Gourmet Dinner Service

The use of the word "gourmet" is a bit of a misnomer. I would say that "industrial" is more correct The food can have some good flavours and they do veggies well enough. However, meat is a problem, eg in the "best"meat and veggies options. The meat is made from squashed, textureless slabs sliced thinly by a machine. This completely destroys and… Read more
any semblance of gourmet slicing or carving and leads to dry sheets of protein that are unpleasant to eat. They try to compensate by dousing it in "gravy". eg Lamb, turkey. beef. I found their interpretation of dishes relying on the real food to be very underwhelming.
Always great tasting and reliable! – I couldn't be more positive about my experience with GDS. They always have tasty meals and their service is awesome. I have been using them for a couple of years and like to have a couple of their meals in the freezer as a back up. The family meals have been a lifesaver when I'm really busy. I've also just started ordering for my elderly parents… Read more
on a home care package and the staff at GDS bent over backwards to help me navigate this tricky government system and get us set up - now I know that my parents are eating good wholesome food to help boost their energy. Well done GDS - 5 stars from me!
Outstanding – Wow, I needed to feed some guests and had no time to organise a dinner party, not only did Gourmet Dinner Service make this easy the assortment of meals and the flavours were unbelievable. I couldn't have done better myself. Show details
Love Gourmet Dinner Service – Love the food. Every meal I have ordered has been tasty with simple and easy cooking instructions. Tonight was salmon with a parmesan and walnut crust, just delicious. One of my favs is South Indian coconut chicken curry.
15 minute Christmas dinner – We used this service for Christmas dinner – ham, turkey, roast potatoes, roast mixed vegetables and gravy with 3 side condiments. It was absolutely delicious! The frozen packs were defrosted overnight and then vegetables in the oven for 15 minutes, meat microwaved, gravy heated on stove. The total cost was $132 including delivery and extra cooling… Read more
which gave us six generous portions. Yum! Shall definitely be trying more of their impressive looking menu.
Good value – I found there meals to be better than a lot of take away, less expensive than Menulog etc I have no problem giving them a 5 star. I will alter my review if there standards fall. Show details
No Stress Christmas! – I have never used the regular meal service, so I am only commenting on their Xmas menu. Better than I had hoped. Food was all pretty much average cafe/restaurant standard. Desert tasters far better than anticipated. Good duck - but needed a bit more orange in the compote. Easy to prepare. Far better than any prepared food you are likely to pick up in a supermarket. Will do again next year. Show details
Misleading – Gourmet dinner service is dietlicious. Really disappointed Because I have tried Dietlicious before and I didn’t like them I didn’t realise they were the same company and nowhere on their website is this disclosed. They are all frozen meals, not fresh. It’s very cheap like $12 a meal but low quality.
Expensive, bland and nothing like they promise – Ordered five meals. Did not have more than one bite of any of them before I threw them in the bin. Butter chicken was a lump of tough chicken swimming in a very ordinary watery butter sauce, chicken parmigiana that was just a lump of chicken breast in THE worst sauce, and the last one I tried was just inedible. Their reviews on their own website are all positive, I wish I had of looked a little further. Don't waste your money. Show details
Christmas menu – Ordered a ham, roast potatoes, platter and Christmas pudding from the special menu. The ham and pudding were excellent - a viable substitute to doing our own. The platter and potatoes were mediocre and we won’t order these again. Made Christmas very easy, and a fair price for the ham - we’ll do this again next time we have Christmas at home. Show details
On time delivery of chewy meat and soft vegies – Delivered exactly when scheduled which was great. They had a 2 for 1 deal when i ordered so i had a mountain of food. But unfortunately although the food was edible (mostly), it wasnt great. Chewy meat, soft vegies and a lot of salt! Wont be ordering again im afraid. Show details
Supermarket frozen meals are better – I read So many positive google reviews and thought I’d try. The sizes were very small and they were bland. The heating instructions were complicated and varied from meal to meal. I have used lite n easy in the past and much prefer those meals or even frozen supermarket meals over these and they were expensive. Show details
Bland & disappointing – If canned spaghetti is your usual fair and or cooking not a strength then possibly this might appear gourmet. My review though is not positive, the food so far is below the standard you’d get in “any” food court, tasteless, bland - great for dieters as I haven’t finished a plate. We got this as a gift as we are going through a rough patch. The… Read more
thought beautiful but this company has a long way to go to provide the memorable food experience for those who gift these meals expect.

