Great car BUT keep up the maintenance – 2014 AWD diesel Titanium 130000kms , oil changes every 10k, do regular tyre rotations these can be hard on tyres. Experienced hard shifts around 90kms and took it to Ford did a fluid change and reset..minor improvement, at 130kms took it to The gearbox factory East tamaki NZ Transmission flush and clean sensors, also change and flush Transfer… Read more

case, VAST improvement smooth as silk. if it plays up again will probably change out mecatronix unit but so far it is good.

Equal best we've had – The Territory is the best riding and comfortable car we've driven, smooth and stable at all speeds and all surfaces. Diesel motor is powerful, quiet and surprisingly economical, more so than the Hyundal Tuscon it replaced. The only disappoinment is the cheap plastics and vinyls, the Titanium would've been a better choice. Overall a thoroughly good vehicle. Show details ·  1

2011 ford territory 2.7 v6 tdci – All you need is the service history, with regularly maintenance and service proof, higher km models will prove the owners have looked after them, don’t be to scared of them as I opted for a lower Km used model. And it’s a money pit, 158,000 and all is lost in my recent purchase of an intended family car, head gaskets and transmission. However it… Read more

still runs and drives and I’ve gone to 170,000km, it is scary knowing that it’s leaking out of the engine but I know it’s not mixing yet, so to me this is a quite unreliable model giving me lots of anxiety whilst I try and save for the money to fix it.

New parts 15-20k fitted from ford Decent second hand wreckers with warranty 5-6k second hand engine and transmission so it’s not to bad just very inconvenient and a big let down, I’d be wary of keeping a new ford for 10 years if they look like this one however I wouldn’t know as I’ve only ever owned this ford.

Aside from the incoming repairs it does drive okay and I’m impressed with it being able to still drive for now.

Great car super spacious – Great car and cheap to run. Super spacious. Turbo Diesel engine packs a punch. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend or but another. Toes great too. Parts and labour are cheap also. Show details

Terrible GPS system – When are ford going to supply a decent GPS in their cars. Hopeless to use and not user friendly description in one word CRAP. Nothing but a confusing hard to operate GPS unit Ford are supposed to update it on service intervals but doubt if technicians would be able to operate it.  Show details

We should still be making them! – Having owned a 2004 Territory from new it was time to update. Trying a diesel this time, good economy, good performance, tons of space and still the best SUV handling/ride. It is a tragedy that our government did not continue helping our car industry when we showed the world what a great vehicle we could produce.  Show details

Hot and Cold – The hot parts:- Solidly built vehicle and drives really well. The diesel is very quiet and has plenty of power. Loads of room for the interior and the rear seats fold flat so overnight camping in the back is comfortable. We do like our Territory diesel although there appears to be so common faults that other owners have also experienced. The cold… Read more

parts:- the in tank fuel pump failure seems to be an common issue, our 2013 model failed at 78,000kms and Ford Australia took over 5 weeks to get a replacement, lucky our local dealership gave us a loan car, extremely poor customer support from Ford Australia. Another common fault appears to be the driver's side area, front and rear, leak and the carpet is wet after rain. I have twice taken it to be repaired but no avail, I have now fitted an additional seal along the door trim to try and stop the flow of water into the cabin {seems to be working}. Depending on the day of the week or weather the cruise control works intermittently. The steering wheel audio controls can also have a mind of their own, fine one day but completely out of whack the next day. The 'P' light is constantly lit as mentioned by Jo Jo in her review and every so often sounds to engage Park even though the vehicle is in park.

All in all it is a lovely car to drive and it has a feeling of solidness, it tows our small van effortlessly, shame about the annoying faults and poor service now Ford has shut up shop in Australia.

Awesome Family Mover - Sad to see it go – I've had my diesel SZ Territory for 4 years and it has just done 165 000km so I thought I'm qualified to do a review. I can honestly say the only money I have spent on this car, aside from accessories, is scheduled services every 15 000km and they are fixed price at Ford so you know where you are at. I have not done one repair, only consumables.… Read more

It is for this reason I have decided to keep it and just keep running it. I know friends with newer more expensive cars who have spent a great deal more on servicing and repairs, despite warranties. Like the Falcon the Territory is built to go the distance.

I have the base model with diesel engine and 7 seats. The Territory replaced a Falcon and it has served us very well. It has the usual Ford Australia 'cheap and shoddy' feel to it and the fit out is basic. I like the lower spec cars because I have a kids and a dog so it is more durable and less irritating if anything happens to it. Also, in Sydney I find leather sweaty so I have sheepskins on the front and the Ford neoprene (wetsuits material) covers on the back which works well with kids and a dog when we go camping or to the beach etc.

The 7 seats are great for a family and make for some good times carting a car full of kids to parks, beaches, movies, parties etc.

