 AI reviews summary

The overall sentiment for E.Z Locksmith is highly polarised, with reviews either praising rapid response times or alleging predatory pricing and deceptive business practices. While many customers appreciate the speed and technical skill of specific technicians like Chris, Felix, and Ben, a significant number of reports highlight a recurring pattern of bait-and-switch pricing. These negative experiences frequently involve undisclosed fees, aggressive "up-selling" upon arrival, and pressure to provide 5-star reviews in exchange for discounts.

Pros
Rapid Response: Technicians frequently arrive within 15 to 30 minutes, providing effective solutions for emergency lockouts and urgent repairs.
Technical Proficiency: Locksmiths are often described as highly skilled, capable of opening complex locks quickly and performing clean installations without damaging property.
Professional Demeanour: Specific staff members (notably Chris, Felix, and Ben) are repeatedly commended for being polite, reassuring, and easy to deal with during stressful situations.
Availability: The service is noted for its reliability during out-of-hours periods, including late nights, weekends, and public holidays.
Cons
Misleading Pricing: Multiple reports cite a "bait-and-switch" tactic where a $29 call-out fee is advertised, but final bills exceed $500–$900 due to undisclosed "urgency," "after-hours," or "labour" fees.
Review Manipulation: Several customers claim they were pressured to write 5-star reviews on the spot to receive a discount or to lower an unexpectedly high final invoice.
Lack of Documentation: Users frequently report that technicians refuse to provide itemised invoices, demand payment via bank transfer, or issue receipts that do not match the agreed-upon price.
Poor Communication: Significant complaints exist regarding the failure to disclose call-out fees or service charges during the initial phone booking, leading to disputes upon arrival.
Verdict

E.Z Locksmith is a viable option for those prioritising speed and immediate access in an emergency, provided the customer is willing to pay a significant premium. However, due to widespread reports of price gouging and deceptive quoting practices, users should insist on a total written quote before the technician begins any work.

Deceptive practices with vague quotes and insane pricing, advertising 15 minute call outs and taking 50 minutes. 3 times more expensive than any other local locksmith.

The prices are exorbitant. $1711 to pick 2 locks and rekey 6 standard residential locks with physical keys (non-motorised). We were originally quoted $2566, but the man saw that we were very upset by the price, so he reduced the price. I still think he overcharged us. The receipt was also very vague and confusing.

Overpriced, poor experience. Got charged $1300 to unlock staff 3 lockers and change lock barrels on 5 lockers. 1hr job. The guy fixed the wrong locker, when asked to come back, he promised he would but didn't. Stay away.

Routine change of door handle cost 723.80. Pricing completely misleading in value. Invoice not issued and when I requested the invoice, it didn’t match the agreed itemised pricing and according to them, this does not matter as long as the total price is the same. I was offered 20% refund of the total price as a sign of goodwill which I declined. I… Read more

Not actually a locksmith. Did thousands of dollars damage while trying to install a lock and would not reimburse. Consumer Affairs also have warnings out for them.Locksmith was called Ron.

Guy just destroyed my door and split the side before telling me he can’t install the door handle. Before allowing him on my premises, I asked both him and the operator separately if the installers are qualified. I was told yes but that’s obviously false. Their website also advertises their installers are qualified & experienced. The guy drilled… Read more

the hole so large in the door I have no idea what he was thinking - how does the lock barrel even get screwed in?? He then tried to tell me the screws were wrong & I needed to change the handle & lock. It didn't matter what screw you have if there is no wood in the door to secure it against. Wanted me to pay after trashing my door. Told him to beat it. Seriously, save yourself a nightmare experience & avoid these guys

Don’t use these [Content Removed]/[Content Removed] to get your locks fixed. They came to change 2 locks and charged $500. But didn’t tell me that the handle they installed was too big which rendered my security door and original door useless. After 2 months of trying to contact them they finally responded saying I’d need to pay more for them to… Read more

come and have a look at the issue THEY CAUSED. They have operated under many different names. ‘[Name Removed]’ is their latest name change. Just the same people. Long story short: stay away from any name that seems like a large company. It’s probably them. Use someone local! [Content Removed]