Plenty of better value and tasting options than this – I ordered for my mother while she was unwell. More expensive meal prices, $25 delivery charge. Below average food and she could not eat the risotto it was so bad. Show details
Disingenuous - delivered foods were significantly underweight – I ordered 12 meals and a dessert from this service for my husband and son. When I received the delivery, I was startled to feel how light the box was, given I'd previously been receiving meals from another provider which had felt significantly heavier for a similar volume of meals. Upon inspection, I was appalled to find several small containers… Read more
that were supposed to represent meals for one or, in some cases, up to two people. I knew, immediately, that this was not good value. To make matters worse, when I weighed the contents of a number of meals and compared them to the weights recorded online, every single one (without exception) was significantly underweight, even with the packaging included. Unacceptable and, frankly, illegal.
Not surprisingly, I've decided to return to using the other food delivery service which has never given me reason to question their content. In fact, the only reason I moved away from that service was because Gourmet Dinner Service has a sister company, Dietlicious, and I was keen to try their Fast 800 program. I figured it made sense to keep the meals all coming from related businesses. My mistake.
To be fair to the Dietlicious arm of the company, their products are quite satisfactory in terms of taste and variety and, being a diet product, I'm less concerned with their volume; however, I won't continue to order from them because I am so appalled by the sister company's disingenuous behaviour. They have charged good money but not delivered a good product. (I should note that I also left this feedback on their Facebook page.)
Below is a picture of their Shepherd's Pie with Double Potato Mash. It cost $9.99 (plus delivery) and was supposed to weigh 400g. It weighed 365g in the container. Not. Good. Enough.
Very convenient – We are recent customers & find the service & quality very good. Plenty of choice & wonderful to have a break from shopping & cooking.
Excellent.. Could Not be more satisfied ✔️✔️✔️ – My wife & I are regular customers over a long time, as are many friends with whom we’ve shared the good news of Gourmet Dinner Service. The range is exceptional the quality & taste outstanding. Last night we ate Guinness Beef Pie, a favorite of ours, other ‘Greatest Hits’ for us are asian chicken, lamb and fetta Salads, butter chicken curry..… Read more
and the salted caramel tarts as a treat..
Highly recommend.. If you’re ‘time poor’ and appreciate good food & convenience do yourselves a favor.
Great Food! – Great food! It's Just like eating at a restaurant at home, Family meals make dinner time easy, fun and tastey!!!!
Don’t do it – I bought meals in bulk and the food is below average but what’s worse is they sent an expired meal and didn’t respond to messages.
not worth the Gourmet price tag – Given this business calls itself "gourmet" and charges higher prices than other food delivery services, I expected some amazing flavours but found that while most (not all) of the food tasted good, it wasn't great. I use pre-cooked meal delivery services for convenience but found these meals to be inconvenient as: - the instructions often… Read more
require defrosting in the fridge overnight (so I have to remember to do this and decide the day before what I want to eat, rather than grab what I feel like at the time)
- a number of meals are just a meat base, so I still need to waste 20-30mins preparing and cooking side dishes e.g. vegetables or rice.
- having only a meat base also means that I still need to waste time meal planning and at the supermarket doing grocery shopping
They do sell separately servings of individual vegetables, but this just adds even more to the cost of the meal. Even without ordering any vegetables, I found that for the money I spent on Gourmet Dinner Service dinners for one week, I could have purchased both lunches and dinners from a number of other services.
Beware the serving sizes that say serves 1-2 or 2. The prices may seem cheap if you think that you can feed a couple with one meal, but I found the serving size to be barely enough for one person or perhaps one with a bit left-over, but not enough for a second meal.
Not only are the meals themselves expensive, but this is one of the few food delivery services where you can't avoid delivery fees using a minimum spend. The delivery fee is also the most expensive I've come across at $15 (despite that I live in the Sydney metro area).
The week that I tried the service, there was a free meal offer that required entering a promotion code that didn't work. This was incredibly frustrating and unnecessary - if they want to provide a free meal, they should just automatically include it with your order and not create fuss with a promo code.
