Fisher & Paykel AquaSmart WL80T65DW1

Read the reviews carefully – Lint left, unbalanced continually, and some clothes and sheets need rewashing after washing. I don't ever have dirty items, but many come out dirty after washing. Its aqua smart meaning frugal with water, but you actually need water to wash clothes. While frugal with water the cycle takes over an hour so expensive on power. Read the reviews… Read more
carefully because it appears some are very questionable in their endorsing such a woeful washing machine that should have been recalled. After staying in Timeshares throughout the world using hundreds of washing machines over the years, this machine is the worst I have ever encountered.
leaves lint and a white residue on darks – Does not wash blacks well, leaves a residue of powder or lint? Have tried cleaning machine several times and changing to liquid but still can't get a good wash on darks. Show details
4 Towels – Trying to wash 4 towels. 4. Towels. I've reset it about 20 times now due to unbalancing. 4 towels. Absolutely ridiculous. Machine leaks, unbalances, leaves lint on clothes, basically what all other complaints are about. This thing is actually struggling to wash 4 towels. 1 bath towel and 3 hand towels to be exact. What a joke. Show details
Worst machine I ever owned – It leaves marks and lint on clothes. They come out dirtier than they went it! Shocking machine! I will never buy another Fisher and Paykel again. It is criminal that this company sell such a dodgy mavpchine and we should all get refunds. It unbalances most washes and beeps at you and takes a long time to go thru a cycle. Terrible!! Eating my words – Re my review of Worst Washing Machine Ever. I contacted Fisher & Paykel and they were very helpful as to how to try & resolve my problem over the phone. I decided to get a technician to look at it. He arrived on time and fixed my machine promptly. I must say it is running perfectly with new balancing struts. All up cost with labour $230. The service was excellent and I'm happy I don't have to go out and buy a new machine. Show details
Happy with it – I am happy with my washing machine, not sure which model exactly other than that it's a 8Kg model. I did recently have a problem with it where the stabilizer rod has worn out but I'm sure it's due to wear and tear. Initially I was reluctant to ring F&P to come out as they charge call out fee plus parts and I was concerned that it would cost me… Read more
over $400 to fix. The service person who came out was extremely friendly and professional so thumbs up to him and for making the effort to come out to our place on a Sat when he doesn't service our area.
Luckily it cost me $230 so now it's back up and running and operational.
A friend of ours said their machine died after 5years and they had to replace it entirely.
The con about this machine is that even on warm wash, the water doesn't come out warm but instead, it puts hot water into the machine first before it puts cold water and this does damage clothing especially pants with elastic waistband which stretches over period of time.
Hate this washing machine – Like the majority of people on these reviews I hate it. Can't wait until it breaks down so I can get a new washing machine. Biggest problem is white powdery marks on dark clothes and sludgy brown marks on white clothes. Gets unbalanced with towels and sheets. Some cycles take way too long
unbalanced – I am having problems with every wash when it comes to the spin cycle it becomes unbalanced and constantly bleeps. Even on the 'clean me' cycle without a load it will do the same. I have checked the suspension and it all looks ok, the machine is perfectly level too. When it is on the spin it makes large bangs, especially when on the 'clean me'… Read more
cycle, and will actually move across the floor!! Why is it doing this and how do I fix it? I have had the machine for 7 years and there was no problem until about 6 months ago.
Success at last – I have found the same problems as others with my machine. I purchased it because it was supposed to save water and because my previous F & P machine was excellent. After 4 years of total frustration I have finally worked out how to do a reasonable but slow wash. I use the delicate cycle for everything but sheets and leave it on SOAK.. This takes… Read more
ages but the clothes arent thrashed to pieces, there is no horrible lint and I dont have to untie knots from shirt sleeves. No need to discard wrecked ripped clothes any more. The sheets are still a problem as they all seem to slip inside the fitted one to form a ball which sets off the balance button. I can hardly wait for the machine to fail so as I can get another. So far the only other problem is that the conditioner facility doesnt work and is constantly full of dirty water. I only do 3 loads per week so I may be waiting a long time for this machine to clap out.
