I recently built with Great Dane Homes and am very pleased with the overall quality of the build. We chose a fully upgraded house package from Great Dane Homes, and it definitely lived up to expectations. The standard of finishes was excellent, with materials and fixtures sourced from well-known, reputable suppliers such as Beaumont Tiles, Carpet Call, Reece, Caesarstone, and quality European appliances. It was reassuring to see that mainstream brands were used throughout, and the workmanship reflected a real attention to detail.
The builder, Renton, was proactive and communicative throughout the entire process, which made a significant difference.
One of the most valuable pieces of advice Renton gave us was to upgrade the ceiling height from 2.4m to 2.7m and opt for square-set ceilings. We weren’t aware this was an option, and the extra cost was minimal. Had he not suggested it, we may have missed the opportunity — and it’s now one of the features we appreciate most in our home.
We had also initially chosen large bifold doors, which were proving to be very expensive. Renton suggested switching to sliding doors as a more cost-effective alternative. While I do feel the quality of the sliding doors could be improved, it's nothing significant that can’t be worked with, and the change ultimately helped us stay within budget.
Renton also built a quality deck as part of the outdoor area, and the landscaping was done well — clean, practical, and easy to maintain, which really added to the overall finish of the property.
I certainly think the point of difference with Renton and Great Dane Homes compared to other builders is the overall quality of the build, the consistent communication, and the high standard of finishes. I also understand that GDH uses 450mm stud spacing as standard — another indicator of their commitment to structural integrity.
After handover, Renton was more than willing to send trades back in to fix minor issues within the 90-day period — and even joked, “You have me for life, don’t worry!” That kind of personal commitment speaks volumes about his desire to ensure client satisfaction well beyond completion.
In today’s climate, where many private builders unfortunately go under or abandon projects mid-way, I’m especially grateful to have chosen a builder who stayed the course and delivered. I’d gladly recommend Great Dane Homes to anyone looking for a dependable, quality-focused builder.
