Google Pixel (2016)

It is disappointing – The only decent thing is camera and even that is not that fabulous comparing to other smart phones in the same league. Battery lasts barely a day. GPS is not as good. So many small glitches and major design flaws. I did really expect more. Much more:-( Show details
Very disappointing - google pixel doesn't deserve the premium tag – - The phone app crashes all the time. I can't use my pixel I'll need to buy a new phone. - You can't uninstall the phone app as well. There's no way to remove it. - Google support can't fix it as well several chats and 10-15 crash logs sent with no fix. - They offered me a new phone and then stopped replying to my emails when I said wanting me to share credit card information sounds like a scam. Worst customer support ever & Phone doesn't deserve premium tag either – I purchased Pixel 3XL from Harvey Norman. Choose this over iPhone and I regret that decision soon after 6 months of use. After 6 months phone started having issues such as heating up while charging and draining the battery quickly. I didn’t report to goggle as I considered its normal for Pixel and hard to justify as a fault to google support.… Read more
after a month of this issue, one-day phone shutting it down itself every 5 min.
Contacted google support asked me to send a faulty unit and once it received by google they normally ship replacement unit. After 2 weeks of the whole process, I got a replacement unit as NOT SO PINK instead of my original Black. I called them/Google on why they sent different color units and an excuse was it is not in stock and offered me 20$ google play store credit. which I rejected.
I have gone through the same process for requesting Black instead of NO SO PINK. after 2 weeks of the process, I got a Black unit and it was faulty. The phone speaker had micro noise keeps buzzing when I place the phone next to ear and it's irritating when I had long duration calls.
So again 2 weeks of the process I sent back unit back, now I got a replacement unit which is NOT so PINK again. Seriously... now they offering me 20$ google play credit. I am out of my main phone and surviving on my old iPhone 4 for the last 2 months.
Worst customer support.

