Used to you use it – used to apply to all my indoor timbers but can't find it in Bunnings anymore Show details
Does what it says – Used 2 liters of this product in a 200sqm new house build. All window and door architraves, jambs etc were in American white Oak. Product was applied by wiping in typical fashion for finishing oils. Found only two coats required for desired satin oil finish on the hard wood timber. Imparted (or exposed) a very attractive amber colour to(of) the… Read more
timber. I occasionally used three coats in areas I desired a sheen. Found it was unsuitable for (interior side of) window sills because it stained when exposed to rain splashes. These sills later refinished with UV resistant satin poly, to match side and top of the window returns. It was quick drying (cf raw tung oil and linseed oils) was able to recoat after 20hrs with absolute confidence. Product obviously includes dryers and has been thinned for optimal ease of application . That was 5 years ago. I transferred 2 remaining liters (from 4l can) to smaller dark-coloured airless glass containers and the product remains usable for touch ups and new jobs to this day. It performs as advertised except for the water staining.
Absolutely amazing finish! – Hubby and I recently bit off more than we could chew with our dream home. After ripping up carpet and lino to find the most amazing original wooden floors, the research began! We spent an unexaggerated 10 days sanding back two bedrooms, hallway, dining room and kitchen. Knowing full well we needed something long lasting, hard wearing, easy to… Read more
apply and something with a beautiful finish, We decided on Tung oil because of its hard finish and ability to present the natural beauty of the floor boards. And wow we were not disappointed! We wanted a matte finish as not to show up every scratch etc but the ting oil is so hard even after 18 months it is in perfect condition.
We are so in love with our floors and constantly get compliments from friends and family.
Kitchen bench Tung oil – I used the food safe Tung oil for my chopping boards. Used as directed, sanded and applied 2 coats and left to dry for two days. Using this product instead of plain mineral oil was a Big mistake. A month later and my kitchen still stinks like a petrol station despite keeping the boards in a cupboard to hide the stink. The oils made the chopping… Read more
boards look good but the overbearing stench is literally a massive headache. It smells like I soaked my kitchen boards in turps and 6 weeks later the odor still transfers to food used on board so now I will be throwing them out. Stay away from this product!!
Not sure how much of it is actually Tung Oil – The bulk of this product is mostly turpentine. Needs to be accurately labeled so consumers know that it is not Tung Oil as the tin says. A label that gives this information will allow consumers to make more informed decisions, especially when they are searching for pure tung oil. The MSDS doesn't even list tung oil as an ingredient. My natural teak statue is now dark brown. Not happy – Tung oil discoloured my natural unstained timber statue. A big difference in colour! From a pretty light beige colour to a dark brown. I am sorry I used this product.
