Whoever designed this machine obviously never used it to make a coffee. The height off the bench for the steam arm is too low to get a jug underneath unless you move it to edge of the bench. The steam is very weak and takes too long to reach temperature with even a small amount of milk. The water temperature going though the coffee grounds is too low for a good extraction. I am completely amazed that Gaggia allowed their name to go onto this piece of rubbish. Look for it in the local op shop for a bargain price!

Follow-up  · Pay extra and buy a real espresso machine. Gagging are mad to put their good name on this.

Purchased in for $399.

Good – A very good buy; durable efficient and effective. When you combine this with a burr grinder the quality of the coffee is even better. Surprisingly so! consistent and reliable; the water compartment is east to remove and refill. I can make professional lattes on this machine

Amazing, reliable, classy and consistent domestic espresso machine – Unlike some other semi automatic machines, it doesn't take more than a couple of minutes to make a GOOD cup of coffee, and even if you are having a fairly rushed morning, there is almost always time to squeeze in a steaming cuppa. The best thing about this machine is how simple it is to use, once you actually figure out what proportions of espresso and milk you need to make a decent latte. It requires a little practice to get the coffee you like and good milk texture. If you are an espresso fan (which I am not) then there's even less to do.

We bought ours off ebay for half the retail price and have had it for almost 8 months already and it seems to be a very reliable machine, no fuss, not much cleaning to do. Descaling it can be a tedious process but thankfully doesn't have to be done that often unless you use the machine VERY often. we have 4-5 cups of coffee a day but always use filtered water. Looks good, durable, and classy. Definitely a must-have for the postmodern kitchen. Great barista style coffee, easy to use, reliable and classy Not looking forward to descaling it in about a years time.. but all coffee machines and kettles need descaling so it's not really a con!

Great Espresso Machine – I purchased one of these machines off ebay to replace my Sunbeam espresso machine 2 weeks ago and haven't looked back. The quality of coffee this machine produces is not even comparable with sunbeams and brevilles that I have owned. I definitely recommend it to anyone who is looking for a decent coffee machine. The guts of this machine are impeccable. It's neither underpowered nor loud, all pieces that ought to be metal actually are, and it's serviceable. Commercial size brass portafilter, ease of filling the machine with water, ease of use, perfect crema, perfect frothed milk Even though it's worth every penny $550 is a bit steep
