Average car at best, sure to be better value elsewhere – Drove rental hybrid over 2 weeks Christmas 2023, city and country driving. Turning circle is poor-could not turn in a cul-de-sac. Bonnet so chunky could not see over in a steep driveway. Suspension average, aircon very average. Dashboard settings very annoying but guess could change these. Centre screen confusing to use. Upside-doesn't use much petrol, cameras good and big boot space Show details

Very solid performer – Purchased new 2021 wangara haval. Bought this car after doing some research and talking to Haval mechanics. After owning it for nearly 3 years I have to say I 'm very impressed with the overall performance and comfort. I have had zero problems with the car and it's a very nice drive. I understand that some of the early ones were a bit… Read more

laggy off the mark but I understand a software update fixed that. My mostly urban fuel economy is in the low 7's. For the money features are excellent and 5 star safety rating and 7 year warranty provided me with peace of mind. Definitely recommend

Never again – Will never buy one again, no good with power, petrol or for accessories. Will look for something different next time. Is expensive to run. Was not the one I test drove and convinced to go for the upgrades. Not worth it.

Terrible, 0 and i mean 0 customer care. 2 years and not 1 single call from haval – Bought brand new 0 KMS on the clock and had issues since day 3. Update 1 year and bit on. The radio still overheats non-stop (3rd radio) Taking off in 1st a good 50/50 chance the car dies when you put your foot down on a 100KM road almost making you get T-boned takes anything from 4-6 seconds to regain any power and go anywhere (man in the… Read more

dealership a few weeks back was laughing at it when I told him about it not knowing I actually owned one and that it was just in the service center getting another overheating radio... Also stated to me how china tried to pass this off as a safety feature in case you "accidentally pop the clutch" not to mention all the other things he told us that were wrong with the H1 and why they sell the new version now only)

The Auto hold feature doesn't work 90% of the time if you're on a slope causing you to crash into your house in the morning because the system won't work and the auto hand break sucks.

Trying to reverse on a tiny little hill will see the car rev out to 4000RPM on the spot when clutched back in.

The cruise control will always launch you anything from 5-20 KMPH over the speed limit unless you are on 100% flat roads)

Would be nice to get a call back about the issues I'm having for the last year and a bit literally since day 1 of purchasing BRAND new. a reply from china takes 6 months and then another 3+ for parts and then its another 3 months before the god damn dealership calls me to let me know.... oh wait scratch that because in over 50 phone calls to them they have I think once returned a call when they said every time "ill go find out and call you back. its a joke. Stay away from this pile of trash company. will be taking the steps now to go through ACCC and fair trade ombudsman to get my money back. STAY AWAYYYYYYYYY

Update this is still ongoing 2 years down the track got more and more issues now from the starter button now being broken due to the trims they replaced. Multiple emails to haval and customer service and i still have not had 1 single call back. So over it and this useless lemon made under the rule of Winnie-the-Pooh

Value for money – Purchased the H2 for the wife because this was the only model offering Apple car play at that time early 2020. Took the demo for a test drive with 3 adults and found the 1.5ltr motor just adequate but as this car will be used by 1 person most of the time it would suit. The biggest disappointment is the turbo lag when cold, in fact it is downright… Read more

dangerous. The good news that there is a software update ‘think it’s called cold start update’ which I recommend as a warranty call. The other annoying feature is the tire pressure monitor system, our car was randomly showing different tyres at different pressures but when checked they were all the same. I had the first 5000 service and advised I was running too high a pressure, apparently 34 psi is recommended so we will see if that fixes the problem. Other than the high fuel running cost it’s a nice car with most of the bling you would want tho a auto opening tailgate would be a nice inclusion in the future. Be safe on the roads, remember it’s better to be 10 minutes late than not getting there at all.

