10/10 FlexGel Experience – Very happy with the mattress! Regulates temperature keeping my wife warm and me cool. I would certainly recommend getting a pair of the FlexGel pillows also as together, you truly feel like you're sleeping on a cloud.  Show details

Worst bed, worst company and worst guarantee ever – Bought as recommended for bad back. Dips appeared almost instantly. Shop and company asked for photos. It was a white mattress so photos not really possible to show extent of dipping. I slept in a saggy dip. I now have two herniated discs etc. I approached the company again as dips now obvious. The company are offering to fix it up now, but… Read more

it was never ok. I am totally in support of all the other negative reviews and intend to spread the word because of their lack of action to REPLACE the mattress. I have literally been unable to walk in the mornings after sleeping on this. AH Beard need investigating after seeing all the bad feed back here, saying similar things and stating it's harmed their health.

My bed apparently had no quality check done and was finished badly with threads left hanging out of the mattress.

Not as good as expected – We purchased a Flexgel 3000 ensomble 2008 by AHBEARD. We paid $4,740.00 catalogue discounted from $5,999. Our mattress was not as comfortable as the one we tried in the shop but was still pretty good for the first twelve months and then noticed sinking depressions where we slept. The bed lost a lot of its comfort and I don't think a new mattress topper would help. we have a 10 year warranty so should contact them.  Show details

A real shocker! – Similar to the rest of the comments here... have had the Flexgel genesis plush mattress for about 4 years - paid close to $3000 for it at Forty Winks... progressively the mattress has become worse with time - now the equivalent of the Grand Canyon has opened up in the middle of the bed - my nights are spent clinging to the edge trying not to roll into the abyss...  Show details

Ripoff Rubish – Beware of this mattress and company.... The guarantee is worthless and mattress collapsed well within the guarantee period....save your money and steer clear. The company has the guarantee written in such a way so it never needs do anything about its dodgy product.

Not Recommended (esp for a bad back) – Bought a King FlexGel from 40 Winks in 2011 for around $2000. Was told that it naturally keeps you cool & is designed so that your partner doesn't disturb you if they move due to the smart design. This is totally not true! The mattress weighs a ton so it's difficult to change the sheets, doesn't keep you cool & has extremely poor back support… Read more

(not firm at all after extended use). If you test it for 5-10mins, at first it seems great but after 1-2 weeks of sleep, my back was extremely painful & I needed Physio.

Was originally recommended by friends to get a latex bed (latex from NZ not China) and something designed for a bad spine. My next bed will be better researched (e.g. Tempur, Memory foam/latex hybrid, Sealy Posturepedic or Sleepmaker Latex are some of the options). Hope you found my article useful & good luck finding your prefect bed

Nothing But Great Sleep – Bought this a few years ago and have been very happy. We haven't bothered to rotate it as we've had no issues. Maybe ours is not the 'individuale' or a latest model. It is ridiculously heavy and therefore awkward to change sheets but this is my only gripe. I sleep hot and my partner sleeps cold. We've never had any issues. I am restless and my partner sleeps light and it's good for that.

Bought due to spinal condition – I too bought the flexgel AHBeard bed..I purchased this bed because it was recommend as I was having spinal surgery.. I agree..it is soooo heavy and you cannot turn, lift or move this top mattress without doing real damage..I was a Registered Nurse for years and am now a Lawyer and would not recomend this bed to anyone. Worst purchase ever – We purchased a flexgel bed back in 2010. Our first shock was how heavy it was, I didn't try lifting it in store then it was delivered and the delivery driver got it off truck and when we found how heavy it was we asked for help, "no wa"y he said, too heavy. It had to sit in garage until we could get family to help us get it upstairs. At first it… Read more

was wonderful, I loved it, but over the years has become much less comfortable, we now have two ditches where we lie and a hump in the middle. It is so difficult to get out of bed in morning, we literally have to climb out of the ditch. We get a much more comfortable sleep with our 30 year old mattress in spare room. I can't even change sheets unless there are two of us as I cant lift mattress and as for turning it, what a joke, I am worried I will do my back in,they say not use handles to turn but it is impossible without the handles. I would like to get rid of it and start again but too scared of making another bad purchase, it was very expensive and we have wasted our money.. I read the brochure that came with the bed as I thought we had a faulty bed but found these ditches are perfectly normal, so really do not have a case.

