I liked this washing machine, great quality and very fast
So far so good, can't complain atm so yes this is the review. Show details
As a clothes washer, it performed quite well for about three years. But a little over one year after the 24 month warranty expired, it started malfunctioning, where the control panel didn’t light up when you pressed the On button. The fault was intermittent at first and the machine could be persuaded to “awake up” if you fiddled with the On… Read more
button, the selector dial and unplugging and re-plugging it. But two weeks ago, it died completely and nothing lit up despite multiple attempts.
Phoning a few local repair guys it appears that this unit, which has 3 printed circuit boards, has one board which is prone to failure. It costs an eye-watering $315 to buy a new one from Fisher & Paykel, the agents for Haier. Plus the cost of labour. My local technician said he could instal a new board within his $165 call-out fee, for a total repair cost of $480. (The entire machine was $699. At the exorbitant rates they charge for parts, the three PCB’s alone would have cost $945, with no mention of the motor, pump, cabinet, tub, impeller, wiring, suspension etc. Building an entire machine from spare parts would probably cost $10,000. There ought to be a law against such price gouging.)
I then spent an hour on the phone to Fisher & Paykel and they finally agreed to provide the PCB free of charge provided I used one of their technicians to diagnose and instal it. That would cost $209 just to diagnose the fault, and then up to $140 to fix it. Total $349. I thanked them for their offer, but decided to get rid of the Haier and buy a Beko washer which had a 5-year warranty. It costs $899 and had the strong recommendation of my local appliance dealer who said they were very reliable products, and that their warranty service was excellent.
Shocking that Haier would charge so much for a component that probably costs them $5-10 to make, and especially one that’s prone to failure. In my 25 years as a machine manufacturer (Triton woodworking machines) we replaced for free any parts that should not have worn out or broken - irrespective of the expiration of the warranty.
The machine is also rusting. Rust has appeared underneath the drawer which slides out to accept detergent. The enamel was clearly missing in that area. Overall, a very disappointing experience.
This is perfect, can't live without it – This is unbelievable Machine ✅ . Very suitable for all type of clothes.
Aesthetically pleasing machine that does the job – Having used top loaders all my life I was pretty excited to use the Haier HWF95AN1 9.5kg Front Loader. I did expect the machine to be larger, as I have a top loader 7.5kg (without agitator) and side by side the Haier seems to look like it has a smaller drum. I don't feel I can fit as much washing in as my 7.5kg top loader but it could also be… Read more
that I am over-filling my top loader. With that being said, it's compact size is perfect for anyone looking to gain valuable space in their laundry!
Out of the box and into place this beautiful little machine is aesthetically pleasing to the eye and would seamlessly fit into any laundry décor. Modern black tint door and crisp white shell. My floor is a little sloped for drainage so the feet on the Haier required adjustment so it was stable and would spin silently. Very easy to set up on my own.
The on and off button is touch responsive and does require you hold your finger and pause before it will turn on. Little bit slow for me. I'd like an instant response instead of the need to hold for 3 seconds or so.
The different pre-set wash cycles seem to do the trick, and they don't take incredibly long but my clothes don't come out smelling any more magical than my top loader. This all stems down to the powders and softeners I guess. I do notice more perfumed smell on my clothes using a top loader compared to the Haier.
The soak wash for my whites was good. I was sceptical soaking in a front loader as I assumed I would need to pause the washer for the time I wanted to soak. It gave me several choices for the length of time to soak dependant on the amount of soiling.
The detergent draw required a read of the manual. Section 1 is for your usual powder or liquid detergents. Easy. The soak setting uses the 2nd draw where you can place your whiteners or bleach - I was worried the bleach would spill into the drum as I was closing it before the water filled up but as I only had pure whites if it did happen I haven't noticed yet. It does say to dilute any concentrates so I image this is bleach. Diluting it seems counterintuitive if it is being added to the water for further dilution. I'm a kind-of throw-it-in, set and forget kinda' gal. So a top loader for me is great as I can fill it up with the clothes and detergent and then the washer beeps for me to close the lid when full - that's when I chuck the whitener or bleach in. I did use a powder stain remover in the 2nd compartment for a few washes and discovered not all of it comes out which is a little annoying. The 3rd compartment is for the softener, if required.
PROS
It's an inverter! Meaning one connection to the cold tap is all you need and you can still have hot water washes! Just like a dishwasher. Gone are the days of running a hot and a cold hose to your washer with more things to go wrong. Brilliant!
Easy to select pre loaded washing cycles by the turn of a dial.
Small footprint for it's washing size capability is. Haier 9.5kg size front loader takes up less space than a 7.5kg top loader
Aesthetically pleasing to the eye - dark tinted door and crisp white shell.
Quiet! Nothing much more than a hum and certainly no erratic shaking on the 1200 rpm spin
It has Wi-Fi connectivity (if you are into that stuff)
CONS
It low to the ground and means you really have to bend to fill it up. Would be ideal on a plinth or designed with a higher door.