Still great after owning Pixel 3 – I have recently upgraded to Pixel 3 from Pixel and to be quite honest, I still like the Pixel. It is really a great phone. Camera: Yes, Pixel 3 has a great camera, but Pixel's camera was already top notch and for non-professional and just the simple friends & family & food. Pixel is more than adequate (if one is very picky should consider an… Read more
actual camera).
Operating speed: (disclaimer: I am not a gamer) for normal function of daily life, which include a number of email accounts, calendar, news apps, YouTube, music, social media apps (I use about 10 of them), banks, airlines FFP apps and of course cloud storage (I use 5). There is really no huge difference in speed, well, not that noticeable for what I use the phone for, anyway.
Display: Pixel 3 does have a much better screen and when indoor, unless put them side-by-side to see the difference (and yes Pixel 3 display is superior). Otherwise, the Pixel is perfectly fine. Outdoor (under the sun), however, this is when Pixel 3 stands out. But one would argue Pixel is adequate since if you are outdoor, one shouldn't really be needing your phone that much, go enjoy the sun!
Speaker: Pixel speaker is nice, Pixel 3 is louder and a bit more balanced (since the two speakers are both front-facing, not so the Pixel 3 XL). From this perspective, I do like the Pixel 3 speakers over Pixel. But if one is very picky about the sound quality maybe get a nice earphone like a Grado and a proper audio unit :P
The look, yes there is the improved look with a thinner bezel and etc. But the Google design language hasn't changed that much. Pixel still looks pretty.
Verdict: unless waterproofing feature is a must-have for you. I really would say Pixel is still a very solid phone.
Pixel 3 xl! – I moved over to the pixel 3 xl from having a Samsung galaxy s8 plus for two years. The camera's excellent. Better than anything I'd ever seen. Seriously, you have to see the photos you physically take. I'm not going to say anything else on this. Battery so far is great. The rapid charging is quicker than on my galaxy. The galaxy used to always… Read more
shock me with how quick it is. You can imagine how I feel about the pixel!
The screen is good too. Samsung have their own distinctive 'pop' on colours which I immediately missed when I started using the pixel. The resolution here (pixel 3 XL) is amazing. It's so clear and crisp. But... Slight but noticeable warm tone and the brightness isn't anywhere near as good as Samsung. My galaxy was great in direct sunlight. The pixel really fails here. I was so shocked at how hard it is to see the screen in the sun.
The notch up the top is disturbing and ugly. There, I said it.
The speakers here use some different technology and I'm going to have to search that up because I'm really curious. They're awesome. Such a whole rich sound that reminds me of the clarity on my Bose soundlink mini.
I know I know, 'bose?!'. Yes. They're really good speakers!
I haven't attempted any gaming on the pixel yet. I don't really want to. I've got my Samsung for that.
I'm torn. Can I have a half Samsung half pixel phone?
$60 case is on, let's see how I go.
Love this phone – I wanna say, I have been very satisfied with the camera quality of my pixel 2xl. I am absolutely in love with the extra storage for photos also. I've had to turn flash either on or off at night or if it's been dark, but otherwise, I've never had an issue with camera quality. As far as durability and brightness of display, I think in the past six… Read more
months I've had this phone, I've only adjusted the brightness once. Which means, I've been pretty satisfied with both the brightness and durability of it.
What I use my phone for-everything!!! I dropped the phone a week after I had it, I misguaged where I was with my phone, my fault, but, even with only a partially working screen, I still use my phone for everything. And yes, even before my screen was busted, apps ran pretty smoothly on my phone. Can I always access exactly what I want, when I want or need, not without using the website or another device, but I still use my phone for everything. In fact, when hubby and I upgrade, I'm seriously considering getting the pixel 3xl. Unless I can product review it before then.
Positive reviews
Works brilliantly – The camera quality was the main reason I bought this phone and i am not disappointed. The camera is almost like a professional one in a nicer package. Apps run smoothly, easy to interchange from one app to another. The battery life however, is not amazing for the price you pay. Show details
Great phone. One of the best – Great phone. Excellent camera. Nice display. I use my phone regularly. Comes with a great launcher. I think it looks good but I don't understand why would they put glass on the back? After a drop, the glass on the back cracked and slowly crumbled away until I had to put tape over it. The headphone port somehow became damaged and I could no longer… Read more
hear one of the speakers when I plugged headphones in. Despite these issues, for a year and a half, it was an excellent phone but just lacked durability.
Great simple phone – I am very happy with this phone. Does exactly as it should with minimal lag. Great camera, no bloatware, premium feel, headphone jack. I would recommend this phone to anyone who appreciates a good, clean piece of technology. Google's implementation of software is very classy and well thought out. Thanks Show details
Negative reviews
Disappointed – - camera takes great photos - headphones don't work with the jack provided - my GPS has stopped working after 9 months - couldn't transfer my SMS messages from my iPhone - Gmail sent items only showing my name (not recipient) - incredibly poor customer service that haven't been able to offer successful solutions to any of these issues - finger… Read more
print recognition fails to work anymore - limited choices for cases. I chose a Speck case so that I could stick a card holder on the back, which means I can't use some of the phone's features like squeezing the sides for Google assistant - battery life is fine, not amazing Google if you're reading this, can you please provide any support for any of these issues
Never purchase – Whilst the camera is good I would never recommend to buy a Google phone! Their service is horrendous and if your phone has any glitch you have to make a million phone calls and follow ups and then once done they will only provide a refabbed old phone as a replacement once you have sent them your current one. On my phone, the phone was only a… Read more
couple months old once the screen kept freezing and the earphone jack kept not playing audio through the headphones. Headphones were changed multiple times with temporary fixes and return of the issue. All under 6 months old!
Whenever I had an apple phone it was a pleasure to walk into a shop and they would swap your phone without any hassle. Data would be transferred and cleared all with you present and issues were addressed.
Long story short, if you are considering a Google phone - don't! Dotn waste your money or energy
Very cheap low quality product at premium prices – in less than 2 years, i had to replace the charging port for $150 because it stopped charging and now the microphone stopped working and they told me it cannot be repaired. Rubbish quality - stay away from Google products Show details