Hot dog with cheese – I Purchased a secondhand Flexgel 3000 mattress with a solid base Yesterday and have had the worst 2 nights sleep of my life. Comfortable for 5 minutes then becomes painful. Don't be fooled like I was. I even read the reviews before I purchased it. The original owner and 40 winks said all the reviews online are just made up false reviews by other competitor's companies. My mistake!!

Worst bed ever made – the bed structure collapsed after 3 months forty winks told us to just keep turning the mattress and it will come good. The gel is a scam I found the stuff didn't breath and you would over heat in minutes I sleep most nights on the innerspring in the spare room. retailers and manufacturers should me held accountable for peddling shoddy products. AH Beard and Forty Winks should be shut down

Worse mattress ever – Bad news. The springs broke, and came literarily out, breaking sheets, damaging our bed. It is the worse mattress ever. Two years after, it is going to the rubbish. It is uncomfortable to sleep in, the gel doesn't make a difference, it is incredibly expensive, and it is so heavy that cant even be turned. Sales people at Forty Winks thought it was the best mattress ever!. Springs, gel, heavy, unconfortable.

Hood-winked, more like it! – I bought the Medium FlexGel from 40 Winks Capalaba and presumed that I would be getting a wonderful bed which would guarantee a superb night's sleep. Since sleeping on this bed, I have developed chronic back pain. The spring system is poor and offers no spinal support. The sleeper sinks right down into the mattress and even turning over is… Read more

difficult. I will never buy from 40 Winks again because the bed has been misrepresented - both by the retailer and the manufacturer A H Beard. It appears well made and has an attractive covering. The spring system is poor and does not offer any spinal support at all.

Absolutely Disgusting – We were told that it was the best, because the gel keeps you cool and it contours to your body. I went from a perfectly good bed, that I had for 15 years to a very expensive hammock. We paid $1800.00 from 40 winks. That was after the 40% discount. After two months of sleeping on this bed I started getting rreally bad back pains, that slowly… Read more

shifted to the front. Went to the doctors but I never really thought it could be the bed. Went to Melbourne for the weekend and slept in hotel bed. The back and front pains had miraculously disappeared. When I came back and slept in my bed, the first night, when I woke in the morning back felt a little stiff but ok. The next morning very bad backache. The third morning the pain had started on my front and side. I rang forty winks, and filled out all the forms. The manufacturer came out, took it back, said they changed the gel and tightened the top. They basically told me that if it was still bothering me that I had obviously chosen the wrong type of bed. I was too scared and terrified of the pain coming back again that I went and bought a nice innerspring matteress from bedshed and it cost me $850, have never been happier.

In my opinion Gel flex beds are very bad news. They will destroy your health, especially when you can't get out of bed in the morning, because you bottom has contoured to your body and your sitting in a ditch and need to be pulled out of bed. By the way I weight 55kg. That's not very heavy. When you get up in the morning you can see the dimples in the bed where you have been laying all night and these dimples don't spring back up thay are still there when you go back to bed the next night.

So people if you value your health do not not not buy a gel flex bed.

Can't sleep in a bed that has permanent dimples in it night after night.

Way too expensive for what you get! – We purchased our King FlexGel 3000 in late 2009 after months of searching for the "right" bed. For the first nine months we were happy with it's comfort and quality but then we started to notice sagging in the area where we lay. We knew to expect some sag and stretching in the pillowtop area but this was very concerning. Slowly over the months… Read more

it got worse and it wasn't until we went on holidays this year that we knew our back ache problems and waking up feeling tired each morning was coming from our mattress at home. The apartment we stayed in had a middle of the price range mattress but it was superior in comfort and support to the one we had at home.

Upon returning home we slept two nights in our bed and immediately knew the problem lay with the FlexGel mattress.

We went straight back to the store and voiced our concerns.

An AH Beard rep visited our home one week later and just seeing the shocked look on their face we knew we had a "bad" mattress.

We were told it would be transported back to their factory and be repaired if possible.

We voiced our concern about repairing it as we felt it should be replaced!

The transport company guys who collected it were shocked and said it was the worse they had seen. When they lifted the very heavy mattress out it looked like it had broken in the middle. In our opinion we think one of the problems with this FlexGel brand is that they are way too heavy particularly in the king size and just seem to fall apart in the inner makings of the mattress. We have been told the problem seems to be most common in the king size mattress.

I am very fussy with bedding and insisted it be wrapped in heavy duty plastic and placed in mattress boxing before it left my home.