Luggage space is simply awesome. Ford roof racks are 'easy on, easy off' too so worth getting.

Ride is ok, handling is ok, no complaints from me but I'm not a speedster In this, we have other cars that are sportier so can get our jollies in them.

Engine is great. The economy the diesel engine provides makes it a joy to drive. Petrol Territories just suck through the fuel and you are always conscious of it whereas the diesel uses 8-9 ltr/100km so much less notable. I have gone SYD-MELB and SYD-BNE numerous times on one tank and averaged 7ltr/100km.

Being a 6 cylinder it has a lot of torque so is great for towing. Loaded up with a boat it purrs along no worries.

Main complaint about the engine is the turbo lag - it is pretty bad but manageable when you get used to it. I have other turbos and it is obvious Ford have simply done a shocking job tuning the engine. The same engine is used in other makes (Peugeot, Citroen, Landrover) without the lag. Simply another reason why Ford no longer make cars in Australia.

One draw back of the diesel over the petrol is it needs a timing belt at 165 000km. I just got mine done at a very good independent for $2000, including full service, brake and coolant fluid flush, new front brakes and rotors, wipers and a clean. That is the most I've spent on it but it will be good for another 165km now.

If you are after a good reliable and economical family car with a lot of space that you can do big distances in the Territory is hard to go past.

Best car for dogs and travel! – This is by far my favourite car out of the two we own. Quiet on the road, it's a diesel engine without sounding so badly like one, and it has great fuel economy. Comfy seating, love the features on the steering wheel for the radio. There's plenty of space for everyone inside, including the dogs. Have the metal grate to block the back to stop the… Read more

dogs from coming forward, perfect after beach trips.

We go to a LOT of dog shows and we need to be able to fit us in, the dogs and all the setup gear like gazebo, mat, show trolley etc. We can manage it in this car which is awesome!

Better than i expected suv – Bouth this at pickles auctions ex government 3 years old. 50,000kms on clock. Went to Sydney with it to pick up a 17 and half foot caravan. It is a Diesel. I did 900 kms on one tank of 75 litres not towing. Fuel drops about 40% while towing but still works out cheap to run. Glad i bought it to replace my Falcon.  Show details

Love our Territory – Bought Territory from Blaicklocks at Wodonga - easy to arrange over the internet and phone before driving down and collecting it, sight unseen other than on the net....it was one year old, about 6000kms on the clock. So our first drive was from there to near Newcastle - and it was great....a good start. We have enjoyed our car since then. the… Read more

Fuel consumption has usually been around 10km per litre which is good, although we do not do lots of city driving where I am sure the consumption would deteriorate somewhat. But we are happy with it for our purposes.

Comfort is very good - smooth, nice ride, comfy seats, etc. Good room for passengers in rear. Luggage space is also excellent, and access easy through either full door or glass panel only opening at rear.

Performance great - heaps of power, but driven for speed, fuel consumption would suffer for sure

I have towed only a quite heavy full trailer and the car drives easily, as if the trailer is not there.

Only issue has been one coil going but that is an easy and cheap fix for the mechanic.

Main disappointment which we did read about in other reviews prior to purchase are the headlights on low beam which are quite weak - we plan to talk to our mechanic or auto electrician to see if there is a cheap fix for that, and also the stereo which is not strong on volume (much to my wife's delight lest I blast it too loudly). It is sufficient but would not suit a music nut who wants to belt out doof doof music all day.

Bottom line is we love the car and strongly recommend this model to prospective buyers.

Just the car for family – This vehicle performs past expectations. Quiet, easy to drive, lots of leg room for tall people and an enormous boot. Excellent fuel consumption for a large vehicle at approx. 650 km per tank which is twice what the last vehicle was delivering. All you want at your fingertips or through voice command.  Show details

Ford Australia are refusing warranty claims – My 2014 delivered TX AWD diesel starter motor failed due to water entering it in December 2016. The local dealer refused to honour the warranty saying I had "wilfully misued the car" by putting it through a car wash more than once. Ford Australia claimed that the "starter is fully sealed and cant leak". The car has done 60,000km has an impeccable… Read more

service record, but has cut out 2 sets of front tyres due to the factory recommended toe out settings. Ford Australia say that is my fault too as I use it on dirt roads.

Basically, if you dont wash the car by hand, and drive it off sealed roads, you have no warranty.

4 Years and doing the job TX diesel RWD – The good stuff - great touring car; great towing; diesel pulls well with no fuss; good diesel economy when towing; handles very well around town or country; excellent storage; good noise reduction when touring at speed; very stable; RWD works well, do not need AWD if you stay on sealed roads or good tracks; servicing by Ford dealer is good. bad stuff - front ball joints replaced under warranty; windscreen washer pump replaced under warranty; power steering can overheat when my daughter is practicing parallel parking in 35+ degree heat (just needs a few minutes to cool down before the next 20 parking attempts!)

