Poor Controls - Poor Remedy – We bought a spindle-free F&P machine which was terrible from the start. F&P were really great - they replaced it without a problem, even delivered and installed. This new replacement front loader machine worked well for about 2 years. It then became tricky to select a cycle, we'd turn the dial and it would jump to another selection. We called for… Read more
the F&P repair agent (who came very promptly) and advised we 'spin the dial a few times with the machine off'. A very temporary fix, because as the repair guy stated, this was a poor model that had been discontinued, so they couldn't replace like-with-like.
Two years later, the machine still refuses to comply with orders, and sometimes even when we do manage to select the required cycle, it jumps to another part way through. It is also a bit hit and miss as to whether it will spin effectively.
I expect a machine to give good service for a reasonable time...this hasn't.
Next machine will be far more thoroughly investigated using sites like Product Review.
Do NOT waste your money - buy another model/brand – Find UK reviews on front loaders if you are wanting to purchase a front loader. We purchased this machine in 2011 and with an extended guarantee, it has not really been that fab from the word go as I was really pleased to get a machine with a short quick cycle as sometimes when children used to come home from school and had got their uniform dirty… Read more
and needed it cleaning for the next day then I could use this quick 30 minute cycle... yippeee, unfortunately not!! As it used to always stop or not spin all the water out... After many times I rang F & P help line and spoke to one of their engineers who said that to use the quick cycle I would need to put in more clothing than just one item as it would not be enough weight in the machine to wash and spin with it being electronic/digital, etc. I said but I bought it as I could wash using the quick cycle for one or two items of clothing, etc.. Like many parents for school clothing to even if you are off out and just want to wash one item, etc. They said I should have done more research before I bought the machine!!! F & P said that most Kiwi's were energy minded and do not only ever want to wash one item of clothing!!! Ummm obviously F & P technicians who design do not know family living of washing uniforms, sports clothing, etc..
My next problem is that the dial that does the settings started to go faulty and if I was trying to get the drain and spin cycle for 15 minutes I had to try and be a safe cracker and very slowly mm by mm turn the dial until on 15 minutes and the quickly press the start button... Frustrating...
My problem after that and which is still on with being repaired is that when a program gets down to 1 minute on a cycle especially the 30 minute it stays on the 1 minute for sometimes more that 30 minutes later.
Another problem is that it will not drain the water...
I would recommend, if you value your money NOT to purchase this machine or if you decide to do so then to purchase the extended warranty.
There was a Smeg washer in the house which we purchase but it was a top loader and coming from the UK where top loaders were not really available to purchase I stuck it in the garage but I have thank goodness brought it out and replaced when this front loader has been in for repair. The Smeg has never failed-I do like it-Great that when you find a stay sock, etc. you can just open the lid and add it in... Fab-I do think that top loaders are harder on your clothing. Clothing does get more tangled in a top loader but when all is said and done I just prefer a machine that lasts, does not keep breaking down and you can add clothing for this I would recommend a Smeg Top Loader...
Hope this helps you decide in what to spend your money on-I would not buy another.
Check out older F&P machine reviews to get an idea of reliability – We have had a disappointing experience with a WH80F60WV1 machine, as below. Used by a family of five with young children = daily washes with a variety of loads – lightly to heavily loaded. It worked well generally for most of the time. Good washes, good spin, average noise for a washing machine (by no means "quiet"), not too wrinkled… Read more
clothing, clothes sufficiently dry. Good short cycle (60 mins) that washed well enough. Neat 3 sec delay prior to cycle starting in case you wanted to add something or change cycle.
However, after five years' use it has died. I note that the average Australian washing machine is surveyed to last 8.5 years.
Minor faults to start with like cracked plastic buttons. At about 4 years old the door had to be replaced (plastic, yes plastic, door hinges broke). Then in the fifth year the quality of the wash deteriorated...not spinning properly and very wet washes, then just water fill, nothing, then water drain...no drum rotation. Called service man who came three times with different parts. Then he stated it was unfixable, and that we have to get a new machine.
In seeking to fix this machine we note that the service from F&P was quite prompt and helpful, though we had to wait 2 weeks for a part to arrive.
Check this review...a few others have problems with the quality of F&P products.

Three Years And Going Strong – Had this washer for 3 years now. With 2 kids in the house it sees plenty of use. It's still going strong and doing well. we did think it was broken at one point but found a bra underwire had come out and lodged in the filter stopping the spin cycle. Seems to be a decent washing machine.
Happy – I actually bought this machine second hand the original owner had it for 3 years I have had it for 2 years and have never had a problem with it so I find the negative comments quite surprising, there have been two occasions where as the load didn't spin and drain properly on the last cycle but I worked out it was because I had too many clothes in there, overall I'm very happy with it and washes well. washes well
Terrible – From the beginning this machine didn't wash very well and to my surprise things got worse. After a load I needed to put on an extra drain/spin due to excessive water. F & p informed me it was out of balance due to the jeans and bath mats placed in the washing machine or that I didn't put enough clothes in or that I overloaded the machine. Mould… Read more
built up within the drum caused an unbearable smell and once the drum was changed I was informed by f & p that I needed to put on a 3 hour empty cycle every so often to rectify this issue. Very disappointed with f&p as I can read it is a common problem with this machine. Called a technician out about 7 times only to be told it was a user issue. Don't buy this machine it's a lemon!
