with EverReady by email. The worst thing I could have done...hoping to get sense from a company which is worth billions. Where the ones I communicated with, had absolutely NO idea how to treat a customer. For the next four months, they put me through absolute hell. They didn't believe a word I said, and had me send them snapshots of every single marking on the batteries. Over and over...repeat after repeat. I just could not get these ******* ****** to believe anything I said. Finally, they made an offer to me...they'd send me two new batteries for $19 (for both), but I had to pay any taxes, and postage and packing on top of that. I kept on at them, until they upped the offer to $28. By this time, I'd had enough, so, I bought a couple more of their batteries, which I checked before installing, this time. I have nothing against the batteries...I've used them for years, as I said, but putting up with these absolute morons who work for EverReady, left a very bad taste in my mouth. From now on I will be checking and testing every EverReady battery I buy. I still can't believe that a company that is worth billions, put up such a fight for a few dollars. Whichever ignoramus I was 'dealing' with, never once put his/her name on the insulting emails they sent me. Otherwise I'd have dropped a note to Consumer Affairs.
