Fisher & Paykel are the worst washing machines EVER! – This MW512 is the second Fisher & Paykel I have owned and the exact same thing that happened to the last one happened to this one as well. The motherboard in the electronics gets all confused and can't seem to remember what part of the cycle it is on - filling, no wait....agitating, no wait.... spinning, you get the picture. Both machines failed… Read more

only a few months out of warranty. The first machine I had fixed at an expense of $400, new motherboard, new motor and was told it should work like a new machine. NOPE! worked fine for another 3 months and then started to do the same thing. Repair man with 30 years experience in his trade said NEVER buy Fisher & Paykel, they all fail the same way, front loaders are worse! In my defence, I inherited the second one when my Mum died so I didn't actually buy it but needed a machine so I kept it (and it was free). Both machines were only used to wash my clothes etc. a single person who does 2 loads a week, my Mum was the same, so neither machine had to work too hard! I will NEVER buy another Fisher & Paykel appliance ever again.

My Washing Machine – My modern-day washing machine works well and is reliable every time I need to wash my dirty clothes and get them to smell nice, fresh and clean again. This is especially true after a hot and sweaty work shift or during the day when the weather is hot and I am moving around a lot. Glad there that the machine spins the clothes in the same… Read more

machine, which saves on quite a lot of space and the clothes come out damp, not dripping wet. I can then hang them on the line outside to dry. Couldn't fit a tumble dryer into the size laundry I have.

There are many interesting functions on my washing machine whether you want to do a long or short wash, a hot, warm or cold wash or small of large wash. There are settings for washing delicates, woollens or just ordinary washing.

Having a modern-day washing machine saves you having to use quite a lot of tiring labour on a wash-board and wringing out the clothes afterwards, like my mother grew up with. Thank God for modern technology.

Good – It is a great value for money autowasher. The instructions are easy to follow, and the autowasher itself is easy to operate. It stops and beeps for help if there is a problem such as when you forget to turn a tap on, over sudsing, out of balance load, or if the autowasher is overloaded. It beeps at the end of the cycle, and they aren't too loud or… Read more

annoying either. It washes very well, I also use the eco function all the time wish is very good at saving water. It does this by spinning and spraying the clothes with water in pulses to remove the sudsy water, instead of a spinning spray rinse then a deep rinse. However you cannot use fabric softener with the eco function as there is no deep rinse to dipense it, and there is nothing worse than a waxy build up on the inside of you machine! All up a great machine. However if you want more features, go for the GW models. Good Fisher and Paykel quality, value for money, and easy to operate. With smart electronics, and the eco function saves alot of water and still rinses well, 1000rpm spin speed removes more water compared to other washers which cuts down on drying time, saving power and time on drying. Easy to keep clean with removable agitator and lid, it is also quiet when it is running too. Can be a bit too rough on clothes, and would be better if the were 5 water levels instead of 3 like on the GW models, which could save even more water. Or even better auto water level sensing. No soak function so you have to pause the machine halfway through the wash phase if you wish to soak stained items, no delay start also. If you want more features and control go for the GW models. However for the middle of the range autowasher it is a great machine!

Built to last – I wash clothes for a family of 5. Very satisfied. Clothes are always clean and well maintained. I’ve had it for almost 20 years and it’s only now needing parts replaced. Show details

Great machine as always by f&p – I had a MW512 since 2007 when I sold it to upgrade to a bigger model the new MW513 is very similar so I’m sure it will be the same. While I had this machine it was great nothing ever came out uncleaned and it span very well. The only issue really is that the agitator fins may snap eventually but a second had agitator is cheap and it’s an easy fix. So if you are buying a new MW513 or purchasing a used MW512, MW511 I would recommend it. Show details

Purchased 2006, the thing is still going – Originally purchased in 2006. The original motor died over a year ago (2018) where we replaced it with a Chinese copy. That soon died only after 6 months. Purchased a f&p original motor and I would expect it to last another ten years... With current motor, have notice that the pump is significantly loud, especially on spin, sounds as though a… Read more

plane is taking off. This top loader has only been run quite heavily as of the last year, household of 3, washing everyday a few loads on heavy duty, hot, high. Still going strong otherwise, no signs of slowing down. Otherwise in its early life was used quite lightly. This top loader has definitely given us what we paid for considering its still going strong.