Rubbish, wish I had never bought it – This machine is terrible. Clothes always come out covered in lint(& yes I wash the right things together & have cleaned the machine thoroughly), sheets end up in a tight ball which is hopeless if you want them clean/lint free. I wash all loads NOT on the water saving mode to try & help these problems to no avail(it still puts very little extra… Read more
water in which is very annoying). Half the time it will add water, start washing, then take water back out(once again when it's NOT on water saving mode) which I find ludicrous, I'M NOT TRYING TO SAVE WATER YOU STUPID MACHINE!!!! ONCE THE WATER IS IN THERE IT MAY AS WELL STAY IN THERE!!! WHY WASTE IT DOWN THE DRAIN, WITH MY DETERGENT!!!!!?????? I've also had to replace the bowl support springs after way too short a period. All up a bad experience & will NEVER buy Fisher & Paykel again. I know this machine is a bit older model now but have had no joy from it since getting it. To add more about this absolute piece of SHIZZ. I was sitting in my office 2 nights ago and heard this funny noise, it took me a few seconds to realize that it was water spraying in the laundry in the next room. I ran in to find the hot water hose had blown/plastic broke right at the tap. Luckily I was at home and in the next room as I would have had a flooded out house. $85 later for some aftermarket Electrolux ones to replace them, no way was I buying genuine ones. I don't ever turn the taps off but am thinking now I should, although the guy said these ones are very good and don't need to be turned off. WARNING- Turn your taps off if you don't want your house flooded!!! I already hate this machine with a passion and this is just another drama/expense, I would have absolutely lost my shizz if the house got flooded. Someone should be in jail over this crap!!! P.S.- I asked the guy at the appliance shop that I just bought the new hoses from how they find Fishy & Pieceof products, he said they won't even service them!!!! Says it all really. Lesson learned. P.S. Have recently replaced the bowl support springs AGAIN!!! What a nugget!!!
No wonder it was discontinued – This was the worst washing machine I have ever had. I too had the soap scum and tangled clothes, but it was the constant 'out of balance' behavior that finally drove me insane! Have just been out and bought myself a new appliance and would like to push the F&P under a bus. I will never recommend this brand to anyone.
No wonder it was discontinued – My first appliance purchase as an independent male. I thought the poor results were a result of my domestic ineptitude. Followed the instructions to the letter, blamed the liquid detergent, stopped the water efficiency....all to no avail. I know lemon is common in many cleaning products but this lemon doesn't clean anything. F&P, never again.
Bad – Have followed your instructions. Fingers crossed it works as I have also experienced scum constantly on my clothes, too long cycles and creased washing. Not a machine I will be recommending.

Know better, choose better.
Leaves washing dirtier than before – Bought this machine 6 years ago for its water and energy savings. Mechanically it's been fine, not had the problems that others have posted. However the washing comes out with those grimey/lint smears as others have mentioned, kind of misses the key goal of a clothes washer. So then we have to re-wash in our front loader Electrolux bought at the… Read more
same time (big family) which then cancels out the energy and water savings. Yes we've done extensive and frequent maintenance cleans as per instructions, and handy hubby has whiled away many hours looking for grimey residue nooks and crannies. We don't use fabric softener which apprently makes it worse because of the lanolins. Hoping I can find a mechanic or other workplace that doen't need to get washing clean to buy the F&P. Also experience the tangling and creasing, and am sick of crinkle cut clothes. (The Electrolux Time Manager cleans clothes well and still chugging away. Before buying the two mentioned we had a one very reliable, old school Hoover top loader for about 7 years. Now considering a Miele front loader to replace the F&P.)
Finally Solved the F&P Aquasmart Lint Problem – Have a 5 year old Aquasmart WL80T65D and finally had enough with the lint problem soiling clothes. Bought the extended warranty and convinced the company to send out a technician who gave me some great advice and showed me how to clean the bowl. Option 1: About every 3 to 6 months, add 250g of dishwashing powder to the cleaning cycle (check your… Read more
book). Option 2 (this one is guaranteed!): a. lift the lid and pop the two plastic caps off on the top/front/left and right. b. unscrew the 2 screws with a Phillips head screw driver. c. on the back, rotate the hold/cold inlet holes horizontally so you don't snap them in the next step d. lift the top section of the washing machine (it is hinged at the back). e. unclip the rubber balance straps off each corner (just pop them upwards). f. Unclip the bowl cap (it is clipped about every 150mm) with your finger tips and take it out. g. with a large spanner or multi-grip pliers, turn the bowl shaft cap (in the bottom/middle of the bowl as you look in) anti-clockwise (as you look in from the top). It will then turn easily with you fingers - simply unscrew. h. take agitator out i. holding the sides of the bowl simply lift it out and take it outside to clean. All of the above is not difficult - it takes me less than 5 minutes. You will notice the outside of the bowl is filthy with lint and there is your problem! I pressure-clean my bowl but you could simply scrub. Reinstallation is the reverse of the above. No more lint for an otherwise pretty good machine!
Worst Washing Meachine ever - Award – F&P we all know times are tough and sales targets keep going up however this business model of developing and selling crap products that don't perform are unreliable, expensive, need constant attention before completing a full cycle, annoy and frustrate customers is going to stop and see you exposed for what you really are "Charlatan's". other reviewers we have had our "AquaSmart" (smart only by name not by performance, reliability or function) WL80T65D for 7.5 years. And yes like the others early on the machine would beep, unbalance, leave white streaks of washing power residue on our clothes, produce greasy soap clumps and smear this through the clothes, not to mention the best feature on this machine the "Ultra-Flimsy Plastic Breakable Lid" that would crack at the hinge when you lifted it and let it fall back into the open position.