This is my 3rd year with this machine and spinning is not working properly now & then since last… Read more (+2 replies)
dissapointed – 4 years into the life of a $800 unit and something to do with the drum is knackered. we sold the ten year old top loader that had never had a sick day in its life for $50 and wasted $800 on th fisher paykel wh80. built in redundancy? poor parts? hopeless
8KG- not happy at all :( Doesn't spin properly – We bought this machine just over a year ago, and straight away noticed that a load would take longer than suppose to, and it didn't spin clothes well at all. The technician has been out twice since, and apparently there is nothing wrong with it. I disagree, as more often than not, when the load has finished, the clothes are still so wet that i can… Read more
wring water out of them by hand, so I don't think it is working properly at all. The technician said that maybe i wasn't putting enough in it, and to shove in an extra towel, which may help it to be balanced correctly, or something like that, but i can't even get 8kg worth of clothes in it in the first place, and i don't think I should need to put extra towels in for the sake of it just so that it will balance itself.
I bought this especially for the 8kg size, and am very disappointed in it, firstly it doesn't fit 8kg in anyway, then there is only a few settings which are suited for 8kg, and then it takes 2 hrs 45 mins, (I've have front loader machines for a long time and I know that their cycles are longer, but 2hrs45 seems excessive), then it hardly ever spins properly, so then I need to then put it on an extra 15 minute spin cycle, so it takes at least 3 hrs to do a wash. I've stopped using the 8kg option and do 2 smaller loads, which misses the whole point of having a large 8kg machine.
There are about 10 different programmes, only 3 are suited to 8kg, 3 suited to 4kgs or less, and the others are for 3kg's or less. If you are looking to buy a large 8kg machine, check out the programmes first, as you might be surprised how limited the 8kg options are.
I wouldn't buy another Fisher and Paykel washing machine again, as this one is just so disappointing, and frustrating!!! It wasn't cheap either, so am stuck with it :( I curse it every time i go to empty it! I would love for Fisher and Paykel to admit I've got a dud machine and offer to replace it. It does seem to wash clothes ok. 8kg cycle is a joke, takes forever and doesn't spin properly- clothes are still wet and need an additional spin cycle to finish it off.
Just another update- now my white clothes are getting dirty marks all over them. I scrubbed the… Read more
Watch Out – I bought this machine asvthe size was great for our family, but it has not lived up to my expectations. Doesn't wash whites very well and after 2 years the spin and wash cycle stopped working. Prior to that the spin didn't work well at all. I definitely will not be purchasing this brand again.
good machine I have had mine for almost 3 years now and have not had any problems with it, washes… Read more (+1 reply)
WH80F60WV1 Fisher and Paykel front load washing machine – Don't buy one you'll be sorry. Has a problem with the spin cycle...I purchased my washinig machine in January and continually have a problem with the spin cycle... I have complained to F&P many times but because they don't deam the machine to have a manufacturers fault they will not replace or refund my money. I am very dissatisfied with this machine give it a huge miss to avoid you expierencing the same problem. Unknown spin balance problem
8kg front loader. Rubbish! – I have had 4 F & P machines in 7 years. 3 machines have had the motor burn out. This new front loader is only 8 months old & will have to call F & P out for the 2nd time as it jumps around 1minute after starting a new load & then stops. I will never buy another F& P product ever again. Rubbish. When the machine was delivered, the technician said… Read more
he does not get paid extra to balance the machine, so have had problems with the balancing of the machine ever since.
The 3 basic cycles are good, but the others take way too long. Clothes fade quickly & the spin cycle does not always spin if there is only a small amount of clothes in the machine. Only 1 cycle uses cold water which is useless to me.
Towels will never be soft unless you put them in the dryer as softener does not help
Overall [censored word removed] machine & would not recommend it to my worst enemy. Will look at other brands in the near future. Great hand cycle, but will not always spin properly if less than half load Electronics gone in 8 months. 1 week after replacement, can't use machine. Have to call F & P out again.
F & P products are disgusting. Clothes dryer doesn't dry pockets and their washing machines leave… Read more (+3 replies)
8kg front loader model WH80F60WV1 – Absolutely fabulous machine. I had a Whirlpool front loader for 14 years and had never given me any trouble at all. I was very hesitant to change brands but after reading reviews about whirlpool machine thought I would change. It is the best decision I have ever made. Just love this machine. It is so, so quiet. Can't fault the… Read more · 3
machine but would like to warn people who buy products from 2nds World Online. Machine was advertised as having carton damage. The machine arrived with no carton, wrapped in plastic and the machine had 3 very deep long scratches on the cabinet. Be careful ordering any products from 2nd World Online.
8 kg front loader washing machine – I bought this washing machine to replace my old top loader which I loved but no longer fitted into my new kitchen. I was worried about going to a front loader as I had heard stories about them being slow and towels being hard. I couldn't be happier with our new 8kg fisher and paykel washer. It is incredibly quiet, always balanced , has a quick… Read more · 2
wash function which we use all the time and works fabulously! It also has a very gentle hand wash function.
I used to have to do hand washing by hand but this function really does wash your delicates so gently and slowly.
Towels do dry hard if you don't put them in the dryer. Even if you use fabric softener. Haven't worked out a solution for that yet. Super quiet, fast wash, clothes smell AMAZINGLY fresh Nothing. I recommend this machine to everyone.
Love it – Have purchased the 8kg F&P Washing Machine and I love it!! Cleans well and has a very fast spin which pretty much dries the clothes. Leaves me clothes feeling and looking good!! Gentle on clothes, has a great look, spins the clothes nearly dry