You can not see washing through the black door, or your cat or child if they've climbed in haha. This is a little frustrating (although looks nice) as there's been several times I have washed and forgotten there is wet washing sitting in there. The 'refresh' wash doesn't help getting rid of the musty smell so a total new wash is needed. Cue the forget the washing and rewashing again and again.
The wifi connectivity didn't really come in handy for me. It was cumbersome to set up and is just 'one more app' that I need on my phone for my life. What would be more convenient would be a delayed start setting. You load up the wash, enter the hours you want to delay and bam it's done. I could do this with the app, but chances are I'll remember somewhere and try to wash and I've left the door open or not added the washing liquid.
All in all, the Haier is a fine little washer that does the job. I'm yet to need to clean anything major on it but it will be interesting to see how easy this is and whether I experience any leaks being a front loader.
Very impressed! Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this machine – I received this machine to review as part of the Productreview Ambassador Program, and I'm honestly so glad I did. This is the first front loader machine I've ever owned/used and, at 40 years old, I'm (finally) 100% a convert! *If you're short on time, I've listed what I think are the key pros/cons at the end of this review* To start, setup was… Read more
super easy. I needed hubby to help lift the machine out of the box as it's quite heavy, but other than that, it was just a case of removing travel bolts, hooking up cold water to the inlet, fitting the drain hose into the sink and plugging in. The machine also comes with a set of noise reduction pads that can be fitted to the machine prior to connecting it. I didn't end up fitting these as I have an outside laundry room, but honestly, even without them, the machine is very quiet and the sound wouldn't be an issue for me if I were to have it in the house anyway. Aesthetically, this machine is amazing. It would look right at home in the pages of a fancy housing magazine or some Northern Beaches mansion. Alas it doesn't get the full effect in my shabby little laundry, but it looks so nice every time I walk in and see it, it makes me like the room a whole lot more. I was initially a little disappointed that I wouldn't be able to watch my washing spinning around as the door is a very dark tinted black glass, but the aesthetics that brings kind of make up for it. It wouldn't have quite the same effect with a clear door. In terms of functionality, this machine has 12 preloaded wash cycles to select from that pretty much cover any type of washing you would need to do. Just spin the dial until the required cycle lights up, add your powder to the detergent drawer and press the start button. The display will show how much time you have left on the current cycle. You can also tweak settings on any of the cycles if you wish - eg. change the temperature (up to 90 degrees), add a soak time (30/60/90/120 mins), increase/decrease spin speed. There is also an ECO function to save water and power, a Speed Up option if you wish to reduce the washing time for a smaller load, and a Sanitise feature which will set the temperature to 90 degrees (so just be careful using this on delicate items). You can save your tweaks onto any program as a favourite by holding the Soak & Sanitise buttons simultaneously for 3 secs, which saves you having to adjust settings every time you do a wash. If you wish to revert to the default cycle settings just press & hold Soak & Sanitise buttons again and you're good to go. I'm actually really impressed with the level of cycle customisation available on this machine. My old 10kg top loader didn't have anywhere near this level of options available and it used to bug me, so this is a major plus for me. When it comes to effectiveness, I don't have a bad thing to say about this machine. My clothes have all come out super clean and fresh. I have two small boys (4 and 6 years old) that sure know how to put a washing machine through it's paces, and I had no problems at all getting their food and dirt covered clothes totally clean in the standard cotton cycle. I actually had a pair of my youngest's pyjamas that he'd burst a fish oil capsule onto and I'd already washed them multiple times in my old machine, soaked in napisan, canesten etc. trying to get the rancid fish smell out. I was on the verge of throwing them in the bin but decided to wait and try them in the new machine. Put them in with the Sanitise option and they came out smelling fresh after just the one wash! I also use the Sanitise feature for towels that have been sitting in the bathtub for a couple of days and gone a bit musty smelling and they come out great, as well as my rat hammocks and dog bedding. *Just remember that it is a 90 degree wash when you use Sanitise so be careful not to use it on anything that may shrink or be damaged by the heat. This machine does seem to hold moisture inside more than my top loader did so I recommend keeping the door ajar when not in use to help it dry out and prevent mold/mildew growing. Also a regular wipe down of the rubber seal inside the door as it catches little bits and pieces from the wash under the rubber lip and they'll sit there at the bottom getting manky if you don't remove them (this is particularly if you have small children with a tendency to keep random items in their pockets!) The detergent drawer is super easy to remove and wash, just press down on the little green clip and it slides out so you can clean it out properly and just slide it back in. The pump filter is easy to access and clean also, step by step instructions are printed inside the little door that pops open as well as in the manual so you should have no issue there, just make sure you have a big bucket ready before popping off the hose plug! I found the app very easy to set up and use. Just go to the website listed in the manual, download the app relevant to your phone (iOS/Android), setup an account and then just follow the steps that the app will run you through to add your machine. You can set up a load to then remotely start later via the app, just be sure to set the machine on Remote Mode by holding ECO & Speed Up buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds (or until the little flashing phone icon lights up) before you leave. This isn't something I would personally use at this point in time, but I can see it being handy for people who work long/odd hours, or just those who don't like leaving their washing sitting in the machine all day and want it fresh when they get home to hang out straight away. Overall, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this machine. It's effective, easy to use, has a cycle to suit everything, is very customisable and looks great. I don't really have anything bad to say about it and was kind of scraping to find cons to put below!