Proved all the doubters wrong! – Owned my Haval just on 12 months now & love it to bits. Was purchased as a replacement work vehicle in spite of concerns from many including my mechanic (who admittedly was comparing to the first Great Walls). Figured I couldn't go wrong in that if there was a problem, I'd be covered by the excellent warranty. I travel approximately 1100km per… Read more

week (53000km on the clock in 12 months as of today) with lots of stop/starting & uturns on all road surfaces in all weather. I ensure all my cars are serviced religiously on time & my mechanic has been really impressed as we've had not one single problem or even concern (apart from a ding in the door from a kangaroo). The seats are the most comfortable out of all of my cars, head lights are terrific, no problems with performance - I'm not racing anywhere - is the slightest lag but like any car new to you, something that becomes the norm. No problems with the media system - I guess my only dislike is the "clicking" when the wipers are on intermittent. Always get comments on how good it looks). I required another replacement vehicle 6 months ago & ordered another Haval but mine got damaged on the dock so delay time increased to 2 months which wasn't an option for me. Gave one of my drivers the Haval whilst i drove my backup car - when i purchased a different replacement car for her, she didn't want to give up the Haval so i got the new car, she kept the Haval! I WOULD DEFINATELY GET ANOTHER HAVAL FOR EITHER PRIVATE OR WORK REQUIREMENTS - not a second thought.

Good value but missing basics and spare parts – Driving the H2 is good but disappointing it is missing some basics and relevant infi in the owners manual. one foot while while singing the national anthem just to reset the trip meter. Well, in fact I found by trying this it is so easy. Just display the trip meter reading and hold the ok button for a few seconds and it resets to 0km. Whats missing?? Digital speedometer-- rumour has it you can somehow make the trip meter change to speedo please if anyone knows how??? No android auto, would gave been ok but the Bluetooth integration is rubbish not even correctly displaying the contacts or last called log come on Haval update the software. I believe Apple users will be really annoyed no GPS. First service not free like other carmakers I went to a lic mechanic because first service was $275 too expensive. Not so big issues No auto lights No auto wipers

Good bits Feels solid Road noise good For 22k it gets me from a to b UPDATE NOV 2021 Buyer beware, took 13 weeks to get back on road, insurance will no doubt increase premium to recover rental cost. Still waiting since may for front badge. Where has mandated spares in Australia rules gone? Haval can't supply parts then they should replace or 110% costs spent as refund. Maybe then take note. This is now why haval has dropped. Take note all importers.. 2023 update. So service prices more than doubled.

Havel SUV - Buyer Beware – Purchased a Havel H2 LUX in January 2020. Vehicle is small SUV. The car itself is well equiped and comfortable. We added a tow bar with the intention of pulling a small 12ft caravan [under 1000kg]. This was not an issue UNTIL we checked on the tow ball weight endorsed by the manufacturer. To our amazement and total frustration, the maximum tow… Read more

ball weight is only 70KG. The small van tow ball weight came in at a reasonable 80KG which is basically the minimum for a caravan of this size. A vehicle of similar size and engine capacity [eg Toyota] has a tow ball weight of 150KG. We looked at even upgrading to a bigger Havel [H6] but were shocked that this larger vehicle had a tow ball weight maximum of 60 KG - unbelievable. The situation is worse when looking at the Havel H9 [Large SUV] with a tow ball weight of only 100kg. Lesson learnt -if you wish to pull a caravan or trailer , Do not buy a HAVEL

Simply a great car...not just great "for a Chinese car" – I purchased this car on 1 July 2019 and I've waited about 6 months before writing this review. This is so I can give the reader a detailed "long term" review reflecting 6 months of ownership. At the time of writing the car has travelled about 4,000 km. I have another car which I use for work and the Haval is entirely our private "family use" car.… Read more

It does the regular grown family stuff like shopping trips, miscellaneous errands, dump runs, family transport and so on. I can assure you this review is an honest and accurate review of my ownership experience over 6 months. I use the car almost daily.

I would buy another one of these cars in an instant if I needed to and I have no hesitation in recommending it to others. The biggest hurdle to overcome, I believe, is the negative attitudes and perceptions towards and around Chinese cars. This was justified with earlier Chinese efforts in our market but the current crop of Chinese products - and the Haval H2 - is excellent and worthy of very serious consideration. The Haval H2 is perfectly acceptable for the average Australian motorist. If you can overcome the inaccurate mindset that Chinese cars are seriously deficient, poor quality and unsafe you can save a small fortune and find yourself behind the wheel of a very nice car. In my opinion, Chinese made cars are the future in Australia and probably in the rest of the world as well. In this review I want to cover the things that are important to the average punter. I am no car expert and I hope to give you a clear idea about how this car can or can't fit into your family.

