Citroen leasing is the best self drive in Europe – Far better than a rent a car. We leased a Citroen C4 Cactus 1.6 turbo diesel for 8 weeks with delivery in Lisbon Portugal. Thru Portugal, Spain and France. A car ferry to Southern Ireland, loop of magical Ireland, car ferry from Northern Ireland to Scotland, then The Lakes, Wales, Cotswolds, southern UK thru The Chunnel to Poziers and Paris.… Read more
10,500 kms 4.6 l/100 km. Not only is it cheaper than a hire car, you get exactly the car you ordered, $0 Excess insurance plus Citroen Assist. We got to test this in Barcelona when the passenger's window was smashed and all our luggage taken. Citroen Assist were amazing. Tow truck took our car to Carglass. Two days later they arranged a taxi from our accommodation to pick up the Citroen with a temporary perspex window so we could continue our trip on schedule to France. Carglass Montellimar fitted a new window. No excess to pay, all taken care of by Citroen Assist over the phone. We will get another Citroen Cactus on the next trip. The new model has the magic carpet progressive hydraulic cushion suspension and super comfort seats. Love the Cactus so much I bought a new one back in Australia in June 2019 with the 1.2 turbo petrol and 6 speed auto.
Great deal with Car Lease - Awful Staff – I'd actually been using GlobalCars for quite a few years and was always annoyed when dealing with one of the staff members (Patrick). Every year they advised that someone will meet you when you arrive (this NEVER happens) and when I tried to point this out to him he would argue with me and insist that I was wrong. Out of all the companies I've… Read more
ever used they were the only ones who also insist on you sending a hard copy of the signed contract by post, which is a bit of a nuisance when you live in the country away from the Post Office. When I eventually wrote to the company after our last trip and advised we would not be using them any more because of Patrick, I received no response whatsoever. This lack of reply to a customer of not a few years told me that they have no interest at all in customer service. I would strong recommend Citroen Europass over GlobalCars - superior in every way.
Relinquished Responsibility – We hired a car through Global Cars. The actual rental company was Avis/Budget out of Fiumicino Airport. Their attendant at the desk did not tell us that our nominating a potential additional driver would draw a extra fee. Although we had booked for an automatic and compact car they wanted us to take a manual small car, but we declined. The first… Read more
car they sent us to was double booked, the second was missing a boot cover and the final car, that we eventually accepted, as we had wasted so much time, was damaged and glove box door was not able to be closed. On return of the car, although we had filled with fuel some 25km from the airport, we found that they charged for fuel on our credit card.
We of course complained to Global cars and asked for a refund. Their answer was that they sympathised with what had happened but suggested that we take up our issues with Avis/Budget direct. Our booking was with Global Cars and it should have been their responsibility to deal with the actual Rental company. In the end we have to ask what is the value in booking through such a company if all they do is take the commission and don't accept accountability.
Will not use them again!
Terrible experience – Do not trust this company. From the beginning transaction when collecting the car at Tegel Airport the staff were unhelpful. They did not honour the contract with Rental Cars and overcharged on the credit card which is now a nightmare to fix. By far the most difficult car rental company to deal with (and we have hired a lot of cars over the past two years). I personally would never use them again.
Great service & Deal – My friends and I just got back from six weeks in Europe where we leased a Citreon through Globalcars.com.au. Everything went perfectly from pick up to drop off. We even had a side swipe (not our fault) and it was all covered by all inclusive insurance. If you are going to be in Europe for a long time I highly recommend leasing over renting! Brand… Read more
new car + no issues.
Global car was fantastic especially JasonG who helped us every step of the way.
Best Way To Tour Europe By Car From 21 Days To 6 Months - In A New Tax Free Car – So much better than a hire car. Global Cars give you a choice of a new Citroen, Renault or Peugeot. A leased tax free new French car is exclusively for tourists who live outside the EU. The rates are better than hire cars. You get exactly the car you ordered and it is new. A hire car you are just reserving a category and get what is available. The… Read more
car does not require servicing in the first 20,000 km. You can pick up or drop off all over Europe for a fee. Free in France or if you pre-book in the September promo for the following year many of the pick up or drop fees are waived.
The greatest benefit is the 24 hour roadside assist with English speaking efficient operators, plus zero excess comprehensive insurance. Hire car excesses and allegations of damage debited to your credit card do not exist with the Global Cars leasing. Effectively you are buying the tax free car and selling it back to Citroen. You just pay the difference. Our C4 Cactus for 58 days worked out at less than $50 a day with no extras.
The only word of caution is that a foreign registered car with red plates or a hire car with maps is easily recognized as a tourist. There are places that you must not leave the car unattended full of your luggage in the boot. These include Barcelona, Madrid, parts of the south of Spain and Naples. We had a window broken in Barcelona when we were visiting the Labyrinth Horta on the way into town. Lost all our luggage as they flipped the back seat forward and did not need to open the hatch. Citroen Assist were super efficient organizing a temporary plastic window so we could leave Barcelona and continue our trip to France where a new window was replaced with a hire car provided at no cost while the window arrived and was replaced. The other thing with foreign registered cars in Barcelona or on the southern autoroute in Spain is motor bikes that pierce your back tyre in traffic. The scam is when you unload your luggage to change the tyre, thieves raid you and disappear through the traffic on motorbikes..
There is a saying in Barcelona, BMW stands for Break My Window.
Also be super careful of pick pockets in Barcelona, Madrid, Paris, Rome & Naples. The day after our window was smashed in Barcelona the Eiffel Tower in Paris was closed due to pick pockets.