F&P I will be invoicing you $1000 for the labour, truck hire and tipping fee to remove your piece of junk this will makes as square.
Yes reviewers like you I will NOT be purchasing another F&P product ever again. Tell your friends
Folky
Worst machine ever – No matter what I do the clothes come out with some white film on them. I use the correct washing liquid, keep dark stuff together (which is mainly where this happens)....It is SO annoying....everything has to be wiped over with a damp rag. Can not wait for it to blow up so I can get a new machine!!!!!
Goes good... sometimes – Easy to use; many cycle options, clothes still came out clean... One problem we did have was sometimes water would leak from the filler nozzle if the taps weren't turned off right after the load was finished, dripping onto clothes and virtually saturating them, requiring a re-spin. Very stylish, and had a self-cleaning mode. Stylish, easy to use,… Read more
self-cleaning mode Occasional water leaks, mechanically there are better Fisher & Paykel washing machines on the market.
Hate it – I was given this washing machine for free 2 months ago, as the first person who owned it said they could never finish a load of washing with it. They had bought it brand new. I downloaded the manual from online, and have tried my best to follow all the guides and advice. I am now currently washing a load and have had to try to rebalance it at… Read more
least 15 times already. This happens 19 out of 20 times I try to wash anything, whether the load is small, medium, large or extra large. This machine has no balancing capabilities at all. Most of the time, I just give up and hang my clothes out wet.
To add to the frustration, it makes endless annoying noises every time it unbalances.
This machine is like torture. If I could I would throw it.
I would feel too guilty if I gave this machine to anyone. I am buying a new machine, definitely not a fisher and Paykel, as soon as I can. Large load, water efficient Unbalances all the time, can't finish a cycle, annoying noises that never stop
Aquadumb - worst purchase ever – i thought buying a f&p machine i was investing in a long term asset - turns out long term to f&p is 5 years (compared to 10+ that simpson did at my parents place). what a waste of money. f&p brand is going down the drain, wont be supporting it any more. Uncontrollable beeping when load goes out of balance and takes about 4 hours to wash one load. doesnt spin dry clothes and leaves marks where there were no marks!
As good as any other washing machine – There's a whole lot of "terrible" reviews here for this washing machine which is quite amazing frankly because I must have been really lucky to get a good one. Either that, or people are just too quick to "blow wind" or "sink the ship." Personally, I have had no real out of the ordinary issues with this product and we've used it nearly every… Read more
day for the past 5 years!
Sure, it goes out of balance from time to time (all washing machines from that era do) and it beeps like crazy when the clothes need to be rearranged and put back into balance but it sure beats forgetting about the wash and returning in 2 hours time with the machine sitting there idle silently flashing away and the wash still incomplete...
It does a great wash and is good on power and water. Excellent wash, good on energy, good water saving, great detergant savings
Hopeless piece of junk – Buyer beware, do not buy one of these. This machine has never worked properly in its life. Our 30 year old Hoover was far superior for the simple fact it actually worked. Consumer affairs should have a look at this thread and F&P should refund everyone they sucked in along the way. I can't stress how bad this machine really is. It turned 5 this… Read more
month and now its leaking water everywhere. To celebrate its going to the tip! I am actually glad it has finally died it gives me an excuse to get rid of it. NOTHING It barely works! Hand washing is faster and more effective!

Hate it – We needed a large family size top loader, unfortunately we chose the fisher and paykel aquasmart. From the first load the appliance has done a lousy job. Here is a list of problems. - clothes actually come out with dirt and lint in the creases - a few times we have pulled a load ofsheets out and they were dry in the centre, how does that… Read more
happen???
- the machine ties every thing into knots, this isn't a random thing, if you have anything with sleeves or legs the complete load comes out as a ball of knots.
- goes out of balance too frequently
- the worst thing about this machine is that it hasn't broken down yet and we are still using it.
I have never purchased a worse appliance, I curse every time I lift the lid. I wouldn't recommend this machine to anybody, I would like to give it away but I would be scared of a revenge attack. It looks nice Every thing else

Fisher & Paykel Aquasmart - what a pice of rubbish – We purchased an aqua smart about 3 years ago and have had nothing but misery with it since the first load of washing. The machine is impossible to balance and can take up to 4 resets to complete a load of washing. In addition, irrespective of the type of washing detergent you use, powder or liquid, it invariably leaves what can only be described… Read more
as a scum on clothes.
I have never had any appliance or whitegood that has been such an abject failure. It has destroyed clothes.
Worse still is trying to deal with F&P who simply refused to attend to the product under warranty. Phone calls could not get a service man out, and the online help only solicited condescending comments as if in 50 years I had never used a washing machine.
I will never purchase a F&P product again in my life and am only to happy to tell my experience of the product and the after sales service to anyone contemplating buying one of their products.
I have now given up. This piece of rubbish is for the council collection.
Expensive. Constantly out of balance and impossible to balance. Soap scum left on most wash loads. No after sales service.