The build quality, fit, finish and engineering are at least as good as any product from South Korean, US, European or Japanese manufacturers that are intended for mainstream consumers. Those with a bias against Chinese cars should remember that most of the components in their preferred car brands are almost certainly made in China! For example the Haval H2 has a Chinese made licenced Bosch branded braking system which I’m quite sure would be in many cars.

Ok so enough of that and on to the car. Styling is subjective so if the H2 doesn't look like something you could live with it's probably pointless reading further. Obviously it looks fine to me because I bought it. You must make your own decision on this.

The H2 requires petrol of octane 95 or higher. This means you can't use ethanol or regular unleaded. This may seem a negative, which I guess it is, but it won't be too much longer before the minimum octane available in Australia will be 95 anyway. This is the situation in Europe right now. In any case the higher per litre price of fuel is fully offset by the significant reduction in purchase price over (say) a Hyundai equivalent vehicle. However, the fuel consumption is higher than the average for this category of vehicle. The trip computer in the car does not accurately reflect the true litres per 100km consumption of the H2. The trip computer in my H2 reports an average over six months of 7.9 litres per 100 km where the true reading, based on my own calculations and record keeping, is 10.96 litres per 100 km. This is an error of around 39%. Trip computer lt/100km readings are often inaccurate but this error rate is unacceptable. Please take this into consideration but don't forget the fuel consumption is quoted on all new vehicles in Australia as per government regulations. I’m just saying that the car’s trip computer fuel economy reporting varies significantly from the actual. This is probably quite common in the industry?

The Haval H2 has a 1.5lt turbocharged petrol engine. The power and torque figures are lower than comparable 1.5lt turbo engines. This engine provides perfectly satisfactory performance in the H2 for most buyers. The car is an unexpectedly accomplished and relaxed highway and motorway cruiser offering driver and passengers a comfortable and pleasant ride. However, the rear centre seating position is not comfortable, but this is often the case in many cars. While the power and torque figures from the engine are lower than competitors most owners will be perfectly satisfied with the performance from their H2. The engine becomes noisy above about 4,500 but you won’t have it above this speed too often. In summary the engine and performance are perfectly adequate for the average Australian driver.

Some have reported turbo-lag from this car. I have no idea what this is exactly, but my experience has been a reluctance of the transmission to shift down; presumably to reduce fuel consumption. It could be this shifting pattern that confuses people? It’s not really a problem but you should check this on your test drive.

The equipment level is very good but again this is subjective. You certainly get a lot of fruit for the money and this is what I like. My H2 has a sunroof but I’ve never opened it even once. Everyone is different so you will have to make up your own mind on equipment levels. The sound system is about average but it has no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. I don’t care about that, but you might. The Bluetooth works fine and is all I need.

The boot space is not the greatest and you should check this in your research. Haval don’t quote a boot volume. When manufacturers don’t quote this number it usually means they haven’t got a good story to tell. The boot is fine for us but check if it works for you.

Service intervals are 12 months / 10,000km whichever is first. This is competitive with other brand's turbo petrol engine SUVs. The service prices are competitive with Hyundai but please check this when considering purchasing as prices change. I recently had my very first service - 6 months / 5,000km. This was fine and there were no issues. The Chinese manufacturers in Australia are NOT transparent with their service pricing and this includes Haval. However the fault probably lies with the importer and selling dealers rather than the Chinese manufacturers. I researched the service prices extensively before purchase but it was very difficult and unpleasant getting information out of the dealer. They obviously have something, or a dodgy agenda, to hide. For your own peace of mind I suggest pressing the dealer for information on service pricing if it's important to you. You can get the car serviced at your local independent mechanic if you wish and just go to the dealer if you need warranty attention. I understand the independent mechanic can source parts for the car and they can service the brand without any problems.

The Haval H2 is a decent car and well worthy of consideration. I suggest taking one for a good test drive before making your final decision. There is no ground breaking technology in this car and it does everything very well and nothing poorly. It is a well tested and a big seller in its Chinese home market. Haval have been producing the model for quite some time. It's been a great car in the six months I've owned it. I genuinely like it and I have no doubt you will too.