Very disappointed with this product – The laundry, whether it be a clothing wash, towel wash or sheets, always ends up twisted. Sometimes twisted very tightly. When the wash has finished, I always loosen and untangle the laundry and run it through an extra rinse to ensure all the soap has been rinsed out properly.

Love it! – This machine although quite old now, washes clothes really well. It is a bit on the noisy side and has only had one part replaced so I think it that is pretty good given the age of it and the number of loads it has done over the years. I find that ALDI detergents work best and this is evident with the cleanliness of the clothes!  Show details

Ok – My nana had this machine for 10 years it claimed to do 2 deep rinses but only does one so annoying It would be better if it did 2 deep rinses not very impressed. Recommend to all apart from the negative that it does not do 2 deep rinses better than the Intuitive from fisher & paykel though.

So happy to buy something that just works – I've had this machine going on 7 years now and I'm very happy with it's reliability and performance. It just works. I work in landscaping and my clothing gets filthy. In that time this machine hasn't let me down. I'll sometimes do 3 heavy loads in a row no problems. If I get another 3-5 years out of it I'll be super happy. I just hope the next generation of Fisher and Paykel are just as good.

The best washing machine I have ever had and used bought new 13 years old – This machine has washed the muddiest footy jumpers, socks & shorts, blankets, dressing gowns, oily massage towels given it a hard time then go wash my wife's delicates with great results, only be careful unloading as 1 in 10 times it may catch on the rotor fins and there is a possibility of tearing or pulling a button off, it has always been… Read more

quite and will shut down with alarm if out of balance which is good because the machine prior to this other brand was like a rabbit in a bag and only lasted 5 years, the features are great and it is the main reason why I'm updating to a MW513 most people say the machine is basic but it get's the job done, most people will get all the bells and whistles on a more expensive machine to do the same I did that in the past never again I'm sticking to what works and has given very good service.

Love it – Love this Fisher Paykel its never had any issues, spins clothes better than any other machine I've owned & i like the programmable fav wash option. It beeps if its out of balance (& when its finished) but not an annoying beep like the microwave. I think it washes clothes really well, though having kids we dont have very delicate clothes, just very grubby ones & it gets them very clean

Great washing machine – Purchased early in 2012, this has been a very reliable washing machine. Nothing has gone wrong with it. Quiet, washes clothes wonderfully and I love how it spins them almost dry. It only does 1 wash per week where my son jam packs it full. Never unbalances and no problem with lint

Absolute rubbish – Takes forever to fill up. Had to have the hot water pump replaced. Now it won't spin dry. I've had grief with a F&P dishwasher as well. The brand is cheap and nasty rubbish. I will never buy Fisher & Paykel ever again. Don't be taken in by their cheap prices, there's a reason why they are cheap.

Reliable and easy to use but leaves a lot of lint on clothes – I have had no mechanical problems at all with the machine in over 8 years. It is easy to use and simple to understand. But it does leave a lot of lint on the clothes. There is no lint filter and the only parts to clean are the bowl and the agitator. But to clean inside the agitator is very difficult as it is too narrow to get your hand into. I… Read more

great machine! – This has been a very reliable machine, we have had for 5 years and still had absolutely no problems. It has been worked hard, having at least a 4 person household at all times (4 adults, then 4 adults and bub, now 2 adult, toddler and baby) it washes very well, no problems with greasy work clothes, filthy toddler dirt and food, or cloth nappies.… Read more

Washes clothes OK. But – It does the job of washing clothes, can't argue about that. The big problem is that it goes out of balance very easily, perhaps every third wash or so, and constantly beeps until this is manually corrected. Apart from that it works well, but the dreaded beeps are extremely annoying if I don't want to fix the problem there and then since the beeps… Read more

just keep going until it's fixed. On a positive note, the high spin speed means that clothes dry quickly. Looks modern. High spin speed. Those [censored word removed] beeps when it goes out of balance are annoying, and it goes out of balance rather often.