Used to work well – Used to be a great phone. I've had it for 12-18 months now and the mic, speaker, vibrator suddenly stopped working and when I receive a call it crashes the phone. I removed the SIM card and used it for taking photos but now, three weeks later it was sitting on my bedside table and it started to boot loop and hasn't stopped. I can hold the power… Read more
button to turn it off but it will turn back on and off by itself. I contacted Google and they knew about the issue but they did not want to have anything to do with it because apparently it was purchased in India. Support Australia transfers me to India then India transfers me back to Australia.
The phone worked almost flawlessly until these issues appeared. I was going to replace it with a newer Pixel when I'd had it for two years but now I'm not so sure.

worse phone i have ever owned – poor reception, lousy predictive text and voice to text is even worse. i depend on my phone for my business and will be going back to huwaei mate 9 i previously used. So disappointed. This phone might be all right for average use but when your business ( and income) depend on the most basic functions to be fast and reliable its a true let down. I… Read more
send my website address daily and it won't save. The predictive text is unreliable on the whole, its like it wants you to use voice to text to speed things up but the voice gets it wrong pretty much every message so your always going back to re-edit. If you make more than 50 calls a day and send more than 20 messages a day throughout your work day and have to move fast do not buy this phone, everyday i curse it....There is now way i would have bought this phone if i could have tested for a day
Good at first... But a regrettable purchase – It's best feature is the camera, it's fantastic but only good feature. The operating system and phone wide screen leave much to be desired. I loved it at first, but it is too easy to slip your finger when holding it and opening every notificstion and app. It's become a frustrating design that makes me regret purchasing this device. The OS feels less intuitive then Apple (which was also poor). It's been a frustrating time to return to Android after the years with Apple.
They didn't make this phone with their customers experience in mind – Im 24 hours into the phone. I won't make any comments on how bad it is to find your way around the phone and use the home key buttons as this takes getting use to. I do remember though the first time i got an iphone thinking this is so easy. The home button/finger button at the back is a joke. As soon as i took it out the box and I couldn't… Read more
plug it into a computer or charge it because they use their own cable i thought throw it in the bin. They are just another company with their own cables, which has no purpose but to put more money in their pockets. They took on Apples worst feature which is needing their own adapter for the universal music cord.
Im sure i will learn to like some more features as I go but i am going to 1 star this product as its obvious from the get go the intent was to make money and not to change the way the world uses their phone or make the experience better for their customers.
Inferior product and customer service – I purchased GOOGLE Pixel XL in 2016 directly from GOOGLE store. On 11/7/2018 the phone screen froze and went dark. I went to GOOGLE authorized repair center,UBREAKIFIX. The repair center said they will perform diagnostics and that sometimes when GOOGLE phones are opened up for repair, the screen cracks. Two hour later the repair center… Read more
informed me that they cracked the screen, but they are not responsible, and that the phone has mother board issues and that they do not perform such repair.
In the past I purchased many IPhones and Samsung smartphones for me and my family and never, ever had any problems with mother board, and also found other manufacturer's customer service considerably more responsive and sensitive to customer needs.
My advise to all consumers, stay away from GOOGLE products.
Bad choice - after 12 months the battery started failing – Got a new Google. After a year the battery started failing. There is a small crack in the screen so evidently I don't get product support. I have to live with a power bank for two years until the contract is up. I think next time I will try another phone. What a pity as I liked the idea of a Google phone. Show details
Bad choice - should have stuck to samsung – Not impressed have been using the phone for around 8 months but I think I should have stuck to Samsung. I already have multiple manufacturer defaults like my phone never rings or even vibrate, after just 3 months the phone started to hang and became slower. Biggest issue I found Vs other smart phones is it's battery life, I was lead to believe that battery life for Google is a lot more but turned out to be completely opposite. Show details
Love my phone – I love the Google pixel. The camera is the best I've seen on a phone and I love how Google assistant automatically groups photos together in a collage. Only downside is the battery life, you need to charge it every night but it does charge rapidly. I love the finger scanner feature as it allows U access immediately Show details
Great product but can be buggy at times – The camera quality is great, the size of the phone is perfect and the screen resolution is fantastic. The only issue I sometimes experience which reduces the phones rating is that the my applications sometimes freeze and the battery could be better but that is probably true for most mobile phones these days. Show details
Good reliable phone with lots of features – I've had my Pixel for about 10 months now. It's a good phone with a great battery life. Google assistant is handy, although I don't use it much. It's decent looking and has a pretty good camera. It can be a little slow sometimes but that may be because my storage is almost full. Would definitely recommend it overall. Show details