That was three weeks ago and we still haven't been informed of the outcome as to whether it will be repaired or replaced.

We'll keep you posted on the eventual outcome! Minimal partner disturbance Too expensive, sagging and shocking back support

Excellent – After my partner bounced so hard when he was turning that I found myself on the floor (a bit of a shock in the middle of the night) and waking every morning with a backache, we decided it was time for a new bed. We spent over 3 months looking for a new bed and base. The Flexgel was one of the first we tested but thought we'd keep looking when… Read more ·  1

we heard the price.

We found a number of beds that we both thought were 'ok' but we kept comparing them to the Flexgel and they were just nowhere near as comfortable. We thought we would continue looking around but kept coming back to this bed.

It irked us that this bed was only available from one chain (Forty Winks) and consequently the price was pretty high and there was no incentive for them to be competitive. In spite of this we saved $150 by going to another franchise store.

My morning backaches were getting worse so eventually we relented.

I know it takes at least 4 weeks to get used to a new bed but after 2 weeks when I started getting a different backache I began to have doubts. By week 5 I realised I was no longer crawling out of bed with a backache.

We have now had the bed for 1 year and we both love our Flexgel.

We had read many comments from other people about latex beds being very hot. This was a real concern for us as I am a furnace in bed. I have stayed in many hotels and always remembered the latex beds at the Melbourne Hilton as one of the best (as did my colleagues) but also did notice that it was a 'hot' bed.

We researched 'FlexGel' and had a look at a sample and decided we preferred it to the Simmons equivalent. Also A.H.Beard has been around for many years and is a reputable manufacturer.

We have now been through 2 Summers and have not found the Flexgel to be any hotter than any other bed.

Date Purchased: April 2010

Price Paid: $3800 Excellent support; very comfortable.

Cannot feel any movement from my partner.

We liked the fact that we could choose from 2 levels of individual firmness and both went for the firmer option. The price.

Flexgel 3000 - disappointing! – Paid premium price for a perceived premium bed. Bed has failed twice since mid-2008. New bed also failed about 6 months later (chronic dipping; poor posture; poor sleep). The second failure I let go on… Read more

and on telling myself it's not that bad, but now it is terrible/beyond a joke. After contacting AH Beard again, they are promising to repair it (by changing internal structure to something other than what we purchased). I also had to pay $105 to have the matress 'professionally' cleaned before they will take back to factory to repair. This process has taken weeks so far.

Would not recommend Flexgel to anybody - it is a lemon. Manufacturer blames Dunlop for latex failure & proposes to fix the problem by changing the latex inner with some other product? Comfortable for first 3-4 months Bed has failed twice in 3 years. Very expensive for what you get.

Very disappointing! – We were so excited to have finally found a bed that we thought was comfortable after a lot research even though the cost was high. pushed the mattress here & there, said it was ok, 3 weeks later i rang them because it wasn't, they then collected it and kept it for 3 weeks to do what they called test, told us they couldn't find anything, they obviously didn't lay on it,they then delivered it back to us, the poor guys carried the king size up 2 flights of stairs, put it on the base and the flexgel had come adrift and was in a lump on 1 side, they sheepishly tried to push it out, it was at that point we demanded a new one or money back, they sent us a new mattress but it has sagged like a hammock on both sides, despite us turning it every 2 weeks for the past 3 years. My husband wants to take it to the tip, we just need to find a replacement, not sure how to do that now after this experience. We were taken in by the initial soft comfort. Expensive, does not live up to its reputation and bad warranty experience.

Be warned this bed does not live up to the advertising hype – Like many choosing a new bed is always a challenging exercise, we researched for some time and looked at many of the sales around New Years. We chose the FlexGel from AH Beard on reputation of the manufacturer,… Read more

partner disturbance was not an issue and in the showroom the bed seemed firm enough. Once we received the bed we both had difficulties with sore lower backs, reduced support and overheating in the mattress. We persisted with the mattress for 6 weeks, hoping we would get used to it but didn't, contacted the manufacturer wh suggested we use a Tercel mattress protector for the heat issue, spent more money and still no improvement. The bed has been sent back to the Manufacturer for testing and the manufacturer claims it is to specifiction. Minimal partner disturbance Expensive, does not live up to the technical specifications relating to heat management, support in the firmest Accolade model falls away and leaves you with a sore back, manufacturer not living up to waranty relating to there product claims