17 years of service – Maybe the model numbers have changed over the years but the 5.5kg washing machine I purchased over 17 years ago is just beginning to have problems. I can still use it - just have to juggle the programs. Am very impressed with the durability of this machine which has travelled to Perth and back during its life! Only hope that with the takeover by the Chinese Haier company that Fisher and Paykel's quality is maintained. Longevity

Good, reliable washer - works very well – Have had this washing machine for about 5 years and no problem, works well, doesn't damage clothes and is pretty quiet. Fisher and Paykel are good quality, better than aussie brands, which are made o/s anyway... Its pretty quiet, has a good choice of cycle and never really has a problem. inexpensive, quiet and works very well

Flaw in this model - spinning – My previous Hoover machine lasted me a loyal 14 yrs without any issue. After using F&P MW512 for 2 yrs, the spinning cycle seems to show a flaw - it either doesn't stopped or get jammed so often which drove me crazy - now after only 5 2/2 yrs - it stopped draining and the the spin stopped! F&P need to improve on the spinning hardware to make it more efficient

delicate wash cycle in which i use for my good clothes. I still have to be careful when using this wash cycle as it can still ruin good clothing, you are best off handwashing them if they are really delicate. At 5.5kg we find it the perfect size for the two of us. I would highly recomment the fisher and paykel brand, although its a pitty they moves their factory overseas. It was once nice to know if was a Brisbane based factory offering the local brisbane people jobs. Shame.... Fantastic washing machine quality. Nothing, we have been really happy with this machine.

Stick with the old technology machines! – Have been living with this machine for the last 4 years and have been near my wits end with it! Its been a love / hate relationship - pipes exploding, beeping, blinking and complete utter frustration... I've had to replace hoses 4 times with this machine as it seems to 'pop' the connections? I've been finding washers on the side of the road and… Read more

using their pipes as they're in good condition (as it saves $$$ from this machine) and yeh they continue to explode? Anyone for a flooded house?

Just recently at the end of last year I had to completely pull the damn thing apart due to it having a complete mental breakdown and work my magic cleaning it out and fault find - the electronic's board was totally covered in dust and other unknown stuff. Would have though they would have made this area impervious to this stuff as it's the computer 'brain' of the washer?

Anyhow, as others have said - cloths go in dirty and seem to go through a dirtying process rather than cleaning? Some of the clothing pieces are lost even in the cycle? I've spent ages pulling the agitator apart and managed to find things wrapped around the lase of it - eg: work socks and even a bra. I forgot to mention that to fill the bowel it takes at least 15 minutes with good water pressure - and the automatic water level option is a joke - with the cloths barely covered with water and the cycle started. It just ruins cloths!!!

When some more money comes into my life, I swear I'll drop this washer off a large height to send it off as it's just a pain in the rear trying to wash cloths on the weeekend! Light to move from house to house pipes exploding, beeping, blinking and complete utter frustration

Terrible – This is the worst washing machine I've ever had! I'm going back to an NEC fuzzy logic top loader which I had for 5 yrs and passed onto my brother who has had it for another 2. less than 2 yrs old.

There are hook like protrusions on the bottom of the agitator that grab at clothes and blankets. I've had jumpers come out of the machine that have been snagged and pulled out of shape. I put a thin bed overlay in on its own on the slowest spin speed and the agitator shredded it to bits! Don't even try putting a pillow in there...mine exploded and I'm still finding pillow fluff within the machine and on my clothes after every wash.

Your clothes come out looking really aged even though they're new.

There is no lint catcher & despite separating fabrics I had clothes come out covered in lint & result in that 'ball-ly' effect from too much friction.

Terrible – Looks good and doesn't take up much space. I was renting three years ago and this was the only model that fitted the space. Wish I had bought any other washing machine. Still have the same problem for last 3 years. Worst nightmare of a washing machine, dont buy one. Won't touch Fisher Paykel after this.

Everything, too small, doesn't work properly, washes clothes dirty, worst washing machine I have ever owned. OK – The purchase price was right. Generally no problems and a good wash, especially using liquid detergent which reduces the soap scum residue problem. if the balance isn't exact. I'm happy with the washer, except for occasional irritation when I have to rewash the odd dark coloured item. Not bad value for the purchase price. Can handle a blanket or light doona (not in the same load). Lint and white soap scum sometimes left in creases of dark coloured clothes. Adjustable legs occasionally need mucking around with to get the balance right again after a heavy load shakes it off balance.