of pixel customers and they have all been taken for a ride for what seems like an issue with the manufacturing quality. Google won't accept its mistakes and has failed to do right by its customers. Avoid Google pixel at all cost. You'd do well to stay away from Google's smart phones as they have grown arrogant with their growth.
Died exactly 12 months after purchase – The mainboard malfunctioned days out of being under warranty. The phones microphone, and headphone jack stopped working. All Google could do is recommend I send the phone to their repairers which I did - the evaluation came back as mainboard malfunction and a quote of $500 to fix. The exact same phone is currently $600 at JB. Show details

Telstra for help because they work there and get paid to sell crap phones. So to sum up this review, if you hate your current phone and want a new one, do not pick the Google pixel 2 because you'll hate it too. On a plus note the phone dose bounce.

replacement. The phone arrives with no charger (rendering it useless) and it's a lovely refurbished phone which I could have purchased at a fraction of the $600 I actually paid.
After an another hour on the phone apparently my only option is to keep this phone which might as well be an empty box for all the good it is without a charger and wait 2-3 business days for possible approval for a refund. If I am lucky enough to be one of the chosen few to be approved for a refund, I will have to wait for a courier to become available to pick up my useless box of phone. Then I can apply to take time off work so I can be home for said courier. Let's hope this time I won't have to spend hours on the phone trying to get Google to acknowledge receipt of the phone like I did last time and we can skip straight to waiting the 14 business days Google has advised me I'll have to wait for an actual refund.
Do yourself a favor and buy a different brand. Totally not worth the hefty price tag.
Trouble with phone but Google's customer service is excellent – Below has happened in the past, I am writing it in the beginning to high light the experience I had after actually speaking to Google itself. 28/06/2018 and contacted Google directly by filling out a form and within 30 seconds I got a call from Google California. They listened to my concern and put me through to troubleshoot specialist who asked me to perform few simple steps and my phone turned on instantly this is the same phone which "TELSTRA" was saying is liquid damaged and will have replace the phone itself. Google also said that if I have issues with my phone from now on they would replace my device if I get back to them before the warranty runs out which is not until Feb 2019. So guys just type support.google.com and either fill out a form or request a call back it is really worth talking to them. Excellent customer service. Just don't waste your time going to any company you bought the phone from in the first place
Purchased the pixel phone 15 months ago and just after 12 months the issues started.
1. Phone volume is pushed right down just after connecting the ear phones to device, no matter how many times I try to push it up no luck so basically I can't hear anything.
1.1 The screen has all the pop ups like Google now and volume controls continuously so I can't see anything.
2. Phone started to freeze often.
Contacted CTDI out of warranty repairers and they said I need to pay $250 app. to get it fixed.
And finally it stopped completely and the service centre (Telstra device care) says its liquid damage and I have to pay $699 for a refurbished phone replacement which was once someone's phone and these guys fixed it and now selling it again. So really they sell a phone twice once for full price and again for more than half price at customers cost. How customer centric these companies are wow unbelievable.
Overall, I was very excited with the purchase but now I regret as I used Iphones' for a long time and never had a problem.
Disappointed to the max.