SUMMARY:
Pros: Easy to set up Easy to use in general 12 preloaded wash cycles that cover anything you would need to wash Ability to customise your wash cycles and save favourite settings Very effective - gets things nice and clean! Sanitise option to get those nasty items clean App functionality (if it's something you're after) ECO Function Plays a cute little tune when you turn it on and when it's finished washing (yes it's silly but it makes me happy and my kids love it!)
Cons: It is very low to the ground - I get down on my knees to fill it so I don't have to bend down, I'm not sure if this is standard for front loaders though since this is my first. Holds moisture - I feel like the rubber seal would get slimy real quick if the door was kept shut, however this can be subverted by just leaving it ajar. Can't see your washing through the door properly (not a deal breaker at all, but I'm sure it would bug some people)

Great Machine! would recommend – I was lucky enough to receive the Haier front loader 9.5kg washing machine to review. I have used this machine religiously around twice a day for the last four weeks using same washing powder and prestain remover and hygiene wash as I always have used. The first thing I noticed was how compact this machine was, and how esthetically pleasing it… Read more
is. I thought I had been sent the wrong size machine as it didn’t look like it could fit in 9.5kg of washing. The drum looked small but looks were deceiving as you can fit a fair amount of clothing in the machine. My previous 10kg washer of a different brand was much bigger outside and inside and the drum is higher off the ground, the Haier was much closer to the ground which meant I had to bend down further to add the clothes, I would personally prefer it to be higher off the ground. The installation section is at the end of the information booklet which is strange usually they are at the front. We were trying to work out if the machine hooked up to hot water or cold water as only one hose. We assumed it was cold tap (nothing in manual to say if machine heated the cold water) .Detergent compartment was very easy to read, unlike previous washing machines I have owned and have had kids previously put the wrong powder in the wrong compartment.
The washing machine is very user friendly, you can put your powder in, start a load on auto setting, cotton and you are good to go straight away, easy to change cycles. The machine is very quiet, even when spinning. Hardly any vibration, we didn’t put on the sticky foam strips to reduce the noise as we didn’t need it. The machine has very bright large blue numbers and letters on the screen which is easy to read. When a cycle is done the machine lets out a tune which had the whole family stop what they were doing and wondering where the music was coming from. It was a nice feature.
The machine has twelve wash settings which is so refreshing to have. I absolutely love the sanitise setting, we have an Airbnb and this came in handy when I bring home all the sheets and towels to wash. I also have a teenage boy that has a scent of his own so the sanitise setting was fabulous for his bedding and it was great for husbands clothes which can have a strong smell of chemicals. Was really happy to have that option. The other setting I also liked the Express 15, very handy when needing to wash something fast that had just been soiled, just pretreat with stain remover and quickly wash for 15 minutes. Soak setting was great, I have included a picture of a jumper that I could not get faint marks out of the white section, after the medium soak setting the jumper came out mark free. So happy! The refresh setting was used a few times on my linen sheets that were very wrinkled as I did read in the book that this releases wrinkles which was great. Also loved the speed up setting that you can use to speed up any load of washing on any setting you are using. While I am on the topic of wash cycle time. I LOVE how the wash cycles are quick, my previous machine is a 10kg so only half a kilogram bigger yet takes twice as long to wash a load!
This machine is Wi-FI compatible. I had heaps of trouble with finding the right App, the manual is totally unhelpful. I downloaded the wrong app and could not find the machine on the app. Even the husband tried to connect it. I contacted Haier Facebook messenger page and they gave me a number to ring. When I spoke to customer service they asked me to look inside the door for the model number, it was then that I noticed a sticker with the wi-Fi password on it. I hadn't noticed this before and nothing in manual saying the password for the app is in the machine. I told him I was ok to set it up myself after that and it was pretty easy to do just that. Once set up, the app lets you start a load from anywhere in the house (pointless because you have to still put in the clothes and the powder) so I really didn't understand the advantages of having a Wi-Fi compatible machine. I guess if you had a huge house and could not hear the machine finish it would be handy when it let you know it had finished a load. I only used the App once. I did notice you can schedule a service on there which would be handy, I would say it reminds you of this after a certain amount of washes.
In summary the things I love about this machine are 1. So user friendly, with easy dials and buttons with clear display. 2. The way it cleans. 3. The quick time it takes to wash a load. 4. The amount of clothing it can wash in one go. 5. The good energy rating and water use. 6. The amount of different settings. 7. Very quiet machine. 8. Customer service was good.
Things not so good but not a deal breaker: 1. The APP is hard to work out- manual is useless for this but once set up works well. 2. The machine is quite low to the ground so have to bend down. 3. Some parts of the manual need to be clearer.
It will be interesting to see how the machine is going after a year or so, I will keep you posted.