Absolute con artists, we required an addition lock fitted to replace a lock that had no key and to fix or replace another lock, the guy was supposed to come between 2-4 arrived after 4:30, gave one quote of $654 for both locks but then only had one… Read more

lock with him which he has now charged us more than he said for both locks!!! and i can now see that i can buy the exact lock online locally for $90 which comes with two cylinders and keys, they want $180 for each cylinder and $350 for the lock!!! $710 for a $90 lock. the technician also lied when asked why the locks were so expensive (when we were going to get two), claimed they were "commercial locks and cost more". DO NOT TRUST THIS LOCKSMITH (which is most likely just a bunch of random subcontractors)

Follow-up  · These guys are still dodgy con artists, they were fined for their misconduct by the NSW Police https://www.police.nsw.gov.au/online_services/sled/security_licences/significant_enforcement_actions/significant_enforcement_actions_content/significant_enforcement_actions_2024 , they also constantly post fake 5 star reviews to offset the 1 star reviews… Read more

Wish i could give these guys a 0. Website is full of false claims. 29 dollar call out fee 15mins arrival= too good to be true. Ended up paying 950 to get back into my house. There was a lockout fee of 469??? Urgency service fee 299 and weekend fee… Read more

of 99??? Absolute scam i cant believe i paid it. Im just writing this review in the hope someone else will see this and avoid being scammed.

Do not hire these guys, scammers and like to take advantage of people in s stressful situation

Follow-up  · Just an update on the review. And response to some questions. Still absolutely filthy about it. Not a small amount of money. The damage has not been repaired. Did i get a quote, i did n they said 29 dollar call out fee, there was no mention of these extra fees. What caused the lock out, 2 parts, firstly myself by walking out of home without… Read more

Roy was absolutely amazing — truly a legend. He opened a complex 5-pin lock in the blink of an eye after we accidentally locked ourselves out. He was very modest, yet completed the job quickly and with great quality. We’re extremely happy with his service. Highly recommended.

I requested a quote to have my locks rekeyed and made it clear during the initial call that I only wanted the quote. I was told that the quote could only be provided onsite, but at no stage was I informed that a call‑out fee would apply. When the technician arrived, the quote provided was not acceptable to me, and I was then charged a call‑out… Read more

fee that had never been disclosed. The issue is not the fee itself — it is the lack of transparency and clear communication. Had I been advised upfront, I would have made a different decision.

In addition, the attitude and professionalism of the technician who attended were well below expectations. Overall, the experience was disappointing and does not reflect the level of service I anticipated.

Very disappointed to be charged over $600 for a 2 minute job. The guy Nicko talked so long, used “god bless” if this job was a quick job and the lock didn’t need breaking, which it didn’t but still charged above the quoted amount. I argued the $100 urgency call out” because I was not told that he was in the middle of another job and he rushed out… Read more

to us. Nicko called his boss to waiver the urgency but it still ended up more than what it should have been, claiming he didn’t care because all he got was the hourly wage. He charged over the $495 or so for the 6 pin barrel and the $29 call out. BEWARE. Do not recommend.

To be honest, very unhappy . The guy who came to our house had limited knowledge . Did nothing and charged 99 AUD callout fee . Be careful recommending to call someone else .

$29 call out fee but wouldnt quote over the phone on arrival over $500 to unlock a front door at 2pm on saturday took one look at it said its restricted, took a plate off and drilled a hole, total time taken 2mins, then wanted me to pay by bank transfer and i would get an invoice after. In hindsight would have been cheaper to book a hotel for 2 nights and pick up a key monday morning

EZ Locksmiths 03 4050 9171 https://ezlocksmith.com.au I was in need of a locksmith and call them. They quoted a $29 flat call out fee and arrive in 15 mins. I called at 2pm and they said that they could arrive between 4pm and 6pm. Which I was fine with. Then at 5pm they called and said 6:10pm was earliest they can arrive by. They arrived at… Read more

6:20pm, quoted $245 to fix first lock and $120 to fix second lock. AFTER the job was finished they asked for the $365 PLUS the $29 flat call out fee PLUS $150 for AFTER HOURS work despite the booking taking place at 2PM PLUS 15% labour fee and 10% GST. YES I know I was being scammed and could have just paid the $400 ($394 to be exact) but after a long day and alot of arguing I just CBF arguing any further so ended up paying $600 to settle it.