Conclusion - works for me, no need to replace or upgrade.

A not so good way to waste money – Our car has 130000 on the clock and has left us with a bill for nearly $5000 for a MANUFACTURER fault with the transmission. Ford refuses to pay any more despite resulted because the transmission has a manufacturer defect. I am so unimpressed with Ford and their lack of care and responsibilty. Couldn't be happier – Handles well. Have had a 2,700 kg Ford tow pack fitted and rear suspension coil air bags to tow a Jayco Journey 18ft caravan. So far the vehicle has done 40,000 Km, 34,000 of which is towing the van. Average consumption for towing is around 16lts/100km diesel. Mostly very satisfactory experience – Driving experience, especially towing a caravan, is excellent and beyond expectation. Automatic gearbox function a little less smooth than previous Territory (2007). Clear identification of some instrumentation (e.g., a.c.) can be challenging initially. Disappointing problems with a.c., diff. whine and electric cooling fan operation, but these are being addressed under warranty.  Show details

Sz diesel, great car, roomy easy to drive and good on fuel!! – I've had my rwd 2012 Tx diesel territory for over a year now and find it to be the most practical car I've ever own, it's big and roomy but drives like a small car, it's great on fuel averaging 8.6ltrs per 100kms around town, it comfortably fits the family and the shopping with ease, it can tow without any worries and has great internal storage… Read more

Good but could be better – I have the Territory Diesel as a company car and have clocked up 195,000km in just over 3 years. My main issue has been with a severe transmission "bang" usually at about 20kph and then accelerating. The dealer can't find an issue but it hasn't failed (yet). There have been other issues like rear shocker bushes, leaking coolant from the air con… Read more

radiator and a leaking oil filter.

The main thing for new to diesel drivers is the turbo lag which I find in some cases quite dangerous. You really need to plan quick starts or lane changes well in advance. I frequently drive it in tip tronic mode to make sure the turbo is active. The Bluetooth also has a habit of dropping out frequently.

It is comfortable to drive and carries my work gear easily. I am the only one in the car about 80% of the time.

In spite of all of these issues, I am considering the latest series 2 Territory when my car is due to be replaced but as a petrol model this time mainly as Ford have included DAB+ radio as standard. I currently listen to DAB radio on a portable unit & as I am in the car for many hours a day, this is important to me. The front parking sensors & rear camera are also great inclusions.

The current Territory has averaged 8.2L/100km which is excellent for a car of this size. Luckily fuel costs do not impact on me which is why I will request the petrol version & overcome the lag issue.

Let down by pathetic headlights – Bought the Ford Territory SZ Diesel RWD brand new in October 2012. I like it very much, but I cannot understand why Ford changed the head lights on this model. The lenses on the headlights are small. We had the 2009 SY Petrol model before and the headlights were fantastic. Living in the country it is a pretty important feature to have, but of… Read more

course when you take a test drive they don't let you take it overnight and out into the country. I contacted customer service and they wouldn't even acknowledge the problem and gave no solution. I have spoken to other owners of this model and they feel the same. Have had to put a bull bar on the car so I can put decent lights on it.

Otherwise it is a well built reliable car, and fuel economy is very good. Economy pretty good. Headlights. Highbeam is hardly different to low beam. Low beam is hopeless.

2012 Ford Territory Diesel – Brilliant vehicle for daily driving and touring use, also for towing (on the black top). Crying shame that Ford Australia are going to stop producing these vehicles as they are one of the best cars ever built in Australia, certainly as good as any similar foreign import. Shame on those foreign car buyers :)  Show details

Diesel. The Good Bad and Very Ugly – The 2013 7 seat TX RWD Diesel was a good buy through a lease company, brand new and seemed to be a good car. 13 trips to the service department in 16 weeks would suggest otherwise. To be fair it took three service departments to find the fault which was quite disappointing, but the worst thing is the actual problem. The Rocket Cover had an oil… Read more

leak from manufacture and was dripping oil onto the exhaust manifold creating exhaust type fume sin the cabin.

Once that was fixed we found fuel line leaks all over and the entire fuel line assembly had to be replaced. Still awaiting final part as Ford do not keep spares, even though this appears to be a common fault (just not if you ask the Ford CRC, they will tell you, you are the FIRST!!).

The actual car, its finish, drive and fuel economy are outstanding, once you get past the below average Australian build and "We know nothing" approach from Ford HO. Price, 7 seats, fuel economy, seating comfort and size. Leaking Fuel lines (raw diesel into cabin), Rocket Gasket Leak
